I wanted to reset my windows 10 (delete all the files and not the OS) and I left ithe to reset over night but I woke up and the reset was still on 2% so I decided to stop the reset and restart my pc but now when it boots up the computer it can't boot to windows and it just does a cycle of showing the boot options and for some reason I can't select the boot options from my keyboard.
View 1 RepliesAfter resetting my laptop (specs below) from within Windows 10, it cannot boot anymore. It just displays the hp logo and after that it's a black screen with my mouse pointer, indicating that something is loading (the spinning circle). But how long I wait doesn't matter, because it doesn't boot ever. I have tried booting in safe mode, and that worked. But I'm not able to figure out how to boot normally.

I used the Windows 10 rest pc feature and selected the options to delete everything off of my drives. There was a problem during the installation and I clicked the option to boot back into windows 10. The laptop just boots into the MSI splash screen over and over again.
View 1 RepliesRecently, I decided to do a factory reset, to cleanly wipe my drive, with the exception of Windows. When the reset was about 30% through, the reset failed. Now, when I try and use my laptop, it only gets to the ASUS logo, then goes to a black screen with a flashing underscore symbol on the top left corner. I've tried doing F9, SHIFT+F9, and everything else in between. My laptop is an ASUS G74SX, and I don't have a recovery partition for the laptop. I also cannot get any external programs for the laptop, such as ISOs, etc.
View 1 RepliesSo my computer has been kinda laggy and running slowly so I figured I would do a clean reset of Windows 10. It noted that it would take hours, which was fine. However about an hour into it, it said there was an error resetting. It then restarted the computer however I can't get passed the "ASUS" start up logo. It goes black and then loops. I hit F9 but none of the options work for me - automatic repair won't work because it says my computer doesn't have an administrator and when I try to reset again from there, it tells me that "a required drive partition is missing." I don't have the greatest knowledge on computers, so I really don't even know what that means.
I've read that I might have to reboot from a USB - how would I go upon doing that? Is there something I can download on the Microsoft website? I don't have a key because the computer came pre-loaded with Windows 8 and I upgraded to Windows 10 for free last year. Will I still be able to boot from a USB?
Ok so basically, after successfully installing windows 10 from windows 7, I decided to clean my hard drive and reset windows because I deleted my "edge" and thus my apps were not working. The problem then started, the reset went fine until it reached 64% and read "configuring settings" then it just restarted my PC and went in a loop like this;
>startup
>bios screen (Asus/Intel)
>monitor turns off
>monitor turns back on
>blue win10 logo and loading circle
>black screen for 5-10 secs
>install screen displaying 64%
>restarts and loops
The most recent update has bricked my PC and I am stuck on the boot up screen, I have tried pressing F8 on boot up but don't get the option to reset it, what to do?
View 2 RepliesSo yesterday I tried to factory reset my MSI gt70 dominator. After it got stuck at 2% and left it overnight to come back the day after to see it was still stuck at 2%, I decided to manually turn off the computer. Now I don't seem to be able to do anything exept go in UEFI. From there it seems I could try to reset again but it doesn't work, saying "unable to reset your pc. A required drive partition is missing".My laptop came with 8.1 already installed, so I don't have any windows cd.
View 1 RepliesI was working with my computer the other day and it rebooted spontaneously. When it did I got a "Preparing Windows" or "Configuring Windows" message after I logged in and when if finished I was back at the very first Windows set up. None of my start menu adjustments were there, none of my mouse, wallpaper, etc. settings were in place, and worst of all I lost all my settings for my Firefox and Thunderbird applications which meant all of my mail history, address book, etc. btw, I wasn't connected to the internet at the time, my connection was down.
I get a message saying it can't? find a profile so it is creating a temp one which will be deleted on shutdown.
I should point out that my files are still there, except for Appdata/Roaming and I do have a back up of my data so if I can stop this reset behavior I can recover data.
Now it reconfigures at every reboot. Even after reestablishing my internet connection.

Earlier this afternoon I decided to reset Windows 10 as I had a problem with BSOD BAD_POOL_CALLING over and over again. I booted in Safe Mode, went to Advanced Options and so on. It wasn't a factory-new reset, just the one that removes all files, app data, etc. I left it for a while and came back to find it hadn't worked; there was an error message that read 'There was a problem whilst restarting your PC'. I tried again and the error message appeared again. Because of this, I decided to exit and continue to Windows 10 and see if it had done anything.
Now, when I try to boot my PC up, the circle that usually rotates on the 'Zoostorm' screen when loading doesn't appear. The PC then reboots and tries again, again and again, but with no success. I have tried turning off and on, and even unplugging everything, however nothing seems to work. My PC is now stuck in a continuous reboot loop and won't load. Unfortunately, I can't press F8 or Shift + F8 when booting to start Safe Mode. I have never made a recovery drive for Windows 10 and I don't think my computer came with a repair disk.
How do I reset a PC with windows 10 installed to where it asks for a boot disk on a black screen or something like that? not where I reset it and windows is still installed, I need a reset it to where I can only go in the bios....

View 9 RepliesI recently upgraded to Windows 10 without a problem, but after a while I thought; why not do a clean install? I went ahead and tried to perform a clean install from the windows 10 settings, and chose all drives, and a quick reset.
It then started the process, after which it crashed with a BSOD telling me something went wrong and that it would restart. After that it kept restarting, sometimes with a BSOD, sometimes just freezing on the windows 10 logo. There were different BSOD errors each time it would crash, I can't remember all of them.
Some of them were along the lines of a driver stack overrun, some were telling me system32/winload didn't exist.
We tried a system restore from USB, but there was no difference. We tried going into the BIOS menu, sometimes it worked, sometimes it froze, and we made sure that the USB would be the first the PC would boot from. Still no difference.
At this point the PC just froze on the windows logo, still trying to initialize the system reset I think. I unplugged the drives and plugged them into my laptop to check what was wrong, and both drives were wiped, with nothing left, no hidden files.
Only with both drives unplugged, the PC would give me something different, an error saying that there is no operating system, which is obvious, so I don't think it's the PC, but windows that is generating this problem.
I tried booting from USB multiple times, with a system restore on it, a windows 10 installation on it, and a windows 8.1 installation on it, since that is what my PC started with.
I upgraded from windows 7 to windows 10. After experiencing some problems I thought the laptop might run faster if I simply reset it. I picked the option to remove all personal files since everything is backed up anyway. After resetting my PC boots up, goes to a blue screen where it says it can't start up with the error "INACCESSABLE_BOOT_DEVICE" then restarts and does this process again.
My laptop has pretty good specs so it should have been running faster than it was and I am now stuck as to what to do.
I have a problem, I installed windows 10 and now I'm stuck in a boot loop after attempting a reset to wipe my files in hopes to make things a little faster, and now I'm unable to do anything other than enter the BIOS.

windows 8.1 pro ( H:WINDOWS ) instead of ( E:WINDOWS )
Nevertheless the dual booting works fine as well as the shift between the disks via BIOS.
The question is , could I fix the situation using the EasyBCD of Neosmart Technologies to edit the bootloader ?
I see can change drive letter H: to E: and save the change , am I right or wrong ? or any other way ....
After installing a 32 bit windows 10 from a USB by mistake I decided to upgrade to the 64 bit version. I have 3 hard drives, one of which is an ssd that I am trying to install the OS to. After downloading and setting up the media creation tool and creating a USB I restarted and boot form USB.
I followed the steps and deleted the existing windows 10 partitions on my dad and tried installing straight to the unallocated space. After the installation completed it restarted the installer, which is not what happened when I previously successfully install windows 10. I then changed the boit order to have my ssd first and rebooted, which gave me the Reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media error.
Confused I loaded up the installed and there were correctly partitioned installs already on the ssd ( although one partition looked a little small). I tried reinstalling windows 10 with the same result over and over.
My laptop has dual boot - Windows 7 and Windows 10. My Win7 environment is my main working environment with lots of programs installed and important files. I installed the Win10 environment just to play around with 10 during the technical preview. Now, I would like to disable the 10 environment and upgrade the 7 to 10. Am I able to do this, or have I already "used up" my one upgrade on this computer's Windows license?
I notice that in Windows 7 I have not received the icon in the notification area that invites me to upgrade to 10. This makes me think I might have used up my chance to upgrade.
My end goal is to have a single Windows 10 environment. Note that the reason I want to upgrade my 7 environment to 10 is because I don't want to have to re-install all of my programs and files into the current 10 environment.
When I try to boot from a recovery flash drive, it fails with: EFIMicrosoftBootBCD error status: 0xc000000f and message: The Boot Configuration Data for your PC is missing or contains errors.
The recovery flash drive was created on a Lenovo ideapad originally with Windows 8, now upgraded to Windows 10, latest upgrades applied. Checked the box for copying system files. Target drive was a 16GB DataTraveler flash drive formatted as FAT32. Creation ran to completion with no errors. When booting normally, Windows 10 runs fine with no issues. I tried re-creating the recovery drive with the same results.
I created a repair disk and tried to use bootrec to fix the issue, but I suspect it did nothing or fixed the c: drive. I ran boot rec while in the root directory on the flash drive.
As I get ready to do a clean install of 10074 I am curious about the need to disable secure boot and fast boot options. If I do disable secure boot do I need to enable legacy boot?I have had limited success with previous installs to a 2nd hard drive and the problems that arose always seem related to dual booting.
In one instance I did a clean install of 10061 and had left secure boot enabled. In order to get dual boot working I had to disable secure boot, and upon rebooting I needed to change it back to secure. I then made Win 8.1 the default boot and then Win 10 would never boot from the menu, it would just take me back to the boot menu and I could boot into Win 8.1.
I'm making a image for installation of windows 10. I make a USB flash drive with WINPE. and once the device starts into WINPE, it will automatically start to install windows 10 by calling "dism /apply-image". Normally i just shutdown the computer after installation, but now i want to reboot the device and boot into the windows i just installed. But i can't, because if i reboot the device, it will boot into WINPE again and start another turn of installation of windows. How could i temporary boot into my windows 10?
View 4 RepliesAfter several weeks of testing I'm ready to go full on Windows 10 and want to get rid of Windows 7 but I have some partitioning issues I want to clean up. I currently have Windows 7 on drive 0 (360 GB) and Windows 10 on drive 1 (500 GB). Both are SATA drives and RAID is enabled in the bios but not active.
What I think I'd like to do is simply swap the drives physically so that Drive 0 has my current Windows 10 install on it and make it primary boot active etc. The drive with Windows 7 on it would become drive 1 and I would delete the Windows 7 partition and re-partition it with a clean empty partition just for extra space.
Second question, any advantage to using this drive configuration in a RAID setup?
I have a legacy 64 bit dual core desktop (ASUS mobo). I have several Sata hard drives in it with the 4th partition of my 1 Terabyte drive containing my Windows 10 Professional boot OS. After converting another similar legacy machine to a NAS device I took the old Windows 10 32 bit OS drive from it and tried booting the ASUS machine with it. Needless to say, the OS didn't like it and reverted to Windows 10 Pro Insider Preview edition (build 11082).
When I tried to restore the boot drive to the original one for this machine the master boot was missing.
I had just formatted another partition on the same drive that had contained a Windows7 installation that had failed. This partition may have contained the master boot record. So I booted to a command prompt from a USB drive and successfully ran the following commands:
bootrec /RebuildBcdbootrec /fixMbr bootrec /fixboot bootsect /nt60 SYSbootsect /nt60 all
After that the BIOS just says "An operating system wasn't found. Try disconnecting any drives that don't contain an operating system" This disk and OS are on the original machine it used to run on. As I understand it, Windows 10 tries to record it's key to somewhere in the BIOS. But the BIOS on these old machines don't provide such a facility. I don't understand what Windows 10 OS does with the key in this instance. If it was recorded in the BIOS then I'd presume that the other Windows 10 drive I attempted to use would have found it and used it. Or perhaps not, since it didn't like the new environment.
what I'm looking for is a way to get my original Windows 10 to boot again on the same machine it had always work on before, from the 4th partition of the 1 terabyte drive I'm using.
I used MicroTool partition manager to delete the extra partitions on an OS drive with win10 (leaving just the main C partition on the drive), and now the laptop will not recognize the SSD with the OS on it, and obviously cannot boot. I also tried using the bootable partition recovery tool from MicroTool, but restoring the partitions also does not work, it will only allow one of the two partitions to be restored.
View 9 RepliesBasically, I have a really bleepty BIOS that will only let me change the boot order with secure boot disabled and legacy boot enabled. I need secure boot because I just installed windows 10 onto a new drive and it won't activate. I have heard that this has something to do with secure boot being disabled. I still have the activated drive, which is the primary drive. Is there anything I can do to change the boot order?
