Reboot And Select Proper Boot Device Or Insert Boot Media After Installing From USB?

Nov 10, 2015

After installing a 32 bit windows 10 from a USB by mistake I decided to upgrade to the 64 bit version. I have 3 hard drives, one of which is an ssd that I am trying to install the OS to. After downloading and setting up the media creation tool and creating a USB I restarted and boot form USB.

I followed the steps and deleted the existing windows 10 partitions on my dad and tried installing straight to the unallocated space. After the installation completed it restarted the installer, which is not what happened when I previously successfully install windows 10. I then changed the boit order to have my ssd first and rebooted, which gave me the Reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media error.

Confused I loaded up the installed and there were correctly partitioned installs already on the ssd ( although one partition looked a little small). I tried reinstalling windows 10 with the same result over and over.

Reboot And Select Proper Boot Device

Dec 28, 2015

yesterday I opened Windows 7 iso file in my Windows 10 operating system, and pressed 'Install now', I immediatly cancel the operation, and a new partition showed up next to C: drive, I knew nothing about system partition yesterday and I though Windows 7 installation reserved it, so I erased the 2 folders that had inside (EFI and Boot). But the partition still existed, so I restarted the PC and now shows: "Reboot and select proper boot device" (Windows 10 no longer boots).

I tried to fix it with Windows 10 USB iso's troubleshoot and everything failed, so I tried using the Command prompt tool but couldn't do much with it.

BSOD :: Reboot And Select Proper Boot Device?

Mar 5, 2016

When turning on my computer today, I had to face a BSOD with the error name being "System Thread Exception not Handled", which prevented me from launching Windows 10 in either way. So I rebooted my computer on my Linux Mint partition in order to look on the internet the solution to this error. I then created a USB bootable with Windows 10, so I can access to the troubleshoot kits. However, when I launched my computer again on my USB key, I found myself in front of a black screen with words saying "Reboot and select proper boot device".

Things get quite weird from now, because when I try to boot from my SSD where Windows 10 is installed, I no more have the previous BSOD, but always and always this black screen with the same message. I do not know how to do now in order to access to Windows 10 again.

Unfortunately, being unable to access to Windows 10, I can't give you a DM Log Collector.

Downloaded Windows 10 and started installing it. The install got to around 20% and now I'm stuck on a black screen with "Reboot and Select proper Boot device or Insert Boot Media in selected Boot device and press a key". I have gone into BIOS and changed boot order around but it doesn't seem to make any difference.

BSOD :: Inaccessible Boot Device After Reboot From Update

Oct 16, 2015

I can not provide a crash log or a screen shot because I can not get past the Repair/Diagnose loop.

My Windows 10 pro has been running just fine until yesterday when I did an update. After the update and reboot, I get stuck in a loop stating the system cant start because of "Inaccessible boot device". It goes thru a process of restarting itself and self diagnostics and repair, but it keeps looping without fixing itself. I do get to select options such as boot up in safe mode but it wont, it goes back in that loop. I can boot into the Bios, I have an SSD that has always been set to ACHI mode, and it is. I just cant get out of this loop?

The only fortunate thing is that I have backup image files, so I do a quick secure erase of the SSD and reload the image fresh. All goes well until I do the Windows update, then reboot into this problem. I disabled Updates for the moment and spent a lot of hours on Google and YouTube, nothing I found so far has worked, so I figured I would try a fresh start here.

Secure Boot - No Option To Select Or Deselect

I just canceled my Windows 10 download request because of "Secure Boot." I find it's very disturbing to work under its conditions of inflexibility. Without an option to select or deselect, Secure Boot is an irrational restriction on the individual.

Installation :: Installing Win X86 Dual-boot On A PC With X64?

Jan 12, 2016

I have a PC with win 10 x64 installed. It is a new PC with UEFI firmware and secure boot enabled, though I can disabled it very easily.

I want to installed Win 7 x86 (32bit) on a second hard drive and have it dual-boot config with the current Win 10. I know I have to disable secure boot for installing 32 bit, but Im concerned about the process of installing Win 7 AFTER the already installed Win 10.

How can I go about doing this without losing access to my Win 10? I need to install win 7 for compatibility reasons.

Created A Boot Disc Using MCT For Installing On New SSD

Aug 5, 2015

I have an Acer PC which was running an OEM version of Windows 7 SP1. I upgraded to Win10 using the regular upgrade process, and then created a boot disc using the MCT for installing on my new SSD. All went well, I was activated so I wrote down the Product ID (which I thought was my Product Key) and installed my new SSD. Installed Windows again, but in the process accidentally formatted the original HDD, which I wasn't concerned about because I had backed up my personal files and was looking for a clean install regardless.

Now I have 10 installed and running fine on my SSD, but it won't activate. I don't have the original successful install on an HDD anymore, and my OEM Windows 7 copy isn't available to recover to anymore either. I guess if the only option is rolling back to 7 and starting this all from scratch, how do I go about that, assuming I only have a Windows 7 .iso from the internet?

Boot Up With USB Flash Media Drive

Apr 29, 2015

Installed Win 10 and get it working. My problem is I have Win 8.1 Pro on a Samsung EVO SSD T-1. I went out and bought a Samsung 225 gig SSD HDD to install Win 10. I downloaded the Win 7 ISO and it worked perfectly. When I first tried to install Win 10 on the boot up with the USB flash media drive I went into setup on Win 10 and when I selected the new hard drive for the installation it gave me a message that it could not install on that drive. The other partition on the drive said system info. I hit delete and it installed. I don't know if I should have re formatted.

I go to bios setup on my motherboard Asus Z-97 and select Samsung EVO and it goes directly into Win 8.1 Pro. If I reboot and select in the bios Windows media drive it boots into Win 10. My question is I thought (based on all the screen shots I see here in the forum) that when I boot up my computer it should take me to a blue screen with 2 selection boxes Win 8.1 pro or Win 10 and I should be able to select.

I would rather see the 2 boxes where I can select one of them. My last question is when I bring up my Win 10 the fonts on the menus and etc. are so small I cannot hardly read them. I am using a LG 21.9 3440 x 1440 ultra wide monitor and have my text at largest and my screen zoomed to 150.

Inaccessible Boot Device

Aug 18, 2015

Ok recently my pc has been crashing like crazy and I got tired of it so I decided to reset my pc (I have windows 10) but after I did so it would try to restart and it kept saying it ran into a problem (INACCESSIBLE BOOT DEVICE) and it would reset again and it would keep doing that in an endless loop.

So I figured all the crashing before was because of motherboard. Gigabyte ATX Socket AM3+ AMD 970 Chipset. So I recently bought a new motherboard.A MSI 970 Gaming mother board. But its still keeps showing the screen that keeps saying it ran into a problem (INACCESSIBLE BOOT DEVICE) in a endless loop. Does this mean I need a brand new clean hard drive that doesn’t have windows installed on it so it can act like a brand new computer or what?

Error - Inaccessible Boot Device

After being finished with the restore, I booted my pc and was greeted to a message that said: something went wrong blah blah, with "INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE" being the subtitle. I've tried rebooting my computer numerous times but no results. I've tried changing boot orders and shit in BIOS settings, to boot from USB but that didn't work either..

Installation :: How To Make SSD Exclusive Boot Device

Jan 28, 2016

I have a dell xps desktop. It came with a standard HDD with windows 10. I added an SSD when I bought it and have used that for the OS and applications, I was able to set it to boot to that drive, I formatted the HDD that came with the computer and used it as storage. This has been the case for around 3 months. Yesterday, the storage drive (the one that came with the OS and whatnot) was wiped with killdisk, not just re-formatted.

Once the kill disk was completed I was still using the internet as usual with the SSD, since I had it as primary. I noticed I didn't see the storage drive listed under computer, so I rebooted. Now, It wouldn't boot to the ssd because I assume the original HDD has the boot manager on it, but the whole disk was zero'd. I installed 8.1 onto the HDD. I can now see my 224gb SSD in disk management. I just want to know how to make the ssd the exclusive drive that runs the os, boot manager etc on this computer. Here is a pic of my disk management ....
