I just upgraded to windows 10 and one of the things that bugs me is the file explorer on task bar load very slow. It takes around 1 seconds to load if I click on the explorer on task bar. However, if I use the win+E button the explorer open instantly.
I tried to create shortcut from the file explorer exe in windows folder and the time it take to load is about the same with loading on task bar.
So in my bootlog i have a dozen of BOOTLOG_NOT_LOADED lines as seen in this screen shot of my bootlog...
These errors are causing my load times to go on as long as 3 mins and alot of sitting at a black screen, also safe mode is a bit better and often results in getting past the black screen alot faster.
I do have a recovery disc for a last resort.But as you can see these go on for quite along time and carry on going like this for the next 3-4 thousand lines .
Every time I go to "This PC" section in my file explorer it never loads and is very slow. If I try to launch it from the Start I get what's shown in the pic. I can still navigate to other places on my drive and access the files as such but I cant use this section.
View 5 RepliesI've had Windows 10 for a couple weeks now, my laptop is running pretty slow (was bad before the update, I figured because it was mostly full but didn't seem to get much better after freeing up some space) and as of a few days ago File Explorer stopped loading most of my folders. Whenever I tried and go into one, e.g. Click on "Documents" it just says 'working on it' and endlessly loads. Thought an update might work but Windows Update won't work either, I just get the endless loading dots.
Btw I'm using a HP Pavilion DM4 Notebook (Beats Edition)
Is this normal? my computer turns on, i get a black screen for about 35 seconds followed by the logo and a spinning circle and then after typing in my password i get another 30 seconds of waiting before it loads. it wasnt doing this when i had windows 7, is this just normal for ten?
View 1 RepliesI don't remember how or when I made a change in File Explorer, but each time I call it up now, I get a slow moving progress bar in the bar where it identifies the location. I noticed there in the search bar it shows where it is going: "search (J:) Jack" as an example.
How do I stop this? It takes a lot of time, depending on the folder.
Ok so since upgrading from 7 to 10 file explorer has been a absolute nightmare! Everything was either incredibly slow, didn't happen or only partially load. After enduring this to this day I have decided enough is enough and started diagnosing by limiting the startup services using MSconfig.
After going through enabling startup services groups at the time and restarting the computer everytime! Eventually I found the service that was causing the problems with file explorer. The service is called Windows search and once disabled it restored functionality to file explorer. The search function in file explorer works but the search in the taskbar doesn't.
Step by step guide:
1. Hold Win+r to open run
2. Type msconfig and hit ok or enter
3. Click Services
4. Navigate to Windows search (you can sort the list in descending alphabetical order)
5. Uncheck tickbox
6. Click apply then ok
7. Select to restart now
My new laptop has Windows10 pre-installed. It crashed and file explorer won't now show recent files. It seems to be showing recent folders but there are no recent files. Settings/personalisation/start shows "recently opened files" is turned "on" and File Explorer is showing on the Task Bar....
View 1 RepliesSo whenever I want to attach a file to an email for instance and I go to browse thru Windows Explorer, it literally will just sit there "We're Working On It" and it takes a few moments to come up. What could be causing this? I have 2 256GB SSD's so I hope they're not on their way out.
View 5 RepliesRecently a change occured (after an update?). I have a folder containing only 6 shortcuts, linking to devices or to drives, connected to devices, in my home network. Opening this folder takes about 30 sec. It has to do with those shortcuts that link to drives, connected to devices, which are off.
Apparently, file explorer, when trying to present the shortcuts, also tries to get some info from those drives. After failing, file explorer nevertheless decides to present the shortcut after long waiting time. This effect has come recently in W10. In most cases, the effect is there, but in a few cases, the map is opening normally.
I can't open some of the PDF ffiles on my client's server. an error message come on stating that the ' file name is too long'. I can open other files with short name without any problem. I have tried to copy and paste the file on my desktop so I can rename the file but without success. Also tried to right click on the file and open it with fox-it or MS PDF reader but this did't work either. if tried to rename the file or open it with another software the page goes simply closed and and desktop opened.

View 3 RepliesI know there are several threads by this name, but my problem, as far as I know, is quite peculiar and I haven't seen anything similar to this in any thread. Yesterday I did a clean install (actually I wiped the whole hard drive and converted it to MBR since it was in GPT and Windows wasn't letting me install it on GPT filesystem) of Windows 10, and installed all the necessary drivers and the basic essentials. I don't know exactly when but after I was done doing some housekeeping, my Windows started taking too long to boot. What happens is that it shows the Windows loading screen (like in the image attached), does the boot animation for about 5-10 seconds, then blinks the screen momentarily, and then shows the Boot animation screen again. But this time, the loading circle animation is really choppy and the pixels seem to be slightly blown out. Then it takes a good 1-2 mins at that screen and then shows the blue screen with loading animation, shows it for another 15-20 seconds and then shows the Login screen.
View 9 RepliesI want to delete a folder on my second hdd because i'm cleaning everything up but there are files inside it which have a too long name... I already tried things like trying to delete the folder manually with CMD.exe and a program called Total Commander but it just won't work. It keeps telling me I can't delete it because it has a too long files name. The files inside the folder are AECACHE-files which are from Adobe After Effects. I'm on a 64-bit version of Windows 10 by the way.

View 9 RepliesI'm desperately trying to improve my boot times given I'm using SSD and when I used Win8.1 I used to have 8 seconds boot time.
This is a clean Win10 installation and all drivers are up to date. I'm using an external eSATA HDD for backups. It seems that Windows is searching or accessing this HDD quite extensively during boot, just before the lock screen.
By default the boot time is 43 seconds (either restart or cold boot when fastboot is on or off). When disconnecting the external HDD, the boot time is about 20 seconds.. which is far more acceptable.
I know there's a hidden partition of 128MB that windows created on that drive but I don't know why and I can't see this partition on Disk Management tool.
My question is, any guide on using a tool to see what's going on with the partitions of the external HDD and possibly delete this 128MB partition in hope to improve boot times.
Started with a dual boot Windows 7 pro / XP HP Elite 8300. Upgraded Windows 7 to 10 and now it seems to take forever for the boot menu to show up. I can hit restart, it shuts down then just sits there doing nothing for several minutes. No hard drive activity, no video just the power light. Then it looks like it reboots and finally displays the boot menu.
With Windows 7 it went through the normal boot process and displayed the boot menu without the dead-in-the-water pause.
I just bought this new ASUS K550J laptop and came with Windows 8.1 with it but I wanted to install Windows 10, fresh install. I did the usual things needed for installation and it was ok but it takes too long to boot up. Here is a video of what am I speaking. It's UEFI and I think it's the Windows Boot Manager, how can I reset it?

Previously if I double clicked the shortcuts of Steam, Origin and Uplay while they were running instantly maximized their windows. Now if I double click them it takes a long time before they are maximized as if the computer is reloading them from scratch. I also have GOG Galaxy as a shortcut but it does not happen with that icon. What do you think changed?
The only thing that IO think might be related is that I disabled indexing of C drive but I later found that it was not a good idea and changed it back to indexing enabled.
I've upgraded my laptop from W8.1Pro to W10Pro. At first everything was fine, but now the boot is very slow with the icons taking ages to appear on the desktop and the taskbar. I've removed almost all the automatic start up items, defragged and reinstalled the graphics driver.
View 2 RepliesI started experiencing this after my brother installed some malware on my pc while playing CS GO. I have removed all the malware i could find and have ran memory and disk tests which have shown me nothing but positive results, but when i run furmark the disk usage climbs to 100%. I also have noticed my nothbridge overheating which might be the issue. I also have a shady 600W psu that needs changing because it is old and I don't trust it.

Edit:I found out the reason for my hdd stopping while under load was that one of my 6 pins was a 2molex to 6pin adapter and one of the molex cables was also the one powering my hdd through a sata power cable.So i plugged in a different one and now it's fine.
No matter which video player I use, nor which video format I am trying to play, the file hangs sometimes for several minutes before finally playing. Sometimes I have to manually close the program and start it again because it just takes too long. This seems to be happening with all video formats, all players. Got me stumped and it is very annoying. These are files stored on my hard drive, but it is also happening with streaming live video from the internet. I usually have to stay connected to the video site for several minutes before it starts to play.
View 3 RepliesUnable to load media file to Sony Vegas Platinum 13.0 since I upgraded to windows 10 from 7, error message Unsupported Open GL version. HitFilm requires 2.0 or above. Current hardware GL 1.1 GLSL 0.0. This happened after the upgrade to windows 10.
How do I get the GL 2.0 or above?
Under the Network tab of File Explorer, I can see three entries, one of which is my router (with attached Hard Drive) and two computers, each running Windows 10. When I expand the router entry, I can see my hard drive files. I can also see my Users icons when I expand one of the computer's tabs. However, when I click on the other computer's name to search for users, all I see is a message that "This folder is empty". In fact, the folder is not empty, as there are two users on the computer. How I can get this computer to show users, etc.?
View 6 RepliesUsing Win10 Pro x64. I would like to disable windows showing .zip files in explorer as a folder...When you highlight it the contents inside the .zip are shown in the right pane view. I've scoured the net and found ways for Win7(which I did disable .zip folders on my other Win7 machine) and Vista, perhaps 8 too but I don't want to risk trying a method for older versions of windows. Any solution/reg hack or whatever to disable .zip folder?

Problem: When I go to File Explorer, in the left panel, when I click on a folder name, the contents of that folder (both sub-folders and files) show in the right panel.
In the left panel, when I click on ">" beside a folder name, it will expand in the left panel showing the sub-folders, but not "loose files".
I could have sworn that in earlier versions of Windows the files also showed.
Is there a option setting somewhere to change this behavior and to show the files also in the left panel?
