Performance :: Getting OS To Automatically Make Restore Points?

Nov 6, 2015

So far I only received a restore point for when I installed a LAN driver and when I make them manually. Why can't it create more like it used to?

Performance :: Creating Restore Points?

Jan 1, 2016

Is there an application, freeware or paid, that works in creating restore points in Windows 10, so if an installed application messes things up, I can restore the saved point, so Windows 10 loads as if the application was never installed in the first place, and Windows registry etc is restored to as it was BEFORE the application was installed?

Performance :: Why Do Restore Points Vanish

Jan 28, 2016

I have never had many restore points on my 2-in-1 Tablet, presumably to do with the small size of the SSD. But recently I have found the couple or so I normally have, disappear every day. I have been having to replace them every few hours. Why is this and what can I do about it?

It does not seem to be anything to do with the configuration in the Protection configuration menu --- it has not been changed, and there are several GBs of space allocated. Even so, is it to do with the fact that the free space on my C drive is low and frequently drops lower? OR what?

Performance :: Can't Find System Restore Points

Nov 3, 2015

I usually see the restore points created by windows but it isn't everyday backup, so I want to do a daily restore point backups, I went to Task Scheduler >> Windows>>System Restore, there is a task already there, I changed it to be daily at 4am, and It's enabled.

I check everyday in history and I see that the job is successfully done, but if I go to restore points I don't see any of those backups except the ones which Windows creates randomly or after installations.

Performance :: Windows Update Removes Earlier Restore Points

Jan 30, 2016

Some earlier automatic Windows 10 updates removed all my earlier restore points and set the protection settings of the C: disk off.

The recent Windows 10 update (Jan 29) again removed all my earlier restore points. This time the protection setting of my C: disk was still on, but the settings of the disk space usage was set so low by the update that there was space only for one restore point (the critical update).

Updates :: Restore Points Turned Off After Update

Nov 16, 2015

The fall update removes all restore points - cannot restore to prior to update. Also, it turns off protection settings in CP/System Protection/Configure. You will have to press button to turn on system protection and assign disk space for restore points. after Fall Update completes and create an initial restore point.

Updates :: Automatic Restore Points Before Update Install?

Aug 7, 2015

I am wondering if Windows 10 will automatically create restore points before installing forced updates. If not, will we be notified about these updates before hand so we can make restore points manually? In previous editions of Windows, we were often offered optional or recommended updates. Will such updates be forced or not offered any more?

On my HDD there are two partitions, one with Win 7 and one with Win 10, chosen by the Win-Boot-Manager. If I start Win 7 all the recovery points from Win 10 are lost. But starting Win 10 all the "7-points" are still there.

Performance :: Restore Does Not Indicate Correct Drive For Source Of Restore

Dec 16, 2015

I have recently had to re-install Windows 10 and had problems before so decided this time to do a clean install and then run the system image backup. This went well but when it came to the testing of the restore a problem arose. I was using the Repair Disc created after the system image backup completed and could not understand the source file indicated was not where I had put the backup.
The restore said the file was on the C: drive which was what I was trying to restore to.

How To Make Lock Screen Come On Automatically

Apr 1, 2016

My computer used to go to lock screen after a while, but has stopped recently. I can't find out where the setting is that adjusts this. When I poke around in lock screen settings (personalization > lock screen> screen timeout settings) I can indeed make the screen turn off after a period of time, but it doesn't go to the lock screen. If I wake up the computer it just goes back to the desktop. What am I missing?

On Screen Keyboard Will Not Automatically Resize To Make Way

Jul 31, 2015

Here is the problem I have experienced for the on-screen keyboard (with or without tablet mode),

- When the on-screen keyboard comes up, the windows will not automatically resize to make way. The Keyboard will end up covering the window. (In Windows 8.1, all windows will resize.) (In Windows 10, only Store App and Microsoft Edge knows how to resize.)

I had upgraded to win 10 about two months ago. for the last two days my c drive is getting filled up automatically. It is in excess of 90 gb and yet yesterday It was full. I tried to check on dosv files etc but to no avail. I then decompressed all files using the option under properties on right clicking the c drive and got 25 gb free this morning. I am watching uselessly as it has already reduced to 19 gb and is reducing fast with no activity and no internet down load etc from my side.

Oct 24, 2015

After I upgraded to Windows 10, my system won't go to sleep automatically. The display will turn off after the idle time I've set but the computer remains on. I've tested with setting it to sleep after being idle for 1 minute, and only the display turns off. If I manually go to Power -> Sleep in the Start Menu, it will go to sleep.

Performance :: Backup And Restore

Dec 25, 2015

Just bought a new Windows 10, Office 2016, Ultra HD Lenovo computer. Already having issues, surprise surprise! Not only are there scaling/blurry issues with some apps, but Windows Backup and Restore is displaying the following error:

The semaphore timeout period has expired.

I'm trying to backup to an external Seagate drive.

I've tried several fixes as I was previously having this issue too ([URL]), but nothing has worked.

Performance :: How To Make System Recovery Disk On SD Card

Dec 4, 2015

I am using a small tablet with Windows on it. It already has little space (32GB which is actually 29 GB), with Windows eating up a ton of space. Now, with a virtual partition on the tablet reserved for system recovery, I have less than 5 GB left, not enough for Windows to update. I would like to merge the virtual partition so as to get ~5 GB extra space, in or to do so I would like to make a recovery disk on a SD-card.

The problem is, Windows does not seem to recognise the SD-card when I try to make a recovery disk! Is there a workaround, or did I get the SD-card in vain?

Performance :: Can't Restore From System Image

Aug 20, 2015

I created a system image on a Seagate external hard drive using Windows 10 Home, and I created a restore disc for booting with an external BUFFALO DVD drive connected to a USB port. I went into the UEFI and set my BUFFALO drive as the first drive to be used for booting at power up or reset. When I restarted the computer, a message appeared saying "Press any key to boot from CD or DVD". I pressed a key. After a few minutes, the following screen appeared:

I used the down-arrow key to select US and hit enter. Then the following screen appeared:

I used the down-arrow key to select "Choose Device" and hit enter. Then the following screen appeared:

This screen gave me only two options: (1) Boot with the BUFFALO optical drive, and (2) Boot with the Solid State Drive which the HP Spectre x360 has (instead of a real hard drive). When I used the down arrow to select the BUFFALO optical drive, the screen that asks for the desired keyboard layout reappeared. When I selected US and hit enter, the screen that asks for a booting option reappeared. When I selected "Choose Device" and hit enter, the screen that gave me the option to boot with either my BUFFALO optical drive or the Solid State Drive reappeared. I found I could keep going around in circles like this, without ever having an opportunity to restore the computer with a system image I had created earlier.
