With Windows 8,1 I was able to sign out of my account and then put the PC to sleep (or shutdown, restart or hibernate) by selecting the option in the sign-in screen. But there is no power icon or any power options on the Windows 10 sign-in screen. I can only put the PC into sleep mode while signed in.
View 3 RepliesHave been running Windows 10 on a Packard Bell laptop since August and suddenly the login screen password box is disabled on start up. None of the sign in screen options (power options, language, etc.) are enabled. I can't get to any safe mode boot options either so at the moment I'm stuck.

I have tried going to settings from all the places you can and it makes no difference.
I have run sfc /scannow and it does detect corrupt files but I have no way of repairing them
When I try and access sign-in options in the settings account screen, I get the dreaded dots that shoot across the screen but the sign-in options don't open.
Also i cannot access my microsoft account, when I try I just get the circle of dots.
I have all the setting I can find that when I close lid to laptop it does nothing when plugged in. I have it set to do not sleep unless I tell it too period. Yes went through 'all' settings. So it will run scans, maintenance etc during night but like lid closed. But when I get up and open lid it wants me to sign back in and scan say it couldn't run.

View 2 RepliesUgraded from windows 10 rtm to windows 10 th2 and lost the option to restore a power plan to its default settings, so when i edit a power plan, i cant reset it to the defaults, is this normal with th2??? The first screenshot is of the option being there, well what its supposed to be and the other two are of my setup, as you can see i change a setting to see if it would pop up to restore defaults and it just doesnt....
View 9 RepliesI apparently have Fast Startup enabled after upgrading to Win10. I would like to turn it off so I am not automatically logged on when I power up. (We don't have the IDs password protected on this desktop PC.) There are very simple instructions given in a TenForums tutorial, but my Power Options don't match what is shown in the tutorial. In particular, under Shutdown Settings I have only Sleep and Lock - no "Turn on fast startup"; no "Hibernate". Since this is a desktop there is also no "On battery" options, but that is obviously not a concern. But is the option of turning on and off Hibernate available only on laptops?
View 3 RepliesIn Windows 8, I could right click on the task bar's battery icon and then swap between pre-set power settings. In Windows 10 this is no longer possible. I need to right click on it, then click on power options and then there select the new power plan. so one EXTRA step. I know it does not sound like much, but it is 50% slower...

I added a registry tweak that unlocked the power option to park the CPU...I am running a PC so battery life or power use is not an issue..just want to be clear about the min and max settings....thought it would be just ON or OFF...its the %s that confuse me....So if i set the min to 100% I assume that turns oof parking completely ?If I set max to 100% this allows the CPU to go to the max it can ? So is the min setting for parking ? and the max to just restrict the max the CPU will run ?If these assumptions are correct....what are the %s in between for ?

View 14 RepliesI installed an application "Clone File Checker" and uninstalled that using "iObit Uninstaller" with Power Unistall" option. After that, i am not able to open Control Panel, Programs & Features, Power Options and System from the Start Menu. Clicking on each of these gives an error in the enclosed screenshots, but all of them display the error message "This file does not have an program associated with it to perform this action. Please install a program, or if one is already installed, create an association in the Defaults Program Control Panel". Only the file names are different. When I try to set the Default Applications, I do get a similar error message.
Moreover, clicking on the File Explorer from the Start Menu opens the Explorer screen, but when I pin to the Taskbar and subsequently attempt to open tit from Task Bar, I get an error message.
I've had a problem where Windows was booting up fine sometimes, but other times it couldn't find the desktop settings, and I couldn't open any files (even though I could browse the hard drive) and there was no Start menu.
I've been trying various things to fix this, one of which was to set up a new user account. I followed instructions to open Powershell and I typed "net user TestUser password /add". It said it was successful.
Now I cannot even get into Windows. At the sign-in screen there are no users available at all (I just have the nice picture of blue window). I have tried shift-Restart to get to the troubleshooting options, but this doesn't work, it just restarts the PC and I get back to the same sign-in screen.
During boot-up, I get a blank screen (shows cursor arrow which responds to touch pad movements), after the sign in page, which I can't I can't escape from except by forcing shut down and restart. The reboot can then take as long as five minutes to complete. I have considered using the restore route, but am warned that there is a long list of apps etc which will need re-installing, and this looks arduous.

View 1 RepliesWhen Windows 10 starts up I am requested to input a password which I know and I do. I wish to get rid of this entire sign in screen and process, so I go to settings, accounts. sign-in options , password and click on change (hoping to reset it to nothing or blank) where I am requested to put in my password. I input the same one I used at Windows 10 start up and I get the error message "The password is incorrect. How can this be and how to I find out what to input here so that I can get rid of the initial sign in screen? I somehow messed this up but cannot fix it.
View 13 RepliesBasically when i go to turn on the PC it turns on and gets stuck on the screen where it tells me to push DEL or f2 to go to the bios settings. The problem with that is it wont let me access the settings at all when i push either of those buttons. So then I turn my PC off and then on again and it boots fine. Then I check for updates to see if it's some bug and I'm up to date. So I restart to see if the problem has been fixed. And it gives me the same frozen screen of the BIOS options. Then i turn it off and it boots fine, wash and repeat.

After the update, I have Windows 10 installed on my laptop. I was not asked to change my password to a pin. I thought this was odd, because that was the process with another laptop at work that I have successfully updated. Thinking nothing about it, I proceeded, and it looks as if everything is updated properly. I don't have anymore current updates to install and have shut down and restarted this laptop several times using my password. I was wanting to set a pin, so I went into Settings/Account/Sign-In Options. The screen never shows any information and the active circle indicator just keeps gyrating in a circle. Here's a snip ....

In Windows 7 it's located under "C:WindowsSystem32oobe", but that's not the case in Windows 10. Is there a place where this image exists? If not, it might be in one of the various MUI files...
View 5 RepliesJust installed Windows 10 from Windows 7. Get a black screen without cursor after sign in. When boot up in safe mode, I get a WDF violation and automatic restart whenever I attempt to go to a recovery point or any other option. This creates an loop that I can't break. I am able to access my web browser (chrome) and Excel by pressing control/alt/delete and using the new file feature on the Task Manager.

View 9 RepliesI installed windows 10 from 8.1 on my Vision E2 Gateway. When I sign in, the desktop keeps flashing a black screen every second. It doesn't allow me to open anything, I can't click on any icons visible, and this has been happening ever since I first signed in with windows 10. Is it a virus or something? It can't be that my computer isn't compatible, because it TOLD me it WAS.
