I recently upgraded my system to Window 10 from 7. But the printer-HP LaserJet M2727nf- failed to operate, even after reinstalling the printer software. Nor I could extract from winzip files. I reverted back to Window 7. All fine now.

I installed windows 10 technical preview yesterday . I found a problem with system restore. It goes through everything normally but after it reboots I get an error. In the details it says:
System restore failed to extract the original copy of the directory from the restore point.
Source: %ProgramFiles%WindowsApps
Destination: Appxstaging
An unspecified error occurred during system restore. (0x80070057)
My daughter backed up her computer on an external drive. I would like to extract some picture files that she saved on her computer for me several weeks ago, but I do not want the backup file to open up on my own computer. Her computer is being shipped in for repairs.
Is there a way that I can access the files without actually opening up that whole backup file? When I click on the image, it does not give me an option to "view files and folders".
I connected the printer to my computer and I'm able to print pages from a browser, my problem is I'm unable to access the printer directly to scan files. I've tried deleting and re installing that didn't work. The printer is an HP Deskjet 3050 ...

View 6 RepliesSo I've done a sfc /scannow for maintenance and noticed that there were some files that could not be repaired. And instead of writing this on a old topic I made my own.
I found a batch file created by "kronckew" . The code is:

I will upload the CBS file and the file created by this batch. I really don't want to reinstall my Windows.

I was invited to download/install Windows 10 and I followed all the steps to download the files. Then I clicked to install it and it seemed to be doing it. Windows closed down and the computer restarted, but when it opened again it was still Windows 7 and there was a box up relating to Windows upgrades that that said the 'latest upgrade' had failed, and there was a button to click to download Windows 10 if I wanted to (again?!).
I don't know where all the files are that were downloaded and what I should do. I saw a suggestion somewhere that firewall/antivirus software can be a problem. I have Bitdefender, that doesn't allow you to disable it.. I suppose I could remove it completely before trying again? But otherwise what should I do? I don't want to download a lot of duplicate files again.
Nothing changed, nothing installed. Edge stopped working, Cortana stopped working. Mail stopped working. SFC scannow found corrupt files but unable to fix.Reset keep files and settings failed to boot and rolled back. As did remove everything.Stuck with a very broken PC that is filling logs with everything stopped working and was closed.Just defender installed.
View 9 RepliesMy SSD only has 1GB of space left, but Microsoft keeps downloading its filth onto this drive, and soon it reaches to limit (I now only have 25 mb left) and notifies me that there's not enough space left for download & installation. But after I allocate the download to the D drive, the crap it downloaded earlier are still in the C drive, taking up all the space. How can I remove these things that I know Windows is not gonna use since it's now redownloading them to the D drive?
View 1 RepliesI have been trying to setup a scheduled backup (Windows 7 Backup and restore) on Windows 10. I want to include a system image of the C: drive as part of the back up and save it to the D: drive. However Windows wont let me save the image on the D: drive, I think because I moved the location of my user files to the D: drive to save space on my SSD.
Any way to override or workaround this without having to move my files back to the C: drive?

There was also some unneeded software installed so I am wondering if I can extract Windows 10 and the necessary drivers to an external drive and then reformat & install from that....? View 1 RepliesThe issue is I have a network printer selected as the default in Windows 10. I have the option "Let Windows manage my default printer" turned off. At one point randomly, the default printer goes back to the Adobe PDF as the default.
Steps taken:
* I have checked the registry settings to ensure that the options "let Windows manage my default printer" is switched off. I can confirm this.
* Switched the default printer back to the network printer and performed a reboot. The network printer remains as the default. At some point of the day it goes back to Adobe PDF.
So far neither will Microsoft Camera HD3000 or Samsung Magican Rapid Mode operate within my Windows 10 Pro installation. It seems that there is no compatible software or drivers yet available for these apps.
The camera displays an image on the screen but will not snap a photo or do a video.
Magician does list many of the normal functions but shows a red X along side OS thus not allowing rapid mode to be executed for a primary SSD.
I do not have windows 10 (yet) so I can't test this out. I developed software that needs to be extracted. The folder that is extracted has another folder in it along with a Flash player. The Flash player needs to remain in the folder along with the folder containing the files because of the way the pathways are structured. My customers are having trouble because if they choose extract all the files are all extracted separately. The folder structure is not preserved. How can I give instructions on what appears to be compressed folder options so that the folder structure is preserved.
View 2 RepliesI have a Windows 8.1 PC with UEFI BIOS. I am going to upgrade this Windows with Windows 10. I downloaded the ISO because recently I formatted this PC so inorder to get the free upgrade is a long way! Unfortunately, the ISO I downloaded is an All-In-One type and is about 4.8GB, So for the UEFI to boot the flash drive, it needs to be FAT-32 but since the install.wim is more than 4GB, that won't work. So instead of downloading another x64 bit ISO which would take about a day in our area. I need to know if I can extract a single version i.e. Windows 10 Single Language x64 from the All-in-One ISO?
View 9 RepliesI'm on Win 10 pro with all the updates installed. I just did a clean install today think something went wrong but the problem has not stopped. The system is pretty much like new with barely any programs installed and the problem still happens. I'm using Winrar 5.21. When I try to extract the 6GB rar file, the system suddenly restarts. Also when I'm trying to build previews/analyse a large amount of files in Adobe lightroom the same thing happens. I'm assuming that any app using a lot of RAM/CPU will exhibit this issue. I suspect I have a hardware RAM or CPU issue and that it may have gone bad. How do I check my hardware first? I'm certain it isn't a windows issue because the moment the os booted to the desktop itself I check the rar file extract and the computer abruptly restarted.

View 5 RepliesI work for a small company, with a network of 25 users. We have recently replaced 4 of the users with new Intel machines.
All of the other machines on the network have retained their ability to print to the network printer after the Windows 10 update, but the four new machines cannot even see it.
I have tried the usual process of adding a printer using the wizard, and also tried locating the printer manually using the printers network address.
The closest I have got is a message telling me that the driver could not be located - i tried connecting the printer directly to a new machine in order to install the driver, before disconncting the printer and trying again through the network. I received the same 'No Driver' message.
It is worth noting that the printers access point to the network is via a Vista machine in the admin department.
I've installed W10, a couple of days back, and things don't go as smoothly as I had hoped. I have a couple of issues and lets start with using printers via the local network.
I have a Windows 10 computer, let's call it PC1, and there's a Windows 7 computer next to mine, say PC2, both connected on the same switch.
In another room there's a Xerox WorkCenter copy machine/printer, connected directly on the lan. Let's call it PRNT1. On PC2 there's a shared HP laserJet 1000 series, let's call it PRNT2.
On PC2, I run "find printer" and it locates PRNT1 and can use it with no problem.
To the PC1 (W10), now: when I run "find printer" it doesn't see any of the two.
I have a USB connected printer (HP F4100) on my Windows 10 desktop. Everything appear to be working as I have no issue accessing the printer remotely on my Windows 7 laptop. The issue is trying to access from my Windows 10 laptop. I can see the shared workgroup in explorer, but no sign of the shared printer.
How to troubleshoot this? I've gone through the basics such as disabling Windows Firewall, but no luck. Everything looks fine in the advanced sharing settings and as mentioned, things are fine from my Windows 7 machine.
My impression of Windows 10 is not great so far. This along with my machine rebooting due to a security patch even though I had "Notify to schedule restart" selected. The whole mandatory security updates kind of irks me. I kind of get it, but as a power user, I should have the choice. Especially with the amount of sketchy patches that MS has released over the years.
Don't know if this is the right area but when I try to add my Canon MP 600 printer I can't. Have tried to follow the instructions when I click on add printer but it's all Chinese to me.
View 2 RepliesI was surprised to see that when I went to print a file from Edge, which required access to Printer Properties to adjust scaling, the facility was not enabled. IE used to handle the need very well.
View 3 RepliesI had Windows 7 on the main computer at home. The printer was attached to that computer, with sharing turned on. Other computers in the house, some upgraded to Windows 10 and some not, could all use the printer. Now i have upgraded that desktop to Windows 10, and no one else can print to the printer.
