I have been using Bitdefender for many years, yet since the change it is no longer displayed. It is still in my list of installed programs. Do I need to disable the windows 10 anti virus option to get Bitdefender operating again?
View 3 RepliesFor 2 weeks I've been trying to upgrade my Asus G50VT laptop from Windows 7 home to WIndows 10 home. I have tried over 5 times using Windows Update and several times using the Microsoft USB/DVD installer. Everything downloads fine; and gets to the black screen with the "installing drivers" with a percentage going around in a circle. It gets stuck at 32% every time. I have to force shutdown the laptop and it rolls back to Windows 7...
There are no new BIOS updates available from Asus (laptop was released in 2009) the latest BIOS is already installed and from 2012. I don't see anything for windows 10 on the Asus Website.I have all external usb devices removed. I have tried shutting off my WiFi adapter and disabling / uninstalling Norton Security/Anti-Virus.I have sucessfully upgraded 2 other machines from windows 8.1 to 10 with no problem.
This is an upgrade install of Win 10 Pro x64.
When I start the system and after the desktop appears for a few minutes, I get an indication from the lower right portion of the screen that my anti-virus is off and I need to tap to turn it on.
Is this the normal way Win 10 handles Internet Security programs? I'm using ESET Smart Security 9.
I just upgraded from Win 8 to Win 10 and just realised there isn't a keyboard shortcut for rotating the picture anti-clockwise?

View 9 RepliesA friend of mine brought his computer to me to see if I am able to clear an encrypted mess done by a virus. Is it possible to recover that encrypted data? I know it may be almost impossible due to the lack of private key but I have an app called rannohdecrypter (made by Kaspersky Labs I think) that it's able to decrypt files provided you have got any file in both encrypted/unencrypted form. How to proceed?
View 9 RepliesRunning Windows 10 on an HP Multimedia Laptop.I am on vacation in Mexico, Outlook and Edge/Firefox timeout (Laptop) when I try to search/update. HOWEVER my Kaspersky virus dB update can access the Internet (on laptop) with no issues when I run it. I had no problems at home, the only difference is I am trying to connect at the hotel in Mexico. I have tried connecting with both wireless and lan, changed both to trusted networks and rebooted. Same problem, shows a connection but Outlook and Browser timeout. Troubleshooter does not find anything wrong.
The network is fine, I am using my Android tablet and cell phone connected to the network to send this question. Is this some location/security setting in Windows 10?
How can you get a virus by just visiting a web page & not clicking anything? To top it off, I am using Firefox 64 bit. That suppose to provided better security.

It was detected & removed by Microsoft security essentials in windows 7 but I will restore from back up & hope this doesn't happen again. I am beginning to dislike computers. Just because you visit a medical site you shouldn't get viruses.After restoring my image.I did a full system scan using MSE in windows 7 & Defender in Windows 10 nothing found.I also scanned with Malwarebytes also nothing found. Yes, I checked the root kit detector option. I know my restore image is clean.
My brother has lost all admin privileges and would like to get them back, how this happened he was doing a virus scan and it was taking an excessive amount of time and he wanted to stop it but it would not stop so he just turned off his computer when he restarted it booted in what he says was OTS mode with no admin rights. Is there a way he can recover admin rights?
View 4 RepliesI encountered something rly stupid that only happens on Microsoft edge, it looks like that and I cant close ME without going in the processus tab . i've scanned my PC with IOBIT / malwarebytes and even Windows defender that comes with Windows 10 and there is no virus in my PC but every time I open ME this page pops up with my old tabs that are suppose to go away once I close my brower.

View 1 RepliesI was recently having some problems with widows 10 so I had the bright idea to Rest my PC using the options in the settings. I then chose to "Keep my files" as I have documents that I would like not to be deleted. So I let this run and nothing out of the ordinary occurred and everything seemed to be going well. Eventually the OS boots up and I get just the the windows 10 background (the one with 4 blue windows tiles). I see this and nothing else. No windows button, no desktop apps, and my keyboard does nothing, ie no ctrl+alt+del does anything. All I have displayed is my internet connection and the ease of access button. I do have a cursor though, but it is useless as right clicking or left clicking does nothing.
View 9 RepliesI have tried selecting the Recycle Bin check box in Desktop Icon settings but it fails to take. Whilst it is checked I have tried clicking Apply. However, close out the Desktop Icon settings and reopen to find the checkbox is again unchecked. Right Clicking space on the Desktop and selecting View reveals that Show Desktop Icons is active. I have tried deselecting and reselecting to no avail. I've tried the sequence some five times, all with the same results.
View 7 RepliesIs it possible to change the displayed title of folders, which have been pinned to the Quick Access list to something other than that of the folder-name itself? IOW, change it to a title of my choosing.
I do realize I could simply change the folder-name itself, but that's less than ideal under this system's circumstances since this it has specific folders backed up daily, and they occasionally need to be restored, which would overwrite this change each time a backup was applied.
When I double click to open a folder I get an extra pane on the right side that is useless to me and takes up real-estate.
How to I change the view options to eliminate that extra pane.
Attached are 2 images - one showing the extra pane, and the other showing how I'd like my folder views displayed.
In Windows 7 we had the option of selecting which icons were permanently or only displayed when they had a notification in the taskbar. I haven't been able to find where the option is to change the settings in Windows 10, is there one?

" Tap to choose what happens with audio CDs"
If I tap, it then displays a popup at top right which says
Choose what to do with Audio CDs
It then lists 4 options:
VLC,
Windows Media Player
Dropbox
Take no action
How do I add a 5th option ? (ie another program which is installed on my PC)
I want the choice of 5 options to bedisplayed every time I insert an audio CD.

I recently upgraded to 10 but I have a slight issue with 'My Documents'. Most of my files are in folders in My Documents and in Windows 7 I was able to filter by most recent updated with folders listed first followed by the documents which are not saved in folders. I have not found a way to duplicate this convenient display in 10.
I have followed the advice a number of times by going to Internet Options> Security tab>scroll down to display mixed content> enable, apply, and reboot.
