Microsoft just keep saying "you can change the specific thumbnail image"
ALL I want is like in Windows 7 where my video thumbnails show a random frame of the video vs the windows 10 which shows the first frame.
All my videos have an intro so All I see in my folder of thousands video is an intro thumbnail. Not useful what - so - ever.
When opening a folder containing pictures how do I get win 10 to show a thumb nail size image...
View 3 RepliesSo, I have just bought a new laptop (Dell Inspiron 14) running Win10. After Win7 everything is a bit of a shock. The current problem I have encountered (there are many more) is that I don't seem to be able to force Win 10 to make Photoscape the default app for managing images. I can open individual photos with the program but only by using the 'open with' option.
Trying to use 'Settings', it tells me Photoscape is there, however, it is listed as 'unavailable'. Furthermore, when attempting to make the change Win 10 lists only its own photo app or 'Go to the store'.
Recently I have seen that my laptop desktop seems to have a "frame" on it. I have marked the frame on the attached screenshot. I can't seem to get rid of it.
(1) how it happened, and (2) how to get rid of it permanently? It has no effect (except for my frustration) on the workings of my laptop. The "frame" cannot be re-sized, nor moved.
On my windows 10 I got this weird ghost frame on my desktop. if I click Win + D. it disappears. but if I open any pregame. it comes back.
View 9 RepliesWith Adobe Reader DC, the folks at Adobe made every thumbnail a plain pdf icon. They removed the preview where the pdf icon is replaced by the first page of the pdf file. Seeing the pdf content is much more useful than just looking at the same icon for every file.

Can I use the Snip Tool to Snip a Still Frame from a You Tube Video?
If so how do I do this at full screen without the bottom Task Bar getting in the way?
I included a screenshot below of the thing I'm referring to, because I've never been told what the actual name of it is.
Basically if Windows has been running a long time, the thumbnail previews for windows (from the taskbar) start to hang indefinitely until I click on them, or in an unfocused window. As you can imagine, this gets really annoying when I just move my cursor over an item in the taskbar, and one of these thumbnails pops up indefinitely, until I manage to make it go away manually.
I need a video converter that will convert the video and keep the same codecs, bit rates, etc. and will set a thumbnail for the video.

View 2 RepliesBy default .cur and .ani cursor files are not associated with opening by any program, and a thumbnail of the pic contents is displayed in the file explorer icons. When I assign a program for opening the file (ThumbsPlus, ACDSee, RealWorld Cursor Editor, whatever), the contents thumbnail changes to that program's icon. No more thumbnail or preview in the pane either. The only way I can get the thumbnail to return is to go to settings and Reset all default apps (which de-assigns those file types back to no program association).
Workaround is I use the "open with" menu command and make SURE I uncheck the "Always use this app to open...." box.
This does not happen to .jpg, .png, .ico or any other graphic type file. They all show thumbnails no matter what the program association. Only .cur / .ani.
Is this something we live with in Win 10? ...or am I "special"? I don't remember seeing this on Win 7, XP or any in history.
The pic below shows the thumbnails with "Opens with: Unknown application". As soon as I assign, no more thumbnail...
Windows 10 entered my computer when the auto update for windows 8.1 came on. My computer went bad! Spent about 10 hours on the phone with Microsoft techs. For example, I sent an e-mail to some friends with photos (not in attachments, but straight on the e-mail).
When the person received the e mail and opened the attachment with a photo, they gained entry to my total personal photo collection! I am now back to windows 8.1, one drive has been disabled. However, I am left with the problem that When I go to my folder with my photos and click on a thumbnail to enlarge it, I get an error message. The photo won't enlarge.

I created system image backup file at least once a week. I did one yesterday, and today I needed to run it to restore my system. To my horror, I cannot find way to run it. I ran system image backup restore multiple times. I know how to do it...... until today. Today, by the time I clicked Troubleshoot option, there is no Advanced Options to choose from. Instead it sent me to Startup Settings option where I could go to safe mode etc,
I ended up running a system restore. Good thing I do create restore point religiously. But, after system restore, I still have the same problem.......... cannot restore image by using system image backup.
adding............... I went to my other laptop running Win 10 Pro, I had no trouble running system image restore.
Why doesn't Windows provide the location of the spotlight lock screen image? I really wish they would. Any one else see an image and wonder the physical location of the image?

In Windows 7 and previous Windows OS's, the thumbnail of photos rotated with the actual photo but in 10 the thumbnail does not rotate with the photo. How can I correct this?
I have several machine running Windows 7 Professional that I want to upgrade to Windows 10. Question is can I upgrade 1 machine add my other programs Office etc , take an image and then use that image to upgrade the other machines. Adding a new machine using Win7 image was easy, install the image changes the license number for Win7 & Office reboot and that was it.

When I choose this option the command window pops up with no info in it. If I run ShowCasePlus from the bin directory of Image Health I am getting the Key info. How to get it from option 11.
