Updates :: 0x80070643 Error When Updating Windows Defender
Sep 22, 2015
Have had this error for a couple days now. Tried regular checks to verify system components and online image and windows update service diagnostics, cleaned up SoftwareDistribution, turned off non-Microsoft auto starting services, - all to no avail.
Also, ran netfxsetupverifier, which gave me the only error - aspnet.mof missing, which I presume is OK.
I have upgraded to windows 10 for a few weeks now and over the last couple of days it has stopped installing any windows updates, the error code that pops up is (error 0x80070643)
It's also stopping me from installing some other programs but not all.
I have tried restarting the computer, Nothing I've tried restarting wuauserv service, Nothing I've tried the troubleshooter for windows update, it says problems were found and they were fixed. I have also cleared the cache for update downloads from the following folder: C:WindowsSoftwareDistributionDownload
In the Windows update page it seems to take forever to install the updates and then throws out the following:
There were problems installing some updates, but we'll try again later. If you keep seeing this and want to search the web or contact support for information:
Security Update for Microsoft ASP.NET MVC 4.0 (KB2993928) - Error 0x80070643 Security Update for Microsoft Silverlight (KB3080333) - Error 0x80070643 Security Update for SQL Server 2008 R2 Service Pack 2 (KB3045313) - Error 0x80070643 Update for Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 Tools for Office Runtime (KB3001652) - Error 0x80070643
Note: this is after clearing the cache in the above folder location.
Not sure if it's just me, but for some reason, since the Jan 12 patch Tuesday, I no longer see definition updates for Windows Defender on Windows Update's "View your update history" page.
I, for one, am happy about this change, since those "Definition Update for Windows Defender - KB2267602" were clogging up the update history page.
Today I was warned by windows 10 that my antivirus was off. I checked windows defender (the only AV I have) and it was indeed off. However when I try to start it I get an error:
So then I went to services and tried to manually start the service, only to get this:
I've been trying lately to update my Window 10 Laptop (previously Windows 7) to the latest build through WMCT (Windows Media Creation Tool), but I failed three times,
I downloaded the WMCT from Microsoft website. For the first two times I ran it, it failed through the updating windows phase (copying data, installing drivers and features, and a third one).
I tried deleting the content in Window/SoftwareDistribution/Download, and re-running, but also failed at the beginning of "Installing Drivers & Features". I am able to download everything and "preparing to install" normally, but it is just at that phase where I get a message saying "We are restoring the previous version of Windows".
Here is a snap of the error I just got after successfully "restoring to the previous version of Windows".
I have disabled Window Defender, but the Updates of Windows Defender Definition are still downloaded and installed. How do I stop it? I tried to use the Show or Hide updates to hide the Update of Windows Defender Definition, but it did not appear there.
I am experiencing a strange issue with the updates of Windows 10 due to the disabled Defender. I have installed AVAST Free which in turn has disabled the Defender. With the Defender disabled, the system tries to update it and fails, but it also blocks the rest of the updates. For now I have fixed this by uninstalling AVAST.
Just upgraded a laptop of a friend from Windows 8 to Windows 10....all went smoothly, except when starting up get the message Windows has not loaded correctly......with an error message DRV - possibly IRQ with a number which she couldn't write down quick enough
she he has tried the troubleshooting steps, but does not want to reset and lose apps or data....there is an option to recover back to Windows 8, but don't really want to do,this ' yet '
She was unable to get into safe mode, as I have read turning off fast boot can solve this issue, or perhaps a clean boot...
before upgrading she had had McAfee and avast installed, I planned to uninstall McAfee after the upgrade...
I did a true image backup first, so that is an option also...
When I run Windows Update on Windows 10 (ver 1511), I get the following error:
Hewlett-Packard - Imaging - Null Print - HP Deskjet 3520 series - Error 0x800f020b
I looked up the 0x800f020b error code and it says this occurs when an attempt is made to update drivers for a device that isn't connected. In my particular case, this device is connected via the wireless network and appears in my list of available Printers.
When I try to download and install my two updates ( Cumulative Update for Windows 10 for x64-based Systems (KB3081455) and Update for Windows 10 for x64-based Systems (KB3081452) ) I get the error code 0x80070246 for both of them.
I tried simple things like restarting, using the troubleshooting to solve any issues, I downloaded the file named WindowsUpdateDiagnostic and run that too with no success.
I figured that it might be a problem with GlobalInstallOrder.xml like the one described here [URL] .... but I couldn't apply the solution, maybe because of the different OS.
I also downloaded the standalone updates and tried to install them but I get an error every time.So now I'm stuck.solutions that don't include refreshing or formatting as there are a ton of apps that I will have to manually install.
I have an Acer 5942G, 8 Gigs of ram, a 256 Gb Crucial SSD, i7 720 QM and a 5650m.Windows are x64.
I've been trying unsuccessfully to use Windows Update but keep getting the error code 0x800705b4. Windows Defender is turned off, and both Windows Firewall and Norton Anti-Virus has been temporarily disabled, but it still won't work. I don't know what's wrong.
I installed Win 10 a few weeks ago and today is the first time that I've turned it on since then. I checked for Windows updates and it found some and appeared to start to download and install them. Then the window disappeared and I checked for updates again. "RuntimeBroker.exe Element not found". What does this mean in Microsoftese?
I received notification that my Windows 10 reservation is now ready. After downloading and preparing to install through Windows Update, I receive a failure notice with error code 80070005.
I am currently on Windows 8.1 Pro x64. I have administrative privileges.
For several months, I've had an ongoing issue when I run 'sfc /scannow', corrupt files are found, some of which it cannot be repaired. From the CBS.log file, I found these related to "utc.app.json". I was assured that when Microsoft sent out update for DiagTracking (KB3022345), it causes a false positive for file corruption.
Also worth noting is that I currently have my boot SSD partitioned and configured to dual boot Windows 8.1 Pro and Linux. This all works fine, and I've been told this shouldn't be a problem for upgrading to Windows 10.
I would like to do an in-place upgrade to Windows 10, not a clean install, so that I keep all of my software and settings as they are.
There is an update available for windows update. But when i try windows shows no updates found with an error code 8024402F ... Why am I not getting an update for Windows 10?
I'm trying to update from 8.1 64-bit to 10 on my i7 24GB Toshiba laptop. I keep getting the message "Windows 10 couldn't be installed. We couldn't update the system reserved partition."
The very first try "failed" with an error Code C1900200. After that, every installation attempt shows "canceled" w/ an error Code 8024000B.
Note: "DISK 1" is my primary (boot) disk; "DISK 0" is my data disk. Both disks are 256Gb SSD drives. Other info is in my System Specs.
I do not see a "reserved partition" on Disk 1; could this be the problem? I'd rather not do a clean install, in order to keep existing programs/settings etc., but will do so if necessary.
Have gone to settings, thought I blocked automatic updates, but it still updates. Have old laptop and updates take what memory my poor old laptop has. Am a senior living on disability and can not buy new computer. How do you stop WINDOWS 10 UPDATES no delay updates, stop.
Halfway through the installation, it reverted back to 8.1, and I got this message. [URL] .... The troubleshooting tips leads to [URL] ...., which is useless, and this has happened three times. What do I do?
I already tried disabling my antivirus and all startup programs but that didn't work. Windows 8.1 Enterprise, Lenovo Thinkpad...
tried updating AVG anti virus but update failed: update detect running installation. Complete that installation before starting update not installing or updating anything at the moment.
A friend of mine is trying to upgrade his PC using ISO but he keeps getting an error that keeps restoring his PC back to Win8.1. His words "it finishes the install, gets to the copying files stage., then after a while it starts restoring my windows 8.1 back." The error code on the screenshot is 0x8007000E-0x2000C with the message "The installation failed in the SAFE_OS phase with an error during APPLY_IMAGE operation."
