Automatic Updates Block In Settings But Still Updating
Dec 17, 2015
Have gone to settings, thought I blocked automatic updates, but it still updates. Have old laptop and updates take what memory my poor old laptop has. Am a senior living on disability and can not buy new computer. How do you stop WINDOWS 10 UPDATES no delay updates, stop.
I have Windows 8.1 and I can not install the updates to Windows 8.1 in Windows Update because it always starts downloading Windows 10. How to block downloading Windows 10 and only download updates to Windows 8.1?
Obviously there are a lot of bad drivers for Windows 10.
Via PC/ Properties / Advanced /Hardware / Device Installation one should, in theory, be able to block. Does not work in Windows 10. Device drivers update anyway.
How do I block specific devices or all devices from auto-updating?
Alternatively, what procedure could I use for batching the sequence to "Rollback Driver" when wupdate updates/kills my device? For the sake of novice user I need to make this as painless as possible until MS fixes the issue.
before the update, when i plugged my WD Passport hard drive, it would ask me if i want to launch the autorun (which is the app to unlock drive encryption); then would open the unlocked drive in exporer. After the update, it doesn't ask me anything anymore
So i gotta open explorer & then go inside the drive (double clic it won't even launch the unlock app!!) and launch this app manually, then manually go to the drive.. Really annoying! How can i make 10 behave like it did before this update (which brings only good apart that)?
I am trying to set the frequency detection of Windows update. So, I go to this menu in the Group Policy Editor:
As you can see though, that other setting must be enabled. So, I navigate to its menu and try to set it. I do not know what should I put in those boxes though...
- How can I set the Automatic Updates detection frequency to four hours?
I have Windows 10 Home Edition, like millions of others. Like millions of others, I prefer to hibernate my computer rather than shut it down outright most nights. And like millions of others, I am getting awakened IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT because Windows 10 is trying to notify me about updates! Repeatedly.
When I want information about updates, I'll ask. I've turned off the Update Service on the Services tab of the Task Manager. After some hours or some days, it turns itself back on. A cat-and-mouse game with Microsoft. I have stopped the automatic updates themselves but I can't stop the stop the aggressive notifications. Should I be happy? At least the computer is no longer shutting down without warning IN THE MIDDLE OF A PROJECT THAT I'M WORKING ON to update. But it stills turns on at various hours of the night, cooking with its lid closed, to provide me unbidden notifications of updates.
I need to stop this NOW, otherwise Microsoft can shove Windows 10 where the sun don't shine. I own this computer, not Microsoft. Can it be done? Or do I go back to Linux?
I have my settings on to receive windows updates automatically. In the past three weeks I keep seeing that in the history all updates have failed to either download or install.
This is Windows 10 SL upgraded from Windows 8.1.At home I'm using 3G modem attached to wireless. This IS metered connection - notice the 3G part. At work I'm using dedicated connection from ISP so no need to worry.
when you update to windows 10 does it mess with your game settings like does the game have all of your configurations set back to normal after you have changed them all? ..... I have multiple games and i don't want to go through the process if i have to but i want to update to windows 10
How do I stop automatic W10 updates? Every time I have an update downloaded thing fall apart. Either Outlook stops working (Outlook not available try again later) or my Favorites bar disappears and has to be redefined, or like now, my Adobe is all sc.... up and I cannot delete adobe files or access my adobe files when I am travelling and off line. This Windows 10 is the worst mess I have ever seen in 61 years of IT/IS/Data Processing. My next PC will definitely be a MAC.
I've been using Windows 10 Home since day one and I still haven't figured out a way to disable automatic app updates. When I go to the Store settings all I get is this:
However, I am the administrator. I know that in Windows 10 Home edition you cannot disable the updates that you get with Windows Update. Does this also include the updates that you get through the Store?
I'm trying to update from 8.1 64-bit to 10 on my i7 24GB Toshiba laptop. I keep getting the message "Windows 10 couldn't be installed. We couldn't update the system reserved partition."
The very first try "failed" with an error Code C1900200. After that, every installation attempt shows "canceled" w/ an error Code 8024000B.
Note: "DISK 1" is my primary (boot) disk; "DISK 0" is my data disk. Both disks are 256Gb SSD drives. Other info is in my System Specs.
I do not see a "reserved partition" on Disk 1; could this be the problem? I'd rather not do a clean install, in order to keep existing programs/settings etc., but will do so if necessary.
Windows 10 seems to like rebooting without my permission - such as when I have a fullscreen game open, and I also miss the notification to postpone. How do I disable this? I don't have windows pro and thus cant use gpedit. The registry keys various pages suggested editing don't seem to exist.
I don't want to turn off windows update, I just want my laptop to never ever restart on its own, its a ridiculous "feature".
Microsoft has made it mandatory for Windows 10 users to update their computers. From what I understand, they have set the new operating system to automatically receive new updates by default. I also heard from a colleague that Microsoft recently released a tool that can be used to hide or disable Windows 10 updates selectively.
how there's no option to turn off automatic Windows Updates. There's only the option to allow new updates to download and install automatically. And the other option to choose when you want to install the updates. But no option to turn off Windows Update from downloading updates. If you wanted to download and check for new updates manually.
Why must Windows 10 security depend on Windows Defender to run occasional scans and to protect the computer, when you have your own security product such as example Norton. Which does regular frequent scans and has more regular definition updates than Windows Defender? If you have a high performance computer. Store apps you can get and install. Most apps have lagging and crashing issues at odd times if your in a middle of a project, watching media or playing mobile app games.
Using third party themes that Microsoft provides. Particularly themes that has multiple wallpaper slideshows. Causes desktop to act up. If you adjust if you're a gamer. Adjusting the graphic settings from Window to Full Screen or vice versa constantly. It causes desktop screen to be chopped, leaving echo past activity screens that you have closed. Which then makes you having to come to the conclusion of restarting Windows to get it back to normal.
As for pc games. If you play some games that aren't Windows 10 supported. You experience issues trying to get the game to load, crashing back to desktop or even internet stability issues for games that uses internet. It amazes me how Microsoft promotes Windows 10 with full of pride of them saying in certain Outlook Microsoft newsletter promotions. That they say Windows 10 is perfect for gaming. When it clearly proves the opposite.
If you don't want windows 10 to automatically install updates, open the Services desktop app. Scroll down until you come to the service: Windows update (Enables the detection, download and installation of updates for Windows and other programs.) Double click on it. From the new box select Start up type and change from Automatic to Disabled. Windows will no longer automatically install updates on you computer. When you want to install updates yourself, Go back to the windows update service and change the startup type back to automatic...
i was using Windows 10 Enterprise . And from automatic update, i lost my most important files . But , i have now recovered them . Now, the problem is that only two apps i.e. Cortana and Microsoft Edge are coming . And i can't find store, outlook, news and other apps etc .
Have had this error for a couple days now. Tried regular checks to verify system components and online image and windows update service diagnostics, cleaned up SoftwareDistribution, turned off non-Microsoft auto starting services, - all to no avail.
Also, ran netfxsetupverifier, which gave me the only error - aspnet.mof missing, which I presume is OK.
