I've upgraded to 10 from W7, and I've had nothing but problems with it, so i'm concerned about the installation to a different SSD than the one I'm using, my mind is telling me it should be fine as the Upgrade happened all on the same hardware, but changing the location of installation, does that affect activation?

So do I just plug in the SSD, then set the primary boot device to the CD? Then install Windows 10 64-bit to the SSD? That's it?
Also, how am I going to wipe my current hard drive?
I've just built my new PC and am ready to create a system image. However the drive I want to create a system image of is 21gb and I don't have a USB that large. However I do have a hard drive, although that has things on it already so, my question is:Can I put my system image onto a drive that already has things on it or do I need to partition?

View 5 RepliesHardware consisted of z87pro, 16gb ram, sandisk 250gbssd. Purely for office work and was fine. Upgraded to windows 10 initially and all seemed fine. Few weeks later being yesterday the pc would boot but got stuck on the windows 10 loader screen with the dots going round and never getting past it. Anyway in the end I had all my data so I formatted the disk and started again. Following fresh install of windows 10 as soon as the initial updates were applied the machine would appear to shut down but would not go off. Manual restart would lead to the machine getting stuck on the white dots going round and round.
I have also tried another SSD drive and a windows 7 to windows 10 upgrade and the same problem repeats. It seems as soon as the latest updates are applied and machine is rebooted it then fails to load the OS..I now have an image of windows 10 following install without the updates but soon as those initial updates go on the os fails on the white dots going round and round... The os shuts down with no updates and re-loads..
I'm about to build my first desktop, and I have a laptop with Windows 10 (upgraded from 7 which it came with). I don't plan on using the laptop anymore, so is it possible to install the laptop's hard drive into the desktop then move the Windows install to an SSD? If not, should I just buy a Win10 key or would it be possible to contact Microsoft about transferring the OS over?

Can I use my old hard drive for storage such as my steam library and a few applications etc even if it still has the previous OS on it? I know I'd have to set the SSD as my boot drive.
View 1 RepliesMy original Seagate 2TB hard drive crapped out on my HP Pavilion 500-424 PC. I bought a new 2TB hard drive along with a Windows 10 disc to install. The sales guy said it would be like installing a normal program from CD, just put it in and follow the prompts. Trouble is I keep getting a no OS message, boot device not found, hard disc 3FO. Apparently I'm missing something big here. Any way installing Windows 10 on a blank internal hard disc ?
View 1 RepliesI was under the impression that I was going to have a hard drive failure and purchased a new hard drive and cloned windows to it. it turned out my drive is fine, so I would like to use the drive as a second drive in my system.
if I just plug it in, will my computer boot from the now C: drive or will it boot from the second drive, since it is a bootable drive?
Or can I plug it in after it booted up?
it is installed and the power is connected, but the data cable is not.
I gave my C: drive a name so I can find it in file manager and don't format the wrong drive when I plug in the second drive.
I am gonna upgrade my pc very soon and I am gonna switch pretty much everything except my hard drive. I am aware that I will have to re-install windows so I am gonna buy windows 10 home 64bit.

I've already upgraded to Windows 10 on my desktop PC, and there were no issues with the upgrade. However, I work from home and my work has informed me that they won't accept Windows 10, they will only accept 7 or 8.1 as their operating system (they also only accept Internet Explorer for browsing, etc.). So I can either downgrade, which I really don't want to do, buy a second PC, which I can't afford to do, or (I'm hoping) create a new partition and run Windows 7 from that.
So my question is, is it possible to create a new partition for Windows 7 while running Windows 10 on my main partition? Will I have to downgrade and install Windows 10 later? Or can I do it from Windows 10 already?
I previously used windows xp and just went and bought a new hard drive and windows 10 usb. I installed the hard drive along with my old master drive, using it as slave i presume. Will it auto partition the new hard drive..

My first question is, can I get the 10 installation media without buying it and if so, how?

I have heard that the clean install of Windows 10 is the way to go but I don't want to go through the trouble of backing up everything. I've tried drivers from motherboard manufacturer CD, website and intel and some autodetect driver software. I always get the same behavior:
The screen start blinking several time ( black screen) before showing the BSOD then reboot and repeat it self. Even the driver downloaded by windows update have the same impact.
I've managed to install it in safe mode but when i restart in normal mode i get the same behavior.
I've tried 2 different monitors, VGA and HDMI , tried with UEFI on/off => same result.
I've tweaked once the tdr delay to 8 second, but didn't work.

I had windows 10 activated on my mac (via bootcamp), then I completely deleted the bootcamp partition (to expand it) and reinstalled win 10. Once installed, Windows automatically activated citing "digital entitlement".
View 2 RepliesSo basically, I've been dealing with this issue ever since I've upgraded to windows 10 months ago. I've done disk checks sata port checks almost everything under the sun and still have not found a solution to my problem.
Months ago, anytime my computer was shut down for more than an hour or 2 I would encounter an interesting unique problem. After booting and loading the bios screen, the next screen would be black and would hang there and I would have to hard reset and try again. I would keep having to hard reset until it would boot into the Windows Boot Manager and from there I would hit the Reset button or go to the advanced settings, and hit continue to windows 10 and it would from there boot into windows successfully.
Now you must be thinking "Simple work around! Simply boot into the Windows Boot Manager every time you shut down your computer and easily but annoyingly bootleg boot into windows 10 everytime using the Boot Manager options" and I thought the same. Unfortunately unless I let my computer get to the boot manager by hard resets at that black screen I cant get windows 10 to boot.
I've reinstalled windows 10 again for the 2nd time on a new ssd in hopes that it was a drive issue but that does not seem to be the case, This is my second install of windows 10 on this ssd. This time I've installed windows HOME instead of Pro.

There is now something I'm going to call "The Event" After a fresh install my windows 10 will freeze however i can move my mouse but no keyboard commands work and I from this point have to force reset my computer, AFTER i FORCE RESET when my computer is shut down for a couple of hours i encounter the boot problem. so this "EVENT" has something to do with whats causing this issue.
The Event was different when windows 10 was installed on my 1TB HDD, everything would lock up rather then being able to use my mouse and it would force reset on its own.
I have a new 250gb SSD I want to do a fresh install on Windows 10 on. However I've already upgraded to Windows 10. I've downloaded a fresh Windows 10 installation onto a USB for the new install using the Media Creation Tool.
Is all I need to do just boot from the USB and install onto the new disk, or will it ask me for a product key etc? cause I stupidly have Windows 10 N currently, but the version on the USB boot is just plain 10.

I have downloaded the windows 10 CD boot from here Windows 10 i have windows 8.1 home so i downloaded windows 10 home. And when i was doing the installation. it was asking me for my Product key. I typed in my Product key but it said " it did not recognize my Product key" So i quit the installation. I was wondering why it did not recognize my product key when we have the upgrade for free. Is there any other way to do a fresh install on windows 10? because i really would like to reformat my main partition and then do the installation of windows 10
