What kind of file types are accepted in Windows 10 for mobile for installation? Can it install android APK files or just the appx files? And should the apps be downloaded only from store? Or they can be downloaded or taken from other devices?

View 1 RepliesIt's extremely difficult to assign default programs (either no option for "default" or it just doesn't take my choice) for different media, but once assigned, Win10 later forgets the default program and opens it with another.I have assigned all audio file types (mp3, wav, m3u etc.) to open with Winamp. I've done this by manually assigning a default program for every single file type in "Control Panel - Default Programs - Associate a file type...", because every other option failed.
Later, after a reboot, it still shows "Winamp" in the list of file types. But Win10 now opens m3u-files with VLC player! I'm going hardcore, with registry keys etc - only need the info. some file types are not listed under "Control Panel - Default Programs - Associate a file type...". How can i assign these missing file types to a program?
I have just restored a saved version of a VM Windows 10 upgraded from Windows 7. It had a digital entitlement but the restored machine required activation. I chose what I thought was the Product Key of the Win 7 machine prior to the upgrade but it was rejected. I now realise that I may have used the wrong key but it raises a question.
How can you tell what Product Key you have used to activate an installation of Win10 which shows as activated?
Would I be able to do this with windows 10 0n my laptop or would I have to await mobile 10?

View 2 RepliesIts just randomly happens my take 1 min or 2 hours to happen from when I turn on my computer. Videos load but it just doesn't play even if you press play or skip to any part of a video and after 5-10 seconds when the video is supposed to play the plugin stops responding. Even if I switch browsers from Firefox to Microsoft edge or even chrome, the same thing happens. I also tried re installing adobe flash but still no luck. The only way I have found to fix this is to restart, usually the first time doesn't work only the second. But then it randomly happens again making me have to restart again and again and again super annoying and this problem has been occurring for about a week, even tho I have upgraded since to windows 10 since the release date on the 29th.
View 2 RepliesLast night, Dec 3, 2015, windows automatically updated and this morning my computer gave me a new windows startup screen. All my stuff was there, it seems a new version of windows was installed.
Windows 10 home, 64 bit.
I attempted to check my email the usual way, by the Comcast web site, at xfinity.com. I received error messages that I needed to enable cookies. I checked my settings and cookies were still set where I left them, blocking third party cookies only.
I re-tried several times, getting the same error messages, so I enabled all cookies. I still get the same error message, I cannot access my email because cookies are not enabled.
Windows 10 just upgraded frpm 8.1 it won't accept my pin number....
View 1 RepliesTwo weeks ago accepted prompt to reserve upgrade from Win7 home edition. It said my PC qualified. Yesterday, accepted prompt to begin upgrade. About 4 hours later after selecting Yes/No settings, and being told about the 4 included apps, the status worked up from 1% and must have reached 100%. Didn't turn off screen or power. Now I have just a cursor on screen. Is it safe to power off or was it a complete failure?
View 2 RepliesI installed Windows 10 on my laptop 2-3 weeks ago at which time I was prompted to create a PIN for easier log-in. I've been using the PIN every day since. All I've had to do is type the 4 digits (no enter) and I get signed in.
Then last night when I tried to sign in, nothing. I enter the 4 digits, and after the 4th digit, the cursor jumps to the front of the PIN characters and doesn't sign me in. I tried Enter which does nothing.
I also tried the alternate "Log on using a password", and it does not accept my password either, which I did not change.
I called Microsoft support and they told me I need to "refresh my computer", meaning reinstall Windows, which is absolutely ridiculous, as it boots up fine and has been working fine. The OS locked me out of it!
I upgraded recently to Windows 10, my computer has always had some random BSOD problems but now it's definitely worse, it used to be only while watching videos (on windows media player) then occasionally on gaming,
Now it even happens while browsing and the errors vary from one type to the other, no real constant. I read a bit online and I tried doing a verifier check but my CPU went into a blue screen bootloop so that didn't really solve my problem (had to reopen in safe mode and undo the colossal mess that was)
Not sure where else to go from there. I followed the guidelines and have uploaded a zip of the debug log, I sure hope that will give a good starting point...
I just bought a custom rig and the BSOD keep popping out every now and then. The BSOD are different every time.
Other than that, I noticed that Firefox and Origin program keep crashing as well....

My keyboard suddenly types whatever it wants instead of the letters I actually type. My onscreen keyboard still works.
View 2 RepliesSay I set MPV as the default media player. For ALL media types. Then I go into my music library via file explorer and double-click an mp3. It will ask me which app I want to open it in "or keep using MPV".
Even though there's a "Always open using this app" checkbox, it doesn't listen to it and if I shut my computer down or even just log out, it completely resets that open with dialogue... so if I go to double-click an MP3 again, it pops up.
I've double-checked that MPV has control over it's mime types in the control panel (not just the Settings app), and like I said it asks if I want to "keep using MPV". And that's just one example, it does it with my web browser more often than my media player.
I am using a Samsung Slate 2 64 Bit. Since upgrading to Windows 10, it will not print. The paper feeds as if it's going to print, the power button begins to blink slowly as if it's spooling, then nothing. It eventually times out and I get a print error, sometimes it tells me that there is no driver. I have updated the driver through the HP website, I've wasted countless hours online with support controlling my computer. I've had 3 technicians from HP just disconnect and not say a word because they can't figure it out.
My BT is working fine, I've checked. The printer works as it should with a wired connection. I have bought another identical printer and the same thing happens, so I know my printer is not broken. One tech told me that the print spooler isn't running, and indeed sometimes it does stop suddenly. What does happen is that I hit print, the printer does its typical "nothing", the paper feeds and everything stops until I reboot. It will not even allow me to delete the print job until I reboot. As soon as the computer shuts down, the job will print. I've read that there is an issue with the print spooler for Windows 10. I cannot seem to find any updates with a fix. My only solution I can see possibly is somehow go back to Windows 8.1 until Windows 10 actually works.
Well, When I set a location based reminder in PC in cortana, does it remind me when I take my phone there? I use both the OS with my same hotmail id.
Or is it like PC based reminders, will be noted only when you take your pc to that location?
Can stream audio over USB on windows 10 mobile? I want to get an external DAC and feed audio into over USB... (not mass storage mode though) just want to check if it might work.
View 3 RepliesYou know in it's counter part either Windows 10 or even Windows 8.1... You can select which Apps to use and it's a lack of experience, I have had some problems in WP8.1 because of I use certain Apps and they "read" PDFs however they can't and each time that I open a PDF, I must open it from the App because of if I use a file manager always I need to choose which App I want to use. I hope it's going to be solved! Or at least they could add a tick for remembering our options.

However on windows mobile I only find the app that sends you the code. This is sad because the android app makes it so much faster than looking up code and typing it. I might be missing something in the store or is this the case of creating better apps for android and ios?

I booted up my PC and not only did it not display the BIOS, but the post beep did not sound. I hear another beep normally, but I think that's related to an overclocking error when applying the XMP profile for my RAM. When my computer gets into Windows 10, my resolution is a 640x480 and it doesn't display my GPU, instead it displays a mobile PC display. How did this happen? I have a 27" monitor at 60 hz. It literally changed overnight, and I can't seem to find System Restore. I don't think I'm automatically booted into safe mode.
Since upgrading to Windows 10 I have been unable to download photos from my mobile (not a smartphone just a Nokia with keypad) and my Sony camera. I always use one of the USB slots on my PC or a dongle on my desk which is attached to the PC and I keep getting a message saying it doesn't recognise the source. I am completely at a loss as to what to do next.
