Disable Automatic Update From The STORE?

Jul 30, 2015

I'm aware that automatic updates via windows update cannot be disabled in windows 10 Home - does that apply to the store also.

In my Surface 3 (updated to win 10) the option to disable store updates automatically is greyed out with a message to contact my administrator (which is me!)

(I also have another win10 VM running pro where the option is not greyed out)

Drivers/Hardware :: Disable / Remove Automatic Driver Install Via Windows Update?

Nov 10, 2015

Recently I was notified that a driver installation failed. I went and checked it out, and it was a driver for HD 4600 graphics. My old system ran an i7-4790K, and when I upgraded to X99 I did not reimage my SSD.

Is there a way I can remove an update from Windows Update? The CPU I have has no iGPU, let alone HD 4600.

Disable Automatic App Updates?

I've been using Windows 10 Home since day one and I still haven't figured out a way to disable automatic app updates. When I go to the Store settings all I get is this:

However, I am the administrator. I know that in Windows 10 Home edition you cannot disable the updates that you get with Windows Update. Does this also include the updates that you get through the Store?

Updates :: Disable Automatic Reboot?

Aug 17, 2015

Windows 10 seems to like rebooting without my permission - such as when I have a fullscreen game open, and I also miss the notification to postpone. How do I disable this? I don't have windows pro and thus cant use gpedit. The registry keys various pages suggested editing don't seem to exist.

I don't want to turn off windows update, I just want my laptop to never ever restart on its own, its a ridiculous "feature".

Drivers :: How To Disable Automatic Updates

Mar 17, 2016

Microsoft has made it mandatory for Windows 10 users to update their computers. From what I understand, they have set the new operating system to automatically receive new updates by default. I also heard from a colleague that Microsoft recently released a tool that can be used to hide or disable Windows 10 updates selectively.

How To Disable Automatic Updates Install

Oct 16, 2015

If you don't want windows 10 to automatically install updates, open the Services desktop app. Scroll down until you come to the service: Windows update (Enables the detection, download and installation of updates for Windows and other programs.) Double click on it. From the new box select Start up type and change from Automatic to Disabled. Windows will no longer automatically install updates on you computer. When you want to install updates yourself, Go back to the windows update service and change the startup type back to automatic...

Two Accounts - How To Disable Automatic Login When Turn On PC

Aug 1, 2015

This is a thing that was also on 8.1 (that I hated a lot) and i couldnt remove. I have 2 accounts on my pc (home and my own account) and everytime i turn the pc on, the last account that was used logs in automatically (mine asks password actually, but the home's one doesn't, so it just logs in).

This is a thing i hate, since makes me waste time login out and login with the account i want to use. Is out there any option for disable that? In 8.1 that wasn't possible.

How To Disable Automatic Updates For ALL Hardware Drivers

Aug 5, 2015

I know there are plenty of people who for one reason or another, would rather manually manage their driver updates. So for those of you who aren't aware, it is possible to disable Windows 10's automatic driver update feature completely.

First you will need to enter the "System" window. You can get here by right-clicking the start button and selecting "System".Click "Advanced System Settings".Click the "Hardware" tab.Click "Device Installation" settings, and select the "No, let me choose what to do" option, and you'll see the options below.

If you want to manually control it, choose the "Never install drivers from Windows Update" option.

Drivers/Hardware :: How To Disable Automatic Driver / Device Installation

Aug 6, 2015

This is not exactly win 10 specific question, i had same problem in win 7, but now that i'm on win 10, that problem is still there. Here's what's going on:

I have high-end gaming PC with GTX 980 and 4k monitor and 1080p monitor as secondary.

4k Monitor is connected via DisplayPort and other monitor is using HDMI

Both of those monitors have built-in speakers (actually i don't think 1080p monitor has speakers)

But here's the problem, windows 10 keeps automatically installing HDMI audio drivers and 50% of the time when i boot my system, all my software defaults to the stupid HDMI sound.

This is extremely annoying and i'm about to pull my hair out over this. All my media players default to monitor audio, even tho windows does not select it as "default device".

Also even tho other monitor doesn't have speakers, system still thinks that the monitor has speakers and sets it as audio device.

Also when i record gameplays using shadowplay or other recorder, lot of times there's no audio on videos, because screen recorders also default to that dumb hdmi audio. I can't be bothered to check audio every time i do something.

I really need a way to tell windows 10 to STOP doing that. Here's what i've done so far:

1. under playback devices, i have DISABLED both of the monitors as playback devices.
2. I have tried uninstalling + disabling drivers for both monitors in "device manager"
3. i used local group policy to force windows not to install drivers (gpedit.msc > administrative templates > system > device installation), then i grabbed the group ID from device manager and entered it there to prevent windows from installing drivers for any audio groups.

After step 3, drivers were not installed, but windows still shows both monitors in "playback devices", only difference is that in device manager it says that this device does not have drivers installed, but they're still showing up in "playback devices", therefore all my software is STILL able to use them as playback and some of my software, like winamp, still defaults to them.

Forgot to mention, that if I disable both of them in playback devices, windows automatically re-enables them at some point. probably at boot, but i can't be bothered to check every few seconds, i just want windows to STOP trying to tell me what's best, i like my Asus STRIX 7.1 headset + 7.1 Hi-Fi home theater speaker system, i don't need some tiny jurassic stereo speakers lol.

I want to punch whoever made this feature. I mean .. what kind of an caveman would buy high-end gaming PC with GTX 980 + 4k monitor and NOT have a proper sound card + headset? Did those low-brainers in microsoft seriously think that anyone using high-end gaming PC, would like to use HDMI as primary audio? that's just ridiculous!

I think my only option is to force windows to think that i'm not using HDMI so it won't even detect my monitors as audio devices, is that possible.

Nonstop Automatic Update For Failed Update

Mar 26, 2016

For the past few days I have been having the issue were an update keeps failing in windows 10 so every time it re downloads the update it tells me that my pc is going to restart in about 10 minutes regardless of what I am doing and this is about at least 3 times a dat and it is extremely annoying.

The update is a thing called "microsoft malicious software removal tool" and windows wont let me disable automatic restarts or automatic updates and i dont even need this "update" because its just a virus removal tool which I don't need but windows wont let me cancel the update.

After Automatic Update - WiFi Doesn't Work

Nov 12, 2015

Laptop: HP-Pavilion Dv6-6c40ca
OS: Windows 10 (free upgrade)
Wireless adapter: Broadcom 802.11n (BCM9413HMGB)

I did the free upgrade from Windows 7 to windows 10 three weeks ago. It was a clean wipe/install and everything worked fine. I had working WiFi for three weeks.

Then I noticed windows updating itself when I powered-off the other night. The next morning my wifi was knocked out. Thew wifi symbol is still there, it just has a red circle with an x in it now. It doesn't show any networks. My other devices can 'see' over a dozen networks and can connect to my home network without issue.

Things tried:
-Uninstall/reinstall driver and restart
-"Roll Back Driver" and restart
-Download and install the latest driver from HP and restart
-Tried this solution to a tangentically related problem (that of people losing their WiFi directly after upgrading to windows 10)

Thoughts:
-the driver is very old (2012). the one from HP was uploaded in 2015 but when I click on the info I see it is issued in 2012
-Attempts to find the driver directly from Broadcom result here but these are all for Linux.. I am sure that Broadcom has windows drivers too, but how to find them?

(not sure how to link directly to image hosted on Google Drive. So this link is to a ss of my wireless adapters driver page in device manager) [URL]....

Updates :: Automatic Restore Points Before Update Install?

I am wondering if Windows 10 will automatically create restore points before installing forced updates. If not, will we be notified about these updates before hand so we can make restore points manually? In previous editions of Windows, we were often offered optional or recommended updates. Will such updates be forced or not offered any more?

Automatic Update Caused (Start Menu Isn't Working)

Mar 24, 2016

Yesterday morning after booting my computer, I experience the "your start menu isn't working" bug.  I contacted Microsoft support and they still do not have a fix for this well-known failure. I checked my Update History and saw that an automatic update had been installed. Restoring from my last restore point resolved the problem.  The culprit was "Update for Windows 10 Version 1511 for x64-based Systems (KB3140741)".

Updates :: Windows Update Reverting To Automatic After Being Manually Disabled?

Mar 5, 2016

1) I disabled Windows Update in Services to avoid having to deal with the updates. Later I put it on "manual" instead of "disabled". Today I find that my computer is "installing updates" WITHOUT a) my permission and b) without notifying me that there were updates to install. This thrashed my hard drive with near constant 100% usage from something called Windows Modules Installer Worker. I killed the process, rebooted after some Adobe Reader issue (unrelated....I think). Upon selecting "restart" Windows informs me that it is updating my system WITHOUT my permission. It continues, updates, says finished, restarts to 0%, finishes, reboots.

Upon restart--which takes FOREVER by the way without the "updating" message, when it used to only take a few seconds to boot up--I go to Services where I find Windows Update is set on "running". Even though I manually stopped it, and set it to "manual trigger" start....

2) After restart when I am in Services to kill Windows Update and set to manual--again--I see something called Update Agent, set to run automatically. I do not remember this service from before, and what it does different from Windows Update. I set it on manual as well.

What does Update Agent do differently from Windows Update? They are listed as separate services

What happened to make my computer update without my consent??
