I updated my Surface Pro from W8.1 to W10. In W10, I can't figure out how to add articles from MSN News and Finance applications to the Reading List, like I used to in W8.1. How can I add news articles to the Reading List?
)The Microsoft Windows Reading List FAQ has no entries whatsoever.)
I am on an iMac using Bootcamp & I have just upgraded from Win 7 to 10. Working GREAT! My only problem is Win 10 cannot read my 2 x WD 3Tb USB hard drives.
Error message" The parameter is incorrect". In Disk management it says the drives are active but RAW. I have tried the same two drives on another Win 10 & Win 7 machine & they are showing as NTFS & can be read, so no fault with the drives. I have tried changing the drive names etc but no change. So why does one machine refuse to read these?
I cannot find any solution apart from reformatting the drives which I do not want to do.
Ever since I upgraded to W10, I get this problem wherein if I insert a disk in either of my two optical drivers, it would take Windows forever to read them and if I click them before they complete loading, Windows would become unresponsive and Explorer would crash. Mind you, it also happens even if the contents of the disk have already loaded. But even though the contents of the disk have showed, they all have blank white icons.I already tried sfc /scannow and they it reported no issues.
My DVD driver is not reading that a DVD is present. Windows Media Player says the drive is empty when it has a DVD inside. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the driver (E) but nothing has changed. I'd like to watch movies again.
I did the update "circle" my computer completed it restarted and my monitors have been black and not reading my gpu now for about 4 hours. This is my second time tryingg the update. I have a nvidia 660 and made sure I had the right drivers installed before doing this. Is there something I can do to my tower to get the "asus" screen to pop up. So I can go through the the Bios menu? I have my integrated via plugged in and my had and Devi cord for my dual monitors.
Since upgrading to Windows 10 my PC has been unable to read any CD/DVD disc I put in. I hear it spinning so I doubt there's any problem with the CD/DVD Drive itself.
I was thinking it could be a driver issue, but there doesn't seem like there's any problems with it. (As usually there's a yellow ! mark if there seems to be a problem.) How to resolve the issue?
If one opens a multi-page article in Edge Reading View, how to get beyond page #1?? How or where does one change, turn pages?? I'll be darned if I have been able to find a way.. Must be there somewhere..
Since upgrading my SATA DVD/CD RW will not work. I insert a disk the light come on showing it is reading and than the drive opens and the pop up box appears stating "Insert Disk" . So I cannot install any of my software. I have read that a lot of people are having the same problem.
I went into Device Manager and it show this device is working, the drivers show 2006. The Drive is TSST corp CDDCDW SH-203N. I am Dual booting and at least get some work done on the tried and true Win 7 Ult.
When I'm reading pdf files using adobe reader, the screen locks itself after 3 minutes as it is supposed to when I'm not using the pc. But I am using the pc and I'm scrolling through the pdf file using the touchpad and yet the screen still locks itself after 3 minutes. This doesn't happen if I'm watching a video or working with documents
Laptop running windows 10, build 10586 November official release. Problem existed before 10586.
The edge browser isn't giving me the option on any web pages to use reading mode. The icon is grayed out....always. Is there some sort of trick or toggle that I'm missing? I just wanted to see how it worked.
I found out that the hard disk is 100% utilized. In Task Manager, the process that utilizes the disk the most is ESET Service. If I open Resource Monitor there are many instances of the System process that are reading the disk, not writing it. I have two partitions on my disk - one for the system and the other one for data; the extensive disk reading is done for Pictures (I assigned a folder with pictures, about 140 GB in size, to the system My Pictures folder) on the data partition.
I am not running any tests in the ESET Endpoint Antivirus software and it seems to me that the high disk activity starts when I do not do anything and just e.g. browse Internet or look at something. So, it feels like Windows is doing something, but what it is and how I can influence it. If it were disk optimizations I think I should see also disk writes, not only reads. Could it be that Windows is doing something automatic with Pictures, Documents, etc.?
I wonder what is going on - I dislike the fact that something is going on with the hard disk, making is 100% utilized and making other work very slow and non-responsive.
I recently got a new monitor, an Eizo EV2750, which Windows only recognizes as a generic PnP monitor.
I've tried connecting it thorugh DisplayPort, HDMI and DVI without any luck. The often mentioned sollution, to unlplug everything and wait 10 minutes, does not work either.
The graphics card seems to read the EDID however, as in nVidia control panel it displays correctly as EV2750. Same thing with other applications, like DisplayCAL which I use as my color management system.
Seems like it's only an issue with Windows. This issue, however, also means that I can't get full functionality from the monitor. For instance, the ambient light sensor does not work (which is typical when Windows doesn't recognize the display properly).
I have mu music collection on a QNAP NAS. This is mapped as a network drive. I can add this a loacation for Groove to get it's music from but while it accepts this is doesn;t actualkly find any music even though it's there. Odd thing the old 'Music' app did work after the upgrade to 10 but then seemed to stop after the recent update when I think 'Groove' replaced it.I found this on a MS article: If you have music stored on a network or network access storage (NAS) drive:To use a network drive with the Music app:
The drive must be hosted by a Windows operating system. You must have Windows Search and Desktop Experience features installed. You must enable Indexing for the share. If you have to install or enable these features, you may have to rebuild the index for the share to function correctly with the Music app.I don't know if these options are already enabled or how to check..
I'm not sure when this started happening. Might have been after a Windows update and the system reboot. I've been living with it for a couple weeks now.
When I click All apps in the start menu, the list is empty. The apps in the most used list are still populated and when I install a new app, it shows up as a new app. But when I click All apps, it never shows anything. Just an empty menu with a back button.
The apps in the tile portion of the start menu show up fine and I'm able to search for apps to launch them, but I'd like to be able to easily go through all the apps I have installed.
if i click file explorer right under frequent folders there is a recent files list this is a privacy issue is there a way that it wont show a list of recent files.
OK. I know how to "go to file location" and some of the other basic tips, but I am still having two issues with the Windows 10 start menu after several hours of searching reading and pulling hair out.
1) A few of my apps (programs I installed, not apps from the store) were originally in folders with no other shortcuts in them, so I decided to remove those folders and put the shortcut at the top level. This leaves me with a Mozilla Firefox shortcut which I want to rename to just "Firefox". I can rename it, but no matter what, it just stats under M in the all apps list. I also have 2 other apps with this problem, but I listed Firefox as an example.
2) When I open the start menu (before entering All Apps), I wonder if there is a way to replace "File Explorer" with "My PC" or some other label. I have already changed the behavior of this button to open the "My Computer" screen I am used to. I just want to change the label if possible.
I am unable to access the charms list that was on the right side of the screen it just disappeared it does not work by pointing the mouse cursor at the top right hand corner and I have tried Windows + C but all that does is bring up Cortana. Also I can't find the recycle bin there is not tile for it and it is not on the task bar or Desktop either.
