How To Set Permission Even Though Logged As ADMIN
Aug 18, 2015
Any way to avoid having to get permissions to open folders or move things around? I am logged solely as Admin, but pc doesn't seem to care. Not a big deal, but just annoying.

Since upgrading to Windows 10 I couldn't get the search function to find half of my stuff, so I got the computer to create a new index. Since then I've had to provide admin permission for everything, and I can't save anything in any application unless I've opened it as an admin first.

My girlfriend set up an admin account to block certain websites from me. I idiotically deleted that admin account. Now I am unable to do literally anything without permission from a nonexistent account. Every time I try to run ANYTHING, it grays out the "yes" option and tells me I need to enter the administrator password. I can't even run the command prompt as an admin. When I try to do the "net user administrator /active:no" command, it gives me a system 5 error. I can't restore to a time before she ever made the admin account because it needs permission. I can't reinstall Windows because to run the tool to make a bootable USB, I need permission. And there is NO ACCOUNT to get permission from anymore.

The firm in which I work has a Lenovo PC with Windows 10 installed. There are two user profiles on the computer, the admin and another normal account without administration rights. We have only the password of the account without administrator rights.
The network administrator had left the company surprisingly in without giving the administrator password of the PC and we cannot contact him anymore.
Now we want to install another programme and we cannot do this without an administrator account.
I disabled secure boot and have tried to boot the PC with an Linux USB Stick, but it do not boot from the stick.
how I either can reset the password of the administrator account or create an new account with administrator rights.

I had recently encountered a strange problem: time by time I am getting logged off from OneDrive and Cortana. I just turn on my PC and a OneDrive greeting window appears, welcoming me to log in and set up sync, just like I never did it before. The same problem with Cortana - she just randomly turn off and I have to set her up (entering my name, adding interests, weather e.t.c.).

I updated to windows 10 and ended up getting the black screen with a cursor. I followed some instructions to log in which worked and so am at the desktop but now whenever I open anything it doesn't appear onscreen, I assume this is caused by the same driver error (am running intel CPU + GTX 970 GPU) that makes the computer think there are 2 monitors.
how I can get into the settings to turn of this 'second monitor'?
EDIT: I just dragged the off screen settings on screen by guessing where to click in the end.

I was using skype as usual, put my computer to sleep, and woke it a few hours later. (Laptop) Anyways, I tabbed over to skype, and started fiddling with video options (I was trying out a spare webcam since my laptop's is horrible). I compared the two feeds for a while, and clicked the drop-down option for my laptop camera to compare again.
This is when my skype stopped responding, and I closed it with Task Manager. When I opened it again, I received an error telling me I was already logged on. When checking Task Manager for any skype processes to close so I could entirely restart the program, I found this: [URL] .... I have it highlighted. I can't end the task.

I have a 1 TB SSD HDD with only my OS, Programs and Games on it, with another 1 TB (Mechanical) HDD installed for my Data (Documents, Pics, etc.). I did the upgrade option (not a clean install) and for some reason now, I can't save any documents to my DOCUMENTS folder without getting an error message:
You don't have permission to save in this location. Contact the administrator to obtain permission. Would you like to save in the Documents folder instead?
If I choose YES OR NO, nothing happens. I can only save it to my desktop.
I normally do a Clean install, but wanted to get my Serial by doing the upgrade first, so when I install it, I have my Activation Code that is legit. I also noticed, Windows 10 turned of my Ethernet Devices on it's own...but that's for another post!

I am having issues playing Mp3's off an external HD & get 'you do not have permission to access' file error.
I get same error when trying to delete file. It appears all folders in my music folder have same issue.
I have tried to update SECURITY tab within properties - it states EVERYONE has access & has FULL CONTROL.

I had an 8.1 installation I didn't want to upgrade yet because I have a whole bunch of games I'm concerned about compatibility issues with. I woke up just now, having left my computer on, to find that my computer is over halfway through "upgrading Windows". I didn't want this; I have coursework that needs doing right now. Is there any way to cancel this once it's started?

I cannot get permission to save anything to my documents, or photos, do I uninstall One Drive? If So how, and is this the answer to the problem. I have seen all the do not work fixes and to be honest getting frustrated, I have changed all permissions to administrator in all boxes checked.

I just upgraded to Windows 10 and now cannot save files to my folders. I am listed as administrator when I boot up and this is my personal laptop PC, so there are no other users. I have looked and looked for where to fix this and cannot find where to do this. Everything worked fine in 8.1 before the upgrade. It tells me I need administrative permission to save the photo, etc., but how do I give myself this permission?

Windows 10 seems to like rebooting without my permission - such as when I have a fullscreen game open, and I also miss the notification to postpone. How do I disable this? I don't have windows pro and thus cant use gpedit. The registry keys various pages suggested editing don't seem to exist.
I don't want to turn off windows update, I just want my laptop to never ever restart on its own, its a ridiculous "feature".

I have had Windows 10 installed for a while and decided the other day to save anew picture from my webcam for my personal communications etc. I did get the webcam on and clicked take picture. When I went to use the picture it was not where the systemsaid it would be. Nothing had been saved. After checking the properties of the directory the system said I did not have permission to use that directory.
I also tried to download a PDF to my download directory and the file was not saved for the same reason. Their is obviously a permission problem from going to Windows 10. I previously had Windows 7 Home.

I want to delete the windows old folder in windows 10 as its hogging up quite a bit of space, only upgraded windows 8 to 10 a few days ago.
However it wont let me, I have tried disk cleanup and tried to delete the windows old folder, but it tells me I don't have permission to delete this folder, and if I try again it says that I need permission from SYSTEM to make changes to this folder.

I have just installed windows 10 and I am listed as the administrator. However, if I try to save a newly written document in a folder that I have always previously used for that purpose, I get a message which says:- You don't have permission to save in this location. Contact the administrator to obtain permission. Would you like to save in the Documents folder instead? I can not create folders or save files in existing folders. This occurs when I try to save in Documents folder or the OneDrive. I am able to save on network places though. Is there an EASY permissions fix that does not require changing permissions for all the folders.

My pc is about one year old and I was running Windows 7. Since updating to Windows 10 I am being denied access to some of my files. When trying to access some of my Word files I get the following message " looks like you don't have permission to view this file. Check permissions and try again". Another message I get when trying to access some other files is " user does not have access privileges ". I am the sole user of the PC and always have been. I have tried to solve this but have not been successful.

Upgraded to Windows 10 last night. Today, while on Google Chrome (my preferred browser) I tried to download an image into my folder (as I am the only user) and it says "You don't have permission to save in this location. Contact the Administrator to obtain permission. Would you like to save in the picture folder instead?" Then when I answer yes, the same box comes up again telling me access is denied.
I had to save it under my Documents folder instead. I had access to all my folders prior to the install. I went under the picture folder/library properties and gave my username permission (the only one without permission) and that didn't work.
