Let's say I have 1000 registered users in database table and each of them has numeric ranking value.

How can I get the position of each user in comparison to other users ranking value?

Trying To Return A Single Record For Each Client From Child Table Based Upon A Field Of Date Type In Child Table

Nov 1, 2007

I have table "Clients" who have associated records in table "Mailings"
I want to populate a gridview using a single query that grabs all the info I need so that I may utilize the gridview's built in sorting.
I'm trying to return records containing the next upcoming mailing for each client.

The closest I can get is below:
I'm using GROUP BY because it allows me to return a single record for each client and the MIN part allows me to return the associated record in the mailings table for each client that contains the next upcoming 'send_date'

SELECT MIN(dbo.tbl_clients.client_last_name) AS exp_last_name, MIN(dbo.tbl_mailings.send_date) AS exp_send_date, MIN(dbo.tbl_mailings.user_id) AS exp_user_id, dbo.tbl_clients.client_id, MIN(dbo.tbl_mailings.mailing_id) AS exp_mailing_idFROM dbo.tbl_clients INNER JOIN
dbo.tbl_mailings ON dbo.tbl_clients.client_id = dbo.tbl_mailings.client_idWHERE (dbo.tbl_mailings.user_id = 1000)GROUP BY dbo.tbl_clients.client_id
The user_id set at 1000 part is what makes it rightly pull in all clients for a particular user. Problem is, by using the GROUP BY statement I'm just getting the lowest 'mailing_id' number and NOT the actual entry associated with mailing item I want to return.  Same goes for the last_name field.   Perhaps I need to have a subquery within my WHERE clause?Or am I barking up the wrong tree entirely..

How To Return A Numeric Value Based Upon If A Record Is Returned From My Query/Stored Proc.

Oct 2, 2007

I need to call the stored procedure below. Basically what I need to know is if the query returns a record?
Note I would be happy if I could just return the number Zero if no records are returned. Can someone please help me out here? Here is my query so far in SQL Server. I just don't know how to return a value based upon the result of the records returned from the query.
GOCREATE PROCEDURE [dbo].[GetNameStatus]( @CountryId decimal, @NameId decimal, @DescriptionId decimal)AS SELECT     Name.Active FROM       Name INNER JOIN               NameDescription ON Name.NameId = NameDescription.NameId WHERE Name.CountryId=@CountryId AND               Name.NameId=@NameId AND NameDescription.DescriptionId=@DescriptionId AND Name.Active='Y'

Getting Data Based On Ordinal Position Of The Column In The Table

Aug 30, 2007

Hi
I am having a problem in auditing the column data in tables. My requirement is i have write a trigger which is capable of auditing the columns which are going to be added in the future also with out using dynamic SQL.is there any way to do so.
I feel if i can get the column data based on ordinal position then it is possible.
Can any body suggest.
My set Up is like this
I have a base_table to be audited.
I have a Audit_spec table which contains name of the table and columns to be audited.
And Audit table which actually captures the table name, column name ,old value and new value.
I have to audit only those columns in the Audit_spec spec.
If schema changes(Like new column added) happens to base_table and I want that column to be audited.with out any changes to my trigger code i should handle the newly added column ..

Updating Field Based On Record Count

Oct 18, 2004

I am trying to write a stored procedure that updates a value in a table based on the sort order. For example, my table has a field "OfferAmount". When this field is updated, I need to resort the records and update the "CurrRank" field with values 1 through whatever. As per my question marks below, I am not sure how to do this.

Update CurrRank = ??? from tblAppKitOffers
where appkitid = 3 AND (OfferStatusCode = 'O' OR OfferStatusCODE = 'D')
ORDER BY tblAppKitOffers.OfferAmount Desc

All help is greatly appreciated.

Selecting A Top Record Based On A Datestamp Field

Jan 30, 2008

This is a simple one, and I know that it has to be fairly common, but I just can't figure out an elegant way to do it. I have a table with the following fields:
OrderID (FK, not unique)
InstallationDate (Datetime)
CreateDtTm (Datetime)

There is no PK or Unique ID on this table, though an combo of OrderID and CreateDtTm would ostensibly be a unique identifier.

For each OrderID, I need to pull the InstallationDate that was created most recently (based on CreateDtTm). Here's what I've got so far, and it works, but man is it ugly:

SELECT a.OrderID, InstallationDate

FROM ScheduleDateLog a

INNER JOIN

(SELECT OrderID, max(convert(varchar(10),CreateDtTm,102)+'||' +convert(varchar(10), InstallationDate,102)) as TopRecord

FROM ScheduleDateLog GROUP BY OrderID) as b

ON convert(varchar(10),CreateDtTm,102)+'||' +convert(varchar(10), InstallationDate,102)=b.TopRecord

AND a.OrderID = b.OrderID

Delete Record Based On Existence Of Another Record In Same Table?

Jul 20, 2005

Hi All,I have a table in SQL Server 2000 that contains several million memberids. Some of these member ids are duplicated in the table, and eachrecord is tagged with a 1 or a 2 in [recsrc] to indicate where theycame from.I want to remove all member ids records from the table that have arecsrc of 1 where the same member id also exists in the table with arecsrc of 2.So, if the member id has a recsrc of 1, and no other record exists inthe table with the same member id and a recsrc of 2, I want it leftuntouched. So, in a theortetical dataset of member id and recsrc:0001, 10002, 20001, 20003, 10004, 2I am looking to only delete the first record, because it has a recsrcof 1 and there is another record in the table with the same member idand a recsrc of 2.I'd very much appreciate it if someone could help me achieve this!Much warmth,Murray

Sql is not a strong point with me so I'm just going to throw this out there. I have a stored procedure that updates the quantity in my 'CartItems' table. Is there a way to have something else happen within the stored procedure that will update another field based on other parts of the record? There is a 'lineTotal' field that I need to equal the 'pounds * itemSell' fields which are both fields within this record.

Calculating A Field Value Based On Other Records

May 20, 2008

I have two tables and they have a foreign key relationship.  It will be a 1 to Many realationship.
Table1- the primary key table has the following columns
ContentID - int identity field
DateAdded- datetime
Table2 - The foreign key table, has the following relevant fields
FK - int foreign key
version - int
When an initial record is added there is a record added to each table.  The ContentID in Table1 will match the FK field in Table2.  Then a user will be able to "edit" the record in Table2, but instead of writing over the record that is already there, a new record will be added to Table2.  I would like to calculate the version field where each time a record is added for the particular ContentID/FK it adds 1 to the last version that was added to that particular ContentID/FK.
Does that make sense.  I am trying to implement some type of revision tracking for my CMS that I am building and this is the only way I can come up with because my client is worried that somebody will go in and make incorrect changes to their site and  they want to be able to roll it back to a previous version.
I would appreciate any ideas.
Thanks,
laura

Numeric Comparison Errors On SQL 2000

Feb 4, 2008

I have several SQL 2000 servers that are running SQL 8.002162. Most are Windows 2003. Because of a note I saw in a non MS forum, I was testing these servers for the numeric comparison issue in MS article 899976, "FIX: A query that involves data that is the numeric data type may return incorrect results in SQL Server 2000 SP3 and in earlier SQL Server 2000 service packs". All the servers act as expected (fixed) since they are running post SP4 and patches. But, one server fails the comparison test scripts in the KB. All these servers are running the same version of SQL. The server that still fails is windows 2003 SP1.

Why does one server reporting to be version 8.002162 fail a test that should be patched and does it mean that although the server is reporting it is version 8.00.2162 it has failed some updates and might be upatched for other issues?

T-SQL (SS2K8) :: How To Split One Record Into Multiple Records In Query Based On Start And End Date

Aug 27, 2014

I would like to have records in my Absences table split up into multiple records in my query based on a start and end date.

A random record in my Absences table shows (as an example):

resource: 1
startdate: 2014-08-20 09:00:00.000
enddate: 2014-08-23 13:00:00.000
hours: 28 (= 8 + 8 + 8 + 4)

I would like to have 4 lines in my query:

resource date hours
1 2014-08-20 8
1 2014-08-21 8
1 2014-08-22 8
1 2014-08-23 4

Generating the 4 lines is not the issue; I call 3 functions to do that together with cross apply. One function to get all dates between the start and end date (dbo.AllDays returning a table with only a datevalue column); one function to have these dates evaluated against a work schedule (dbo.HRCapacityHours) and one function to get the absence records (dbo.HRAbsenceHours) What I can't get fixed is having the correct hours per line.

What I now get is:

resource date hours
...
1 2014-08-19 NULL
1 2014-08-20 28
1 2014-08-21 28
1 2014-08-22 28
1 2014-08-23 28
1 2014-08-24 NULL
...

... instead of the correct hours per date (8, 8, 8, 4).

A very simplified extract of my code is:

DECLARE @startdate DATETIME
DECLARE @enddate DATETIME
SET @startdate = '2014-01-01'
SET @enddate = '2014-08-31'
SELECTh.res_id AS Resource,
t.datevalue,
(SELECT ROUND([dbo].[HRCapacityHours] (h.res_id, t.datevalue, t.datevalue), 2)) AS Capacity,
(SELECT [dbo].[HRAbsenceHours] (9538, h.res_id, t.datevalue, t.datevalue + 1) AS AbsenceHours
FROMResources h (NOLOCK)
CROSS APPLY (SELECT * FROM [dbo].[AllDays] (@startdate, @enddate)) t

p.s.The 9538 value in the HRAbsenceHours function refers to the absences-workflowID.I can't get this solved.

Results Produce A Single Record Based Off Of Parameters. Want To Change It So It Returns Multiple Records.

Dec 20, 2007

I have a query that will return one record as its results if you provide two variables: @login and @record_date. This works great if you only want one result. However, now what I want to do is not provide those variables and get the result set back for each login and record_date combination. The hitch is that there are several other variables that are built off of the two that are supplied. Here is the query:

DECLARE @login char(20), /*This sets the rep for the query.*/
@record_date datetime, /*This is the date that we want to run this for.*/
@RWPY decimal(18,2), /*This is the required wins per year.*/
@OCPW decimal(18,2), /*This is the opportunities closed per week.*/
@OACW decimal(18,2), /*This is opportunities advanced to close per week.*/
@TOC decimal(18,2), /*This is the total number of opportunities in close.*/
@OANW decimal(18,2), /*This is opportunities advanced to negotiate per week.*/
@TON decimal(18,2), /*This is the total number of opportunities in negotiate.*/
@OADW decimal(18,2), /*This is the opportunities advanced to demonstrate per week*/
@TOD decimal(18,2), /*This is the total number of opportunities in demonstrate.*/
@OAIW decimal(18,2), /*This is the opportunities advanced to interview per week.*/
@TOI decimal(18,2), /*This is the total number of opportunities in interview.*/
@OCW decimal(18,2), /*This is the opportunities created per week.*/
@TOA decimal(18,2) /*This is the total number of opportunities in approach.*/

SET @login = 'GREP'
SET @record_date = '12/18/2007'
SET @RWPY = (SELECT ((SELECT annual_quota FROM #pipelinehist WHERE loginname = @login AND record_date = @record_date)/(SELECT target_deal FROM #pipelinehist WHERE loginname = @login AND record_date = @record_date)))
SET @OCPW = (SELECT @RWPY/weeks FROM #pipelinehist WHERE loginname = @login AND record_date = @record_date)
SET @OACW = (SELECT @OCPW/cls_perc_adv FROM #pipelinehist WHERE loginname = @login AND record_date = @record_date)

SET @OCW = (SELECT @OAIW/app_perc_adv FROM #pipelinehist WHERE loginname = @login AND record_date = @record_date)
SET @TOA = (SELECT @OCW*(app_time/7) FROM #pipelinehist WHERE loginname = @login AND record_date = @record_date)

SELECT loginname,
CAST(@TOA AS decimal(18,1)) AS [Opps in Approach],
app_time AS [Approach Average Time],

CAST(@TOI AS decimal(18,1)) AS [Opps in Interview],

DTS Select Using Record Position

Jul 20, 2005

Hi there, it has been a while since i have posted. I am in asituation where I am stumped. I am learning to build a dts packagewhere I am connecting to a table in an AS400. This database is beingmaintained by an outsourced company and therefore I can't change thetable structure or even ask them to. Anyway, this table currently hasabout 104,000 records. I am building a package to check it and pullout the most recent records and put them where they go in my SQLServer 2000 tables. The only way I can think of to get the mostrecent records is to use a global variable in the package to rememberthe record count and then get those records from that record positionon. Problem is, I have no idea how I would go about selecting recordsfrom a record position. Does anybody have any ideas or should I beusing a different approach? There are no time stamps to work from. Iwas told that the AS400 records, including updates, are appended tothe table, which is why I thought this approach made sense. I wouldtruly appreciate any help.

Autoincrement Record Position In A View

Nov 13, 2003

Does anybody know the function or any other way in MS SQL Server 2000 or in MS Access or in MS FoxPro that I can get an increment record position in a view?

For example let’s say that I have a table with only one field named persons. The table has three records person1, person2 and person3. What is the way in MS SQL Server 2000 or in MS Access or in MS FoxPro of retrieving the records in a view with an extra field named for example recno which will indicate the record autoincrement number in the view as it is below?

recno persons
1person1
2person2
3person3

Please help me

I will be very grateful if you also reply your answers also and to my email

Email: stavrinc@hotmail.com

Thank you

There Is No Data For The Field At Position XX

Jan 25, 2008

I am so frustrated, I don't know what to do. I have spoken to everyone that I know on how to explain this error message, but my supervisor wants to dispute every thing I tell him.

Could someone PLEASE explain the following error message and how I can go about finding what fields that it's talking about?

e ERROR: Throwing Microsoft.ReportingServices.ReportProcessing.ReportProcessingException: There is no data for the field at position 15., ;
Info: Microsoft.ReportingServices.ReportProcessing.ReportProcessingException: There is no data for the field at position 15.

I have two environments (2 seperate companies on seperate servers). In Environment #1 (referred to as Env1 from this point on) that runs the report and generates a few of these errors (10 for an example). In Environment #2, the same report only modified SLIGHTLY for the other company, runs the report and generates 50 errors. I'd be more than happy to post the log here if someone needs it.

Someone, please, save me from logfile hell. I have told this supervisor that "No data for the field" pretty much means that there was NO DATA RETURNED. We know for a FACT that these two environments are completely different. One runs on real servers and the other is running on partial real servers and virtual servers. We have identified several differences in the configurations, but he wants me to nail down EXACTLY what is causing this error. Please remember, "No Data" is not a good enough response for this person.

Please, for the love of all that is Chocolate, HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks in advance,
