Forms :: ComboBox Doesn't Display Some Values - Returning Blank
Feb 10, 2014
In a form used to record a sale for a company we have a dropdown box with the contact names for that company and when one is selected it populates other boxes like phone number etc however the combobox brings up all possible contacts but when some of them are selected all the boxes return blank, including the combobox, whereas most of the contacts work fine.
The SQL used for the combobox is as follows..
Code:
SELECT tbl_Contacts.ContactTelephone, tbl_Contacts.ContactMobile, tbl_Contacts.ContactEmail, tbl_Contacts.ID_Contact, tbl_Contacts.ID_Company, tbl_Contacts.Salutation & " " & tbl_Contacts.ContactForename & " " & tbl_Contacts.ContactSurname AS MainContact
FROM tbl_Contacts
WHERE (((tbl_Contacts.ID_Company)=[tbl_CompanyBookings].[ID_Company]))
ORDER BY tbl_Contacts.ContactForename;
I have a table of records, with one field of the records a combobox populated by a select query based onanother table.
My problem ism that it doesn't seem to recognise any of the values as on the list, though deleting one character and then replacing it results in the value being accepted with no problems.
This is a database I have inherited (Cheers predecessor!), the table is populated with a few thousand records and scrolling through this table results in an error message on this field for every record and is making displaying data on this form a nightmare! Anyone know of the cause or of a quick fix?
I don't know the history of this table unfortunately.
I have a form based on a table with just sales quotes and dates. I am using the salesquote as a combo box to select corresponding records in a subform.
Code: Private Sub cboSalesquote_AfterUpdate() Me.Filter = "[salesquote]=" & cboSalesquote Me.FilterOn = True End Sub
Works fine. But not the mgr says his users get confused when they are making changes in the subform which record they are changing so they want when they select a record from the combo box and the records appear in the subform; they want the combo box to go blank. I am not sure how to do this because if I reset the combo box to go blank; the subform records will go blank as well.
I have two tables that will contain the information that I need the third table that will be used for constant data entry to auto fill in two of the fields (Class, Rate)based on four criteria from the first two.
Table 1 EmpID Name 1 EMP1 2 EMP2
Table 2 (A Subtable of Table1 based on EmpID) EmpID ACDate Class Rate MJob SJob 1 1/6/13 A 15 100 1A 1 2/6/13 B 20 100 1A 2 1/6/13 A 18 100 1B
Table 3 Name WDate MJob SJob Class Rate EMP1 1/7/13 100 1A A 15 EMP1 2/5/13 100 1A A 15 EMP1 2/6/13 100 1A B 20 EMP2 1/6/13 100 1B A 18
I'm running into an issue with my forms. I have a form that contains a subform, that contains a list of projects. This list is read-only. To update a record, you can double click on it, which opens another form filtered on this record, and which contains the fields in the first form as well as some others.
I have a command button on that last form to "Save and close", which fires up a macro that saves the record and closes the window.
Now, the issue that I'm having is that, when the window closes and I'm once again in front of the first form with the list of projects, the values of the record I changed are not updated and when I click on another record, Access tells me there's a conflict in the values and asks me if I want to keep the changes, discard them or copy to the clipboard.
It seems to consider the old values from the first form as a change, and thus asks me which to keep between these, and the actual (proper) changes I made in the dedicated form.
For the proper changes to be applied, I need to select "Drop changes".
I tried to requery the first form, also undo the changes to it after closing the window, but none of that worked.
I'm actually basing this on one of the templates, which does exactly what I want and which obviously works...
I want to be able to display the result of a difference between Date/Time values in "HH.MM" format (i.e. yes I want the result in decimals and I don't want Access to round up or down just because it feels like doing it!). I have used the following:
Example 1:
Dim ActualManHours as Long ActualManHours = (txtEndTime.Value - txtStartTime.Value) * 86400 txtActualManHours.Value = ActualManHours
Example 2:
Dim ActualManHours as Long ActualManHours = DateDiff("h",txtStartTime.Value, txtEndTime.Value) & "." & Format(DateDiff("n",txtStartTime.value,txtEndTime. value) Mod 60, "00")
Example 3:
Dim StartTime as Double Dim EndTime as Double Dim ActualManHours as Long StartTime = CDbl(txtStartTime.Value) EndTime = CDbl(txtEndTime.Value) ActualManHours = EndTime - StartTime txtActualManHours.Value = ActualManHours
I have a requirement that will need three cascading combo boxes - the second box should only display the contents that match or are relevant to the first combo box, etc.The title of the YouTube video is:
Microsoft Access pt 9 (Cascade Combo Box)
It seems the first and second combo boxes cascade and works fine. However, the third combo box remains blank after the second combobox selection has been made.
I have three tables: Customer, CustomerSubOrg, and PORs. I have setup lookup fields that are using Primary keys for two of the tables (CustomerSubOrg and PORs). However, I ensured that the primary key fields display as the "Names" of each instead of the numbers. I also ensured I went back and changed their data type to "Text" instead of "Number" so the text appears (which seems to have worked for box #2).
How to get the third combobox to display its contents? I've attached some additional screen shots below. I know the problem is within the second combobox -- perhaps the query needs some adjustment?Unfortunately I cannot attach images yet since I am now. But I basically created two queries and used them each for the second and third combobox.The comboboxes on the form:
Customer Sub Organization POR
The Suborg query looks like this:
Table: CustomerSubOrg First Column: From field SubOrg From table CustomerSubOrg
Second Column: From field CustomerID From table CustomerSubOrg Criteria [Forms]![frmMain]![cboCustomer]
The POR query looks like this:
Table: PORs
First Column: From field PORName From table PORs
Second Column: From field SubOrgID From table PORs Criteria: [Forms]![frmMain]![cboSubOrganization]
Why wont the contents from the third combobox appear?
I have a main form and a several subforms. The main form displays potential customer data and 1 of the subforms displays the advertisement that prompted that customer to call. 1 of the Advertisements is newspaper ads and for that one we want to track which newspaper.
The subform has 3 pieces of data. The advertisement type, advertisement date and a hidden field for the customer ID to link those to the appropriate customer. There is also a requirement for a field for the advertisement source for newspaper ads.
Data Structure: Customer Table CustomerID Customer demographic data as fields
sample data Customer 1 John Smith 1234 some st somecity somest somezip
Advtypes 1 google 2 Newspaper 3 Radio
specificAdv 2 7/7/2015 Daily Press
I have a combo box that gets the advtype Then another combo box that gets the adv date the issue I'm having is I also need the source and If I put it in the combo box it only displays when that combobox has the focus otherwise only the date shows. If I try to use a textbox to display the data I can only get the firstcolumn in the combobox and not the column I want. If I use the same query the combobox uses but only having the source in the select criteria I get the same data for every record. Since there are multiple advertisements and a customer could reply to any of them or all of them.
So what I've basically got here is a form with 4 combo boxes and a button that when clicked will filter the results of a table (which is a subform/subreport) based on the values inside the combo boxes. So the problem I have is that when I open up the form it displays a fully filled table but I just want to display the row names and a blank table until the filter button is pressed.
I have a form that has 3 combo boxes and a text box that I want to be a lookup. I have a little experience with DLookUp, but I do not think that will work here. The three combo boxes are linked to queries, and Tables. The first combo box is for choosing "Precious" or "Base" metals. The second combo box is filtered from the first and displays the "Metal Names". The third combo box is to choose a "Metal Market". There are currently four options for that. I want the text box to display the "Metal Market Price" based on the second and third combo box selections.
Here is a screenshot of the table with all of the metals and their market prices filled in with dummy values for now:
metals screenshot 1.PNG Metals screenshot 2.PNG
Here is a screenshot of the relevant Form: Metals form screenshot.PNG
Here is a screenshot of the Table that relates to the relevant form: Metals table design.PNG
Here is a screenshot of the Metal Market table that the Query is based on: Metal Market Table.PNG
They are all numerical values that I need to format into percentages however Field3 could contain zero so I can't replace Null with zero. I simply want to return nothing if Field1 is equal to Field2.
Code: Public Function DegreeChecker(AGShrs As Integer, ASBAhrs As Integer, ASCJhrs As Integer, AAhrs As Integer) As String Dim Degree As String If ((AGShrs = 0) And (ASBAhrs = 0)) Then Degree = "ASBA" ElseIf ((AGShrs = 0) And (ASCJhrs = 0)) Then Degree = "ASCJ"
[code]...
The problem is, the information that is populating the query which is running this code may not be there. As in some of the fields, AA, AGS, ASBA, and ASCJ might be left blank. Unless these four fields are populated by something, it returns #Error instead of the specified number.Is there a way to say, If variable is blank, ignore and continue on to check if the next thing is 0, or if none are 0, state Potential.The information in this query is to be exported out to excel to be used as a Mail Merge file.
Row Source Type = Value List RowSource = 1;test1;2;test2;3;test3;4;test4;5;test5;6;test6;7; test7;8;test8;9;test9;10;test10;11;test11;12;test1 2 ColumnCount = 2 ColumnWidths = "0cm;8cm" Bound Column = 1
For some reason unknown to me, although the combobox does drop down when entered, the values are not visible until selected, then the selected item is visible in the combobox, but still isn't visible in the drop-down list.
I have a form with a combobox and a treeview. When I select an item in the combobox, the treeview is updated with info related to the combobox value. When I browse through the nodes in the treeview, I want to see which other values will give that very same node. I could use the concatenation function* I found at Allen Browne's site, which will return a number of values in a single string.
What I'm looking for, is basically some sort of tag cloud. If the user selects node X, the tag cloud needs to show which values in the combobox will all lead to node X. The combobox values that lead to node Y shouldn't be visible at all in the tag cloud, or maybe just shown in a different color. The user should be able to click on the value, which will trigger the combobox_click event.
how many values there will be in the table behind the combobox. That's what's making this problem difficult to solve. Putting the form in design view, adding a textbox and returning to form view is not an option. How do I create a dynamic tag cloud? Is it possible to transpose a table column on a form?
I've set up a simple query that returns 6 columns of data.This query then shows on a sub-form elsewhere in my DB.The problem is that the query always appears with a horizontal slider. Allowing the user to scroll across to see the other columns in the query...The problem here is that there ARE no other columns of data. They are just empty. I want to restrict the output of this query to ONLY show the 6 columns that i have specified.
I have tried deleting the columns in Query Designer, then save the Query. But every time i re-open it half a dozen or so blank columns are stuck on the end.
how I can set multiple default values in a ComboBox in a form. The ComboBox is based on a table and my main table also uses the ComboBox.
Example:
Main table has a column "Brands". The ComboBox is based on another table which includes the following items (and thus the ComboBox also shows them):
- CocaCola - Fanta - Sprite
The form has the same ComboBox which is linked to the main table.
Now, if a user creates a new form entry, all ComboBox items should be preselected (checked). It does work with one item over the standard "Default" property.
I have a switchboard which runs a google style search query to find people based on their first name, surname, date of birth or NI number on clicking the search button. It uses the following criteria in the query Like "*" & [Forms]![SearchF]![Firstname] & "*" for each of the above fields.
This works perfectly until someone inputs a record that doesn't have anything in one of the fields. ie, full name and DoB, but no NI number. When a record is entered in this way, the table stores the record but the search query cannot find it.
I have a form for data entry that have multiple comboboxes. I am trying to get one combobox to base its "list" on an entry from a previous combobox. The first combobox is based on a QuantityType table and has four options.
The next combobox is based on a ProductDesign table and will have close to fifty options. I want to limit the ProductDesign combobox based on the QuantityType selection which will give the QuantityTypeID. This will refer to the QuantityTypeID linked to the ProductDesign table.I have created a query that looks like this:
SELECT Product_Design.Product FROM Product_Design, Quantity_Type WHERE Product_Design.QuantityTypeID = Quantity_Type.QuantityTypeID AND Quantity_Type.QuantityType = [Forms]![Product]![Qty_Type];
This Query works and if I simply run the query I get the needed information from it.What I would like to do with this query is to populate the ProductDesign combobox with this data.I have tried putting the query in the RowSource field but I get an empty combobox without the data. The strange this is that the combobox must be getting something from the query because the length of the combo box varies based on my QuantityType selection. I.E. if I select "Single" in the QuantityType, the ProductDesign dropdown shows three empty places for data whereas if I select "Multiple" in the QuantityType I see that there is ten empty places for data.getting the combo box to actually show each option?
I am having issues with my combo box populating values based on the selection from another combo box.
Database : contains 2 tables: Staff_List, Level_Type and a form called frm_Test The first combobox cboLevel gets its value from the Level_Type table with the select statement SELECT [Level_Type].[ID], [Level_Type].[Level_Type] FROM level_Type;
The values to be displayed on the second combobox cbo_Name is expected to be dependent on the Level selection made from the first combobox i.e if Level 1 is selected in cboLevel then only Names of people in Level 1 will be displayed in second combobox.
The select statement I put there is SELECT Staff_List.ID, Staff_List.Staff_Name FROM Staff_List WHERE ((([Staff_List]![Level])=[Forms]![frm_test]![cboLevel])); This is not displaying anything in the second combobox after I tried it in the Form view, just empty.
I have a form where the user will choose a contact name or names from a multivalue combobox and I want the email address field to update with the corresponding emails separated by "; ".
I'm creating a search form to filter out data based on certain inputs. My VBA code looks like:
Code: Private Sub Command18_Click() On Error GoTo errorcatch Me.Filter = "([Experiments.Log] Like ""*" & Me.Text21 & "*"") AND ([Expdate] Like ""*" & Me.Text22 & "*"") AND ([BaseSolution] Like ""*" & Me.Text24 & "*"") AND([AddCom] Like ""*" & Me.Text25 & "*"") AND ([Test] Like ""*" & Me.Text26 & "*"") AND ([Plan] Like ""*" & Me.Text23 & "*"")"
Me.FilterOn = True Exit Sub errorcatch: MsgBox "Error #: " & Err.Number & vbCrLf & vbCrLf & Err.Description End Sub
However, the output does not include records where other fields are blank. I have read that I may need to use Is Null but am not sure how to.
1. User need to look up item name, while in a subform. He pressed F5 2. A form showed up, with a ComboBox (which got its values from a query) 3. User chose an item name in the ComboBox, and then pressed the Close button 4. The item name got copied into the subform.
Problem is, for some items/records, step 4 doesn't happen :eek: When I investigated, turned out that for some records, the ComboBox returned null (instead of the selected record)
I have used the code below to send an email automatically when a new record has been created. However I recently added the If Then statement to the code as you can see. The problem is that the email wont send because it says "There must be at least one name or distribution list in the To Cc or Bcc box". It is most likely saying this because it doesn't recognize "IT" in the txtDeparment combobox. How can I get it to recognize IT in the department combobox? The reason I am using an If Then is because I will make it send to different email addresses depending on what is in txtDepartment by using ElseIf
Dim appOutLook As Outlook.Application Dim MailOutLook As Outlook.MailItem Set appOutLook = CreateObject("Outlook.Application") Set MailOutLook = appOutLook.CreateItem(olMailItem) With MailOutLook .BodyFormat = olFormatRichText If Me.txtDepartment = "IT" Then .To = "my email" End If .Subject = "hi" .HTMLBody = "hi" .send End With
I have a form in which I have a combobox. The code in the row source is:
Code: SELECT [tblBooks].AuthorFirst & " " & [tblBooks].AuthorLast AS Expr1 FROM tblBooks GROUP BY tblBooks.AuthorLast, tblBooks.AuthorFirst HAVING (((tblBooks.AuthorFirst & " " & tblBooks.AuthorLast)<>"") And ((Count(*))>1)) ORDER BY tblBooks.AuthorLast, tblBooks.AuthorFirst;
This is an unbound box.
The rest of the form contains bound textboxes and other bound comboboxes.
This form is processed by the following VBA code:
Code: Private Sub cmdAddBook_Click() 'Place the authors first and last name in an array splitAuthor = Split(cboAuthor.Value, " ") 'Create a new record with the form information DoCmd.GoToRecord , , acNewRec
[Code] ....
What happens is that it places all the records (Except those in the array) in a field and overwrites the values in that field.
I have used the same GoToRecord statement on other databases and it works just fine. I suspect that it is due to the unbound combobox.
What I need to find a way to place all the data in the corresponding fields of a new record including separating the author's first and last name when retrieved from the combobox. I just need to figure out how to get the data in the table somehow.
