Auto Fill Location Details On Form?

Sep 14, 2006

I have stumbled through making a few new forms and tables for my new job, and have done alright so far (even if it takes me forever to do so), but there is one thing that keeps tripping me up. I just cannot figure out how to do it, even by looking at the designs and properties of other tables/forms.

Part of my form requires me to input location details. A table is setup with every City, State and Zipcode for usage on the form. Our old form was designed to auto-fill (is that even the right term?) the City and State fields upon entry of a Zipcode. These are all coming off the same table, and it works on our old form, but I cannot seem to replicate it on the new one.

I have 2 other issues with the form, and they are also both related to this auto-fill/auto-lookup hangup. Another table is set up with employee IDs, and their corresponding Last name, First name and Middle Initial. I'd like to be able to type in the ID and have the next field automatically enter the corresponding name. Similarly, I need to enter certain other data, and I would like the next field to fill in a short description of said data.

Can anyone help me or point me in the right direction? Like I said, I've pretty much made everything else work by learning from the designs of other tables/queries/forms we have, and by trial and error. But this final hitch seems insurmountable.

Automatically Fill Fields

Nov 7, 2007

hello all, any help greatly appreciated.....

I have two tables in the same Access 2003 database.

Table1 is called "Clients" and has address type fields, e.g. street_name, postcode, etc. It also has a field called CYPAN_area.

Table 2 is called CYPAN_Postcodes and has two fields; postcodes and the CYPAN area that postcode belongs to.

I want to create a function so that when someone enters the postcode in table1, the database searches Table2 and identifies which CYPAN area that postcode belongs to and automatically populates the "CYPAN_area" field in Table 1.

any tips greatly appreciated

Harry

PS I'm only a novice so I don't know anything about VBA etc, but I understand excel type formula

Automatically Fill Fields

Nov 21, 2005

I'm kinda new at ACCESS, and I've accepted an assignment that is giving me some trouble. For beginners, I could use some help as follows:
I am constructing a data entry form that is keyed on PID (Personal ID). I would like to be able to have certain fields in my form (Name, Title, Department, etc.) fill in automatically from information already stored in a different table, also containing the PID (which I can set as key). I would like this action to occur either when the PID field has reached 3 characters or when the PID field has LostFocus.

Thanks for any help in advance.

New User - Automatically Fill Fields

Dec 16, 2005

I am new to Access, but have an urgent need. I want to have certain fields (Yes/No type) to be selected based on a certain field (also a Yes/No) being selected.

It's very straight forward. Select West Coast, and the states CA, OR, and WA are selected. De-Select West Coast and the states CA, OR and WA are deselected.

Any thoughts? thanks in advance.

Automatically Fill Fields With Related Data

Nov 30, 2005

Hi!
I have a table with several fields. I would like to have a lookup in one field (combo list - get data from another table field) and for 2 other related field have the coressponding data appear automatically according to the selection in the lookup field.

eg.
Table1
|Field1...................|Field2...............|F ield3...............|
|LookupField1Table2 |AutoField2Table2|AutoField3Table2|

Table2
Field1...|Field2... |Field3...|
Data1...|Data2...|Data3...|

I am not quite sure if my question is clear... I had trouble in describing it in my post...

Is It Possible To Automatically Fill In Fields With Previous Entries?

Jun 15, 2007

Let's say in one table (called Employees) I have two columns, Name (the Primary Key) and Job (Both are text fields). One row contains "Jack" and "Gardener" in each column respectively. If I were to have a form for a different table where I select Jack's name from a drop down menu of all the "Names" in "Employees" and it then automatically fill in the next field with his Job (which would be "Gardener").

I really hope I'm making sense... Is this possible?

Modules & VBA :: Automatically Fill In The Fields Using Combo Box

Jun 10, 2013

I have a form (Project Form) with (Project_ID,Applicant_ID,Project_description, etc). To make it easier for the user who may not know the Applicant _ID when he/she is adding a new project for the applicant, I want to put a combo box with the Applicant Names in it, and once the Applicant Name is chosen, the Applicant ID will be filled out automatically and be saved in the Project Table.

My Approach so far was adding a combo box with two columns(Applicant ID, Applicant Name), and basically adding the following code:

Private Sub Combo36_AfterUpdate()
Me.Applicant_ID = Me.Combo36.Column(0)
End Sub

This approach works well, when I select an applicant, the Applicant ID will pop up correctly. However, This ID is not being saved in the Project Table.

Forms :: Adding Fields In A Table And Having Output Fill Fields On A Form

Jan 29, 2014

I have a totalquery that runs fine and give me the sum for both fields I'm looking for but I can't get the outputs to fill the fields on the form. I have tried the Dcount query in the control source but that just returns an error and locks up access.

Code:
SELECT [Tble-wcDelays].Causedby, Sum([Tble-wcDelays].HoursDelay) AS SumOfHoursDelay
FROM [Tble-wcDelays]
GROUP BY [Tble-wcDelays].Causedby, [Tble-wcDelays].LinkingID
HAVING ((([Tble-wcDelays].LinkingID)=[Forms]![Frm-ePlusCent]![cleanID]));

That is the query.

Field To Automatically Fill With Correct Value Based On Information In Multiple Fields

Apr 16, 2012

I have a database in which we are trying to have a field "Headcount" automatically fill with the correct value based on information in multiple fields. The "Headcount" field will be based on about 6 or 7 rules. Most of the rules i can figure out, but im having trouble figuring out what the best way would be to search for a single individual's projects when they are on more than one project at a time. I thought about using a counter of sorts to count how many projects someone was one, but how do I pick them out of the entire table once i have found out the number of projects? Would a for loop work best or just many if statements?

Automatically Fill Field In A Form

Feb 3, 2007

I have inherited a database where the structure is that everyone has a People ID which is unique and is stored in a central table. However to create a person you create their People ID in the People table (the ID is generated by autonumber) and to make the rest of the database work you have to manually type the People ID into a separate field in the form to allow you to do anything further. How can I automatically add this new number to the people ID list?

Hope this makes sense

Forms :: Fields Won't Display In Form View

Dec 3, 2013

I have created a database to track our contacts for the office. I spent some time working on the relationships and making sure everything was normalized, as I've only just recently understood that concept. However, I'm afraid something got messed up in the process and I may have missed a step or done something wrong when creating the relationships.

Basically, I just created the form with all of my fields in it and when I try to view the form I see that no fields display (it's just a blank white screen). I wondered if I should actually be creating the form based off tblcontact, and then add subforms for each of the other tables.

See my attached database for further reference ...

Update Contact Details Automatically

Nov 20, 2007

Dear all, please excuse the fact that this is not an explicit problem I have, but more of a general query.

I have an Access database (2003) with a load of contact details in it. Including various fields for each contact, such as their email, services they offer, where they are, main contact name etc.

Some of these contact details will be out of date and I want to make sure that all the contact details are up-to-date.

I am in the process of setting up a mail merge with a Word document which will output to Word their relevant details, and this can then be e-mailed to each of the contacts with them to update and e-mail back again. Someone would then manually update each of the contact details.

This is quite a time intensive way of doing it, and I wondered is there a way of automating the process? I don't have the time to put the whole of their details on a website so they can update it over the web, but is there a way that access could possibly read the return Word document to automate updating their details? Or is there another easier way of doing it, without using word and using something else such as Excel or something.

If anyone has any experience in doing this kind of thing I would be really glad of some tips.

Many thanks

Input Fields To Change Record Details On A Form?

Aug 17, 2005

I have a query with the fields employee_name, shiftname, shiftdate and have set it up so that 2 input messages boxes popup allowing the user to input a shiftname (a,b,c) then a shiftdate. from this query i have created a form, but instead of having 2 message boxes popup on screen before the form is loaded is it possible to have 2 input fields on the form (one for shift date & one for shiftname) that allows the user to enter into these fileds whenever they wish provided the form is open and all the records bellow change matching the employee name with the corresponding shiftname & date?, any advice would be great.

Blank Form In Form View But Fields Present In Design View

Oct 19, 2005

After reading many of the posts here, I decided that one of the problems with the tables in the db I was working on was in the primary keys. I had used the same field name as the primary key in all of my tables. This was RecipID, which was a user entered textbox with an example in a label beside it showing the format to use.

After reading stuff here, I decided this wasn't a good idea. So I changed RecipId to be an autonumber in the parent table (Household_Info) and a long integer foreign key in the children. Also, I added some fields to the parent table to identify the head of household (lastname, firstname)

I already had a continuous form made with a subform and a pop-up form associated with it based on my previous tables. Reran the query underlying the form, and the new fields showed up in the field list box for the form. The fields are all still present in design view, but I get a totally blank form in form view. I checked the forms recordsource and made sure that it was set to the new query.

Can anyone give me an idea about what I'm overlooking? Do I have to recreate the form?

(Sorry if this is a repeat of a question someone has already addressed, but I couldn't turn up any relevant threads after several hours of searching.)

Thanks, Charlotte

Forms :: Auto Fill Fields From Associated Tables

Sep 24, 2013

I have a data entry form feeding a table named [Group Members] using Access 2010.

It has 4 fields; [Group ID] & [Group Name] derived from tbl.[Groups] and [Member ID] & [Member Name] derived from tbl.[Mail List]. The 'ID' fields are foreign keys from the respective tables.

The 2 'Name' fields have drop down lists for input selection, but my requirement is to cause auto fill of the 'ID' fields when the respective 'Names' are selected.

I had assumed that this simple requirement could be achieved with a suitable control on the form property sheet. It is so simple to do in Excel!!
