i've change the database log file from E drive to Drive due to insufficient space.without attaching the log file i've shutdown the sytem. becz it's gone in hand mode.post resuming its showing recovery pending.i'm unable to get online db.
I have a SQL cluster which ran out of disk the other day. I threw plenty more disk at the SAN. However, 1 of the databases came back with Recovery Pending and has been over 24 hours. I have tried to backup the database with no success. I don't have a clean backup from the day it occured so would have a good amount of work missing.
Running a dbcc check returns the following:
Msg 945, Level 14, State 2, Line 1
Database 'sqldb' cannot be opened due to inaccessible files or insufficient memory or disk space. See the SQL Server errorlog for details.
I have not tried a dbcc check with REPAIR_ALLOW_DATA_LOSS as there seems to be a high risk of losing whatever was going on. how I can get the db back online?
I have a DB shown as recovery pending when running the following:
SELECT Name, state_desc FROM sys.databases;
The DB was created by someone outside of our team using the Full Recovery model & I can see that no transaction log backups have been taken for this, causing the log to growth to a large size.
The MDF is only 5,120kb but the TRN has grown to 10,773,120kb
When I checked the Server I could see the data area had run out of space so I have freed up some space for this so now have 2.5gb available as a short term solution.
The MDF & LDF files are still visible & when checking the SQL log the DB is being reported as having a Full Transaction Log.
Essentially I want to change the Recovery Model from Full to Simple, Reduce the size of the transaction log & bring the DB back online. Luckily this DB is only used by a handful of users but I still need to get it up & running asap.
I'm trying to move a log file of a database that is part of an availability group. I have been following steps from the article: [URL]
At first this worked fine for me in a test environment. When I tried it in a production environment the database on the secondary went into "Recovery Pending" state and I can't get it out.
I checked to ensure that the dB is looking in the right place for the log file, and it is. It just doesn't seem to actually use the new file. If I start and stop SQL service, the dB comes back up and is fine.
Here are the steps I'm going through and what is happening at each step:
-------------------------------------- :Connect DEVSQL --This is currently PRIMARY USE[master] GO ALTER AVAILABILITY GROUP [DP-AG-DEV] MODIFY REPLICA ON N'DEVSQL' WITH (SECONDARY_ROLE(ALLOW_CONNECTIONS = NO))
[Code] ....
All is good so far. Both the Primary and the Secondard have had their logical files changed, which has not taken affect yet because there has been no failover.
--Make SQL10 the PRIMARY :Connect SQL10 ALTER AVAILABILITY GROUP [DP-AG-DEV] FAILOVER; GO
SQL10 is now the Primary for this AG. And, as expected, the database [AG-Test] is in "Recovery Pending" because it is now looking for the log file in the new location. I need to move the file to the new location.
:Connect DEVSQL --Enable XP_CMDSHELL sp_configure 'show advanced options',1 go reconfigure go sp_configure 'xp_cmdshell',1
[code].....
This is where the script is failing, returning the error:
Msg 1468, Level 16, State 5, Line 5
The operation cannot be performed on database "AG-Test" because it is involved in a database mirroring session or an availability group. Some operations are not allowed on a database that is participating in a database mirroring session or in an availability group.
Msg 5069, Level 16, State 1, Line 5
ALTER DATABASE statement failed.
I can not get the dB to recognize the log file at it's new location.
If I restart the SQL Service, it comes back fine, which seems to indicate to me that it is not a permission problem and confirms that the file is in the right place.
How do I force SQL to look for the log file again without restarting the service?
We have SQL cluster installed on top of windows cluster on VM environment. Node1 and Node2 under Windows Failover Cluster. SQL instance is currently on node2 the instance is up and running, but SQL Cluster service remains online pending and it restarts the instance on every 5 minutes.
SQL Browser service are running successfully.TCP/IP ports are enabled and configured. If we start the SQL server agent it is on for seconds and stopped immediately  .Cluster Service is attempt to connect to the SQL service every few minutes (setting in SQL cluster resource) for the IsAlive check, if this fails then the SQL resource is restarted even if the instance was online. Hope this is what happening exactly.

how to restore database backups with different recovery fork. I have 1-full backup 2-diff backups and 10-tran backups. My prod database in mirror, so after error, switched to mirror with "allow_data_loss" option. And now I have full and diff backup with one recovery fork GUID and other backups with another GUID.So the question is, how to restore all this backups if in middle of restoration will be different recovery fork.Tryed to restore log backups with new fork guid and got error:This backup set cannot be applied because it is on a recovery path that is inconsistent with the database. The recovery path is the sequence of data and log backups that have brought the database to a particular recovery point. Find a compatible backup to restore, or restore the rest of the database to match a recovery point within this backup set, which will restore the database to a different point in time.
My understanding is that the log file is not supposed to grow if the database is under simple recovery mode.I am in a situation where the log grows if do any inserts that involve millions of rows. How do i make sure that it does not grow?
Pages on a full recovery model database corrupted, need to ensure data loss is minimal for restore operation am thinking about restoring the latest full backup.
We have an issue with a 3 node SQL 2012 Always on availability group. Normal operation is node 1 (primary replica) with node 2 and node 3 as secondary replicas. After some patching, SQL wasn't running on node 1 hence the AG flipped over to node 2. This went unnoticed for some time and the transaction log for one of the AG databases became full on node 2 and node 3. (I think this is because it couldn't commit the transactions on node 1 so couldn't truncate it's t-log?) The DB is using synchronous replication btw.So I started SQL on node 1 and flipped the AG back to node 1 (with a data loss warning but I accepted this). Now the issue is that on node 2 and 3, the DB in question is stuck in a "Reverting / In Recovery" State. I've tried various commands such as ALTER DATABASE SET ONLINE, RESTORE DATABASE WITH RECOVERY etc but these fail stating unable to obtain a lock on the DB.
The weird thing is that on node 1 the state of the DB is "synchronised".how to resolve this issue on node 2 and 3? I've left them overnight (in case they were rolling back transactions, the DB is fairly large) but nothing seems to have happened. remove the DB from the AG in node 2 and 3 and add it back in again, ie recreate the replication?
Last week I backed up my SQL Server by using BE 2012. I named the file "SQL Server BAK" which contained copies of my SQL Server databases. A few days ago I lost some part of my data due to accidental deletion. I backed it up, so I tried to restore the database from the .bkf file. The problem comes here, when I try to to restore my .bkf file, it becomes inaccessible.what causes this?
I have just finished configuring my first test mirrored environment (High safety mode). I setup the database engine service accounts on each of the servers with domainuser. I inherited a production mirrored environment set up by someone else. On the production servers the database engine service account is NT Authorityuser a local account. I am trying to practice installing Windows updates within a mirrored environment and I not sure how to proceed when the service account is NT Authority user account. should I change the service account to a domainuser?
I have MS-Access as data source for one of the reports. I can preview the report fine from BI studio however, it does not work when I deploy it on report server.
The error is :
An error has occurred during report processing. Cannot create a connection to data source '<data source name>'.
The Microsoft Jet database engine cannot open the file '<UNC location of the MS-Access database>'. It is already opened exclusively by another user, or you need permission to view its data.
MS-Access database is located on a different server.
Any help to solve this? I understand it has something to do with permission both on server where reporting service is running as well as the server where MS-access database is located. Pls help.
I am trying to modify the files path (primary file, log file) of databases, but it looks like I am not able to mofidy their files path directly from the database property dialogue? Would please any experts here give me some ideas on what else can I try to figure it out? Thanks a lot in advance and I am looking forward to hearing from you shortly.
I am using SQL 2000 and have a major issue! I am new to SQL and not sure what to do about the license key being lost due to an update.
Background: The server was originally loaded with a temp verison of SQL 2000 by the installer of the hardware until the Enterprise Edition arrived on site to insure that all the hardware worked fine. The Enterprise software was loaded onto the system and the license keys were installed. Everything has been working fine for several months. The server has been rebooted a few times after installing the license keys.
Trouble: I loaded SP2 for Server 2003 and rebooted the server and now SQL thinks it is running the temp version and states that the license key has expired. I tried the suggested solution listed on the site of "upgrading with no changes" and the installation completes but never asks for my license keys. I rebooted the server and it states the samething thing that the temp has expired. It appears that one section can see the keys and another section does not. I have an active database that I do not want to loose but I am stumped on what to do to in order to re-install the license keys.
Any suggestions? Can copy the databases that I have created, uninstall SQL, re-install SQL from CD and then paste back my database? Will the databases restore correctly or is this to simple of a solution?
I have run out of ideas and options in order not to loose the database.
Running SQL version 7 on "Terminal" Server I have a database marked in Load Receovery and we are unable to get to it. We tried MS SQL document on how to but we are still unable to recover it!
hai! i have a database which crashed recently(26th sep 2007).my last backup is on 14 sep 2007.i have restored database after two days. Now i have a database (old) with data upto 14sep 2007 and from 26sep to till date.(data from 14sep to 26sep missing).I restored database on 28th with a new database name which has data upto 26th sep 2007.how to attach these two databases to a single database to have data from beginning to tilldate.
Hi, I made an UPDATE query without specifying any criteria so I had more than 1500 records have been changed and I cannot undo the UPDATE. Is there any way I can recover the data UPDATE from the Transactions Log. I did not back up the database lately so what is the appropriate solutions for this?
Is there a way to Revover a Sql Server 2000 database in the absence of the backup file(the backup file got overwritten). Does Sql Server do any automatic Transaction logging?
SQL Server 2005 Database, So I want to know about Database Backup and Pointing Recovery concepts..so can u please help me and any send me related documents...

Hi,I'm no where close to a SQL Server expert but we're using it as a back endto another application.I lost a PC that had MS SQL Server 2000. I was able to recover the .MDF and..LDF files but nothing else. How can I restore these files to another SQLServer installation on another PC. When I tried to attach them they are notrecognized as valid files (I get the red X instead of the green CHECK).Is this a basic security function that I'm not going to get around or shouldit be possible? Do the .mdf and .ldf files contain specific info about whatPC they were created on?Are there third party apps that might be able to at least extract thetables? Thanks,WH
Is there a way to check the status of a database in recovery. Like how far along it may be. If not is there a way to stop a database in recovery and just drop it.
Our server ran out of disk space during a stored procedure process. We were able to free up some space, stopped all SQL services, restarted all SQL services and now SQL Management Studio shows the database to be in recovery. Is there a way to monitor this to ensure progress is being made and to estimate when it might complete?
What does it actually mean when the database is in recovery? My database has been in recovery overnight. What is normally going on in this situation. Should I wait or take more drastic action?
I had to change the path of .mdf and .ldf files, so I decided to:
1) Take offline the database
2) run the quey ALTER DATABASE... MODIFY to change the path
3) Bring online the database.
The last step hung up (with no errors) and left the database In Recovery.
When I tried to stop and restart sql server other databases changed their status In Recovery...

Could it be dangerous trying to kill this process ? If not, what is the best way do to it ? From Sql Server Activity Monitor (spid 24) or from Task Manager ?
