Installation And Licencing About MSSQL 2005 Standard Edition And Clustering Mode

Feb 8, 2007

Hi,

I have a question about using MSSQL server 2005 standard edition in Clustering mode.
I would like to build a msql cluster with only 2 servers (2 nodes).

I read here -> http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=818234dc-a17b-4f09-b282-c6830fead499&DisplayLang=en
page 5 that you can use MSSQL server 2005 standard edition in Clustering mode with 2 nodes.

But my question is :
Can I use windows 2003 standard edition (Clustering mode managed ????) or I only can use windows 2003 enterprise edition ?

Hi There

I installed Sql Server 2005 and SSIS to the C: drive of a server.

However i am going to install 3 more instances on this server and i want to install SSIS on the RAID drive.

So i uninstalled SSIS, then i installed another Sql Server instance on the D drive.

Now when i try to install SSIS, when i go to advanced and browse for installation path it is greyed out and it says that the path has already been bound to the 90DTS folder of the first instance i installed on the C: drive, so basically i dont know how i can install SSIS to another drive ???

Please help.

How Do I Change The Default Collation String Of An Installation

Mar 22, 2006

HiWhen we installed SqlServer2000 we left the default collation name(Sql_Latin1_General_CPI_CI_AS).The user defined databases we created afterwards were defined with adifferent collation name in order to be able to accept the character setwe use, Hebrew. We are looking into switching DTSs that we use to copy data from ourmain system , that uses an Ingres database, into OSQL scripts. Althoughthe DTSs successfully copy the Hebrew letters when I copy data with OSQLit comes over as jibberish. After looking into the matter I came to the conclusion that while DTSrefers to specific databases and uses the destination database'scollation name , OSQL refers to the remote server and destination serverand therefore uses the collation name of the server and not of thedatabase. In order for it to successfully copy the Hebrew I need tochange the default collation name of the installation. Is "rebuild master" the way to do such a thing ? (this is a productionserver so we are wary of doing a "rebuild master")Has anyone else run into similar problems when transfering data betweenservers using OSQL ?ThanksDavid Greenberg

Codepage Conversion

Mar 20, 2003

I'm in the process of upgrading some databases from SQL 7.0 to SQL 2000. The SQL7.0 server was installed using codepage 850 (multilingual), Sortorder CI AS.

I now copied the datafiles to the new SQL2K server and attached them. The database properties now show codepage SQL_Latin1_CP850_CI_AS which seem right to me. Unfortunately most special characters show wrongly in our application. In EM or QA everything looks fine. I tried to change settings in the client network utility but without success. Any ideas what is wrong?

Transformation's CodePage Problem

May 7, 2006

Hello all,

I'm having a problem creating a very simple transformation.

source:
sql 2000
table: FE_Login_Attempts
field FLA_UserName defined as varchar(50)
collation: SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CI_AS

destination:

table: Inc_Fact_CasAp_Transactions
field FLA_UserName defined as varchar(50)
collation: SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CI_AS

for some reason, I'm having a problem transfering certain records, even though the collation on the dbs are the same, and I'm using the 1252 codepage for the FLA_UserName field.
the complete error messege i'm getting is:

SqlBulkCopy CodePage Translation Vs BCP

Apr 24, 2007

I have deveoped a replacement for some an old bcp based applications in the .Net Framework that uses the SqlBulkCopy class.

I have run into some difficulties with code page translation:

The original BCP client runs with OEM Codepage 437 , thus the data "ëÄÆòÖ" gets loaded as "d-¦=+". DB is SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CI_AS, column is varchar.

I have been unable to perform any code page Encoding in .Net that yields the same result.

I want to emulate this behaviour in my database loader but as yet have been able to find a way....

Any Ideas???

Creating Index In MSSQL 2000 From MSSQL 2005

Mar 24, 2008

Hi,

I am a bit new to the MSSQL server. In our application, we use so many SQL queries. To imporve the performance, we used the Database enigine Tuning tool to create the indexes. The older version of the application supports MSSQL 2000 also. To re-create these new indexes, I have an issue in running these "CREATE INDEX" commands as the statements generated for index creation are done in MSSQL 2005. The statements include "INCLUDES" keyword which is supported in MSSQL 2005 but not in MSSQL 2000.

Ex:-

CREATE INDEX IND_001_PPM_PA ON PPM_PROCESS_ACTIVITY

(ACTIVITY_NAME ASC, PROCESS_NAME ASC, START_TIME ASC, ISMONITORED ASC)

INCLUDE

(INSTANCE_ID, ACTIVITY_TYPE, STATUS, END_TIME, ORGANIZATION);

Any help in creating such indexes in 2000 version is welcome.

Thanks,
Suresh.

Migration MSSQL 2000 32-bit To MSSQL 2005 64-bit

Nov 17, 2007

I've been tasked to move our production databases on MSSQL 2000 to 2005. I've supported MSSQL since version 6.5 and performed migrations to successor versions.

Current Environment is MSSQL 2000 32-bit with current Service Packs.

I've performed mock migrations on Test servers upgrading all Production instances simultaneously from MSSQL 2000 to 2005 32-bit. The Test environment is identical to Production minus server name, IP etc. Also I have a separate server with MSSQL 2005 installed where I use the DETACH / ATTACH and BACKUP / RESTORE method for migration / acceptance testing. There are approximately 30 databases totaling 70 GB. This has gone as expected and fairly successful. Vendors have been coordinated with to update code and staff for acceptance testing.

I'd prefer going directly to MSSQL 2005 64-bit instead if possible due to memory benefits etc. This is where I'd like some feedback prior to borrowing a 64-bit server for testing.

Upgrade options:

1. Is it better to migrate from MSSQL 2000 32-bit to 2005 64-bit via:
a. DETACH / ATTACH
b. BACKUP / RESTORE
c. Is one method more advantageous relating to the end result?
2. Regarding XP clients, have issues been experienced with the default SQL Server driver or is an alternate recommended for XP clients to connect to a MSSQL 64-bit server databases?
3. If you have performed this migration and have relevant experience please pass them along.
