Ok, I want to write a stored procedure / query that says the following: Code: If any of the items in list 'A' also appear in list 'B' --return false If none of the items in list 'A' appear in list 'B' --return true
In pseudo-SQL, I want to write a clause like this

Unfortunately, it seems I can't do that unless my subquery before the 'IN' statement returns only one value. Needless to say, it returns a number of values.
I may have to achieve this with some kind of logical loop but I don't know how to do that.
I have a select list of fields that I need to select to get the results I need, however, I would like to insert only a chosen few of these fields into a table. I am getting the error, "The select list for the INSERT statement contains more items than the insert list. The number of SELECT values must match the number of INSERT columns." How can I do this?

I have a a table that holds a list of words, I am trying to add to the list, however I only want to add new words. But I wish to return from my proc the list of words with ID, whether it is new or old.
Here's a script. the creates the table,indexes, function and the storeproc. call the proc like procStoreAndUpdateTokenList 'word1,word2,word3'
My table is now 500000 rows and growing and I am inserting on average 300 words, some new some old.
performance is a not that great so I'm thinking that my code can be improved.

I need to create a stored procedure that takes a list of product numbers(541, 456, CE6050,...) and selects only the customers that have all product numbers in the list. I have a product table that has the following schema:
So a customer can have more than one product, but I need a select statement that takes the product numbers and selects them against the product table and returns only the customerNumbers that have the entire list of product numbers. I have tried doing a join on the product list and productNumber, then join with the customer table on customerNumber, but that gets any entires found in the list not the entries that have all the product numbers. I want to build the list of values that are in parenthesis, in my VB code and pass it in through a parameter, so it's like this:
Select * from myTable where myTable_ID in (@myValues)
Is this possible? I tried it where myValues = '2,6,7,9' but am getting a conversion error. I'm starting to believe it's not possible to do what I'm trying to do. Is there another way?
Hi, I am a newbie, this is my first post (please go easy).
Iam at the moment trying to set up a query for someone looking for a property on an estate agents website.
From a drop down menu, the user can: select an area (where they may like to live) from a list of areas. select an amount of bedrooms from a list of bedrooms select a minimum price from a list of prices select a maximum price from a list of prices.

This seems to work fine and shows all the properties that meet the criteria onto my webpage.
However, I then thought, someone may not care which area they live in and want to see all properties in all the areas, so I decided to add the option 'All areas' to my 'areas' list, I then did the same for the other lists, eg 'all bedrooms' option to my bedrooms list and so on.
I am now trying to write a query that incorporates where the 'all..' option is selected and have become very stuck! Can someone set me off in the right direction for this. I hope that makes sense?!?!
I am trying to insert into a database Checkbox list items, I get good values up till the checkBox List and then it gives me all O's, My fields in my database are bit columns so I need the checkbox list itmes to be converted to this format. What is thebest way to do that? If I use two IN clauses it will do it where itmatches anything in both, not the exact combination of the two. I am struggling to come up with a set-based solution for this problem (i.e. that doesn't involve loops/cursors) ..A table contains items (identified by an ItemCode) and the set they belong to (identified by a SetId). Here is some sample data:

What I want to do is identify the sets that have the same members, by giving them the same ID in another column called UniqueSetId.
I'm having an issue creating a report that can group & sum similar items together (I know in some ways, the requirement doesn't make sense, but it's what the client wants).
I have a table of items (i.e. products). In some cases, items can be components of another item (called "Kits"). In this scenario, we consider the kit itself, the "parent item" and the components within the kit are called "child items". In our Items table, we have a field called "Parent_Item_Id". Records for Child Items contain the Item Id of the parent. So a sample of my database would be the following:
Item's 2 & 3 are child items of "Kit A", Item 5 is a child item of "Kit B" and Item 6 is just a stand alone item.
So, in my report, the client wants to see the SUM of both the kit & its components in a single line, grouped by the parent item. So an example of the report would be the following:
Name | Available Qty -------------------------- Kit A | 15 Kit B | 25 Item 4 | 100
So at the moment, I don't have a function by the name CONCATENATE. What I like to do is to list all those different values that go with a single CASE_ID to appear as a a comma separate list. You might have a better way of doing without even writing a function
I know I can do a JOIN(parameter, "some seperator") and it will build me a list/string of all the values in the multiselect parameter.
However, I want to do the same thing with all the occurances of a field in my result set (each row being an occurance).
For example say I have a form that is being printed which will pull in all the medications a patient is currently listed as having perscriptions for. I want to return all those values (say 8) and display them on a single line (or wrap onto additional lines as needed).
Something like: List of current perscriptions: Allegra, Allegra-D, Clariton, Nasalcort, Sudafed, Zantac
How can I accomplish this?
I was playing with the list box, but that only lets me repeat on a new line, I couldn't find any way to get it to repeate side by side (repeat left to right instead of top to bottom). I played with the orientation options, but that really just lets me adjust how multiple columns are displayed as best I can tell.
Could a custom function of some sort be written to take all the values and spit them out one by one into a comma seperated string?
Hi, I have set of 2 DTS packages, one of which calls the other by forming a command-line (dtexec) using a Execute Process task.
From the parent package-> Execute Process Task-> dtsexec /F etc... /<pkg variable> = "servername"
Each of the parent and the called package have a variable: "User::DWServerSQLInstance" which is mapped to the SQL server connection manager server name property using an expression. The outer package has the above variable and so does the inner called package (which gets assigned through the command line from the outerpackage call to inner)
I "sometimes" get the following error:

I have seen other posts on this but, not able to relate the solution to my scenario.
Package works fine when run from BIDS, DTExec, dtexecui. When I schedule it, It get these random errors. (See below)
The main culprit is a variable called "RecordsetFileDIR" which is set using an expression. (@[User::_ROOT] + "RecordSets\")
A number of other variables use this as part of their expression and as they all fail, pretty much everything dies.
I have installed SP1 (Not Beta) on server. Package uses config files to set the value of _ROOT.
The error does not always seem to be with this particular variable though. Always a variable that uses an expression but errors are random. Also, It will run 3 out of 10 times without a problem. I am the only person on the server at the time.
Any ideas?

I'm trying to include the COUNT(*) value of a sub-query in the results of a parent query. My SQL code is:

This comes up with an error basically saying that 'touchAppointments' isn't valid in the subquery. How can I get this statement to work and return the number of notes that relate to the relevant appointment?
I'm working on a document management system that will allow the users to tag docs. Would it better in terms of performance and general maintenance to have all the tags comma de-limited in a column of the doc record, or have each tag in a row of an associated table?

Hi , I am trying to write a report generator by simply using a form and then a gridview that query's the database based on what the user selects on the form. Anyways, I update the SQL parameters similar to below code. I just want to know how i can tell the parameter to get ALL values from the parameter instead of a specific value. For example if the user wanted to see ALL the records for CustomerName what would i set the parameter default value to? I tried the asterisk but that did not work. Please guide me....Thanks! Initially this started as a case of "doh, I should just be using one database here, not two", and I was simply wanting to copy database tables. In VS2K5 I tried as there is a right click menu option of copy when a table is selected but this doesn't work for me with any database object of any kind. So fast forward to the present...I now am attempting to deploy an app to a hosting service, 1&1.com. I am allowed only one database in my current package, which should be fine for now. So I had to combine the ASPNETDB along with 2 other databases. It took a bit of time, but I got everything done, I thought, and posted to the servers. While debugging I get an error saying a stored procedure can not be found. And it indeed is not.This really confuses me as I made the changes in VS2k5, shut down and restarted to make sure I didn't miss anything, then used SQL Server Man. Studio to make a .bak file to upload to my hosting service. It never occurred to me to verify the changes I made in VS2k5 were actually on the database when viewed there. Well, they aren't, and I have no idea why. That would be issue #1 I suppose.So after giving the background info here, what I am looking for help with is how to get the changes I am making in VS2k5 to also be present when viewed from SQL Server Man. Studio as the only means of posting a db to my hosting provider is by using a .bak file.Also, why is it a project template I download has a .mdf file I am not able to even see in SQL Server Man.
