ODBC Access Driver Error In Vista

Mar 2, 2007

I am migrating my development environment from XP Pro to Vista, and my website is now serving up the following error:

Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC Drivers error '80004005'

[Microsoft][ODBC Microsoft Access Driver] Disk or network error.

The code in question is as follows:

set dbConn = Server.CreateObject("ADODB.Connection")
szPath=Server.MapPath("../../../")
szProvider="Driver=Microsoft Access Driver (*.mdb); DBQ=" & szPath
szProvider=szProvider & "database" & szDir & "" & szDB & ".mdb;"
if bDebug then fpDebug.WriteLine("szProvider: " & szProvider)
dbConn.Open szProvider

The error happens on the last line where I try to open the connection. I've tried also using a dbConn.Provider="Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0" line, to no avail. The item that is passed to the Open command is

Driver=Microsoft Access Driver (*.mdb); DBQ=C:obstuffdatabasedemoHMGA.mdb;

I'm not familiar enough with DNS and IIS to figure this out. Any suggestions -- other than porting over to SQL and .NET? You don't buy a Ferrari when you only drive in a 30 MPH town.

How Can I Use Create Or Alter Statements With ODBC And Microsoft Access ODBC Driver (*mdb)?

May 13, 2007

Hi,

I am using VB.NET 2005 and set up an ODBC connection via ODBC.ODBCConnection to a MDB database. Therefor, I use the "Microsoft Access ODBC Driver (*.mdb)".

When I set up a ODBCCommand like "ALTER DATABASE..." or "CREATE TABLE..." and issue it with the com.ExecuteNonQuery() command, I get an error from ODBC driver, that a SQL statement has to begin with SELECT, INSERT, UPDATE or DELETE.

How can I use DDL statements via ODBC?

I would appreciate if you could help me to use ODBC for that - no OLE, no ADO.

Thanks for help!

Stefan D.

Compatible Versions Of Ms SQL Server, ODBC Driver, Driver Manager And ODBC API Spec

Oct 28, 2004

Hi,

Please help share with me if you know the version compatibility matrix of Ms SQL Server, ODBC driver (sqlsrv32.dll), Driver Manager (odbc32.dll) and ODBC API spec. For instance, how can I know Ms SQL Server 2000 can work with which version of sqlsrv32.dll, a particular version of sqlsrv32.dll can work with which version of odbc32.dll and a certain version of sqlsrv32.dll/odbc32.dll conforms to which version of ODBC API spec (e.g. 3.5).

Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks,

ODBC SQL Driver Timeout Expired From MS Access

Oct 30, 2007

Hi

I'm running a machine with windows xp pro sp2. I have a MS Access 2000 database on that machine. The database contains 1 odbc linked table
and 1 Access query.

The odbc linked table is connected to a MS SQL Server 2000 database with a ODBC SQL Server System DSN.

The table on SQL Server to which the table in Access is linked has about
3 million + rows.

When I open the ODBC linked table in Access, it opens without a problem.

However, if I use even so much as one criterion such as "where company = ABC" for example, then it "thinks" for a while and returns the dreaded:
[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Driver] Timeout Expired (#0).

I have to use MS Access 2000 as the front end for this SQL Database table.

How do I get around the timeout issue. Is there a setting in SQL?

Please keep in mind that
I can't write the queries as Store procs because the requirement of the client is that there be one Linked Access table that the users can use
to write various access queries. No user are not techies.

please help

ODBC Driver Manager Error

Jun 28, 1999

A developer installed a FoxPro application on my workstation and every time I connect to SQL Server 7 I get the following message:

The ODBC resource DLL(C:WINNTSystem32odbcint.dll) is a different version than the ODBC driver manager (C:WINNTSystem32odbc32.dll).
You need to reinstall the ODBC components to ensure proper operation.

I can still connect to the database and everything seems to work but I want to correct this problem. Could anyone tell me how to reinstall the ODBC components? I tried reinstalling SQL Server 7 on my workstation but it tells me that I have not selected any components, even though everything is selected. Do I need to uninstall SQL Server and then reinstall it?

Thanks in advance.

Error ODBC SQL Server Driver

I am experiencing the following error in a server 2003 and SQL 2005 environment.
I don't know much about SQL, and any help would be appreciated. I have been told to look at the ODBC, as well as several items in SQL. But alas I have not been able to do much with it. Software program was purchased and support for the system is extremely limited.

Here is the error:

I appreciate any help anyone has to offer.

ODBC Driver Error? 2003 Server.

Apr 29, 2005

Hi all,

Current (working) Environment within same domain:
Quote:
MS SQL (v8 sp3?) on windows 2000 sp3
web server on windows 2000 sp3

New (not working) Environment:
Quote:
MS SQL (v8 sp3?) on windows 2000 sp3
web server on windows 2003 sp3

when i try to connect to the remote sql db (the asp page code has remained unchanged), i get this error:
Quote:
Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC Drivers error '80004005'
[Microsoft][ODBC Driver Manager] Data source name not found and no default driver specified

/Default.asp, line 567
line 567 is the attempt to open the connection (again, no code changes).

The ODBC reg tree has the IUSR internet guest account permissions.

When I try to create a system DSN via the ODBC manager on the current, working system, I can see a list of the SQL boxes on the network. When I try the same on the new 2003 server...our SQL server list isn't displayed.

Any ideas on why I'm getting this error in the asp page?
{UPDATE}
Creating a system DSN on the new 2003 server works, if the "Named Pipes" network libraries are choosen in the set up. If the TCP/IP network libraries are choosen...the connection fails. Named pipes uses port(s) 445 & 139. The TCP/IP libraries use port 1433.

Why would Named pipes work and not TCP/IP?

Thanks.

P.S. I posted this in the O/S forum, but it looks like no one browsing that forum can help on this, so it was suggested I post in the DB forum.

ODBC Driver Error - Timeout Expired

Feb 18, 2005

Very common error but wired scenario. Every client machine get this error in morning. VB application works fine until evening but when everyone goes home after shut down the machine and they come back again in morning and try to run the application they get this error. Application runs fine, It can access data, pull data, view data but It can not write any data. (Other words can not enter any data).

Application again starts working fine after I copy database on different SQL server. For temporary solution I swap database from one SQL Server to other one day and back to original SQL server next day. Every morning it takes about 2 hours to copy database. I’m doing this from last few days as working solution. FYI, I have 2 different VB application, each has their own database. One working fine and other started giving me problem, the one I described above.

Few thing I want to let you know:

Recently I changed the SQL server. After I changed I started having this problem. But other application working fine. So I don’t think that could be a problem. (Both application basically same in terms of development and tools they use. VB and SQL Server, ODBC connection, Crystal Reports).

In old SQL server both database had daily backup on third party backup built on different server using Client Network Backup. After I changed the SQL server I never modify backup setting. So after I moved SQL server , every night backup was trying to connect to old SQL server and but It couldn’t take the backup cause I changed the machine. Again if that’s the problem both application should not work but one working fine other is giving me problem.

One more thing I want to mention here is I started having this problem when I left the SQL server copying database overnight. Means, I started copying database and I left the machine ON when I came in the morning copying database was done and I just click on the OK and close the window. Basically It has finished copying database in around 2 hours after I started and I close the window when I came back next morning.

That’s the few things I’m thinking about but I don’t know what kind of database setting this might have changed and how to reset again. Any help will appreciated.

Dose any one know how to combine .mdf (Primary data file) and .ndf (secondary data file) ???

[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver] Error

May 2, 2008

Hi everyone,

I am getting the below error when I try to access the table in 2005 database through 3rd party application from the application server.

“[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver]Connection is busy with results for another hstmt

This database was restored from sqlserver 2000, so the ODBC connection in the application server first was pointing to 2000 database and now its dropped and recreated to point to the 2005 database.

I dont get this error message when I do the same action from my pc.

I google'd on this error message, and I am not sure if the driver has to be upgraded or if there is anything else that I am missing here.

Thanks much.

[Microsoft][ODBC Driver Manager] Data Source Name Not Found And No Default Driver Specified

Oct 19, 2006

trying to install sql server2005 on a windows 2003 server box.

getting msg below at the sql server . i looked at other posts on trying to uninstall SQL Native Access Client and norton antivirus. i could never find the snac on the add - remove programs and this server does not have a virus protection program yet.

here's the history of the installs on the server:

wanted to test a 2005 upgrade so:

1) installed sql server 2000 then sp4 then restored some databases to it - all OK

2) tried to upgrade to sql 2005 but ran into problems and left it at that.

had a disk drive crash on the d drive so lost the installs but not the operating system

when the drive was replaced, left alone for a while

then wanted to test a straight 2005 install

1) removed the broken 2005 attempt

2) removed the 2000

3) installed 2005 and got the error on the subject line:

TITLE: Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Setup
------------------------------

SQL Server Setup could not connect to the database service for server configuration. The error was: [Microsoft][ODBC Driver Manager] Data source name not found and no default driver specified Refer to server error logs and setup logs for more information. For details on how to view setup logs, see "How to View Setup Log Files" in SQL Server Books Online.

i've gone through as many of the forums that i can and have tried several things - like uninstalling 2005 and installing pieces and parts but but nothing seems to work.

Thanks!

Sql2005 ODBC Driver Manager Data Source Name Not Found And No Default Driver Specified

i am attempting to run phpbb using ms sql 2005 on the same box but get the following error during the setup

Could not connect to the database, see error message below.
[Microsoft][ODBC Driver Manager] Data source name not found and no default driver specified

i am not sure yet if this is an issue with sql, php or phpbb

php is installed in iis and has all the modules installed which the php msi installer supported. i can run php code but in this case when i'm running the install.php file for the phphbb setup, i fill in the values for the database and got that error

phpbb detects all the required server settings and sees that i have ms sql installed

any suggestions on what that error means or how to go about configuring odbc driver?

probably a simple issue. but i'm still new with sql stuff

- "An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. Everything worked fine if I ran 10 simultaneous connections. I am using Microsoft ACT to load test the web service. The database is SQL Server 2000. Any idea about why this is happening?

ODBC SQL Server Driver TCP/IP Sockets SQL Server Does Not Exist Or Access Denied

Dec 3, 2004

I am running Windows 2003 Standard edition with IIS and SQL 2000 SP3a installed on it.

The web clients use ASP pages which use DSN to connect to SQL 2000 database. It has been working fine since last 1.5 years except 2 days ago when I faced this error suddenly on server:

In accessing any ASP page, it said:

[Microsoft][ODBC_SQL_Server_Driver][TCP/IP_Sockets_SQL_Server_does_not_exist_or_access_den ied.

On SQL Server error log, this was the entry at that time which I found:

SQLServer Error: 17, SQL Server does not exist or access denied. [SQLSTATE 08001]

The server (including SQL Server and agent service) were last stopped atleast a couple of days before, so it was not the problem about startup.

To troubleshoot, I restarted SQL Server and it worked for some time.

Then again on ASP pages, I found this error:

|80004005|[Microsoft][ODBC_SQL_Server_Driver][TCP/IP_Sockets]General_network_error._Check_your_network_document ation.

I checked the error logs of SQL server and didn't find anything.
Only entries were that the SQL is starting database, ports and IPs on which it is listening etc. The usual stuff. No errors in starting.

The SQL Agent log showed following errors:

2004-11-30 04:45:33 - ! [298] SQLServer Error: 2, ConnectionOpen (Connect()). [SQLSTATE 01000]
2004-11-30 04:45:33 - ! [382] Logon to server '(local)' failed (JobManager)
2004-11-30 04:45:36 - ! [298] SQLServer Error: 17, SQL Server does not exist or access denied. [SQLSTATE

I don't understand what was the problem. It first occured when nothing on server was changed, next it occured 30-32 hours later, and still now it hasn't happened again.

Does anyone know what can be wrong?

Thanks.

Resolution Of Following Error: IM010: [Microsoft][ODBC Driver Manager] Data Source Name Too Long

Feb 26, 2008

Hi SQL Server Team,

In order to add a data source by using ODBC Administrator, programmatically i am using SQLConfigDataSource. Thus calling SQLConfigDataSource with the fOption set to either ODBC_ADD_DSN for creating a new DSN.

Following is the stattement specified in the source code. where type_of_driver = "Microsoft Access Driver (*.mdb)"; and parameters contains the data source source credentials information such as DSN, UID, PSW, FIL, Description, DataDirectory,DEFAULTDIR and DBQ all separated by "".

rc = SQLConfigDataSource(NULL, ODBC_ADD_DSN, type_of_driver, parameters);

after execution of below mentioned command an error is encountered i.e -1 is returned if the DataDirectory path exceeds certain nested directories link. for eg. the file path specified below.

C:My DocumentsClients CurrentAHW Netcare BenefitsDeliverables1-5 Results Chain - system LevelAlberta NetcareBenefits Logic System Level V01.rcm

Creating a datasource with the file name i.e Benefits Logic System Level V01 every time.
rc = :: SQLConnect(hDbc, (unsigned char *)szSource, SQL_NTS, (unsigned char *)szUserName, SQL_NTS, (unsigned char *)szPassword, SQL_NTS);

Also following error message was encountered during execution of SQLConnect command.

Still an error is encountered but this time it returns a RETCODE of 100 whrease earlier it had returned -1.

Inform the procedure to be followed using SQLConnect when DataDirectory path is too long.

An early reply will be appreciated.

Cheers & Regards,

Saresh

Integration Services :: Unable To See 64bit ODBC Driver From SSIS Odbc Connection?

Jun 1, 2015

I am using SSIS 2014 with the below .net framework version and installed in Windows server 2012 R2 . I have installed my client's odbc drivers (both 32 bit and 64 bit) in my production server and created ODBC system DSNs for 32 bit and 64 bit.

When i open SSIS 2014 and tried to create the odbc connection but i can able to see only the 32 bit system DSN connection ,i can't able to see my 64 bit odbc system dsn connection.

Microsoft Visual Studio 2012 Shell (Integrated)
Version 11.0.50727.1 RTMREL
Microsoft .NET Framework
Version 4.5.51650

SQL Server Integration Services
Microsoft SQL Server Integration Services Designer
Version 12.0.1524.0

And i installed my client odbc drivers(32,64 bit) and created ODBC system DSNs in my local system and when i open ssis 2014 and i can able to see both the ODBC system DSNS(32,64) connections from SSIS ODBC connection.

I am using below version of .net framework in my local system which was installed in windows 7 and i have SSIS 2012 also installed in my system and i can able to see both ODBC connections using 2012 as well in my local system.

Microsoft Visual Studio 2012 Shell (Integrated)
Version 11.0.50727.1 RTMREL
Microsoft .NET Framework
Version 4.5.50938

SQL Server Integration Services
Microsoft SQL Server Integration Services Designer
Version 12.0.1524.0

why i can not see the ODBC 64 bit system DSN connection from SSIS in my production server ?
