Vista MYSQL ODBC Manager Data Source Not Found

Nov 26, 2007

I am testing an application that uses mysql that works 100% fine with Microsoft Windows XP on Windows Vista Premium Home Edition.

Using Vista's ODBC Data Source Administrator I have set up and successfuly tested the DSN Connection to the Database.

However, when I call the set up DSN with the application I get [Microsoft][ODBC Driver Manager] Data source name not found and no default driver specified.

I am using the mysql-connector-odbc-3.51.12-win32.

I have tried editing the registry DSN files - the problem still persists.

Does anybody know a way to solve this problem

Error Message Using Vista

Jun 9, 2007

Goodday

If I go to Http://localhost/reports I get this error

I have followed the tutorial but still get the error as below. If i go to http:// localhost I get the iis7 wecome page , without a problem.

Sorry I,m a bit new at this , I see in the error message that I must type something in a command line window.

Is this the black blackground box with C:windowssystem32>_ already typed in . Must I type this just after and press entre %systemroot%system32inetsrvAPPCMD.EXE migrate config "Default Web Site/Reports"

Server Error in Application "Default Web Site/Reports"

HTTP Error 500.0 - Internal Server Error

Description: This application is running in an application pool that uses the Integrated .NET mode. This is the preferred mode for running ASP.NET applications on the current and future version of IIS.

In this mode, the application should not specify ASP.NET handler mappings in the <system.web>/<httpHandlers> configuration section. Instead, it should use the <system.webServer>/<handlers> configuration section to configure ASP.NET handler mappings. You have the following options:
1) Migrate the application to work with the Integrated .NET mode (PREFERRED).You can migrate the application configuration, including the contents of the <httpHandlers> configuration section, by using the following from a command line window (the window must be running as Administrator):

%systemroot%system32inetsrvAPPCMD.EXE migrate config "Default Web Site/Reports"

After you migrate your application, it will run in both Classic and Integrated .NET modes, as well as on downlevel platforms.

ODBC Access Driver Error In Vista

Mar 2, 2007

I am migrating my development environment from XP Pro to Vista, and my website is now serving up the following error:

Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC Drivers error '80004005'

[Microsoft][ODBC Microsoft Access Driver] Disk or network error.

The code in question is as follows:

set dbConn = Server.CreateObject("ADODB.Connection")
szPath=Server.MapPath("../../../")
szProvider="Driver=Microsoft Access Driver (*.mdb); DBQ=" & szPath
szProvider=szProvider & "database" & szDir & "" & szDB & ".mdb;"
if bDebug then fpDebug.WriteLine("szProvider: " & szProvider)
dbConn.Open szProvider

The error happens on the last line where I try to open the connection. I've tried also using a dbConn.Provider="Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0" line, to no avail. The item that is passed to the Open command is

Driver=Microsoft Access Driver (*.mdb); DBQ=C:obstuffdatabasedemoHMGA.mdb;

I'm not familiar enough with DNS and IIS to figure this out. Any suggestions -- other than porting over to SQL and .NET? You don't buy a Ferrari when you only drive in a 30 MPH town.

HELP! ODBC Error Message During 7.0 Install

Sep 4, 1998

Hi Everyone,
When I try to install 7.0, I get a message that it needs to some ODBC items, but that one or more is being used by an application, and to shut down all applications and continue. The problem is, I don`t have any other applications open. My McAfee virus scan was enabled, and I disabled that and the clock in the system tray. I can`t go any further with this. Any help would truly be appreciated.

Thanks,
Terry

Bad Error Message Connecting To SSCE V3.5 From Orcas Beta 1 In SSMSX SP2 Under Vista

May 12, 2007

I'm receiving a bad error message when attempting to connect to SSCE .sdf files installed by Orcas Beta 1 (e.g., Northwind.sdf from the ...v3.5Samples folder) and created by the Orcas Beta 1 Sync Designer with SQL Management Studio Express SP2 (version 9.00.3042.00).

The message is:

TITLE: Connect to Server
------------------------------

Cannot connect to C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL Server Compact Editionv3.5SamplesNorthwind.sdf.

------------------------------
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

You are trying to access an older version of a SQL Server Compact Edition database. If this is a SQL Server CE 1.0 or 2.0 database, run upgrade.exe. If this is a SQL Server Compact Edition 3.0 or later database, run Compact / Repair. [ Db version = 3505053,Requested version = 3004180,File name = C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL Server Compact Editionv3.5SamplesNorthwind.sdf ] (SQL Server Compact Edition ADO.NET Data Provider)

------------------------------

Obviously 3505053 is a newer than SSCE 3004180, not earlier. I don't understand why SSMSX SP2 would request a specific version and refuse to open the latest version.

I don't recall having this problem with SSMSX SP2 and VS Orcas March CTP under Windows Server 2003 (March CTP wasn't certified for Vista).

VS Orcas Beta 1's Server Explorer can open the .sdf files and display their content but won't execute DDL commands against them.

There also is what I believe to be a related problem with the Sync Designer failing to add LastEdited and CreatedDate fields to the .sdf files (see Sync Designer/SSCE Version Problems with Orcas Beta 1 in the Sync Services forum.

Backup Fails With Error Message SQL-DMO (ODBC SQLState:42000) - Need Help !!!

Nov 15, 2007

Hi,

This is my first posting and actually I have big problem which I need to resolve immediately:

I have a 38 GB Database on my SQL Server which I want to full-backup. Until now backup was created on the same volume where the database resides. But now the volume is out of disk space. So what we did is that we connected an external USB disk drive with 500 GB to the SQL Server and try to backup there.

But our first and all consecutive backup attemps failed with error SQL-DMO (ODBC SQLState: 42000). It's working fine the first few minutes as we can see that the backup file is continously growing. But then it abruptly aborts with above error message.

Can anyone figure out why ? Any help is appreciated.

Thx

ODBC Data Source Error

Apr 20, 2006

As other contributors, all I am trying to do is import data from an ODBC source (spelled 'non-Microsoft data source') into a SQL 2005 table. I can easily do this in SQL 2000 with DTS, but when I use the same DSN in VS 2005 it doesn't work.

I created an integration project, and made a connection in Connection Manager to the DSN and clicked Test Connection. It succeeded, or so it claimed.

Click OK and drag a DataReader Source onto the Data Flow surface Doubleclick it and select the connection manager per above. Note the error: Error at Data Flow Task [DataReader Source[50]]: Cannot acquire a managed connection from the run-time connection manager.

What does that mean? More to the point, how to fix it?

Data Source / ODBC Error

Dec 31, 2005

Hi all,

My replication of those SQL 2000 servers gave errors: Data source (11): General Network Error. Check your network documentation... and ODBC (08S01): Communication link failure. The replication was across the WAN. I don't know where to start to troubleshoot this problem. Please help!

Thanks in advance.

SSIS Datareader ODBC Source Error

Feb 24, 2006

I am trying to import data from an ODBC source using the Datareader but have come accross a problem, can anyone help?

Whenever I try to do a 'SELECT * FROM sometable' I get the following error:

Error at Data Flow Task [DTS.Pipeline]: The output column "notes" (521) has a length that is not valid. The length must be betewwn 0 and 4000

Most of the tables we require have this field.

Is there any way to by pass this error and import the field as DT_WSTR type and convert to DT_NTEXT?

Our original DTS package (2000) worked well but we would like to move forward.

Thanks in advance.

Resolution Of Following Error: IM010: [Microsoft][ODBC Driver Manager] Data Source Name Too Long

Feb 26, 2008

Hi SQL Server Team,

In order to add a data source by using ODBC Administrator, programmatically i am using SQLConfigDataSource. Thus calling SQLConfigDataSource with the fOption set to either ODBC_ADD_DSN for creating a new DSN.

Following is the stattement specified in the source code. where type_of_driver = "Microsoft Access Driver (*.mdb)"; and parameters contains the data source source credentials information such as DSN, UID, PSW, FIL, Description, DataDirectory,DEFAULTDIR and DBQ all separated by "".

rc = SQLConfigDataSource(NULL, ODBC_ADD_DSN, type_of_driver, parameters);

after execution of below mentioned command an error is encountered i.e -1 is returned if the DataDirectory path exceeds certain nested directories link. for eg. the file path specified below.

C:My DocumentsClients CurrentAHW Netcare BenefitsDeliverables1-5 Results Chain - system LevelAlberta NetcareBenefits Logic System Level V01.rcm

Creating a datasource with the file name i.e Benefits Logic System Level V01 every time.
rc = :: SQLConnect(hDbc, (unsigned char *)szSource, SQL_NTS, (unsigned char *)szUserName, SQL_NTS, (unsigned char *)szPassword, SQL_NTS);

Also following error message was encountered during execution of SQLConnect command.

/*szErrorMsg = 0x0012e834 "[Microsoft][ODBC Microsoft Access Driver]General error Not enough information to connect to this DSN with SQLConnect. Use SQLDriverConnect."*/

Thus followed the instruction smentioned in the error message an dtried using SQL DriverConnect() in the following manner.
rc = :: SQLDriverConnect(hDbc, NULL,(SQLCHAR *)"DSN=RCM",SQL_NTS,outstr, sizeof(outstr),
&outstrlen,SQL_DRIVER_NOPROMPT);

Still an error is encountered but this time it returns a RETCODE of 100 whrease earlier it had returned -1.

Inform the procedure to be followed using SQLConnect when DataDirectory path is too long.

An early reply will be appreciated.

Cheers & Regards,

Saresh

MS OLE DB For ODBC With Oracle ODBC Source Headaches

Dec 25, 2005

Hi all,I am having trouble getting linked Oracle 9 server in MS SQL Server2005 Express to work properly. My machine is running Windows XP.The Microsoft and Oracle OLE DB Providers have problems dealing withOracle's Numeric Data Type, so I decided to use Microsoft's OLE DB forODBC Provider and an Oracle ODBC source. When using the Microsoft ODBCfor Oracle Driver in my ODBC source I have inconsistent behavior.Sometimes my queries are processed properly, then other times I get thefollowing errorOLE DB provider "MSDASQL" for linked server "ODBCBEAST" returnedmessage "[Microsoft][ODBC Driver Manager] Driver's SQLSetConnectAttrfailed".OLE DB provider "MSDASQL" for linked server "ODBCBEAST" returnedmessage "[Microsoft][ODBC Driver Manager] Driver's SQLSetConnectAttrfailed".OLE DB provider "MSDASQL" for linked server "ODBCBEAST" returnedmessage "[Microsoft][ODBC driver for Oracle][Oracle]".Msg 7303, Level 16, State 1, Line 1Cannot initialize the data source object of OLE DB provider "MSDASQL"for linked server "ODBCBEAST".I have no idea why sometimes I can connect to the linked server with noproblems andwhy other times it performs like this. I'm not changing anything aboutthe system I can think of. When I use an Oracle client (PL/SQL) I haveabsolutely no problems connecting. TNSPING returns that the connectionis good.This is unacceptable so I decided to try my luck with the Oracle 10gODBC driver. However when I use this and perform an openquery selectagainst the linked server I get back only 11 rows, when I know that thedatabase has over 100 rows (in fact when using the Microsoft ODBCdriver and it works that's what I get). I figured maybe the buffersetting needed to be raised in the ODBC configuration so I took it from64000 to 600000 (a magnitude of 10) but I still get back only 11 rows.I'm at my wit's end.Any suggestions on resolving one or the other problem would be muchappreciated.Thanks much

Vista (Business) Odd Issue With ODBC

Jun 13, 2007

We are still using SQL2k. I've installed the clients stuff for SQL. One thing I noted is that it was all but impossible to setup an ODBC connection because the driver does not appear in the list.

Every other driver shows up and works fine but not the SQL Server driver. A week or two ago I somehow found it and was able to create a system DSN. Now, I can't find the driver to save my life. I know it is there because my system DSN still works.

I've looked all over the internet and haven't found a thing except someone else having this same issue (and of course no replies). I've tried to install MDAC 2.8 and reapply SP4 with no results. I know Vista is new and all but SQL 2k still has a huge install base so I can't imagine this should not work much less not be supported. Microsoft's own website is of little use as well.

I have tried to create a DSN as my domain user, local admin and domain admin all with the same issue.

Cannot Connect To SQL 2005 Using Vista ODBC Administrator

Mar 12, 2008

Here's the context:

Database server:
- Remote machine running SQL 2005 Standard as a named instance
- Named pipes and TCP are enabled for remote connections
- SQLBrowser service is running
- Listening on default named pipe (\servernamepipeMSSQL$instancenamesqlquery)

Client:
- Vista Business machine
- Not in same domain as server, but on the same network (via Cisco VPN)
- SQL 2005 Express is installed (for use with local databases)
- Windows Firewall enabled
- Running Symantec Antivirus, Corporate Edition

Connectivity:
- I CAN connect to SQL 2005 databases on the remote server using "nperverinstancename"
- I CAN connect to SQL 2005 databases on the remote server using Excel 2007

The problem is that I cannot successfully create an ODBC datasource using the "ODBC Data Source Administrator" application. I'm using the "SQL Server" driver and trying to create a System DSN. I'm also running the tool with elevated permissions.

- When I try to use "servernameinstancename" as the server and TCP as the connection type, I get this error:

Connection failed: SQL Server Error: 18452; "[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server] Login failed for user ''. The user is not associated with a trusted SQL Server connection.

- When I try to use "npervernameinstancename" as the server and Named Pipes, I get this error:

Connection failed: SQLState: '01000'; SQL Server Error: 1326; [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][DBNETLIB]ConnectionOpen(Connect()).
Connection failed: SQLState: '08000'; SQL Server Error: 17; [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][DBNETLIB]SQL Server does not exist or access denied.

Help! I've really been beating my head against the wall on this one. It all works just fine with a Windows XP client machine.

Setting Up MS Access Data Source In Vista

Apr 26, 2007

I'm trying to set up a user DSN for a MS Access database in Vista. In XP it's usually just a case of going to Admin Tools > Data Sources but I only get the option of SQL Server and SQL Native Client with Vista.
I'm pretty sure I found a way of doing it a while ago by opening another version of Data Sources from the command prompt but can't for the life of me remember what it was.

Anyone know how to do this?

How Do I Add An ODBC Connection Data Source As A Data Flow Source

Mar 2, 2007

I have set up a new connection as a connection from data source, but I cannot see how to use this connection to create my Data Flow Source. I have tried using an OLE DB connection, but this is painfully slow! The process of loading 10,000 rows takes 14 - 15 minutes. The same process in Access using SQL on a linked table via DSN takes 45 seconds.

Have I missed something in my set up of the OLE DB source / connection? Will a DSN source be faster?

Thanks in advance

Data Source ODBC

Dec 8, 2007

Hi all,

I am new to SQL Server. I have some basic questions.

I have installed SQL Server Developer Edition on a Windows XP Media center edition. The installation is successful. Now I am trying to create an ODBC, but I there are some options which I am not quite sure about.

e.g.

1. How SQL Server verify the authenticity of the login ID?
A. Windows NT....
B. SQL Server....

Client Configuration:
Server alias: ???
Named Pipes: What should be the values of [pipe name]?

or should i choose other options?....

And I when I use Query Analyzer to connect to Server, the authentication fails..

Can some one point me to the right direction, or if there's some documentation on this subject, that would be very much appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

ODBC Data Source

May 2, 2006

I am new to SSIS packages and want to use an ODBC data source connected to an old Btrieve set of data files. I set up the ODBC DSN, and my SQL Server Data Connection, and can browse the tables in the Server Explorer. However with regards to my SSIS package, I'm not sure whether to use an OLE DB Source or Data Reader Source. I have futzed with both of them but haven't had any luck at seeing the tables. Can someone please give me some tips.

Thanks,
Carson

ODBC Data Source

Jun 25, 2007

I am trying to use the ADO.NET bridge to connect to an old database on RISC6000 via an ODBC connection, but I receive an error.

So, I would use a script component to retrieve data directly from an ODBC connection, using a stored procedure.

Any sample code ?

Any idea ?

Thanks

ODBC Connection To Remote Computer Giving Invalid Instance() Message

Feb 20, 2007

I am trying to set up a ODBC connection to a remote database using the ODBC data source administrator. I am getting an error message complaining of an invalid instance(). The database I am trying to connect to does have a default instance and a named instance. Do I need to specify the instance name somewhere in the connection settings? I tried specifying the server name as <Remote computer IP Address>/<Instance Name> but this didn't work. Any ideas?

ODBC Data Source Creation

Jul 18, 2001

I'm trying to create an ODBC Data Source on both an NT 4.0 server and 2000 Professional workstation that are remote. I can not seem to get them to connect. What do I put in the server name field when creating the network library connection? I have tried both the ip address and fully qualified domain name of the sql server and neither worked.

Thanks in advance,
-Marty

Progress Database ODBC Source

Apr 16, 2007

Hello,

I need to pull in data from a progress database into a table in SQL server 2005. I have an ODBC conncetion on the server where I am working.

I am new to SSIS but have used DTS. I need to succsefully pull the data into a table in SQL server 2005 from this progress database.

I have setup my ODBC connection but I cannot pull the data using this connection. The connection test succeeded for the connection manager. When I attempt to use the datasource reader and point to the ODBC Connection Manager entry I recieve Cannot acquire a managed connection from the run time connection manager

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks,

SSIS ODBC Source Component

Apr 24, 2006

I need to create an ODBC source script component that outputs into SQL Server. When I debug I get the following error message:

Error at Data Flow Task [Script Component [1]]: System.InvalidCastException: Unable to cast object of type 'System.Data.Odbc.OdbcConnection' to type 'System.Data.SqlClient.SqlConnection'. at Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.Pipeline.ScriptComponentHost.HandleUserException(Exception e) at Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.Pipeline.ScriptComponentHost.AcquireConnections(Object transaction) at Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.Pipeline.ManagedComponentHost.HostAcquireConnections(IDTSManagedComponentWrapper90 wrapper, Object transaction)Error at Data Flow Task [DTS.Pipeline]: component "Script Component" (1) failed validation and returned error code 0x80004002.

Here the problem code:

Imports System
Imports System.Data
Imports System.Data.SqlClient
Imports System.Math
Imports System.IO
Imports Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.Pipeline.Wrapper
Imports Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.Runtime.Wrapper

Public Class ScriptMain
Inherits UserComponent
Dim connMgr As IDTSConnectionManager90
Dim sqlConn As SqlConnection
Dim sqlReader As SqlDataReader

Public Overrides Sub AcquireConnections(ByVal Transaction As Object)
connMgr = Me.Connections.PP
sqlConn = CType(connMgr.AcquireConnection(Nothing), SqlConnection)
End Sub

Public Overrides Sub PreExecute()
Dim cmd As New SqlCommand("SELECT Solution_Code_From, Solution_Code_To FROM Solconv", sqlConn)
sqlReader = cmd.ExecuteReader
End Sub

Public Overrides Sub CreateNewOutputRows()
Do While sqlReader.Read
With SolutionOutputBuffer
.AddRow()
.solcodefr = sqlReader.GetString(1)
.solcodeto = sqlReader.GetString(0)
End With
Loop
End Sub

Public Overrides Sub PostExecute()
sqlReader.Close()
End Sub

Public Overrides Sub ReleaseConnections()
connMgr.ReleaseConnection(sqlConn)
End Sub

End Class

Would appreciate any advice.

Thanks in advance,
Pozzled

Append New Records From ODBC Source

Sep 10, 2006

I have created a data warehouse that pulls information from an ODBC source into a SQL database. The schema in the destination matches the source, and the packages clear the destination tables, then append all the records from the source. This is simpler than updating, appending new, and deleting on each table to get them in sync since there is no modify timestamp in the source.

There are cases where I just want to append records from the source table that do not already exist in the destination table, without clearing the destination table first.

How can this be done with a SSIS job? Also, how can the job be run from a Windows Forms application?

Setting Up ODBC Data Source For SQL Server

Jan 22, 2007

I am running Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition, and I am having difficulties setting up an ODBC User Data Source to connect to the SQL server.
I have tried going through "Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Data Sources (ODBC)" to add a user data source. For the SQL Server to connect to, I have tried specifying "localhostSQLEXPRESS", "SQLEXPRESS", "(local)", etc. -- but nothing seems to work. When the DSN configuration wizard tries to connect to the SQL Server to obtain default settings, it fails with the error "SQL Server does not exist or access denied". (Same error occurs if I try connecting to this ODBC data source later.)
But I know that the SQL Server exists and I have been using it through the SQL Server data provider in another application.
I am new to this, so any help or pointers would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Kumar

ODBC Data Source Administrator Problem

May 25, 1999

I have been using ODBC data source administrator for years without any problem. However, after a unsuccesful MSSQL7.0 installation, i keep getting
the following message:

"An error occurred while windows was working with the control panel file

D:WINNTSystem32Odbccp32.cpl"

Any insight into this would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
