Problems With Downloaded Installation Files

Apr 17, 2008

I have sql server 2005 express installed on my Vista machine. (Specifically version 9.00.3042.00 of Management Studio Express). I attempted to install the sql server 2005 express with advanced features, which I downloaded from the page at

http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/express/bb410792.aspx. When I attempt to open the downloaded file, I get the message SQLEXPR_ADV.EXE is not a valid Win32 application. Attempting to extract the files using Winzip, I receive the message 'Cab is corrupt'. I have installed and run the msi.

FTP-Task: Multiple Files Not Downloaded

May 11, 2007

Hello all,

I am new to SSIS and have a (maybe) simple question:

I use the FTP-Task to download two excel files from a FTP server. The task succeeds but only one file is downloaded instead of

two. I tried both: RemotePathVariable = false with /FTPTest/*.xls as RemotePath and RemotePathVariable = true with a variable

containing the same path. Both bring up the result described above.

Thank you in advance

What Is Different In The Version I Downloaded This Week From The Version I Downloaded In March?

Jun 17, 2007

I ask because I was testing a Source Control solution that uses SQL Express for its database component, and when I tested it in March it worked fine, but now I can't get the Source Control software to recognize that the database is there. It creates it just fine, it just can't seem to look inside the database instance.

I've tried manipulating ports, assigning permissions, browser on, browser off, I've been at this for about a week.

The Source Control software provider won't provide any information on configuring SQL Express, so I'm here.

SQL Express Fails On Setup Support Files Installation On Vista

Hi
We have a problem installing SQL Express Edition SP1 on Vista. The installation stops during installation of setup support files with the following message:

The log file points to the support.log file with the following content:

I'm not sure what info is required to pinpoint the problem but here are some log files and a screen shot of the message.

Any help or pointers would be greatly appreciated.

SQL Server 2005 Installation Hangs On Removing Temporary Files Step

Feb 2, 2007

I have a virtual machine that previously had SQL Server 2005 installed. Since I changed the computer name, I have to reinstall SQL. I removed all the SQL components and am trying to reinstall the database and reporting components. The installation is failing on the "Removing temporary files" step. According to the setup progress screen, the following components have been installed:

OWC11

SQL Server Bakcward-Compatibility Files

SQL Server Database Services

Reporting Services

Visual Studio Integrated Development

SQL Server Books Online

SQLXML4

Workstation Components, Books Online - this step is still in "configuring components" status.

The virtual machine is running Windows 2003 Server SP1 with all current patches, using just under 2 GB of memory (1920 MB of RAM), the host is Windows XP SP2 with all current patches, with 4 GB of memory.

I had no problem doing this procedure on a different virtual machine, so I'm not sure what the problem is here.

When File Downloaded Then Run Import

Nov 14, 2005

I wish to know if there is a way to react to when a file is placed in a specific directory, what I have at the moment is a scheduled task which runs every 30 minutes, checks whether a file exists and if it does and isn't empty it imports the XML file, however instead of waiting 30 minutes I wish to rn the import as soon as the user creates the file in a specific location, is this possible, can you monitor the directory constantly and then react once file appears ??

any assistance is greatly appreciated.

Output Filename Downloaded To A Variable

Sep 7, 2007

Hope I can make this clear...

I have to download a file via FTP from one of our vendors, the filename is MMDDYYYY.zip, this is a weekly file and is posted between Tuesday and Thursday, so basically I never know exactly what the file is going to be called, to fix that, I added a FTP Task that will download a file if the date = today (Today = Thursday, when the job kicks off), if this fails, try a file where the name = today-1 (Wednesday), if this fails, try today-2 (Tuesday), all of that inside of a Sequence Container and with MaximumErrorCount set to 3. This is fine and it works fine, good.

Now my other issue, the .txt file inside the zip file (1080.txt), after being decompressed, needs to be renamed to MMDDYYYY.txt, where MMDDYYY = to the file I downloaded, but I never know what the file is going to named (MMDDYYYY, MMDD-1YYYY, MMDD-2YYYY).

Is it possible to output the filename of the file that I successfully download to a variable, so I can re-use name?

Any other thoughts?

Not Able To View The Complete Data, When Report Is Downloaded In Excel Format

Apr 9, 2008

Hi,

I am facing an issue, while exporting report to excel.
I have a report where some legends are being displayed on coversheet using matrix. The contents are fetched from backend.Some of legends have got too much of text while others don't have much.In matrix properties, I checked can increase/decrease to accommodate changes. When report runs in report viewer it shows correctly i.e. it adjusts its width according to contents but when same report is exported to Excel it doesn't happen so. The size of cell is not increasing dynamically, depending upon the data. User needs to expand the cell in order to view the data.
So, is there any option by which, we can implement data wrap functionality for matrix, when report is downloaded in excel format.

Your suggestion will be of great help.

Thanks & Regards,

How To Copy Data From Backup Or Data Files To New SQL Installation?

Dec 10, 2005

Hi,I have(had) an old Win2k Server server with about 30 web site databases(SQL 2000) that just went under due to hardware problems. Thankfully, Ihave backups of all the databases plus the MDF and LDF files from thehard drive.I want to move all of these sites and their data to a newer server(Win2003) running SQL2000.What's the best way to copy the database from the old server hard drive(now mounted as an extrnal drive to a local machine; I'm currentlyFTPing all of the web site directories from it to the new server)?Just upload the original data to the new server and then mount the MDFand LDF files within the new SQL server? Or do I restore the backupfiles in the new SQL2000?All of my previous data migrations have been DTS operations from onelive server to another, so no experience with either of the abovescenarios. I'll certainly have a lot more experience at one of them bythe time this weekend is through.Thanks for any help you can offer.

To install SQL Server Express To begin installation, double-click sqlexpr.exe. Note: SQL Server Express is available as a self-extracting executable file (sqlexpr.exe) from both the Visual Studio 2005 CD and the SQL Server Express Web site. SQLEXPR.EXE installs on x86-based computers and to the 32-bit subsystem (WOW64). For more information, see Hardware and Software Requirements (SQL Server Express)

SQL Server Admin 2014 :: Separate Data Files / Log Files / TempDB / Backups

Jan 9, 2015

I proposed on a new server that we separate Data Files, Log Files, tempDB, Backups, etc. onto separate LUNS on a SAN with High Speed Solid State Drives.I was told that with the new technology with solid state SAN's that it would decrease performance and that it did not work the same way as it did when you had RAID 5's etc.I thought that if things were cared out correctly by a SAN Administrator they would know how to configure for optimal performance.

Script Task: How To Compare Files On FTP With Existing Files In Local Folder Before Transfer!

Apr 24, 2008

In the first step of my SSIS package I need to get files from FTP and dump it/them in a local directory, but it's more than that, the logic is like this:
1. If no file(s) found, stop executing and send email saying no file(s) found;
2. If file(s) found, then compare it/them with existing files in our archive folder; if file(s) already exist in archive folder, stop executing and send email saying file(s) already existed, if file(s) not in archive folder yet, then transfer it/them to the local directory for processing.

I know i have to use a script task to do this and i did some research and found examples for each of the above 2 steps and not both combined, so that's why I need some help here to get the logic incorporated right.

Thanks for the help in advance and i apologize for the long lines of code!

example for step 1:
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

' Microsoft SQL Server Integration Services Script Task
' Write scripts using Microsoft Visual Basic
' The ScriptMain class is the entry point of the Script Task.

Imports System
Imports System.Data
Imports System.Math
Imports Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.Runtime
Imports Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.Pipeline.Wrapper
Imports Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.Runtime.Wrapper
Imports Microsoft.VisualBasic.FileIO.FileSystem
Imports System.IO.FileSystemInfo

Public Class ScriptMain

' The execution engine calls this method when the task executes.
' To access the object model, use the Dts object. Connections, variables, events,
' and logging features are available as static members of the Dts class.
' Before returning from this method, set the value of Dts.TaskResult to indicate success or failure.
'
' To open Code and Text Editor Help, press F1.
' To open Object Browser, press Ctrl+Alt+J.

Public Sub Main()

Dim cDataFileName As String
Dim cFileType As String
Dim cFileFlgVar As String
WriteVariable("SCFileFlg", False)
WriteVariable("OOFileFlg", False)
WriteVariable("INFileFlg", False)
WriteVariable("IAFileFlg", False)
WriteVariable("RCFileFlg", False)
cDataFileName = ReadVariable("DataFileName").ToString
cFileType = Left(Right(cDataFileName, 4), 2)
cFileFlgVar = cFileType.ToUpper + "FileFlg"
WriteVariable(cFileFlgVar, True)
Dts.TaskResult = Dts.Results.Success
End Sub
Private Sub WriteVariable(ByVal varName As String, ByVal varValue As Object)
Try
Dim vars As Variables
Dts.VariableDispenser.LockForWrite(varName)
Dts.VariableDispenser.GetVariables(vars)
Try
vars(varName).Value = varValue
Catch ex As Exception
Throw ex
Finally
vars.Unlock()
End Try
Catch ex As Exception
Throw ex
End Try
End Sub
Private Function ReadVariable(ByVal varName As String) As Object
Dim result As Object
Try
Dim vars As Variables
Dts.VariableDispenser.LockForRead(varName)
Dts.VariableDispenser.GetVariables(vars)
Try
result = vars(varName).Value
Catch ex As Exception
Throw ex
Finally
vars.Unlock()
End Try
Catch ex As Exception
Throw ex
End Try
Return result
End Function
End Class

example for step 2:

SQL 2012 :: FOR FILES Command To Delete Old Backup Files On Remote Server?

Feb 24, 2015

I have the need to delete old backup files via TSQL job. Found this solution online:

PushD "
emoteservershareDIFF" &&(
forfiles -m *DIFF*.sqb -d -1 -c "cmd /c del /q @path"
) & PopD

It works remotely if I run it via command prompt. But when I add this to a TSQL job on my remote SQL instance, it runs without deleting anything. What I'm missing?
