Happy 2008!!!!
I am inserting data into a tab delimted text file using SSIS package.
After data insetion some extra tabs get added between columns in some rows in the text file.
Can we programmatically delete the extra tabs from the text file, if so how to use/implement the code inside the SSIS package?
Any pointer/suggestions are welcome.
We€™ve got almost 250 old dts packages which simply loading data into Sql tables from plain files or at the reverse point. Most of them are defined with fixed fields and its fixed positions one after one. We don€™t want to migrate them using Import wizard, on the contrary we€™re producing them from the beggining taking advantatge of SSIS architecture to the full. And now, we€™re trying to imagine how to migrate automatically that valuable info from Sql Server 2000 to Sql Server 2005 without efforts€¦ You know, any program be able to move that detailed info to SSIS.
So we would avoid to select again all these positions per each file -very tedious and we're lazy
I don€™t see how except, of course, migrate them directly

I've run into a problem with SSIS packages wherein tasks that write or copy files, or create or delete directories, quit execution without any hint of an error nor a failure message, when called from an ASP.NET 2.0 application running on any other machine than the one where the package was created from. By all indications it appeared to be an identity/permissions problem.
Our application involves a separate web server and database server. Both have SQL Server 2005 installed, but the application server originally only had Integration services. The packages are file system-deployed on the application server, and are called using Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.Runtime methods. For all packages that involve file system tasks, the above problem occurs.
When the above packages are run using the command prompt (either DTEXEC or DTEXECUI) the packages execute just fine. This is expected since we are using an administrative account. However when a ShellExecute of the same command is called from ASP.NET, the same problem occurs.
I've tried giving administrative permissions to the ASPNET worker process user to no avail.
I have likewise attempted to use the SQL Server Agent job approach but that approach might not be acceptable for our clients since it means installing SQL Server 2005 Database services on the application server.
I have read the relevant threads in this forum, namely http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=1044739&SiteID=1 and http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=927084&SiteID=1 but failed to find any solution appropriate for our set up.
We manage some SSIS servers, which has only SSIS and SSIS tools installed on them and not the sql server DB.
SSIS packages and configuration files are deployed on a NAS. We run the SSIS packages through DTEXEC by logging in to the server.
We want to allow developers to run their packages on their own on the server, but at the same time we dont want to give them physical access on the server i.e we do not want to add them into RDP users list on server properties. We want them to allow running their packages remotely on the server.
One way We could think of is by using powershell remoting and we are working on that. But is there any other way or any tool already present for the same.
I have a tab delimited file I need to transfer to a table using SSIS. Columns can have NULL value and there might be extra tabs in each row also. How can I do this? Maybe fuzzy lookup?
I ran my package and it was successfu. I tried running it again, but this time it throws me this error:

Why suddenly without changing anything, i encountered this error? What does it mean it cannot prepare the SSIS bulk insert. My connection to server is working ok.
Hi All, i have mutiple text file. let us say,a1.txtb1.txtc1.txt i have to port this text file data into the table (SqlServer Database) which have the same file structure.(i.e)x1 (SqlServer table)y2 (SqlServer table)z3 (SqlServer table) now i have to transfer a1.txt file data ----to--- x1b1.txt file data ----to--- y2c1.txt file data ----to--- z3 using SSIS. like that, i have to transfer more than 250 files at a time.manually binding 250 files into the package is very cumbersome and time consuming process. so, can any one give ur valuable sugession to solve this issue.
I am using the flat file connection manager. I read in a set of flat files and copy them into a staging database table. I want to ignore anything in the text file past column 266. I can't get this to work correctly. I can't define the last column to end at 266 and ignore the rest. I tried adding an extra column but that did not work either.

What could be the reason for this? I don't usually have an error.
I have a flat file which is loaded into the database on a daily basis. The file contains rows of strings which I load into a table, specifically to a column of length 8000.
The string has a length of 690, but the format is like 'xxxxxx xx xx..' and so on, where 'xxxx' represents data. So there are spaces, etc present in the middle.
Previously I used SQL 2000 DTS to load the files in, and it was just a Column Transformation with the Col001 from the text file loading straight to my table column. After the load, if I select len(col) it gives me 750 for all rows.
Once I started to migrate this to SSIS, I allocated the Control Flow Task and specified the flat file source and the oledb destination, and gave the output column a type of String and output column width of 8000. But when I run the data flow task it copies only 181 or 231 characters out of the 750 required. I feel it stops where it finds the SPACES and skips the rest.
I specified row delimiters or CR, and LF. I checked the file under UltraEdit and there were no special characters in the file that would cause the problem.
Any suggestions how I can get it to load the full data?
So i have about 80 different SSIS PAckages that load different text files into tables. each package has a config file that contains password, server name and user id. I want to forward these packages to a use who will execute them. So instead of giving the user 80 packages to execute manually, how do i put these packages into one parent package so that the user has to only execute this parent package instead of executing 80 different packages NB. package exec is manually. (we will automate later) so this is a temp measure.
Having searched the forum, this one clearly has form... However beyond assisting those who have fallen at the first hurdle (i.e. forgetting/not knowing that they cannot execute the package remotely to the instance of SQL Server into which they are inserting), the issues raised by others have not been addressed. Thus I am bringing nothing new to the table here - just providing an executive summary of problems which others have run into, written about, but not received answers for.

Important points
It mostly works - It produces no error more than 9 times out of 10.
It fails on random dataflows - My package has several dataflows, (mostly) executing concurrently. Where the error occurs it does not do so on the same dataflow each time: on one run it'll fail on dataflow A whilst B,C,D and E succeed, then A-E will all succeed (and continue doing so for the next ten runs thereafter), and then the error recurs for dataflow D, with A,B,C and E all succeeding. Hope someone has something interesting to say,
We have created SSIS package to load a text file into a table. Source system shares 10 text files and recently they stopped generating data for one of the text file (comping empty), after few months they will start generating the data for the empty file batch processing.Â
The Issue here is Data Flow task is getting failed while loading empty text file into table. How to handle this empty file load issue in SSIS package.
I am not able to open the package in BIDS. When I open the package I am seeing only the XML. Below I had given what I have done.
First I have installed Visual studio 2008 Professional and next I installed SQL Server 2005 with Integration services, database services, workflow components.
I am able to see the BIDS in Start --> All Programes --> Microsoft SQL Server 2005 --> "SQL Server Business Intelligence Development Studio"

I'm wondering if there's a good way to sort of pass a value to a trigger, in cases where it needs to store more than just what it can collect from the table it is triggering off of.
We have a database that is used by several applications. Each application connects to the database using a distinct SQL Server Login. So, "Application1" might connect to the database using SQL Server Login "Application1Login".
Each application can be used by any number of users who "log in" to the application. This process merely authenticates them against a stored username and password in the database, but it uses the "Application1Login" for actually connecting to the database. So, when users log in to the application, they're all using the same SQL Server Login to connect to the database. This isn't something that is likely to change, though I realize my question could be answered more simply if each person using the system connected via a specific SQL Server Login.
Whenever an action is performed against the database by an application user, we pass the UserId of the user. We store that UserId in tables when they are inserted or updated. We also have History Tables on several tables, with triggers on Insert, Update, and Delete.
The Insert and Update triggers work great: The stored procedure sets the "LastModifiedByUserId" field in the table to the passed UserId, which causes the history table's entry to use that newly changed information. So, we can always tell who inserted or modified a History table entry by setting the Last Modified By field in the Insert or Update.
The problem is with deletions. Since deletions don't set the LastModifiedByUserId field (it doesn't set fields; it's deleting the row), then the trigger has nothing new to go on. The trigger will cause the History table entry to use the last known value of the LastModifiedByUserId field, which is probably not going to be the person who actually deleted the record.
My solution to this problem is to create a "HistoryDeletedUser" table which only contains a single row, and a single column, which is used to store a UserId value. When performing a deletion, I would first update that table, setting the UserId to the current user's UserId. Then, I delete from the appropriate table. The DELETE trigger would then select the current value from that table, and insert it into the History record as the UserId of the person who deleted the record. After the deletion, I would set the HistoryDeletedUser to Null. As long as I perform my queries within a transaction, it should always be accurate (though I suppose that queries that would otherwise be unrelated to each other would now have to compete for Lock access on the HistoryDeletedUser table...)
I am trying to utilize DTUtil command to automate deployment of SSIS Package from the Build Server to Dev Server. I am getting an invalid option error, when I try to run the following command:
Currently I have a .CMD file, in which I have the above command, and I am trying to run the CMD file and it returns an error. Can someone help me the DTUtil switches. My goal is to move a DTSX file from Server A(Build Server) to Server B(Dev Server). Also is there a switch to specify the server name, if UNC path is not supported. Also I am using File System Deployment, and running the file as an Administrator. I have admin privs on both Build and Dev Server. Thanks and I appreciate some help on this.
Hi, newbie to sql2005. I am trying to write a VB.NET program to list all ssis packages we have stored in a file folder (not in MSDB) where both SqlServer and ssis servers are located. These packages currently running on daily basis by automated jobs with no problem.
I have found the following link on the web that includes VB.Net program. If you scroll down under Example (SSIS Package Store) , you'll see a VB.NET program that I am trying to get it to work for me but keep getting error message like "Cannot find folder......"
My goal is to: 1. List all ssis packages stored in the file systems (.dstx) 2. List DB source and distination providers(tables in/out) in a ssis package 3. List properties for DB providers 4. List FlatFile & Excel file provider properties in a ssis package. My assumption, but not sure, is that I may need to register this file folder (where packages are located) to the SqlServer if that is not done already. Any command or sys table in Sql2005 to figure this out?

Hello Experts, I am createing one task (user control) in SSIS. I have property grid in my GUI and 2 buttons (OK & Cancle). PropertyGrid has Properties like SourceConnection, OutputConnection etc....right now I am able to populate Connections in list box next to Source and Output Property.
Now my question to you guys is depending on Source Connection it should read that text file associated with connection manager. After validation it should pick header (first line of text file bases on record type) and write it into new file when task is executed. I have following code for your reference. Please let me know I am going in right direction or not.. What should go here ? ->Under Class A
created a very basic flow in SSIS: extracted table data through ole db connection, added multicast and as end result i created a flat file destination (with .txt file) and a ole db destination.
My question is; how can i delete the .txt file before executing the flow again? Want to avoid that the .txt file has duplicated rows after a second execution of the flow. Is it possible to use scd component or is this way to complicated? A for each loop?
i need a similar solution for the data that will be transported through the ole db destination task....
Hi, i hv made a rdl having 2 tables.My requirement is to display the tables on different sheets of excel, so i hv inserted "Page Break At End" in table1. As a result im getting tables in different sheets but second table (in sheet2) is starting from 2nd row of the sheet i.e. 1st row is coming as hidden, and i want to remove this row as client feed's this excel file in some other application. If anyone is aware of the solution pl. reply ASAP.

Hi, I am using custom dll in script component in SSIS package. This dll is looking for some configuration settings and dsplays the message as "Configuration section could not be found in the configuration source" . Please tell me the configuration source it looks for.
In my SSIS package I have a loop container that I am running the same code against 4 servers. I have the package export the SQL data to an Excel spreadsheet that has multiple tabs.
Is there a way I can change the tab on the fly or do I need to create a Connection for the same spreadsheet 4 times Each Connection pointing to a different tab?
I tried to set up a expression for the Excel Connection Manager to use the InitialCatalog for the tab and change it based on the script in the loop however this causes the following error:

In a server we had File Growth,And then We had to Add New Hard Drive And New File On It.And Now We have New server with a Huge Hard Drive.But all files remaind.Can I Reduce This files to One data file or not ?
I finally put together a SSIS package that takes a Text File and successfully imports its data into the right table. My question is, where in the package's properties can I find the option to Delete all rows from Destination Columns prior to Importing. I have looked everywhere in the Package Explorer for this setting. Thanx in advance.
I love SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS), but it doesnt let me name the tabs when exporting to Excel. The feature is well documented as not being available.
So I figured I can use the cell(1,1) on each tab to contain the tab name, and have an SSIS job poll a file share, open the file, read the cell, rename tabs, rename the file, and then email out the file. Polling the directory and emailing is a piece of cake, but I can't find any way to rename a tab without having Excel loaded on the SERVER. Not to mention instantiating an entire instance of Excel on the SERVER every time I want to do this.
I want to leverage SSRS, and preserve the formatting of the excel file, which is why I don't just dump the data in with SSIS to begin with.
