Transact SQL :: Where Clause Based On Select Statement From Another Table
Jul 9, 2015
I basically want to select all GRNID's from one table but they have to be between dates in another table. So I want all GRN's between two dates found in the ABSPeriodEndDate table. To find out the start date for the between clause I need to find the MAX Period then minus 1 and the max year. To find the end date of the between clause I want I need to find both the max period and year. But I want the DateStamp column to return the results for the between clause. My query is below:
SELECT tblGRNItem.GRNID
FROM tblGRNItem
INNER JOIN ABSPeriodEndDates ON tblGRNItem.DateCreated = ABSPeriodEndDates.DateStamp
WHERE tblGRNItem.DateCreated BETWEEN
(SELECT ABSPeriodEndDates.DateStamp FROM ABSPeriodEndDates WHERE ABSPeriodEndDates.DateStamp = (SELECT
I have scenario where i have to pick one particular value from where condition. Here is the example:A store can have different types i-e A or B , A and B or either A or B.
Store Type Sales 11 A 1000 23 A 1980 23 B 50 5 B 560
I want to filter the store in "where clause" where
1)- if the store has type A and B, then assign only A 2)- if the store has type A associated with it then assign A 3)- if the store has type B associated with it, then assign B.
Select Store, sum(sales), Type from table1 where (TYPE]= (case when [TYPE] in ('A','B') then 'A' when [TYPE]='A' then 'A' else 'B'end)) GROUP BY [store], [TYPE]
The above statement is not working for when store has only Type B associated with it.
My source table has two columns... Policynum and PolicyStartdate and data looks like.. . Policynum PolicyStartdate 123G 01/01/2012 456D 02/16/2012 789A 01/21/2012 163J 05/25/2012
Now my output should return based on 3 parameters..
First two parameters are date range... let say @fromdt and @todt
Third parameter is @policynum
Scenario-1: Enter dates in date range param and leave policynum param blank Ex: policystartdate between '01/01/2012 and '01/31/2012'.... It returns 1st and 3rd rows from above in the output
Scenario-2: enter policy num in policynum param and don't select any dates Ex: policynum ='456D' It returns 2nd row in the output
Scenario-3: Select dates in date range param and enter policynum in param Ex: policystartdate between '01/01/2012 and '01/31/2012' and policynum ='163J'. it should return only 4th row even though dates were selected(Override date range when policynum is entered in param and just return specified policynum row in the output)
I want to change Set clause of Update Statement dynamically based on some condition.
Basically i have 2 Update statments having same FROM clause and same JOIN clause.
Only diff is SET clause and 1 Where condition.
So i am trying to combine 2 Update statements into 1 and trying to avoid visit to same table twice.
Update t Set CASE **WHEN Isnull(td.IsPosted, 0) = 0 THEN t.AODYD = td.ODYD** *ELSE t.DAODYD = td.ODYD* END From #ReportData As t Join @CIR AS tmp On t.RowId = tmp.Max_RowId
Ok I have a query "SELECT ColumnNames FROM tbl1" let's say the values returned are "age, sex, race".
Now I want to be able to create an "update" statement like "UPATE tbl2 SET Col2 = age + sex + race" dynamically and execute this UPDATE statement. So, if the next select statement returns "age, sex, race, gender" then the script should create "UPDATE tbl2 SET Col2 = age + sex + race + gender" and execute it.
Please can someone advise how to use SQL select statement with where clasue which is based on a textBox.text value. ex. below example I set the textbox.text value to a C# variable called TextBoxValue1 but I receive error this is not a valid This is all done in Page_Load event backend code. string strCommandtext = "Select Type.TypeName, Type.TypeDesc FROM Type Where Type.TypeName = TextBoxValue1";
I have used the below update query. However, its updating only the first value. Like its updating AB with volume when c.Type = ABC, similarly for CD. Its not updating based on the 2nd or the next case condition.
Update XYZ Set AB = a.Amt * (CASE WHEN c.Type = 'ABC' THEN (c.volume) WHEN c.TYPE = 'DEF' THEN (c.volume) WHEN c.Type = 'GHI' THEN (c.volume) Else 0 END), CD = CASE WHEN c.Type = 'MARGIN' THEN '4105.31' WHEN c.Type = 'ABC' THEN '123.1' WHEN c.Type = 'DEF' THEN '234.2' WHEN c.Type = 'GHI' THEN '567.1' END from table1 a join table2 b on a.Cust = b.Customer join table3 c on b.account = c.account and b.channel =c.channel
Why its not working properly? But if i use Select statement instead of update query its working properly.
Display customized data based on customized where statement from UDT.
The UDT is a parameter inside of a stored procedure.
Problem:
A parameter from a stored procedure is @communication communications readonly
This parameter is a User-Defined Table Types (UDT) It contains criteria based on end-user's selection from a filtration functionality from a webpage.
Four example of filtration critera based on four end-users' selection that is located inside of a table below.
Each UDT table contains different criteria:
Number Criteria ------ -------- 1 Phone 3 Email
Number Criteria ------ -------- 1 Phone 2 Cellphone 3 email
Number Criteria ------ -------- 4 None
Number Criteria ------ -------- 2 Cellphone 1 Phone
Is it somehow possible to use the criteria's value as a column name in the where statement? I want to filtrate the data of the table datatable based on id, name and the UDT's criteria.
I was enable to apply the criteria inside of a variable by looping the UDT's table but the next thing is to paste it in the where statement after "id=1 and name" below
select * from datatable where id = 1 and name = 'Cost'
How should I do it?
[URL] .....
create table datatable (id int, name varchar(100), email varchar(10), phone varchar(10), cellphone varchar(10), none varchar(10) );
I have the following stored procedure, I would like to use IF statement or something of the sort in the where clause i.e. The last line in the SP is: AND (category.categoryID = @categoryID), I only want to check this, if @categoryID is not = 12. So can I do something like this:
IF @categoryID <> 12 AND (category.categoryID = @categoryID)
STORED PROCEDURE:
CREATE PROCEDURE sp_get_total_risk_patients @categoryID int AS
SELECT COUNT(DISTINCT patient.patientID) AS total_patients FROM patient INNER JOIN patient_record ON patient.patientID = patient_record.patientID INNER JOIN sub_category ON sub_category.sub_categoryID = patient.sub_categoryID INNER JOIN category ON category.categoryID = sub_category.categoryID WHERE risk = 6 AND (completed_date = '' OR completed_date IS NULL) AND (category.categoryID = @categoryID)
I have a table 'table_list' which contains two columns, table_name and a record_count. This table stores a list of tables and their corresponding record counts.
What I am trying to do is, to be able to write a select statement, that can read each table name in the 'table_name' column, execute a select count(*) for the same, and update its record_count with the result of select count(*).
This is the code in my procedure..
DECLARE @tab_list CURSOR set @tab_list = CURSOR FOR select * from table_list OPEN @tab_list
DECLARE @tab_name varchar(256) DECLARE @rec_cnt int FETCH NEXT FROM @tab_list INTO @tab_name, @rec_cnt
select count(*) from @tab_name
This select is looping around along with FETCH till all the table names are exhausted and their counts are updated from the cursor back into the table.
Problem is that, I am not able to use select count(*) from @tab_name, and its not accepting a variable there.
Please help me to construct the select statement that is similiar to
x=<table name> select * from x where x is a variable and the table name gets substituted.
I have a gridview that is based on the selection(s) in a listbox. The gridview renders fine if I only select one value from the listbox. I recive this error though when I select more that one value from the listbox: Syntax error converting the nvarchar value '4,1' to a column of data type int. If, however, I hard code 4,1 in place of @ListSelection (see below selectCommand WHERE and IN Clauses) the gridview renders perfectly. <asp:SqlDataSource ID="SqlDataSourceAll" runat="server" ConnectionString="<%$ ConnectionStrings:ConnectionString %>" SelectCommand="SELECT DISTINCT dbo.Contacts.Title, dbo.Contacts.FirstName, dbo.Contacts.MI, dbo.Contacts.LastName, dbo.Contacts.Suffix, dbo.Contacts.Dear, dbo.Contacts.Honorific, dbo.Contacts.Address, dbo.Contacts.Address2, dbo.Contacts.City, dbo.Contacts.StateOrProvince, dbo.Contacts.PostalCode FROM dbo.Contacts INNER JOIN dbo.tblListSelection ON dbo.Contacts.ContactID = dbo.tblListSelection.contactID INNER JOIN dbo.ListDescriptions ON dbo.tblListSelection.selListID = dbo.ListDescriptions.ID WHERE (dbo.tblListSelection.selListID IN (@ListSelection)) AND (dbo.Contacts.StateOrProvince LIKE '%') ORDER BY dbo.Contacts.LastName"> <SelectParameters> <asp:Parameter Name="ListSelection" DefaultValue="1"/> </SelectParameters> </asp:SqlDataSource> The selListID column is type integer in the database. I'm using the ListBox1_selectedIndexChanged in the code behind like this where I've tried using setting my selectparameter using the label1.text value and the Requst.From(ListBox1.UniqueID) value with the same result:
Protected Sub ListBox1_SelectedIndexChanged(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles ListBox1.SelectedIndexChanged Dim Item As ListItem For Each Item In ListBox1.Items If Item.Selected Then If Label1.Text <> "" Then Label1.Text = Label1.Text + Item.Value + "," Else Label1.Text = Item.Value + "," End If End If Next Label1.Text = Label1.Text.TrimEnd(",") SqlDataSourceAll.SelectParameters("ListSelection").DefaultValue = Request.Form(ListBox1.UniqueID) End Sub What am I doing wrong here? Thanks!
Hello everyone, I have a view, NAS_vPosition that has a coloumn vLogin_Acting and I want to use the user.identity.name to select the row from this table that matches. So far i have tried: SelectCommand = "Select * FROM NAS_vPosition WHERE vLogin_Acting = ' <%=User.Identity.Name %> ' " with no success. Any help is appreciated
I am fairly new with SQL and still learning. I have used a case statemtent for a column in my select list and want to use the results of that statement's field in my WHERE clause but it is not working for me. Here is the code I have so far:
SELECT l.loanid, p.investorid, l.duedate, case when pc.duedate >= l.duedate then pc.duedate end as RateDueDate, pc.interestrate FROM loan l inner join participation p on p.loanid = l.loanid inner join paymentchange pc on pc.loanid = l.loanid where p.investorid = '12345' and RateDueDate is not null order by l.loanid, pc.duedate
I want to put the results of this case statment in my where clause like highlighted above but it is not working because RateDueDate is not an actual column in the table. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
ClaimNumTransactionDateUsername ClaimNum TransactionAmountUserName 2000074 20150209jerry.witt 2000074 -10000DATAFIX INSERTED ON 20150626 AT 162152493 LOCAL 2000074 20150626DATAFIX INSERTED ON 20150626 AT 162152493 LOCAL 2000074 -10000DATAFIX INSERTED ON 20150626 AT 162152493 LOCAL
[Code] .....
So,if we look at the result set, we notice 2 conditions where the IG_FinancialTransactionSummary.Username is like 'Data' and if we see the transaction date then sometimes that is the max transaction date or sometimes there are transactions that happened after but that doesn't have like '%data%' in username . So, i need to add a new column to my sql query which should basically verify if the username is like '%data%' and if that is the max(transaction date) or even if there are any transactions after that doesn't have like '%data%' then YES else No.
Hi I am ramesh here from go-events.com I am using sql mail to send out emails to my mailing list
I have difficulty combining a select statement with a where clause stored in a variable inside a cursor
The users select the mail content and frequency of delivery and i deliver the mail
I use lots of queries and a stored procedure to retrieve thier preferences. In the end i use a cursor to send out mails to each of them.
Because my query is dynamic, the where clause of my select statement is stored in a variable. I have the following code that does not work
For example
DECLARE overdue3 CURSOR LOCAL FORWARD_ONLY FOR SELECT DISTINCT Events.E_Name, Events.E_SDate, Events.E_City, Events.E_ID FROM Events, IndustryEvents + @sqlquery2 OPEN overdue3
I get an error message at the '+' sign which says, cannot use empty object or column names, use a single space if necessary
How do I combine the select statement with the where clause?
I have a two tables each having a uniqueidentifier column person_id
I am trying to a select statement where I want a list of the person_id's in one table that are not in another table.
-- insert into wch_needed those who need checked
insert into #wch_needed (person_id, rendered_by ) select distinct e.person_id, e.rendered_by from #wch_who o, encounter e where o.person_id not in (select distinct person_id from #wch_have ) and o.person_id = e.person_id
the where conditional
where o.person_id not in (select distinct person_id from #wch_have )
The stored procedure, below, results in this error when I try to compile...
Msg 156, Level 15, State 1, Procedure InsertImportedReportData, Line 69 Incorrect syntax near the keyword 'ORDER'.
However the select statement itself runs perfectly well as a query, no errors.
The T-SQL manual says you can't use the keywords COMPUTE, COMPUTE BY, FOR BROWSE, and INTO in a cursor select statement, but nothing about plain old ORDER BYs.
What gives with this?
Thanks in advance R.

I have a C# application that calls a stored procedure to query the database (MSSQL 2005). I only have one field/column returned from the query but I need that column ordered.
How do I use the ORDER BY clause without returning the index column which does the sorting? The first example is NOT what I want. I want something that works like the second example which only returns the 'Name' column.
ALTER PROCEDURE [dbo].[MyProcedure]
AS
BEGIN
SELECT DISTINCT A.Name, A.index
FROM ... ... ORDER BY A.[Index], A.Name ASC
END
ALTER PROCEDURE [dbo].[MyProcedure]
AS
BEGIN
SELECT DISTINCT A.Name FROM ... ... ORDER BY A.[Index]
I have built an Advanced Search page which allows users to select which columns to return (via checkbox) and to enter search criteria for any of the selected columns (into textboxes). I build the SQL statement from the properties of the controls. Works great. My problem is getting my gridview control to play nicely. At first I used a SqlDataReader and bound the gridview to it, thus giving me the ability to run new SQL statements through it (with different columns each time). Worked nicely. But, per Microsoft, sorting can only be done if the gridview is bound to a datasource control like the SqlDataSource. So I wrote the code to handle sorting. No big deal; worked nicely. But I could not adjust the column widths programmatically unless bound to a datasource control like the SqlDataSource. And could not figure out a work around. So, I decided to use the SqlDataSource. Works great. Except, I cannot figure out how to run a new SELECT statement through the SQLDataSource and have the gridview respond accordingly. If I try to return anything other than the exact same columns defined declaratively in the html, it pukes. But I need to be able to return a new selection of columns each time. For example, first time through the user selects columns 1,2,3,4 – the gridview should show those 4 columns. The second time the user selects columns 2,5,7 – the gridview should those 3 columns (and ONLY those 3 columns). Plus support selection and sorting. I am desperate on this. I've burned 2.5 days researching and testing. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks, Brad
I have a table when user add new sales or puchase will be added to this table ITEM_TXNS. The above date is part of the table for a ProductID . (The field is removed here) In order to calculate the balance amount using moving average, I must calculated the cost_out_amt first on the fly. When user add new sales I also need to determine the cost/unit for a product id using moving average. The problem is I can not just use sum, because i need to determine cost_out_amt for each sales first which will be calculated on the fly. The reason i dont store the cost_out_amt (instead calculate on the fly) because User could Edit the previous sales/purchase txn or Insert new sales for a previous date. Example THe record with ID 9. By Adding this txn with ID 9, would cause all the cost_out_amt will be incorrect (Using moving Average) if i store the cost_amout_out on entrying txn and need to be recalculated. Instead I just want to calculate on the fly and able to determine the cost avr for a specific point of time. Should I just use Cursor and loop all the record and calculate the cost or maybe I can just use on Select Statement?
Dear All I need to cerate a SP that SELECTS all the records from a table WHERE the first letter of each records starts with 'A' or 'B' or 'C' and so on. The letter is passed via a parameter from a aspx web page, I was wondering that someone can help me in the what TSQL to use I am not looking for a solution just a poin in the right direction. Can you help.
I would like to update the flag of the promotion ID should the promotion ID date range overlap with Promotion ID(All) Date Range. The general logic is as below.
Update TableName SET PromotionID Flag = 1 AND Reason = 'Overlap with row ID(Overlap row ID number)' Where EACH ROW(Except with Promotion ID ALL) Date Range Overlap with ROW(with promotion ID ALL) Date range
I didn't find whats problem with this code. Actually I try to create a select statement with with cte select statement. In cte clause my output ok but when I try to receive that output from write another select statement then its show error.

How I can get the following Desired SELECT STATEMENT with the increment of Max(serial_no)+1. Date will be in quotation in desired SELECT STATEMENT. All data is same. Just changing the serial_no which will be Max(serial_no)+1.
Create table #seq (serial_no numeric, Scode numeric, Sdate datetime, SErr char(10)) insert into #seq values (1,1002,'10/10/2015','SEDT') insert into #seq values (2,1005,'12/10/2015','PEFT') insert into #seq values (3,1004,'1/1/2015','QEGT') insert into #seq values (4,1008,'1/2/2015','TEWT') insert into #seq values (5,1007,'3/10/2015','REDT')
I have a table that holds notes for item's. I'm want to do a select statement where one of my columns assigns a sequential value to each row based on the item number. Would like data to look like this where doc_no would be my row_number function:
item_no seq_no note doc_no ABC 1 blah 1 ABC 2 blahh 1 ABC 3 bla3 1 XYZ 1 more n 2 XYZ 2 another 2 EFG 1 blahhh 3
I have a GridView dispalying from a SQLServerDataSource that is using a SQL Select Union statement (like the following):
SELECT FirstName, LastNameFROM MasterUNION ALLSELECT FirstName, LastNameFROM CustomORDER BY LastName, FirstName I am wondering how to create Update and Insert statements for this SQLServerDataSource since the select is actually driving from two different tables (Master and Custom). Any ideas if or how this can be done? Specifically, I want the Custom table to be editable, but not the Master table. Any examples or ideas would be very much appreciated! Thanks, Randy
I'm using sql 2008 and triying to build a dynamic sql script to split the records 50/50.I know using newid() with order by clause selects randomly but how should I build the select statement to split the data 50/50 so i don't need to run the script manually everytime ?
