I overwrote rsreportserver.config with one from a different installation and that killed my RS because of the encryption key inside that file. Is there any way to generate that file for current install or do I have to reinstall the whole thing now?

We are unable to login in database due to “The server could not load the certificate it needs to initiate an SSL connection. It returned the following error: 0x80090331. Check certificates to make sure they are valid. Unable to initialize SSL encryption because a valid certificate could not be found, and it is not possible to create a self-signed certificate.”we have tried to run that selfssl.exe from command prompt followed by below command and am getting the cryptographic error.
I have corrected the problem with named pipes versus TCP/IP but I have found a reference to lrustats stating that page flushes should be less than 100 and free avg less than 10 but my numbers are extremely high. One of the things I noticed upon assuming this job was that many settings were off a bit bit LogLRU buffers were never set.This setting was introduced with service pack 2 with a readme.txt on how to configure. All my references and the ones that I have skimmed through in bookstores do not contain this configuration setting.
Microsoft no longer offers SP2 for download so that I could get the readme.txt. If any of you have this file or service pack laying around, please email it to me so that I can configure. It is suppose to take care of some bufwait errors. I even download the French version to see if it was there and maybe I could find someone with a french background but it did not contain the file. It was in last years Technet CD but my company tossed it when they got the new one. Can anyone help?

I got an issue with encrypt and decrypt. I encrypted a data, say 'ok', then I decrypt the encrypted data, but what I got is not 'ok'. but if I encrypt a column, then after decryption, those data asr same with the original data in that column.
I am getting this error when i clicked on configuration manager. "Cannot connect to WMI provider. You do not have permissions or the server is unreachable. Note that you can only manage SQL server 2005 and later servers with configuration manager only."
Hi At the moment i don't remember but some times back i found an stored procedure that can DECRYPTall ENCRYPTED objects in sqlServer2000 ( i will try to put URL here) such as stored procedures,Triggers and even View(s). Now i'm writing a very confidential StoredProcedure and i don't want to be hack in this way.Is teher any way to prevent this.Has this Bug been fixed by any of Service Packs.? I've a slight problem with configuring my Report Server. I have set up everything apart from the initialisation and and the Windows Service Identity, however when I select the panel for the latter I am presented with a message box displaying the following:

I have tried re-installing the entire SQL server setup and this made no difference, I followed this by removing then reinstalling just the Report Service. Still nothing.
Any ideas as to what it is doing and how I should go about fixing it?
I need to start encrypting several fields in a database and have been doing some testing with a test database first. I've run into problems when attempting to restore the database on either the same server (but different database) or to a separate server.
First, here's how i created the symmetric key and encrypted data in the original database:
create master key encryption by password = 'testAppleA3';
create certificate test with subject = 'test certificate', EXPIRY_DATE = '1/1/2010';
create symmetric key sk_Test with algorithm = triple_des encryption by certificate test;
open symmetric key sk_Test decryption by certificate test;
insert into employees values (101,'Jane Doe',encryptbykey(key_guid('sk_Test'),'$200000')); insert into employees values(102,'Bob Jones',encryptbykey(key_guid('sk_Test'),'$500000'));
select * from employees --delete from employees select id,name,cast(decryptbykey(salary) as varchar(10)) as salary from employees
close all symmetric keys
Next I backup up this test database and restore it to a new database on a different server (same issue if restore to different database but on same server).
Then if i attempt to open the key in the new database and decrypt:
open symmetric key sk_Test decryption by certificate test;
I get the error: An error occurred during decryption.
Ok, well not unexpected, so reading the forums, i try doing the below first in the new database:
ALTER MASTER KEY ADD ENCRYPTION BY SERVICE MASTER KEY
Then I try opening the key again and get the error again:
An error occurred during decryption.
So then it occurs to me, maybe i need to drop and recreate it so i do
drop symmetric key sk_test
then
create symmetric key sk_Test with algorithm = triple_des encryption by certificate test;
and then try to open it.
Same error!
So then i decide, let's drop everything, the master key, the certificate and then symmetric key:
drop symmetric key sk_test drop certificate test drop master key
Then recreate the master key:
create master key encryption by password = 'testAppleA3';
Restore the certificate from a backup i had made to a file:
CREATE CERTIFICATE test FROM FILE = 'c:storedcertsencryptiontestcert'
Recreate the symmetric key again:
create symmetric key sk_Test with algorithm = triple_des encryption by certificate test;
And now open the key only to get the error:
Cannot decrypt or encrypt using the specified certificate, either because it has no private key or because the password provided for the private key is incorrect.
So what am I doing wrong here? In this scenario I would appear to have lost all access to decrypt the data in the database despite restoring from a backup which restored the symmetric key and certificate and i obviously know the password for the master key.
I also tried running the command
ALTER MASTER KEY ADD ENCRYPTION BY SERVICE MASTER KEY
I have just finished installing SQL 2005 Ent Edition on Win 2000 Adv Server, SQL2005 SP2, and SP2 Hotfix KB934458. After the installation, I could see and configure all services via SQL Configuration Manager and SQL Server Surface Area Configuration tools. This worked for a couple of days and now both configuration tools no longer detect SQL2005 components. SQL Server Surface Area Configuration issued an error that said "No SQL Server 2005 components were found on specified computer. Either no components are installed, or you are not an administrator on this computer. (SQLAC)". SQL Configuration Manager did not list any installed services. I dont know what caused this. Anyone has any idea? Please help! Below is the Installation Report which shows installed components.

i am using a control that i downloaded from the control gallery It has a line for a connection string.

I have installed Reportin Services 2005 , X64. I selected install but do not configure.
Afterwards i applied Service Pack 1 and ran all the hotfixes for sql components as per KB 918222.
The i launch the RS configuration manager i succesffuly setup Report Server/Manager Virtual DIrectory and servcie identity.
I then setup the database, i create a new database to the local 2005 instance i just installed with RS, the databse is created successfully.
Basically i have green ticks all the way, however Initialize is greyed out i cannot take the option to initialize the server ???
When i try to restart the RS service it says that the service failed to repond in a timely fashion, when i check the even log the servcie only started 10 minutes later, and there are no errors ?
WHen i go back to RS config manager , initialize is till greyed out , this is the last step i ahve to do but i cannot take the option ???

Now my question:
1. if I have to initialize a snapshot but I would like to do it without the snapshot agent, what methods are available?
2. Usually the distribution agent will request an initialize snapshot. How can I tell him, that I would like to use an alternative method and that the distribution agent should NOT request a snapshot?
3. Any suggestions about a good practive for materializing huge and big tables wihtout using the disitrbution agent (e.g. "switch off" replication, bcp table out of the primary site and bcp it into the target site, "start" distribution agent so that it doesn't request a snapshot).
I have just completed a fresh install of SSRS 2005. Now, when I try to initialize it, it fails. I then try to delete any encrypted content and get the following error:

From what I know, Reporting Services has never been installed on the machine in question. And if so, then haow can I get around this encrypted key issue?
I have a For Loop container where each iteration a Master record is inserted. I also have a number of package variables capturing rowcounts from the dataflow task. I later update the master record with the rowcounts. How do I initialize the package variables containing the rowcounts because currently, some of the rowcounts are being populated with rowcounts from another file.
It seems to me, that the best way is to have one Environment Varible containing the name of the SQL Server, so that you can look up the configuration in the SSIS Configuration Table when you run the package.
Is this the preferable way of doing it ? I would like to hear some positive/negative comment of why chosing a configuration type instead of another.
It seems to me that putting all of the configuration in the Environment variable is harder work but most secure (server breakdown vs table corruption/database error...)

I am developing a system using SQL Server replication between SQL Server EXPRESS 2005 clients and SQL Server 2005 servers. I initialize the replica databases with a script, then I do not want to initilize the subscriber with the snapshot; I configure each subscriber to "not initilize", but when I run the first synchronization the snapshot copy process is always is executed.
Maybe am I forgetting something? Can I use this SQL Server EXPRESS - SQL Server replication scheme without initialize the subscribers with the snapshot? Thaks for reading!
I am experiencing some replication problems. I have a test server with a test database which has been working just fine with some simple Merge Replication. That old server is now been targeted for decommissioning. I have moved the test database to another test server and have set everything conceivable up the same as it was on the prior server but I am experiencing errors that I have not been able to resolve. I am using the same Domain User account with the same privileges on both systems...
The first error I receive in my SQL Server error logs is:

Rapidly followed by the following error message:
