Exporting To Flat File With Date Only

Nov 28, 2007

I am trying to setup ssis data flow package to export a smalldatetime field to just date only. I have changed the dattype to datbase date [DT_DBDATE] AND ALSO [DT_DATE] but it still exports datetime format. What is the best and easiest way to setup flat file connection manager to only export date and not the time. Do I have to add another setup to convert to date only?

Issue Exporting Date Format To A Delimited File.

Jan 17, 2007

In exporting from a OLEDB connection to a flat file.

In the originating table the field for DOB is in a varchar(10) format ex. 01/17/2007. The flat file connection destination is setup as a DT_STR. When you look at the OLEDB connection table preview you see it as 01/17/2007. When it is export to the delimited <CR><LF> <|> pipe delimited the format looks like this 01/17/2007 00:00:00. The issue would be resolved with a right ragged fixed width file. But this is not the requirement for the project format fot the file. I have tried delete and recreating the connections, and even tried doing a data conversation from the OLEDB connection to a char(10). Also, thourgh the transformation services with out any luck. On the flat file data connection I am using expressions to map to a declared variable path and variable name and I listed the expression language below also:

@[User::varPATH]+ @[User::varFileName]+ RIGHT("0" + (DT_WSTR, 2) MONTH( GETDATE() ), 2) + RIGHT("0" + (DT_WSTR, 2) DAY( GETDATE() ), 2) +RIGHT("0" + (DT_WSTR, 4) YEAR( GETDATE() ), 4) + ".txt"

If you can give some help in getting the file to export to a delimited "|" file in the format of "01/17/2007" this would be greatly aprreciated. I also forgot to mention that I have also tried putting a text qualifier in like" on the flat file destination column layout and get the other format still.

Thanks in advance.

Exporting Data - Unable To Append All Data To The Table

Jun 28, 2012

I have a sql server 2008 backend with an Access 2007 frontend database. Each time I export a query I get the following error:

Code:
Microsoft Access was unable to append all the data to the table.

The contents of fields in 0 record(s) were deleted, and 1 record(s) were lost due to key violations.

*If data was deleted, the data you pasted or imported doesn't match the field data types or the FieldSize property in the destination table.
*If records were lost, either the records you pasted contain primary key values that already exist in the destination table, or they violate referential integrity rules for a relationship defined between tables. Do you want to proceed anyway?

I don't know what if anything is actually missing because of the amount of data is more thant 6000 records. It seems everything exported but I would have to comb through the data to be sure.

Append Data To A Flat File

Nov 20, 2007

Hello,

I was wondering if there was a way for me to append data to a flat file. The reason why i ask this is because i need to create a header for the report that i am exporting.

The way i imagined this working would to be create a dts that would export the header information to a flat file and the create another dts to export the report data and appensd it to the same file that the header dts created. This might not be the correct approach so i was hoping i could get some guidance of how i can accomplish this.

I am using SQL Server 2000.

Thank you!

Cant Append Multiple Diff Backups To Same File?..

Aug 9, 2007

I run two different types of backups on the same database.

A monthly full and nightly diffs appending to the same full file - file 'A'

A weekly full with 10 min trans log backups appending to same file - file 'B'- during working hours.

2 strategies, 2 backup files.

These are new strats that have gone live this week - tuesday in fact. The monthly and weekly both ran fine on tuesday as did the nightly diff and all the TS backups througout the day. last night - Weds - the nightly diff failed with the following error:

"

Executed as user: <USERNAME>. Cannot perform a differential backup for database "objectstore", because a current database backup does not exist. Perform a full database backup by reissuing BACKUP DATABASE, omitting the WITH DIFFERENTIAL option. [SQLSTATE 42000] (Error 3035) BACKUP DATABASE is terminating abnormally. [SQLSTATE 42000] (Error 3013). The step failed.

"

Whilst the error is perfectly legible I dont understand what its implying - cant I add multiple Diff backups to the same full backup OR is my weekly / 10 mins on the same database (but to a diff backup file) ballsing things up for me somehow? If this is the case how come everything ran fine on tuesday night?

Any help gets beers.

Using SQL To Append Records To A Table From A Flat File Using DTS

Aug 4, 2006

What I would LIKE to do is noted in the subject line. What I'm findingis that "edit SQL" appears to only be an option if I am creating atable. If I select "append to" the option to edit SQL shades itself asunavailable. The reason I'd like this is that there is a datum in the flat file thatindicates whether that record should be appended to that table notedabove. There are other ways of dealing with this "problem" but it wouldbe nice to be able to control it using SQL, in the DTS import/exportwizard.If the source of my data is an SQL table, I can generate an SQL queryto specify what fields to import in an append, to check for existingvalues, etc...Is there a way around this? I can reserve a table for data transfers, regularly overwrite it with new data from text file inputs, and use SQLto insert select fields from that transfer table to other databasetables. (From this "transfer" table, data needs to be inserted intofour separate tables in our database).I hope this is clear. If it CAN'T be done this way, it's okay...just alittle ugly with the need to re-create the transfer table.

How To Append Data To A Destination Flat File Without Appending The Column Names Again

Mar 13, 2008

Hello guys,

here is my issue.

I created a ssis package which exports the data from oledb source to flat file (csv format). For this i have OLEDB source and Flat File as destination. I generate the file and filename dynamically with the column names in the first row. So if the dynamically generated file name already exists , then i want to append the data in the same existing file. But I dont want to append the column names again. I just want to append the rows to the existing rows.

so lets say first time i generate a file called File1_3132008.csv.

Col1, Col2
1,2
3,4

After some days if my ssis package generates the same file name i.e. File1_3132008.csv, this time i just want to append the rows to the existing file. So the file should look like this-
Col1, Col21,23,45,67,8

But instead my file looks like this if i set Overwrite propery to false

Col1,Col2
1,2
3,4
Col1,Col2
5,6
7,8

Can anyone help me to get the file as shown in the highlighed

Any help would be appreciated .

Thanks

Exporting Dates To Excel As Date Format

Jan 12, 2007

Hi,

I'm currently having problems exporting formatted dates from reporting services 2005 to excel.

Basically what I require is a way to format a date in reporting services so that it only shows the date without the time (preferably british format) and when it is exported to excel it is still formatted as a date.

This is so the user can sort the data file via date, I appreciate it is easy to select the column and format the cells but i would prefer to have a 'cleaner' solution to this problem which avoids the need for users to be formatting exported reports.

Originally I was formatting the dates as convert(varchar,@date,103) in the SP which converts it to a character string and excel picks this up as a character as would be expected. So I changed this to a date and set about trying to format the date in Reporting Services, so far i've been unsuccesfull using cdate (brings back the time) and format as it again converts it to a character string.

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated,

R

Exporting To File Using BIDS

Nov 5, 2007

Hi guys

I am trying to create a package in BIDS that reads data from a table and exports it into a flat file (.csv).
The file needs to have a row for the header and a row representing the column names as well as the data rows.
My problem is:
1.I need to add a value in the header row that is a count of all the data rows.
2. I need to add the year and period based on the year and period in the data rows. (the year and period will always be the same in the data rows)

below is an example of what I want the file to look like (it is a delimited file)

1;Varese;O027200702ACT;F1_V4;BATCH;2326;test company
CUSTOMER_ID;BU_ID;YEAR_ID;PERIOD_ID;ACTIVITY_ID;SCENARIO_ID;ACCOUNT_ID;DATA_UNIT_ID;DATA_VALUE
000001;ZA01000001;2007;2;01;1;70;ZAR;.04
000001;ZA01000001;2007;2;01;1;912;ZAR;6080374
000001;ZA01000001;2007;2;01;1;941;ZAR;-.16

The value in bold represent the values that i want dynamically updated...

200702 represents a concatenation of the year and period

2326 represents the number of data rows

Thanks a mill!

Mike

Exporting To Excel - File Gets Too Big

Sep 25, 2007

Hi,

I have a report returning about 50000 rows, when i export this into excel it takes a few minutes and the file size is about 13MB, When i try to open up a 13mb file it is so slow...it is better for me to execute the dataset in SQL analyser and copy the results directly into excel whereby the file is 8mb and opens up also instantly...

My exported version is just data and no graphics however the page appears to be ''white'' although i set the fill in excel to transparent...maybe this is making the file hard to open...

Anybody have problems with exporting to excel and actually able to use it without running into long delays due to the file size...what can i do to fix this

Issues Exporting To CSV File

Feb 19, 2008

Hi,
I have 2 very similar copies of a report. The only difference between them is that they point to different datasources. The report is fairly simple and contains a table with a group header and a detail row. Report A exports fine, however Report B does not export the values of the header row. I've tried a variety of output options to try to get the value in the export file, but all I get is textbox1, textbox2, etc. Does anyone have any ideas on what else I can check? This one report is the only one that is giving me trouble! Thanks in advance!!
