Error Message Only Members Of Sysadmin Role Are Allowed To Update .....

Mar 7, 2007

Question to those who may have had this same error- it seems that I am not able to delete some of the reports that I have created. This just started happening recently and according to our system admin nothing has changed as far as permissions are concernced. We installed SP2 the other day and I was wondering if this could have anything to do with the error message below

by the way I am a member of the sysadmin group

thanks in advance

'sysadmin Fixed Server Role' Error When Running A SQL Trace

Apr 20, 2006

Hi there. I work in a support department and on great occasion (such as this morning), I am RASd in to a client and try running a SQL trace, only to receive an error when setting it up, 'In order to run a trace against SQL Server you have to be amember of sysadmin fixed server role.'

Today, I even called their DBA and asked him if he could set our userid up with the proper permissions to all us to run traces (I'm debugging a RTE). He stated that he was unfamiliar with the error and didn't know where to assign us to resolve this problem.

Does anyone know how to resolve this?
Many thx.

FTP Connection Problem With The Password Was Not Allowed Error Message

Mar 19, 2007

Hi

I have a simple FTP task that I am trying to connect to an FTP server. I can test the connection fine, however, when I try and execute the package from Visual Studio 2005 I get the "The Password was not allowed" message. I have found some threads that mention setting the protection level on the package to EncryptSensitiveWithPassword, however, I still get the same message appearing.

Has anyone any idea as to what is causing this and how I can get around it

Thanks

SECURITY - Sysadmin Role

Feb 11, 2004

Hi all,

Our SQL2000 server now allows all member of the Windows 2000 local administrators group log in with SysAdmin role.

I only want couple of people with sysadmin role. What should I do
to prevent that. I was told once that I should delete the
BUILTINAdministrator ID and manually add each window login ID
to SQL server. Am I on the right track?

Thank you for your help.

Sysadmin Role Problem

Oct 5, 2007

We set up a SQL Server 2005 box. When we set it up we did it with windows authentication, so the sa account is disabled. After everything was set up we were going to do some locking down. We added a domain account and gave it sysadmin rights. Next we went in to the sysadmin role and deleted the builtin/administrators group. This deleted all users except for the sa account. The sa account is disabled and we don't have a password for it. Not sure what to do next. Is there anyway to salvage this without have to completely reinstall? I can't enable sa because it says I don't have the rights, I can't add anyone to the sysadmin role because I don't have the rights. Why did it delete my domain account in the first place?

Sysadmin Role - Easy Question

May 17, 2007

Alright, this should be a simple question, but I don't know the answer.

I created a group in our Active Directory, and added myself and another member of my team to the group. I then went into SQL 2005 management studio and added the group as a new login, and gave the group the sysadmin role.

The idea is for us to be able to connect with Windows Security to do administrative tasks on the server versus logging in with SA.

The problem, is that we cannot connect. It does not allow us to login. Do I have to do mappings for each database too?

Can't Read Tables If Not In Sysadmin Server Role

Jan 16, 2008

Listed below are some basic info about my application.

.net 2.0 web application

SQL 2000 database

Single sign-on. Windows Authentication with impersonate set to true in web.config:

<authentication mode="Windows"/>

<identity impersonate="true"/>

Connection String in web.config: <add name="conn" connectionString="Data Source=MyRemoteSeverName;Initial Catalog=MyDBName;Integrated Security=SSPI; " providerName="System.Data.SqlClient;"/>

The problem I'm having now is that any users that are not in the sysadmin server role can't read any table. Say if I have 2 users:

Domain1User1 ( in db_datareader and db_datawriter Database Role, no sever role assigned)
Domain1User2 ( in db_datareader and db_datawriter Database Role, sysadmin Server Role)

Here is what's expected to happen if everything goes well.

A list of customers ( first name, last name, age, etc) in a gridview should show up after login.

After both users logged in, Domain1User1 received an exception message of "Object reference not set to an instance of an object".

Domain1User2, however, was able to see the list.

I checked SQL Server Logs, and found 2 items:
Login succeeded for user 'Domain1User1' ... Connection TRUSTED
Login succeeded for user 'Domain1User2' ... Connection TRUSTED.
Based on the log file, it appears that both users had good connections to the database. Then why is it that User1, which is not in sysadmin Server Role, was not allowed to make a query?

Now if I assign sysadmin Server Role to Domain1User1 as well, the User1 will be able to see the list without seeing the exception.

Can someone shed some light for me please ?

SQL Security :: Sysadmin Role Not Taking Effect For Windows User?

Aug 11, 2015

My company has a Windows 2008 R2 server which is running SQL Server v11.0.5058. This server was previously running SQL Server 2008 and was recently upgraded. Since the upgrade I have noticed that when I connect to this server using SSMS and Windows authentication it seems as though I have a limited user context as I cannot see SQL Agent in the server tree at all and underneath the server security > logins folder I can only see the sa and SQL Server Windows service accounts (there are many more).

If I connect to the server using SSMS and the sa credential then I can see everything I expect to be able to see as a sysadmin.

I tried connecting as sa, then deleting my Windows AD account from the security > logins folder and reading my Windows AD account with the sysadmin role however this yielded the same result, when I connect using Windows authentication I still appear to be in a limited user context.

We have several other SQL 2008 / 2012 servers within our organization and all of them appear to be working fine / none of them exhibit this problem.

Snaphot Fails Unless Sysadmin Fixed Server Role Permission Granted

Jan 16, 2007

Edition: SQL Server 2005 Standard
I am trying to take a snapshot of a database for use in a publication. The account under which the snapshot agent is running is set to have the db_owner role for the database and have write access to the snapshot share.

I can not get the snapshot to run unless the account under which the snapshot agent is running is granted the sysadmin fixed server role. Because of the security implications of this, I don't want to grant these permissions.

As far as I am concerned, the minimum requirements for the snapshot account have been met and I have tried every other alternate that I can think of. I've checked MSDN and the newsgroups but I still have not solved the problem.

The error that I get when I run the snapshot.exe from the command line is:
The remote server "TURING" does not exist, or has not been designated as a valid Publisher, or you may not have permission to see available Publishers.

This error message has now inexplicably changed to:
You do not have sufficient permissions to run the command...

Any ideas? Thanks.

Getting An Access Not Allowed Message When Trying To Create A DB Connection To The Northwind DB In VB Studio 2008

Feb 4, 2008

I recently installed VB Studio Express 2008, which also installed SQL Server Compact Edition. I was going thro the online tutorial from Microsoft, which tells you to create a connection to the Northwind DB. But, when I tried to connect, I get an error message saying access is not allowed. Note that the is running under Vista Home Premium. I have tried searching for an answer to this question, but have not found an answer that solves my problem. The closest was a similar problem for a C# application running in Internet Explorer, and the answer for that one was to change security settings in IE. But, for this demo, IE was not involved.

Error Message With Recordset.Update

Hi,

I am converting a VB6 application to C# using ADO. I have the following code:

private ADODB.Connection cn = new ADODB.Connection();
private ADODB.Recordset rs = new ADODB.Recordset();

private connectionString = "Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0; Data source= " + stdDir;
strClientSQL = "SELECT * FROM Client ORDER BY casename, renldate, product, fundingcode";

cn.CursorLocation = ADODB.CursorLocationEnum.adUseClient;
cn.Open(Utilities.connectionString,null,null,0);

rs.CursorLocation = ADODB.CursorLocationEnum.adUseServer;
rs.Open(strClientSQL,cn, ADODB.CursorTypeEnum.adOpenStatic, ADODB.LockTypeEnum.adLockOptimistic,-1);
rs.Fields["CaseName"].Value = this.txtCaseName.Text;

rs.Fields["CaseNo"].Value = this.txtCaseNumber.Text;

rs.Update();

When I try to compile and run it I get the following error message:
"No overload for method 'Update' takes '0' arguments"

I am not sure if I need to enter information in the update command or do something else. This seems pretty straight forward but I can't figure out how to do it. Can someone please help me?

Thanks,

Anyone know what this message means?

I have searched SQL Server Books On-Line and been unable to find a list of Sql err numbers. Either I have missed the obvious or Books On-Line has missed the obvious.

Analysis :: Calculate Members At Certain Level In One Hierarchy As Sum Of Corresponding Members At A Certain Level

Jun 4, 2015

Problem setting is a geography dimension with multiple user defined hierarchies in SSAS 2008.

Ex.:
Hierarchy 1 (political territory): level 6 --> level 5 --> level 4 --> level 3 (state) --> level 2 --> level 1
Hierarchy 2 (sales territory): level 4 --> level 3 --> level 2 (sales region) --> level 1
...
Hierarchy 9

The relationship between state and sales region is n:1, i.e. one state belongs to exactly one sales region, and one sales region can consists of one or multiple states. Unfortunatly I can't define this attribute relationsship in the dimension because it would lead to a diamond-shaped relationsship without a user-defined-hierarchy to back it up. So far that isn't much of a problem, user don't drill down from sales region to state. But now I want to define a calculated member that multiplies a measure from the main measure group with another measure from a weighting factor measure group at the state level and above. The granularity attribute of the geography dimension in the dimension usage tab of the weighting factor measuregroup is the state.

So far what I've got is:

CREATE MEMBER Currentcube.Measures.[weighted measure state and above] AS NULL;
SCOPE (Measures.[weighted measure state and above],
Descendants(geography.[political territory].[all member],3,SELF_AND_BEFORE),
Descendants(geography.[salesterritory].[all member],2,SELF_AND_BEFORE),
... Descendants(geography.[hierarchy 9].[all member],1,SELF_AND_BEFORE)); this = sum(existing(geography.[political territory].state.members), measures.[main measure group measure] * measures.[weighting measure group measure]);END SCOPE;

This works from a functional point of view, but is rather slow when querying any other hierarchy than the political territory hierarchy, because SSAS first goes down from the state level to the key attribute of the geography dimension, and then aggregates from there to the sales region.In other words, I want SSAS to resolve the relationsship (which state belongs to which sales region) through the dimension, and not through the fact, and apply the calculation afterwards. Like some kind of currency conversion, but only from a certain level upwards.

SQL Server 2005 Remote Connection Not Allowed Error 26

Jan 11, 2008

Help! My web-application worked fine last week. I have made some enhancements and it still works fine when I test in locally in VS 2005 and from IIS when I allow unauthenticated users (by commenting out "<deny users="?"/>" in my web.config. However, with not allowing unauthenticated users, I get redirected to a login application (which also worked last week), where I supply one of several user names and passwords and it is supposed to redirect me back to my default.aspx page. Only, now it is taking the authentication parameters from the login screen but is not redirecting me back to my app's page and instead is putting up this Error 26 that states SQL Server 2005 does not allow remote connections.
The included stack trace has no information about what server it seems to be trying to connect with, but the strangest thing about it is I/we are not using SQL Server 2005 yet (still a future upgrade not too far off). The application database, the authentication aspnetdb database, and the Session aspstate database are all on the same SQL Server 2000 managed server. And, these were all working last week (and are all accessible). I have not changed any connection strings and as I said, it works fine without the loging in part both locally and from IIS. It is only when using the Login in application, which is working with other apps and the developer insists the problem has to in my application (after all the first line of the error message states: Server Error in '/deployment1' Application, which is my app!)
I am lost in finding the culprit, can someone please give me some ideas?

[XML Task] Error: An Error Occurred With The Following Error Message: There Are Multiple Root Elements.

Aug 18, 2006

I'm trying to use an XML Task to do a simple XSLT operation, but it fails with this error message:

[XML Task] Error: An error occurred with the following error message: "There are multiple root elements. Line 5, position 2.".

The source XML file validates fine and I've successfully used it as the XML Source in a data flow task to load some SQL Server tables. It has very few line breaks, so the first 5 lines are pretty long: almost 4000 characters, including 34 start-tags, 19 end-tags, and 2 empty element tags. Here's the very beginning of it:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<ESDU releaselevel="2006-02" createdate="26 May 2006"><package id="1" title="_standard" shorttitle="_standard" filename="pk_stan" supplementdate="01/05/2005" supplementlevel="1">
<![CDATA[This package contains the standard ESDU Series.]]>

There is only 1 ESDU root element and only 1 package element.

Of course, the XSLT stylesheet is also an XML document in its own right. I specify it directly in the XML Task:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>

<xsl:stylesheet version="1.0" xmlns:xsl="http://www.w3.org/1999/XSL/Transform"/>

<xsl:template name="identity" match="@*|node()">
<xsl:copy>
<xsl:apply-templates select="@*|node()"/>
</xsl:copy>
</xsl:template>

<xsl:template match="kw">
<xsl:copy>
<xsl:apply-templates select="@*"/>
<xsl:attribute name="ihs_cats_seq" select="position()"/>
<xsl:apply-templates select="node()"/>
</xsl:copy>
</xsl:template>

</xsl:stylesheet>

Its 5th line is the first xsl:template element.

What is going on here? I do not see multiple root elements in either the XML document or the XSLT stylesheet.

Thanks!

SP Error When Trying To Create User And Assign A Role

Report Model - No Build Because Of Error In Role

May 8, 2007

Hi,

I removed a role in the datasourceview of a datamodel. Later I removed the role in the reportmodel. There are always two roles for one relation. Now I only have one role left and I can't delete it anymore.

This is the error I get when building the project.

Error 2 The RelatedRoleID property of the Role 'invoicelineid' refers to the Role 'Gd1b03590-f98b-46aa-945d-c90ccd5d6028', which is not in the same SemanticModel as the Role 'invoicelineid'. Max generiek.smdl 0 0

When I try to remove the role I'll get an error : object reference not set to an instance of an object.

If I look at the properties of the role I see that when I open 'related role' there is nothing in it, except an ID: Gd1b03590-f98b-46aa-945d-c90ccd5d6028 and as name: Object reference not set to an instance of an object.

I also tried to remove the whole entity but that resulted in the same error. It's not an option for mee to remove the whole model and autogenerate it again, but there is too much work in it already.

If I try to remove this thing in the xml itself it gives other errors and the model won't load anymore.

I hope somebody has a solution for this.

thanks in advance,

Julian Kooiker
