CLR Trigger -&&> Send Insert/Update/Delete Message To Windows Service

Feb 1, 2007

Hi,

I have an c# windows service, which is running on the same machine where my mssql server is installed. This service must be informed for each insert/update/delete event on one specific table.

My idea was to create an CLR Trigger for this table which can communicate with this service via .NET remoting. But the problem is, that the system.runtime.remoting assembly is not integrated within the mssql clr enviroment => i can't use remoting.

Are there any other idea's how can i solve this?

Best regards,
Thomas

Error 80072F76 28635 Requested Header Not Found

Oct 30, 2006

I am trying to install a SQL server 2005 database to merge with a sql mobile database on an emulator or pda.

I have installed SQL server 2005 and a copied an existing database and created the publications subscriptions that worked on another machine. As far as I can tell everything is ok with the installation. I can browse the url of the virtual directory ie.sqlcesa30.dll on the database server and from the pda emulator so I'm satisfied that part of the comms is OK.

Using the ?diagnostics feature indicates everything is OK

When I come the actually merge the databases I get error number 80072f76 (23635) with a message that the header is corrupt or missing. The odd thing is that this message refers to sql ce 2000, which is n't installed and that i'm not trying to use.

The application on the PDA that I'm using to carry out the merge worked ok on another system, I've done all the obvious things like check the database server name and ip address, the privaledges for the iusr_ and am now stuck.

Can anyone point me in the right direction or tell me what the 'header' in the error message refers to.

Thanks

Error Message With Recordset.Update

Feb 9, 2007

Hi,

I am converting a VB6 application to C# using ADO. I have the following code:

private ADODB.Connection cn = new ADODB.Connection();
private ADODB.Recordset rs = new ADODB.Recordset();

private connectionString = "Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0; Data source= " + stdDir;
strClientSQL = "SELECT * FROM Client ORDER BY casename, renldate, product, fundingcode";

cn.CursorLocation = ADODB.CursorLocationEnum.adUseClient;
cn.Open(Utilities.connectionString,null,null,0);

rs.CursorLocation = ADODB.CursorLocationEnum.adUseServer;
rs.Open(strClientSQL,cn, ADODB.CursorTypeEnum.adOpenStatic, ADODB.LockTypeEnum.adLockOptimistic,-1);
rs.Fields["CaseName"].Value = this.txtCaseName.Text;

rs.Fields["CaseNo"].Value = this.txtCaseNumber.Text;

rs.Update();

When I try to compile and run it I get the following error message:
"No overload for method 'Update' takes '0' arguments"

I am not sure if I need to enter information in the update command or do something else. This seems pretty straight forward but I can't figure out how to do it. Can someone please help me?

Thanks,

Mark

Could Not Obtain Information About Windows NT Group/user .......error Code 0x534...

Jul 10, 2006

== I asked this question directly to Remus and wanted to share the response to all of those people using this forum ==
We recently moved our database server from SQL Server 2000 to SQL Server 2005. All applications on our intranet development server stay the same [VS.NET 2003], but recently resources in our Dev DB server ran out of space. While doing a thorough investigation, I noticed ERRORLOG file was occupying about 35 Gig of HDD space. I immediately checked SQL Server error log and noticed an entry which says €“

The activated proc [dbo].[SqlQueryNotificationStoredProcedure-5eaf8465-d0cb-4be7-93b6-44bb979dd41c] running on queue BW_Content.dbo.SqlQueryNotificationService-5eaf8465-d0cb-4be7-93b6-44bb979dd41c output the following: 'Could not obtain information about Windows NT group/user 'BWCINCHoffK', error code 0x534.'
===========================================================================================

What is this SqlQueryNotificationService in my database? Is it a SQL Server 2005 thing? Why the same kind of stored procedure does not exist in other databases, but BW_Content? This error is getting repeated most probably every second and is filling up our server.
I believe our corporate IT people removed our domain accounts from BWCINC domain to BWCORP domain and probably some application which is using BWCINCHoffK credential is getting errored out. I tried to locate this application and was not successful.
Is there anyway that I can stop this ERRORLOG from growing? How can I delete these log entries so that I can make space on our Hard Drive? Is there an easy way in SQL Server 2005 to locate which application is creating this error?
Response from Remus:
The 'SqlQueryNotificationService-...' is the service created by SqlDependency when you call SqlDependency.Start (). The problem you describe appears because the 'dbo' user of the database is mapped to the login that originally created this database. The SqlDependency created queue has an EXECUTE AS OWNER clause, owner is 'dbo' and therefore this is equivalent to an EXECUTE AS USER = 'dbo'. The error you see is reported by the domain controller when asked to give information about the original account 'dbo' mapps to (that is, BWCINCHoffK'): Error code: (Win32) 0x534 (1332) - No mapping between account names and security IDs was done.

To solve the issue, change 'dbo' to match a correct login, using either sp_changedbowner or ALTER AUTHORIZATION ON DATABASE::[dbname] TO [somavalidlogin]
To find the databases that have this problem, run this query:

select name, suser_sname(owner_sid) from sys.databases
The databses that have the problem will show NULL on the second column.
A similar problem is described here: http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=65711&SiteID=1

To remove the entries, use sp_cycle_errorlog to force a new errorlog file, then delete the huge log file.
---------------------------------------

I executed ALTER AUTHORIZATION ON DATABASE::[BW_Content] TO [sa];

I got this error in SQL Error Log once and the growth of ERRORLOG was stopped.

Question to those who may have had this same error- it seems that I am not able to delete some of the reports that I have created. This just started happening recently and according to our system admin nothing has changed as far as permissions are concernced. We installed SP2 the other day and I was wondering if this could have anything to do with the error message below

by the way I am a member of the sysadmin group

thanks in advance

Error Incorrect Syntax Near '('. When Doing Update() From Code, VB

Apr 22, 2007

Hi all
My error is as follows: Incorrect syntax near '('.Line 27:         acceptOrDeclineFriendship.UpdateParameters.Add("Response", answer)Line 28:         acceptOrDeclineFriendship.UpdateParameters.Add("FriendID", friend_id)Line 29:         acceptOrDeclineFriendship.Update()Line 30: Line 31:     End Sub
Bear with me... I have a page where i use a repeater control to list users who have requested to be friends with the currently online user. The 'getFriendRequests' query looks like this:
SelectCommand="SELECT * FROM Friends, UserDetails WHERE (Friends.UserID = UserDetails.UserID) AND (FriendID = @UserID) AND (ApprovedByFriend = 'False') ORDER BY Friends.Requested DESC">This works.
Within each repeater template, there are 2 buttons, 'Accept' or 'Decline', like this: <asp:Repeater ID="Repeater1" runat="server" DataSourceID="getFriendRequests">
<ItemTemplate>
(other stuff like avatar and username etc)
<asp:Button ID="accept" runat="server" Text="Accept" commandName="Accept" commandArgument='<%#Eval("UserID")%>' onCommand="Accept_Decline_Friends"/>
<asp:Button ID="decline" runat="server" Text="Decline" commandName="Decline" commandArgument='<%#Eval("UserID")%>' onCommand="Accept_Decline_Friends"/>
</ItemTemplate>
</asp:Repeater>
The code-behind (VB) which deals with this is as follows: Protected Sub Accept_Decline_Friends(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As CommandEventArgs)

'retrieve id of requestee and the answer accept/decline
Dim friend_id As String = e.CommandArgument.ToString
Dim answer As String = e.CommandName.ToString

'add the parameters
acceptOrDeclineFriendship.UpdateParameters.Add("Response", answer)
acceptOrDeclineFriendship.UpdateParameters.Add("FriendID", friend_id)
acceptOrDeclineFriendship.Update()

End Sub
Since the buttons are being created dynamically, this is how i track 1. the response from the currently logged in user 'Accept/Decline' and 2. who they are responding to (by their uniqueid)
This relates to a sqlDataSource on my .aspx page like this: <!---- update query when user has accepted the friendship ---->
<asp:SqlDataSource ID="acceptOrDeclineFriendship" runat="server" ConnectionString="<%$ xxx %>"
UpdateCommand="UPDATE Friends SET (ApprovedByFriend = @Response) WHERE (FriendID = @UserID) AND (UserID = @FriendID)">
<UpdateParameters>
<asp:ControlParameter Name="UserID" ControlID="userIdValue" />
</UpdateParameters>
</asp:SqlDataSource>
 Which is meant to update my 'Friends' table to show that 'ApprovedByFriend' (the logged in user) is either 'Accept' or 'Decline', and record who's request was responded to.
I hope this is clear, just trying to suppy all of the information! The error appears to be saying that I have an issue with my code-behind, where i am telling the sqlDataSource above to UPDATE. What I can say is that for each button in the repeater, the 2 variables 'friend_id' and 'answer' are picking up the correct values.
Can anyone see any obvious problems here? Any help is very much appreciated as i am well and truley stuck!

SSIS Error Code DTS_E_OLEDBERROR. An OLE DB Error Has Occurred. Error Code: 0x8000FFFF.

Jan 28, 2008

Hi All,

Recently in an SSIS package I am getting the following error for a particular Data flow task.

Error: 2008-01-25 12:01:48.58

Code: 0xC0202009

Source: Import Datasynapse Data User Events Source [3017]

Description: SSIS Error Code DTS_E_OLEDBERROR. An OLE DB error has occurred. Error code: 0x8000FFFF.

End Error

Error: 2008-01-25 12:01:48.73

Code: 0xC004701A

Source: Import Datasynapse Data DTS.Pipeline

Description: component "User Events Source" (3017) failed the pre-execute phase and returned error code 0xC0202009.

End Error

Our guess is when the data size of User Events table is more it throws this error. If we try to transfer small subset of data it succeeds. What could be reason for this error?

Since this is very urgent, immediate response would be very much appreciated.

Thanks & Regards,
Prakash Srinivasan

Stored Proc Won't Update From C# .NET Code, But Will Update When Testing On Its Own.

Jul 23, 2006

I'm having a strange problem that I can't figure out. I have an SQL stored procedure that updates a small database table. When testing the Stored Procedure from the Server Explorer, it works fine. However, when I run the C# code that's supposed to use it, the data doesn't get saved. The C# code seems to run correctly and the parameters that are passed to the SP seem to be okay. No exceptions are thrown.
The C# code:
   SqlConnection conn = new SqlConnection(ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings["touristsConnectionString"].ConnectionString);
SqlCommand cmd = new SqlCommand("fort_SaveRedirectURL", conn);
cmd.CommandType = CommandType.StoredProcedure;
Label accomIdLabel = (Label)DetailsView1.FindControl("lblID");
int accomId = Convert.ToInt32(accomIdLabel.Text);
cmd.Parameters.Add("@accomId", SqlDbType.Int).Value = accomId;
cmd.Parameters.Add("@path", SqlDbType.VarChar, 250).Value = GeneratePath();
try
{
conn.Open();
cmd.ExecuteNonQuery();
}
catch(Exception ex)
{
throw ex;
}
finally
{
conn.Close();
}
 The Stored Procedure:
  ALTER PROCEDURE developers.fort_SaveRedirectURL
(
@accomId int,
@path varchar(250)
)
AS
DECLARE
@enabled bit,
@oldpath varchar(250)

/* Ensure that the accommodation has been enabled */
SELECT @enabled = enabled FROM Experimental_Accommodation
WHERE Experimental_Accommodation.id = @accomId

IF (@enabled = 1)
BEGIN
/* Now check if a path already exists */
SELECT @oldpath = oldpath FROM Experimental_Adpages_Redirect
WHERE Experimental_Adpages_Redirect.accom_id = @accomId

IF @oldpath IS NULL
BEGIN
/* If Path already exists then we should keep the existing URL */
/* Otherwise, we need to insert a new one */
INSERT INTO Experimental_Adpages_Redirect
(oldpath, accom_id)
VALUES (@path,@accomId)
END
END

[XML Task] Error: An Error Occurred With The Following Error Message: There Are Multiple Root Elements.

Aug 18, 2006

I'm trying to use an XML Task to do a simple XSLT operation, but it fails with this error message:

[XML Task] Error: An error occurred with the following error message: "There are multiple root elements. Line 5, position 2.".

The source XML file validates fine and I've successfully used it as the XML Source in a data flow task to load some SQL Server tables. It has very few line breaks, so the first 5 lines are pretty long: almost 4000 characters, including 34 start-tags, 19 end-tags, and 2 empty element tags. Here's the very beginning of it:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<ESDU releaselevel="2006-02" createdate="26 May 2006"><package id="1" title="_standard" shorttitle="_standard" filename="pk_stan" supplementdate="01/05/2005" supplementlevel="1"><abstract><![CDATA[This package contains the standard ESDU Series.]]></abstract>

There is only 1 ESDU root element and only 1 package element.

Of course, the XSLT stylesheet is also an XML document in its own right. I specify it directly in the XML Task:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>

<xsl:stylesheet version="1.0" xmlns:xsl="http://www.w3.org/1999/XSL/Transform"/>

<xsl:template name="identity" match="@*|node()">
<xsl:copy>
<xsl:apply-templates select="@*|node()"/>
</xsl:copy>
</xsl:template>

<xsl:template match="kw">
<xsl:copy>
<xsl:apply-templates select="@*"/>
<xsl:attribute name="ihs_cats_seq" select="position()"/>
<xsl:apply-templates select="node()"/>
</xsl:copy>
</xsl:template>

</xsl:stylesheet>

Its 5th line is the first xsl:template element.

What is going on here? I do not see multiple root elements in either the XML document or the XSLT stylesheet.

Thanks!

Error While Calling The Roles.AddUserToRole (error Message: Cannot Resolve Collation Conflict For Equal To Operation)

Feb 5, 2006

Hi, I have developed a website in asp.net 2. I have tester it and it is working fine on my computer but when I have uploaded it to my server I'm getting an error message when the user signup. The error occurs when I'm setting the user role to 'members'.

Error line > Roles.AddUserToRole(user.UserName, "members")

The strage thig is that it is working on my computer but not on the server. My home computer and the server are running the same software versions and the website database is the same as well.

To double check that my code is not generating the error I have lonched 'SQL Query Analizer' and executed the folowing code on my database:
NOTE: In my database I have create the user “teeluk12 and a role “members

aspnet_UsersInRoles_AddUsersToRoles "/", "teeluk12", "members", "5/02/2006 4:44:33 pm"

Once again the code is working on my home computer but not on the server. On the server I'm getting the following error:

Server: Msg 446, Level 16, State 9, Procedure aspnet_UsersInRoles_AddUsersToRoles, Line 76
Cannot resolve collation conflict for equal to operation.

Does anybody know what could cause the error?
Could it be some permissions that I didn't set on my server?

Thanks for my help and suggestions...

SQL Express And Windows Update

Jan 30, 2007

Will SQL Express SP2 automatically come down in the Windows Update Service or will we have to update our users? I seem to remember seeing something somewhere that it will.

Does anyone have a link to an authority or official notice on this?

Thanks,

Pat

Windows Update Broke My IIS!

Apr 14, 2007

I had IIS (7 beta I believe) working perfectly on Vista Home Premier. My web site is Access database driven with a mix of VBscrip and JScript in asp pages.

After a recent Windows update it is now broken! I am getting ODBC errors although I the code I used was working fine before;

strCon = "DRIVER={Microsoft Access Driver (*.mdb)}; DBQ=C:Inetpubwwwrootdatabasesadm1n.mdb"

Is the driver wrong now? The file has not changed location and was working fine before the update.

Has anyone else had this problem and solved it?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Windows Update Fails And Won't Go Away

Sep 12, 2007

I had installed SQL Server 2005 developer on my machine (Vista 64-bit) prior to installing Visual Studio 2005. When I installed VS, I used the default installation, which installed SQL Server Express. Soon thereafter, I started getting notifications in Windows Update about an update to SP2. However, when I try to install it, it fails with "Code 7367", and provides no other useful information. I tried downloading SQL Server Express SP2 myself but it would not let me update the existing instance on my machine. So I totally removed the instance from my machine through add/remove. However, I restarted and the update is still showing up and won't go away!! Does anybody have any ideas of getting this problem?

Apr 18, 2008

 Hi I and using gridview. And binding the data in the code behind.I need to use update command in code behind. How do I achieve this?  I  protected void lookUP (object sender, EventArgs e)
{
string strSql, strConn;

System.Text.StringBuilder whereClause = new System.Text.StringBuilder();

strConn = ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings["drake_CSMConnectionString1"].ConnectionString;

SqlConnection Conn = new SqlConnection(strConn);

if (newClientName.Text != "")
whereClause.Append("'" + newClientName.Text + "'");

strSql = "SELECT * FROM [ftsCSM] where [client_name] = " + whereClause.ToString();

SqlDataAdapter dataAdapter = new SqlDataAdapter(strSql, Conn);

DataSet ds2 = new DataSet();

dataAdapter.Fill(ds2, "ftsCSM");

DataTable dataTable2 = ds2.Tables["ftsCSM"];

int totalRec = dataTable2.Rows.Count;

Clients.DataSource = ds2;
Clients.DataBind();

} // end of lookup()

This Code Does Not Update My Database,

Dec 15, 2007

Where am I going wrong? I have no idea where to start to look for any incorrect code because it all looks ok! Please help!!!
I am entering a record into 5 textboxes - I can see the new record when I open the datagrid view, but when I close the programme and reopen it the record disappears, this code looks ok to me so where is it wrong? Obviously the record is not being written to the database so that when I reopen the programme there is nothing to fill the dataset..........any ideas?
Your help is appreciated!!!

Private Sub BtnSave_Click(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles BtnSave.Click

Mainform.SqlConnection1.Open()
Dim TheNewRow As DataRow
TheNewRow = Mainform.Dataset1.Tables("ChartTable").NewRow
TheNewRow("Chart Number") = TB1CN.Text
TheNewRow("Chart Title") = TB2CT.Text
TheNewRow("Edition Date") = TB3ED.Text
TheNewRow("Print Date") = TB4PD.Text
TheNewRow("Edition Number") = TB5EN.Text

Mainform.Dataset1.Tables("ChartTable").Rows.Add(TheNewRow)
Mainform.SqlDataAdapter1.Update(Mainform.Dataset1)
Mainform.SqlConnection1.Close()
Me.Visible = False

End Sub

Code Doesn't Update SDF

May 31, 2008

In the device emulator when it starts I see two records that were added to the SDF in the VS2008 IDE. I added a third record and after tapping on the Save menu my navigation control shows all three records. I then closed the application. I went to Memory and stopped the form. I went to the File Editor and restarted the application. It only showed the original 2 records. In the File Editor I tapped on the SDF to open it in the Query Analyzer. It also only shows the original two records.

The Dataset appears to be updated, but not the bound table in the SDF. Can any one help? Code is below.
bsTEST is the binding SOurce
navTEST is my custom Navigation control

Private Sub HandleMenus(ByVal Sender As Object, ByVal EA As EventArgs) Handles mnuAdd.Click, mnuCancel.Click, mnuSave.Click

With Me

Select Case True

Case Sender Is .mnuAdd

.Menu = .mnuCancelSave

txtLOC.ReadOnly = False

bsTEST.AddNew()

.navTest.Visible = False

Case Sender Is .mnuCancel

.Menu = .mnuMain

txtLOC.ReadOnly = True

With bsTEST

.CancelEdit()

.Position = navTest.CurrentRecord = -1

End With

.navTest.Visible = True

Case Sender Is .mnuSave

.Menu = .mnuMain

txtLOC.ReadOnly = True

With .navTest

.RecordCount += 1

.CurrentRecord = 1

End With

.navTest.Visible = True

bsTEST.EndEdit()

bsTEST.Position = 0

taTEST.Update("Locations")

End Select

End With
