Aug 3, 2015I believe it's called adding it to the context menu.. I saw a registry hack for Windows 8 but i'm not sure how to do it in Windows 10.. I got used to using MSE in Windows 7 so now i'm lost not being able to right click a file to scan it immediately.. how to enable this in W10 Defender?
or should I just dump Defender totally for another Free antivirus? I was using Avast for awhile but MSE was less heavy on the resources so I went with that..
Antivirus :: Windows Defender Keeps Asking To Complete A Scan?
Dec 19, 2015I run a scan but as soon as I have rebooted and within an hour or so it asks me again? I receive the notification in the taskbar and Windows Defender turns orange and states I am unprotected. So far I have completed 3 clean scans today but after a reboot it is as if it does not remember that I have run a scan. I am running the latest Windows 10 pro.

Jan 15, 2016I'm presently using (running) Avast Pro and Malwarebytes Anti-Exploit-Free, with weekly running of CCleaner, Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, and AdwCleaner. I do a lot of browsing and haven't had any problems with this approach. However, I got the hankering to also keep Windows Defender up-to-date and to occasionally run its scan just to see see if anything comes up.
So, I go to WD with the expectation that it is turned off and find that it may not be. I would go to update&security>windows defender and find, to my surprise, that real-time protection and cloud based protection are turned on, but grayed out. Furthermore, when scrolling to the bottom of the screen and clicking Open Windows Defender, I get the message that "WD is turned off and not monitoring the computer." Antivirus :: Windows Defender Scan Type Index
Jan 5, 2016I found out how to see the event logs for Windows Defender scans from a thread on eightforums ("Windows Defender - where are the Scan Results?"). I just ran a full scan, but Windows Defender apparently ran a quick scan afterwards, so there is no confirmation on the WD user interface that the full scan completed. So following the advice in that other thread, I looked at the WD log in the Event Viewer. I see in the Operational listing two events with Event ID 1000, which seems to correspond to a scan starting, and two with Event ID 1001, which corresponds to a scan finishing (see below). The two 1000 events and the two 1001 events differ from each other in the "Scan Type Index" visible in the Details view of each event, which is "1" for one pair of 1000 and 1001 and "2" for the other. The times are consistent with the 1000/1001 pair for Scan Type Index 2 being the full scan and the pair with Scan Type Index 1 being the subsequent quick scan. Am I correct that Scan Type Index 1 is a quick scan and Scan Type Index 2 is a full scan? Is there some place where the various event type codes, etc are described?

Feb 10, 2016How to stop this damn notification from popping up every five minutes? I've tried everything. I've let it scan my computer (both quick-scan and full-scan), but within five minutes the notification pops back up again. I've looked online and found that it can be down to a certain setting in CCleaner, I use CCleaner but the option that all the solutions say to untick isn't present in the latest versions.
I'm running Windows 10 64bit.

Feb 10, 2016I have a USB flash drive which for some reason is formatted with an active partition.
I usually use Minitool Partition Wizard to set a partition as inactive but for some reason it doesn't work on this flash drive. I also tried booting from the Partition Wizard boot disk but that won't set the partition inactive either. I even deleted the partition and reformatted the flash drive but it popped up as active again!
How can I force the partition to be set inactive? Note it's quite an old USB flash drive so I'm wondering if there something in the hardware which stops it being set inactive?

Oct 19, 2015I have recently bought a 32gb micro sd card from eBay and was wondering if there is some kind of check I can do to make sure it has correct memory on it, I have heard that some of the sd, hard drives and flash cards from eBay are being faked and what looks like a 500gb hard drive people find out later that its just a 1gb flash drive inside with some kind of modded files in it that makes it look like a 500gb drive, upon transferring files they just delete anything past 1gb.

Dec 6, 2015I recently purchased a Windows 10 tablet, everything else works fine except one annoying issue. I have a 64 GB USB 2.0 flash drive, which works well on my desktop PC (Windows 7). I also have another 16 GB USB stick (USB 2.0). Both USB sticks work fine on my desktop PC. However, when I test the full size USB port on my tablet, only the 16 GB USB stick worked. For the 64 GB USB stick, as soon as I plug it in, the USB light starts to blink forever.
While the USB light blinks, I keep hearing the windows sound for detecting new USB device, but see no notification messages. When I open DISK management or File explorer, I see no trace of this USB stick at all. I also checked "device manager", under USB controllers, I do NOT see any USB Mass storage there, and there are no unknown device in the device manager either. I tried re-scan devices, restart computer, clean USB registry ... None of them works. Then I choose to show "hidden devices" in device manager, and now see a new "USB Mass Storage Device" appear under USB controllers, however the status is "not connected", even though the USB stick is plugged in and the light is blinking.
As I said, I tested the USB stick with my other computer and worked fine. I also tested the tablet's USB port by plugging in other USB devices, such as a 16 GB USB stick, a MicroSD USB reader with a 32GB MicroSD inserted, a USB mouse, etc. and they all worked fine. Now I am really puzzled. It does not look like my USB stick is dead or the USB port on the tablet has any problem.

Oct 19, 2015I recently used a 16GB USB flash drive to create an installer for a new Linux distro. I noticed that the created partition is 8GB and the rest 8GB is unused. I want to create a second NTFS partition so I can use the USB as a recording medium for my PVR, but Disk Management doesn't give me this option. I then used MiniTool Partition Wizard Home Edition, which did create the partition but warned that it won't be recognized by Windows as it normally sees only the first partition on a USB Flash drive. I even went back to Disk Management and assigned a drive letter to the second partition, but in Explorer I see only the EFI partition (first, drive is formatted in GPT mode) with that drive letter. Is there any workaround? Of course I could just format the whole drive as NTFS, but I wouldn't like to do so until I don't need the installer anymore.

Oct 25, 2015Earlier today while playing Dying Light, my PC randomly blue-screened with the error "page fault in nonpaged area cpuz136_x64.sys" - After running a malware scan, nothing was found. After that I cleaned my registry with CCleaner. I haven't played Dying Light since then, but a few minutes ago I decided to run sfc /scannow - and It came up with a few files that were corrupt.

Oct 23, 2015In connection with my job, I have several insurance companies asking me to send scanned documents in Portable Document Format (PDF). My Brother Printer Control Center Fax-Scan software is not yet compatible with Windows10, even in Windows7 compatibility mode. The Windows10 Fax & Scan program does not list PDF as a scan-to file conversion option. Only jpeg, bitmap, txt, etc..
Is there a way to tweak or add-on something to Windows Fax & Scan to make it scan documents into PDF format?
Word 2013 - Scan A Document?
Nov 4, 2015My Computer came with Word 2013 installed on it and I have been looking for a way to scan a Document or Article directly into the Word 2013 program but I can't find a way to do it. In Word 2010 you could Customize and make a Keyboard Shortcut by selecting InsertImagerScan. In Word 2010 I made this shortcut by using the CTRL+8 keys and I could scan directly into Word 10 by using that key combination. I tried to set up the same Keyboard Shortcut option in Word 2013 - The InsertImagerScan is available in Word 2013 but I can't get it to work. How to Scan Directly Into Word 2013?

I had Norton look into it, and they said that it was fixed on my PC (through remote access), but every time I run the full or quick scan and tell it to shut down, it restarts!!! Out of curiosity, I installed a pristine Windows 10 Pro on a clean, formatted, erased and empty(?) hard drive with no apps installed on a spare laptop . Ran SFC /Scannow and it reported corrupt files.

Jan 21, 2016In Windows XP, when I print a doc from my PDF viewer, I can select my network attached printer's FAX machine and send a fax. In Windows 10, when I print I have a print destination of 'Fax' which puts me into the Windows 10 Fax code which tells me that I don't have a fax machine set up and then we go downhill into total irrelevancy.
