I have a retail copy of windows 8 on my desktop which I recently upgraded to win 10, I was wondering if I can use that windows 8 key again to install windows on a laptop since it is no longer on my desktop?
View 1 RepliesOn Window 8.1. Boosted the install which a lot of people are doing by clearing SoftwareDistribution/Download and running the cmd prompt.
Downloaded the Windows 10 update, as soon as the Preparing to Install dialogue was done, the computer restart, trying to install a normal Windows 8.1 update instead.
Once I am booted up again, I get this error [URL] .... and try the fix.
Once I try and redownload the update again, it skips to 100%, then fails the update with the error 80070643 being reported.
Have installed Windows 10 on two desktops, so decided to download and install on laptop. Laptop is currently on and shows 67% on Configure settings and 91% overall. There is no light flickering except a slight flicker about every 20-30 seconds showing action on hard drive and it has been at 91% for over an hour.

View 10 RepliesI'm currently running a PC on Windows 8.1. Of the course of it's use, I've had numerous problems with installing drivers and other software and have tried multiple times to clean install the OS from the disk. I've gotten to the point where I can't install most software I download for some reason and I can't get Windows update. Any type of sfc, dism /RestoreHealth, or other commands of the like always return unfixable errors. Would my problems be fixed by choosing the "clean install" option on the upgrade or would lingering system files cause me trouble down the road? If the latter is true, is there a way to use my upgrade on a new SSD I plan to buy?

The install app offered to uninstall the old version but for some reason did not install the new version. When I tried to install once more I got the same message. I tried to remove the CMOS battery for a few minutes (something I read from another thread), but didn't work.

As the title states I have an SSD and HDD setup, now I have set the Windows Documents, Pictures and Music folders ect and the app data on the HDD as you would.
And some programs are on the SSD and others on the HHD.
Will upgrading to windows 10 mess with this or will it just upgrade without putting random bits of it on my HDD.
I have recently purchased a new laptop, one that houses a rather small SSD. As well, it comes with Win 8.1 and I am quite eager to migrate to Win 10 as soon as I can (or at least as soon as the first Service Pack is released). A new SSD has been purchased and is intended to be installed right away.
From what I gather on the forums, would the following be the best way to upgrade to Win 10 on my new SSD?:
1. Launch the brand new laptop and immediately begin cloning the old SSD onto the new SSD using Win 8.1.
2. Install the new SSD, which now has Win 8.1.
3. Upgrade to Win 10 with the new SSD.
I'll then go about doing a clean install.
I'm stuck with my print spooler that doesn't want to start. It was working fine before the upgrade. I get the following message when going to the "view services on local computer" Windows could not start the Print Spooler service on Local Computer. Error 0x80070057: The parameter is incorrect.
I get the following message in the event viewer: The Print Spooler service terminated with the following error: One or more arguments are invalid

Windows Application not Opening after upgrading to Windows 10. Other Applications work but this Application is no longer working after I made an upgrade from Windows 7 to Windows 10. I have tried clean Windows 10 install but the problem is still there. VMPP for Maya is the name of the Application. From event viewer, it looks like it is crashing before it even opens.
The error information I see is:

This App worked on Windows 7 but NOT on Windows 10.
Question on behalf of a friend, he has a Fujitsu AH530 which had Windows 7 OEM installed and he upgraded to Windows 10 Insider Preview and then to Windows 10 from Microsoft Standalone Package, but he now wants to go back to Windows 7, he has used Windows 10 for longer than 30 days so he cannot reset it back from within Windows 10. Can he recover to factory settings using the Recovery Partition or will he need to purchase Recovery Disk from Fujitsu?
View 2 RepliesI upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 10 Home. Now I get random BSODs related to nvraid, error 11. I Googled error 11 and it suggest it may be caused from an outdated chipset driver. My PC is from 2007 so there are no current chipset drivers available. I am using the last available nForce 750i SLI chipset driver for my ASUS P5N-D motherboard from Nvidia.
View 2 RepliesIt says "downloading windows 10"and i get the icon scrolling but then it just takes me to the windows update screen that shows me my current updates are up to date. I've tried this over a dozen times now, even going as far as disabling my windows firewall and ms essentials....still nothing. I've installed the updates that were optional as well as the required ones but it still will not launch. Downloaded the windows 10 update.exe from microsoft directly and it does the same thing as the one in the taskbar. What else should I do? Maybe it's a sign I just keep 7 (ultimate btw) for a much longer time.

I have a laptop that came with Windows 8.1. The hard drive failed and has been replaced with a new hard drive. If I want to install Windows 10 on this laptop, do I first need to install Windows 8.1. and then perform the upgrade to Windows 10, or can I just install Windows 10? Will Windows 10 use the Windows 8.1 license key in the BIOS to activate? Or will this not work unless I first install Windows 8.1. and then upgrade to Windows 10?
This computer has never had Windows 10 on it.
The computer has a new unformatted hard disk that has never had Windows 8.1. installed.
A good friend of mine went ahead and updated from Win 7 to win 10 without backing up anything (despite my objections) and now has windows live mail but any of his old email messages are gone. I would suspect they are in the windows. Old folder in .app but not sure. Does windows 10 store the emails in the .app file like win 7? I am using Win 7 and will upgrade once I know that everything is working with 10.
