Its been more than a month that i have updated my Pc to windows 10, and i actually dont like it at all so i need to find a way to go back to windows 8.1 without losing data like Steam games and pictures and more.

I have windows 8.1 installed on my laptop and when I try to upgrade to windows 10, it overheats, shuts down and when I restart it, goes back to windows 8.1.
My fans are clean and everything works just fine with the laptop, I don't understand why is this happening. I also have a friend with a similar laptop model who is having the same overheating problem when upgrading to windows 10 (in his case, from windows 7).
I have attempted to download windows 10 around 4/5 times, the download completes and states that my computer needs to restart upon which it claims it is configuring the windows 10 upgrade. I would assume from this point it would restart into the windows 10 configuration however each time I have tried it it restarts back into windows 8 as if nothing had happened.
My laptop then opens up windows update and says I am able to download windows 10. This is really frustrating as I can't even seem to get into the windows 10 setup.
As you can see I am attempting to download again but there is no trace at all of it attempting to install windows other than this failed update that you can see here.
I am using an HP Pavillion 15-n268a laptop.
I had just installed windows 10 on my pc. I just want to know,if i go back to windows 8.1 will the installed applications that I had on windows 8.1 still be installed if i revert back to my previous windows 8.1.
When I installed windows 10 I used an installation disk and not the upgrade option. The previous windows I had was windows Single Language and the one I have now is Windows Pro.
I installed the upgrade to W10 and I think I should have waited. Things are slow to open and lockups, frozen screens and streaming problems are happening all the time. I see there is a go back to Windows 7 option and I may take it for now, and do a clean install at a later date.
View 2 RepliesQuestion on behalf of a friend, he has a Fujitsu AH530 which had Windows 7 OEM installed and he upgraded to Windows 10 Insider Preview and then to Windows 10 from Microsoft Standalone Package, but he now wants to go back to Windows 7, he has used Windows 10 for longer than 30 days so he cannot reset it back from within Windows 10. Can he recover to factory settings using the Recovery Partition or will he need to purchase Recovery Disk from Fujitsu?

If I want to install Windows 10 on this laptop, do I first need to install Windows 8.1. and then perform the upgrade to Windows 10, or can I just install Windows 10? Will Windows 10 use the Windows 8.1 license key in the BIOS to activate? Or will this not work unless I first install Windows 8.1. and then upgrade to Windows 10?
This computer has never had Windows 10 on it.
The computer has a new unformatted hard disk that has never had Windows 8.1. installed.
My Windows 7 was updating to Windows 10. When it appeared to almost be done configuring a message appeared stating the Windows 10 could not be installed and it was restoring the previous version of Windows.
Well that did not work. The pc will not boot up now. Instead I get: "Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: <windows root>system32hal.dll Please reinstall a copy of the above file"
I hope I can add the file using the win7 dvd. I know I was getting low on hard drive space, but had cleared enough to have 4 gig or so free. It was either not mentioned anywhere or I missed how much hd space would be needed. Of course I am assuming that the install bombed due to this?
I have been running Windows 10 Pro on my HP desktop for overa week with no problems. Over theweekend Windows attempted installing an upgrade; not sure when, but during theupgrade process I received a Critical Process Died BSOD with no error code. All system restarts result in the same error, and I havebeen unable to use Repair, Recovery Mode, or Safe mode to isolate theproblem.
The only usable option seems tobe to do a System Restore where I have the choice of losing all installed apps,or losing both all installed apps and files. Is there any way to roll back to the Windows 8.1 that isstill located in the Windows.old folder from the command prompt?
So I made the mistake of upgrading my Dell Venue 8 Pro to Windows 10... It's very slow and buggy.
I tried using the built in "Revert back to Windows 8.1" option in the Settings "app", but it says that files have been deleted and it can no longer perform the uninstallation.
I also tried going into the tablet's built in Backup and Recovery from Dell, but that doesn't allow me to reinstall Windows 8. It's merely a diagnostic.
When I try to install windows 10 into my newly built pc, everything goes normally... then it says that the pc need to reboot, and it does. After the reboot, the windows logo appears and it brings me back to the windows installation process.

Apparently this has to to with some bios settings, I have tried to follow the guide but I do not have all the options to described in the guide below.

After upgrading my Surface Pro from W8.1 to W10, I have discovered the hard way that Windows 10, even in tablet mode, is not touch-centric. (I also think that the W10 UI is much more cluttered by comparison, but I realize that that is a matter of taste.)

After several attempts I tried the Recovery option, thinking it would take me back to a restore point as in Windows 7. Instead it took me back to Windows 7 and all data and programs (other than the Windows 7 default programs) are gone. How can I get back to either 7 with my data and programs or 10 with my data and programs?

Downloaded the Windows 10 update, as soon as the Preparing to Install dialogue was done, the computer restart, trying to install a normal Windows 8.1 update instead.
Once I am booted up again, I get this error [URL] .... and try the fix.
Once I try and redownload the update again, it skips to 100%, then fails the update with the error 80070643 being reported.

There is no light flickering except a slight flicker about every 20-30 seconds showing action on hard drive and it has been at 91% for over an hour.

Of the course of it's use, I've had numerous problems with installing drivers and other software and have tried multiple times to clean install the OS from the disk. I've gotten to the point where I can't install most software I download for some reason and I can't get Windows update. Any type of sfc, dism /RestoreHealth, or other commands of the like always return unfixable errors. Would my problems be fixed by choosing the "clean install" option on the upgrade or would lingering system files cause me trouble down the road? If the latter is true, is there a way to use my upgrade on a new SSD I plan to buy?

l have checked for updates to win 7 but it keeps on checking forever not sure if this the problem but if it is not sure how to solve it . I have tried the standalone updater it is doing the same.
Ok, I know when doing a clean install or 1st time installation to disconnect the 2nd internal drive.
I have been testing Win10 on my laptop that only has one drive, but my desktop has an SSD OS drive and a 2TB spinner for the Libraries , File History and Macrium Reflect images. I have only started using 2 drives(before this I had never done it) at the end of last year and never had to upgrade or reinstall Win 8.1 update.
Question: When I run the upgrade to Win10, through Windows Update(whenever it comes down to me), Do I/Should I disconnect the 2nd internal(and redirect everything after), or can I just leave it connected, with no ill effects?
I think my windows 10 upgrade gets stuck at 92% with configuring windows at 69%. It's been at this screen for over 24 hours already. I'm a bit concerned now.
I'm wondering if I shut it down by pressing and holding the power button, would I get myself into another problem?
