I have a file on the desktop for Windows 10 Forums The color logo has been replaced with a generic globe with the shortcut arrow. the other W 10 F articles and shortcuts have also changed to the globe. I have other Icons that have changed on me. Question: How can I change or add the icon I want to a file or shortcut and make sure it stays that way?

So the desktop shortcut icon, in the Quick access area of File Explorer is broke for me. Instead of showing the icon of the desktop, its displaying as the default folder icon. I first noticed this about two weeks ago, and while not being a big issue, its been bugging me .
So far, I've tried the following to fix this: System File Checker - didn't find any corrupted filed; Reset icon cache - didn't fix it; Reset thumbnail cache - didn't fix it;

I have used the usual route to changing a default icon in "Properties" for internet shortcut(s). However, changing one file icon strangely does not change all the rest. Is this a bug? Is there a workround?

View 5 RepliesI created a new folder on the desktop and I can't change its icon to a one I downloaded. selecting the icon from the stock list (shell32.dll) works fine though. I tried with another folder in different location, still no luck. however, when I created a shortcut to the folder I placed on the desktop, I can change its icon to the custom one just fine. I just wanna have a folder with a blank icon.
edit: I fixed the issue. turns out Windows didn't like the fact that there was an "ą" letter in the icon path.
Where is the option to change the fonts for your icon, menu's etc... don't want to change size or colour just type.

View 2 RepliesA friend of mine who recently upgraded to Windows 10 is legally blind and is struggling with some accessibility options. Here is what we are struggling with: We need to change the font color of desktop icons to black. Certain contrasts are more visible for some impairments and in this case, a yellow background with black bold icon text is the best condition.
What I've tried : Tried high contrast theme / modeTried to modify regedit based on a suggestion for 8.1 here.
Where I've looked : Control Panel - System - Advanced System Settings - Advanced - PerformancePersonalize - Change Desktop IconsPersonalize - ColorsControl Panel - PersonalizationDisplay SettingsThemes - Theme Settings
I was able to get the text black when using the white high contrast mode, but that option won't work. While it does change the icon text to black, it also takes over many other options that deliver a less than desirable contrast for the user. We originally were thinking we could start with the high contrast theme, save as another theme and then systematically roll back the changes we didn't like, leaving the black text. Does not work - when in high contrast mode it effectively locks out your ability to make certain changes.
I have Pinned a few sites to the start menu using Microsoft Edge. My problem is that all of them have the same "E" edge (internet explorer) icon. So unless I keep them at large size, or remember in what order they were pinned/arranged, I have no clue which pin is for which site.
When you click "Pin To Start" in the options menu in Edge, where are those pins stored?

I also tried regedit methods to change values of Colour and Desktop/Colours , but nothing works. We developers have to work continuously on laptop and with white background our eyes hurts. Also I use Pangolin Screen brightness software to dim brightness.
I need to store files at a location other than my SSD boot drive. I right click on a folder icon e.g., "downloads" and go to properties/location and change the drive letter. I go to the icon, right click and the location has been changed.
However, downloads continue to go to C:users/myname/downloads.

In versions prior to 10 one could drag and drop items in jump list. In Windows 10 it's different (but certainly not better. Why do they mess with this stuff????)
In Windows 10, if you open File Explorer, you can drag and drop the pinned folders under the Quick Access header on the left. When you right click File Explorer icon pinned to taskbar, the items will be in the same order as established in the Quick Access heading in File Explorer.
Whenever i rename a desktop shortcut, the icon turns white and never comes back, this started after i upgraded to windows 10?

First, my mouse was missing and the desktop icon names were white with clear centre of the words.
So I restarted my factual laptop. I regained my mouse however the desktop icon shortcut names under the icons themselves still remain see-through without the usual black colour.

I upgraded to Windows 10 recently, and I've noticed something strange happening. When I boot up my computer, the desktop looks fine, but after a while, the little arrow overlays at the bottom left corner of the shortcut icons disappear. Sometimes, if left long enough, the overlay will be some weird picture (Instead of an arrow, it will be a batman picture, like from the shortcut to my Batman: Arkham Asylum games, or something else.) When I right-click on the desktop and hit refresh, it reverts back to normal, but I still want to know why it is doing this. My previous OS was Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit.

View 1 RepliesI noticed today that the usual arrow at the bottom left of desktop shortcuts has been replaced by the user icon of two figures[URL]. When I go into security properties, there are two user groups that I don't see in other files. One called INTERACTIVE, and the other called Account Unknown(S-1-5-21-4180935659-2234933324-3389827175-1000). Upon doing some research, it was said these unknown accounts can pop up when an account was deleted. I only created one account on this computer since I built it, my main account. I scanned with Malware Bytes, which came up clean. I am currently scanning with Bitdefender as well. Trying to delete the user results in a message describing how I can not remove it as it is inheriting permissions from it's parent, and that I would have to disable the inheritance feature in order to remove it.

View 2 RepliesIs it possible to place different sets of icons on different desktop ? For example, having desktop 1 empty, desktop 2 full of files, desktop 3 with shortcuts to programmes/games, etc. Also is there a way to have a different wallpaper on each desktop, to tell them apart faster ?
My guess is all of that is not possible, given that additional desktops are not supposed to be "permanent", but rather added/deleted quickly. But maybe with a bit of tweaking ?
When opening it i don't want to see Frequent folders and files, how can i change it so i can see only the drives?
