Mar 2, 2016I've been working on my new computer. I really enjoyed picking out the parts and putting it together, but I'm not enjoying the enormous amount of troubleshooting I'm having to do.I installed Windows 10 on my PC. It froze on set-up, so I reinstalled it. I was then able to use it for a short amount of time and then it froze again. I decided to totally format the drive and reinstall it yet again, and after several attempts (it froze during the set up process several times) I was able to get it installed. Yet, it still freezes.
Normally Windows 10 would freeze in the first few minutes of use, but when I boot Windows 10 through safe mode, it doesn't seem to freeze. My guess is that some kind of software issue is causing this (drivers?) - but I don't know.(Let me clarify that I am able to boot into and use the BIOS just fine. I don't think it's a hardware issue, but I could be wrong.) Is there something that I could do to prevent this from happening? I don't have my drivers installed yet. I also noticed a few errors in the device manger. I'll list them below:

Internet Speed Is Fine But Download Speed Is Slow
Oct 19, 2015I do not know why, but ever since (thats when I started downloading again) I have upgraded from windows 8.1 to windows 10, downloading is really difficult. when I was still using 8.1, I used Orbit downloader to download my files, but since I have upgraded to windows 10, all apps were lost, and for some reason I cant download Orbit again.
Now I have been switching from on Download manager to the other, from Eagle Get, IDM, Jdownloader. still my download speed SUCK, it is slow as a turtle. but when I am playing online games it is fine, my ping is good, when I am streaming videos it is also fast. but when it comes to downloading IT IS SLOW. why ? is it because of the download manager ? I remember updating my Battlefield 4 and the speed is good. but now, it so slow.
Performance :: CPU Not Running At Full Speed Even At High Performance Power Mode
Jan 9, 2016I've notice that on windows 10 and 8.1, task manager would show the my max cpu core speed is 2.3-2.4 ghz. However, my Core 2 Quad q8400 is rated at 2.66 ghz. I tried changing the power settings in windows and try lowering my cpu temperature, but my speed would never reach 2.66 ghz.

Dec 30, 2015about a month ago I built a new pc with windows 10 home 64 bit but about 2 weeks ago my computer had this issue where it blue-screens after 5 minutes of use, reboots and works perfectly after that. The most common error message that i get when it goes into blue-screen is MEMORY_MANAGEMENT. Also about 3 weeks ago i was installing an internet card, i plugged in the internet card and the computer turned on. The card didn't click into place so i pulled it out(while the computer was on, i know very stupid) but while i was doing that it touched the GPU and caused a spark. I don't know whether i have incorrect drivers or if any of the components were damaged in the spark.

Nov 2, 2015I just updated to Windows 10 but I think the problem was with Windows 8 too, Sometimes my internet is out on my PC while the internet is still up on my brothers PC, tho this problem happens about 3 times a very few days.. We have 5+ computers in the house and 4 are on daily while 3 is being used daily the 4th one is not very used daily and sometimes off most of the time. So the 2 computers have Windows 10 and 3rd computer has Windows 7 while the 4th computer has Windows 10 also. I read on an article which says that Windows 10 uses bandwidth without you know and I checked task manager and on windows 8 my CPU and Memory was just fine and when I upgraded to Windows 10 my CPU spiked to about 20% and Memory spiked to about 72% and sometimes random numbers appear on all 4 sections( CPU, Memory, Disk, Network).

Sep 19, 2015In the diagnostic startup mode there's no search so I can't run msconfig. Is there another way to do run this? I got to where I'm at now by running msconfig, staying on the general tab (not the boot), unchecking normal startup, then checking diagnostic. No matter what I've tried (including combing this forum and searching online) I still can't get out of diagnostic startup. There are other things going on with my PC, such as at least one virus, the Trojan Zeus Banker. I'd like to try a couple of more things before I put my PC in the shop and probably pay mucho dinero.

Feb 3, 2016Over the course of about a month and a half I've been getting these BSODs that state driver irql not less or equal (netio.sys) and also sometimes page fault in non paged area. the weird thing is that after 5 mins the system crashes however after I reboot the system works perfectly fine. I've been hearing a lot of reports online that the crashing has to do with faulty drivers, and i noticed that my wireless adapter (Asus pce ac68) was not working properly according to device manager I new it was faulty drivers so I took it into my local computer shop and the next day they had it fixed. However the problem has not been fixed. I still get the BSODs and apparently antivirus software is partly to blame. could Norton 360 (the antivirus software that i use) be responsible for all these crashes?

Aug 8, 2015Last night I bit the bullet again & upgraded to windows 10 & then did a clean install. I have noticed that the network icon in the system tray shows a yellow triangle & says no access but I can surf fine with chrome & use qbitorrent etc.
The only way I can get rid of the yellow triangle is to disable the network adapter & then re enable it.
Not using any third party firewall as private fireall doesn't support windows 10.

Dec 25, 2015A few days ago, I upgraded my Windows 7 laptop to Windows 10 and took Cortana for a bit of a test drive. It wasn't great but it might be useful on some occasions.
Today, I bought a brand new laptop which installed Windows 10 when I powered it on. After the installation, I was checking things out a bit and wanted to verify that Cortana was working on the new laptop. Cortana promptly told me it was not available in this region!
This makes no sense to me. I was in Southern Ontario, Canada, both times (although in different cities within the area). I can't believe that Cortana would work in London Ontario but NOT in Kitchener Ontario, which is only an hour east of London.
how I can coax Cortana to work on the new laptop?
Error 0x80070006 Installing Apps To SD - Works Fine When Changed C Drive?
Nov 29, 2015I have an HP Stream 7 that only has 32 GB of space. I put in an SD card and changed the default location in "Storage" to install all new apps to the SD card. Whenever I try to install an app now, I get an error and will not install. When I changed it back to install on C, it downloads and works fine. Is there any work arounds? I saw that someone mentioned they installed the apps to C, and then moved them to the SD card.

Aug 6, 2015I recently installed Windows 10 on a desktop computer and everything went as smoothly as it could have, with no problems at all. So, motivated by how well everything went with that computer, I decided to upgrade Windows on a laptop as well. The laptop is a Toshiba Satellite L855, with an Intel Core i3-2370M processor.
The upgrade process on the laptop also completed successfully. Now both computers have Windows 10 and so far it has been running... fine.
The only unusual thing I've noticed with the laptop is that the CPU fan wants to run at full speed all the time, even though the computer is never used for any "processor-intensive" tasks. The normal activity on it is browsing the web, watching videos, playing music, writing text files and really nothing more than that.
I immediately found this odd and I have come to the conclusion that something in Windows 10 is responsible because:
a) This never happened in Windows 7, which was the previous operating system the computer had, and
b) This doesn't happen when I start the computer and go into a different operating system, namely Ubuntu.

Feb 23, 2016I have a peculiar issue with wifi on Windows 10. My computer shows a wifi link speed of 270 Mbps and i have tested the same by sending huge files over my network. Now the issue is that i strongly believe that something in Windows 10 is throttling the internet speeds drastically. I am only getting half of the subscribed download speeds on my Windows 10. I have other devices/phones connected to the same wireless network and they are getting full speeds!
I have tried several things but i am unable to achieve full download speeds on my Windows 10. This has been affecting me for the past around 15 days. Prior to that things used to be normal.

Jul 2, 2015Using a LOCAL account I have no problem with Shares -- how do I set these now using an Ms account.
Samba just times out trying to access Windows machine where I'm logged on with an Ms account. Also I can't access other Windows machines from the Ms account. The other Windows machines can't access the Windows machine where I'm logged on with an Ms account.
All these problems DISAPPEAR when using a LOCAL account.
I think my future strategy will be just keep a MINIMAL Windows VM with an Ms account to GET the insider builds and then revert back to Local accounts.
Computer Runs Fine In Safe Mode - Locking Up Randomly
Nov 5, 2015My computer has been having a problem with locking up randomly. Hard reset is the only way to recover. I ran stress test on CPU, GPU, memory checker, Sea gate tools was never able to recreate the problem or find any issues with any hardware. I also swapped out video cards and still had the same issue. I also monitored temperatures and never had it get hot. But if i reboot into safe mode with networking windows never locks up.

Upgraded to windows 10 first week in aug. from windows 7. first download failed miserably. my son in law removed windows 10 and reset windows 7 to bare bones. then downloaded windows 10 again. all seemed well, upgrade loaded fine. Since the middle of august most updates fail. Cumulative updates have not installed, period. I keep getting error codes, troubleshooting does no good. Says drivers out of date, files corrupted. Event viewer is loaded with failures and warnings. I have Malwarebytes premium.

Jan 10, 2016First thing I should mention is I haven't had a virus in at least ten years. Those of you that run Windows Defender know that it runs a daily quick scan so maybe no real need to run a full scan. That said, I set WD to run a full scan and went to bed last night. Woke up this morning and saw it had barely moved. First thing I thought of is the 'power options' settings. So I did the usual: Control Panel/power options – power saver – change power settings/put computer to sleep-never / change advanced power settings/change settings that are currently unavailable-Hard disk-Turn off hard disk after – Never – Apply – O.K.
Started another scan, within ten minutes I saw that the power button light is in 'sleep' mode. Let it run for two hours anyway. Scan basically did not run.
Windows 10, Dell computer, all updates. I have run full scans in the past, been several months, and it took a little less than two hours. Do I suspect I have a virus – no. Still that shouldn't prevent me from running a full scan. I have "no" other issues.

Dec 19, 2015I just (Dec. 19, 2015) completed the latest update to Windows 10, had trouble with my volume icon, fixed it, then found my wifi icon is stuck in airplane mode despite the laptop having full wifi functionality. Tried turning system icons on and off through the "task bar and start menu properties" dialog box, tried various combinations of "on" and "off" while restarting the entire system, nothing works. I've connected and reconnected wirelessly by both using a physical button (shaped like an antenna emitting parentheses-shaped waves) and by using the icon that's now stuck in airplane mode. I can access the internet, but I can't see the status in the task bar as I used to. All I see is the icon shaped like an airplane, even while I'm clearly not in airplane mode and when I should therefore be seeing the wifi icon.
