Jul 29, 2015I joined the insider program last year and basically upgraded to all builds from the very first public build. Before then, I was using Windows 8.1 PRO on my Asus Vivobook which was legit (pro license through my school's DreamSpark program).
I was on buil 10240 and decided to download the media creator tool for Windows 10 and chose the first option which was Upgrade my PC.
I chose to keep nothing. It installed, I logged in Windows is not activated. I try installing / updating apps from the store and it won't work. Each time, I get an email from Microsoft saying Device limit reached for installing apps & games. I removed 2 devices.
Now I have 2 devices running Windows 10, the Lumia 822 on insider preview, and Windows 10 Laptop and still have the same issue.
So my problems now are:
1. Not activated and
2. Can't install apps.

It looks like you've reached your device limit for installing apps and games from the Store on your Windows 10 device. If you want to install apps and games from the Store on another Windows 10 device, remove a device from the device list.
I have 1 device using Windows 10, and 1 computer at work running the insider preview, that's it.
So is this a sneaky [adjective removed ]you catch from Microsoft, I cannot have Windows 10 installed on more than 1 device ?
Parental Control Suggestion - Time Limit Specific Apps / Games
Aug 10, 2015The new Parental Control system is generally a big step forward, though I disagree with the kids having to have an email / Microsoft account and would prefer to be able to leverage local accounts.
One area that could do with a little tweak is around the Screen Time. Specifically, I may want to allow my child an hour a day of general screen time, but limit access to a particular game / app to 1 hour per week to stop them getting obsessed. Sure I can just block them after the fact, but it would be better to allow you to define the rules up-front.
How To Limit Aero Snap Only To 2x1 Instead Of 2x2
Aug 11, 2015Windows 10 is definitely the best desktop OS ever. I found one improved feature really annoying when you work with a small screen. The advanced aero-snap function to automatically re-size four windows into 2x2 arrangement.
However, since windows 7, I get used to use 2x1 snap on my laptop. So, is there any way to disable the 2x2 snap and turn it back to 2x1 snap no matter you snap to a corner or an edge of the desktop?
USB 3.0 Drivers That Don't Pop A Power Limit
Mar 17, 2016I own a Gigabyte P34G V2, and it's a laptop, but it's been designed with a special USB 3.0 port to use for charging. This port should charge at 1 amp, compared to a usual USB 3.0 port's 0.5, But it has some odd behavior on my Winodws 10 OS for me.
So, the Gigabyte Smart Manager I have has charging enabled, for sleep and hibernation, everything on, and I got a USB power checker to check voltage and amperage.
Every other port on the laptop does 0.44 Amps, but this port refuses to work properly.
When plugging it in, it will spike up to 0.88, and then stop outputting power altogether, before turning back on at 0.44 Amps.
I post this in the Windows 10 section because I believe the issue has to deal with drivers, and not with the hardware or anything, I have BIOS settings set for it to charge as well.
Account Device Limit Reached

On the list is a vm which I have removed and a 64 bit version of win 8.1 which is on another account. What is this all about says I am limited in the store.

Aug 24, 2015I recently reinstalled Fallout 3 but noticed every time I saved, they weren't detected in the Load screen. I checked the folder (C:UsersAlien2DocumentsMy GamesFallout3) and my saves were there! So the game is saving, but I'm unable to load any of them cuz they aren't getting detected.
I have Windows 10 which warns me the game is not optimized, but it runs fine. Also, I want to note I did not have to install Games for Windows Live when I installed fallout 3 through Steam, but when I click the warning Windows 10 gives me about the game not running properly, it sends me straight to an install link for GfWL which I decided to reinstall.
I had hoped to use the migrate method where you'd move the save files from My Games/Fallout 3 into whatever profile folder there is made from GfWL but after reinstalling and logging into my old account it didn't work.why I can't load my games?
Performance :: How To Limit Update Download Speed
Sep 3, 2015I did a search and only found hits referring to a metered and/or WiFi connection, neither of which applies to me.
I have only a (nominal) 2Mbps connection -- which is the fastest available in my neighborhood. This has been a problem with Windows updates all along, but since I've upgraded to Win10, the trouble is exacerbated to the point that the internet is sometimes unusable when I'm getting an update from MS. This is especially problematic in that my spouse works online for a living, so MS eating up the bandwidth affects her job directly.
So, my question is in two parts:
1. Is there any setting whereby I can limit the download speed of the Windows updates? I don't wish to defer or stop any, just make them very low priority for bandwidth.
2. Is there any setting/switch I can toggle that will show (like the old flag icon in Win7) that there are Windows Updates downloading, so that I can tell whether any internet sluggishness is because of Windows or just the connection itself (which, living here the Third World, is far from constant). I'm hoping to document these fluctuations for an ongoing attempt to get better service from our ISP.
I realize this isn't really the place to lodge a complaint with Microsoft, but it sure would be nice if they (and other international software companies) would consider those of us who do not live in Redmond, Chattanooga, or other places with light-speed internet connections when they set things up.

I've largely figured out how to get adequate colors for pieces of windows and such, but:
I'm on large monitors and the icons in the taskbar are miniscule. And YES, they are NOT set to use SMALL icons... I'm looking for a way to get LARGER icons WITHOUT reducing resolution or doing anything else to the displays...
Aero snap is marginally useful, but NOT when you're using multiple monitors. HOW do I make aero snap limit itself to ONE monitor? I DON'T want it to pull windows that are on monitor two onto monitor 1 when I snap a window. I JUST want it to work with the windows on the monitor I snap a window on.
So, how do I customize these couple basic things so Windows 10 is a bit more productive?
Computer Freezes When Playing Games And When Not Playing Games?
Oct 3, 2015I've been having this issue for nearly a year now (probably around 9 months). It started after my little sister made me get a virus by her trying to download something onto my laptop. I've since taken it to a reputable computer shop as well as followed instructions from other computer wizs and I think it's no longer there. Issue is, my computer has kind of developed another problem after that. It freezes on it's own sometimes, when I pick it up or even when it's on a desk and immobile. It would also freeze when I play a game sometimes, loud buzzing sound as the game continues in loops I believe. I had BSOD problems earlier this year that was solved (Apparently. I haven't gotten any in about 4-5 months) when I had Windows 7 but this issue still persists.
When it would freeze and I manually turn off my computer and turn it back on, the laptop would sometimes say no wifi could be detected. At all. Not mine, not my neighbors, nothing. I've never really taken it out of the house so I don't know if it'd act the same elsewhere. I would then shut it down and take out the battery for 30 seconds before putting it back in. Sometimes the wifi would work then or I'd go connect it to my Internet Modem and the wifi would start working over there too.
So I'm not sure what's causing this problem. It's not overheating as I had it cleaned less than 4 months ago by a professional. I've had this laptop for two years and I really wanted it to last me at least 4 because I'll be going into an animation program soon and to get a laptop of the same caliber costs $1000+.
Is there anyway I can solve this freezing issue/loss of wifi on my own? I'm thinking of taking it back to the computer shop (they've had a hard time trying to find out what's wrong with it) but I'm sure they'll charge me again and I'm not willing to end up paying a lot to get this fixed. Might as well buy a new one if it costs more than $500 to fix...
P.S. I'm also having issues with my sound card where I'd plug in my headphones and it would work but when I take it out, my laptop would say it's still plugged in. Addtionally, my CD Rom Drive makes a loud sound when I try to skip through CDs and DVDs. Sometimes it won't even skip and just continue making the sound. I don't know how my laptop has gotten to this state as I've taken very good care of it (minus allowing a younger sibling to use it but you live and learn). These issues don't bother me much as I can use a DVD player for my DVD's and the sound issue isn't an issue for me. I don't really care for it since I use headphones 90% of the time or have the sound off.

Feb 22, 2016I am having some serious problems with my taskbar... it seems to be locked but i have checked it over and over and it isnt... i have seen hundreds of posts similar to this but no fixes that worked... i tried the powershell command... tried safe boot... tried to use an older image but that didn't work... either...
Also I got super scared when my prefered cleaning software (IObit uninstaller) said "power scan leftovers of Search" as if it had uninstalled my search bar... my pc is about 1.5 years old now and i can't find my windows installation disk anywhere... my brother has a windows 10 disc that came with his rig but i dont want to use it incase it locks him out saying his version is pirated... i am willing to buy a new OS disk if i need to but i MUST retain my files... i recently got able to live 9 and used the key so if i need to reinstall it I'm not sure if i will have to get a new one

Do I have to reinstall W7 then do an upgrade again? I never set any passwords on W7 as all of my passwords are in Keepass.

Trying to type my password at login screen, it just seems to sit there. After a few mins some characters appear in the password field with much delay. After all of this, I have attempted to load a live Linux distro to grab files/data off the drive to start backing up the OS and reinstall. Feb 10, 2016I recently decided to move my archived video and photo files, from a small (250GB) drive to a larger (500GB) drive as the smaller one is maxed out. However when I tried to move them, I got an error message "You need permission from 'Doug' to access this file" (or similar). In review of the source files, I see the majority of them have a padlock icon in front of them. I checked the parent file and I ('Doug') am the owner of the entire drive, all folders and all files, with total control and permissions over all of them. Yet I cannot move them, open them, rename them, or in any way utilize these archived files.
I did not ask for any encryption on the drive (which is also open for sharing with 'everyone') I have been using this drive since many previous OS setups, and other computers, since Vista, and never had problems accessing them before. I see in looking at the target drive, that all files that did not have the padlock, were moved to the new drive. I am thinking that these files may be encrypted with the old EFS(?) security, but not sure as I have never used it, at least not deliberately, but if I did it would have been under the same owner name, and passwords. I am hoping by this time in the tech evolution, that there is a workaround as some of these files are digitized 30-40 year old videos and photos, with no originals left, so I need to get these back. I am talking thousands of files!
Locked Out Of Admin Account - Can't Use PC At All
Nov 14, 2015So the other day I noticed my only account on my laptop had lost administrator privileges. I looked up how to fix this and went about doing. I booted into "safe mode with command prompt" but that realized I didnt need that, just regular safe mode. I turned off my laptop, and turned it back on expecting a normal boot.
When it boots up, it goes straight to the windows login screen for "administrator". No matter how many times I hit ok it doesnt do anything or will start to load but eventually come back with, "account has been disabled. Please see system administrator". As of right now, that's all I can do with my laptop, so its pretty much useless to me. Is there a way to boot into safe mode using the power button or holding an F# key?
Drive Locked When Trying To Boot?
Oct 31, 2015I was trying to boot from the Installation Media with the intent to restore using a system image disk. I have mounted the disk previously and determined that it in fact has the image intact. However it is not recognized. So, I tried to install Windows 10 Home with the Installation Media but there is no partition there and the error says "the drive is locked". I am now typing this on the same pc so obviously there is no problem with the drive.

Oct 21, 2015I noticed within the past week that, when my PC is locked and the lock screen is showing, it will randomly look like it's trying to log in without any action on my part. The lock screen will go up and then the loading circle will appear for a few seconds. Then, the screen goes black and it returns to the lock screen image. I have no problems logging in or out, but it's just kind of annoying and buggy. This is on both my laptop and my desktop.

Aug 4, 2015This started back when I was running Windows 8.1, so it isnt new to the Windows 10 installation. Every now and then my laptop will get really slow. When I look at the task manager, I will see that CPU usage never goes above 47% and it seems like it is speed locked to 1.19 Ghz.

Those are the specs. This happens even right after a clean install with absolutely nothing else on it except for what comes with Windows. Ive looked into the BIOS to make sure those settings are valid and Ive looked into the power options under windows to make sure something isn't weird there.
Accounts :: Locked Out Of Administrator Account
Dec 26, 2015I am currently on a different computer than the one where I am locked out of the Administrator account.
Less than 3 weeks ago, I bought a new laptop that came with Windows 10 installed. When I finally set up the new laptop and tried out Windows 10 for the first time, I was annoyed at the whole thing with Windows blocking some programs from being installed and a lot of other annoying prompts. This is when I found out about a higher level of Administrator access known as a Super Administrator to avoid most of these prompts, and install programs without being blocked by Windows. So what I did created a new user account with the Command Prompt and gave it Super Administrator access without setting a password. Once I logged into my new user account, I deleted all of the other user accounts on my computer, since I had no need for the other user accounts (such as the Guest account).
The real trouble happened when my computer crashed and experienced a BSOD. After the computer rebooted from the BSOD, I found out that I could not log into the Administrator account because it prompts for a password, but I never set up a password for the account. Inputting no password does not work. I am not sure how a password was set up on the Administrator account without my knowledge and whether this might have been related to my BSOD crash.
I have made an attempt to get back into my only user account, but nothing has worked so far. All of the built-in Windows diagnostic tools have failed to work, since they all require that I log into the Administrator account, which I am unable to do. My original plan was to use the option to reset my PC that lets me keep my files, but that won't work without having access to the Administrator account. What password is on my Administrator account considering that I never set up a password and somehow the account now has a password on it. How to get back into my Administrator account?
