Generic PnP Monitor Driver Doesn't Stay Disabled / Uninstalled After Restart In Boot Camp

Oct 3, 2015

The generic PnP monitor driver in the device manager keeps reenabling/reinstalling itself whenever I restart Windows 10 on my early 2011 MBP (Boot Camp). I want to leave it disabled so the brightness controls on the keyboard work, otherwise they don't.

I do not want to disable automatic driver update checking by Windows 10. I know that if I turn off automatic driver installation via device installation settings and enabling "Prevent installation of other devices not described by other policy settings" will keep the "Generic PnP Monitor" driver uninstalled, and this is certainly one solution that works, but disabling these features interferes with the installation of other devices (one example is the TAP driver for the Private Internet Access Windows client).

There is no available apple display driver I can install over the generic driver that I have found, but the brightness controls work perfectly when the Generic PnP driver is disabled/uninstalled. I just wish it'd stay that way after a restart.

Drivers/Hardware :: Eizo EV2750 / Windows Not Reading Monitor EDID / Only Recognizes As A Generic PnP Monitor

Feb 10, 2016

I recently got a new monitor, an Eizo EV2750, which Windows only recognizes as a generic PnP monitor.

I've tried connecting it thorugh DisplayPort, HDMI and DVI without any luck. The often mentioned sollution, to unlplug everything and wait 10 minutes, does not work either.

The graphics card seems to read the EDID however, as in nVidia control panel it displays correctly as EV2750. Same thing with other applications, like DisplayCAL which I use as my color management system.

Seems like it's only an issue with Windows. This issue, however, also means that I can't get full functionality from the monitor. For instance, the ambient light sensor does not work (which is typical when Windows doesn't recognize the display properly).

Graphic Cards :: Generic PnP / Can't Adjust Monitor Resolution Correctly

Mar 5, 2016

My computer currently has 3 monitors connected to it. 2 through the graphics card (R9 280), 1 through the integrated graphics (AMD HD 3000). Not sure when why or how, but the integrated graphics card can never pick up what type of monitor is connected to it... so it always gives me a bunch of generic 4:3 resolutions...

I've tried uninstalling the drivers and letting them reinstall. I've tried swapping around the cables to see if i could get lucky with one of the other screens, but they all face the same issues. I've tried buying brand new cables across the board because sometimes people say that's the issue. But not success.

The cloest thing i have is apparently a custom resolution setter, but it was created for windows 7 in mind and doesn't seem to work on windows 10 (PowerStrip).

My question is, is there anyway to format the list so i can select the correct resolution? It's a Toshiba TV/Monitor and it seems like every thing else attached to my pc (even 3rd party programs i tried to use to forcably change the resolution) can spot it and hand me back the correct resolution but i can't seem to change it. I get Genertic pnp through the control panel (the only place the monitor shows up in) and even then the correct driver doesn't show, it's the Microsoft Generic driver.

Mobo: MSI AMD 3000 series, cant find exact model.

I've updated my AMD drivers to the latest and so far can only modify the resolution to stock ones that look horrid on the screen. Any program in windows 10 to change the resolution of a screen.

No Audio Through Displayport - Monitor Recognized As Generic PNP In Device Manager

Sep 14, 2015

I am running Windows 10 Pro 64-bit on a Lenovo T420 laptop and use the following two monitors in extended display mode:

1.) ASUS PA238Q connected via DisplayPort (Primary Display)
2.) Samsung Syncmaster 245BW connected via DVI (Secondary Display)

The display of the monitors works perfectly, it's just that when I start windows, the audio comes through my laptop speakers. Under "Playback devices", it lists the ASUS as "Not plugged in." If I either power-cycle my ASUS or disconnect and re-connect the displayport cable, the monitor is detected as plugged in under "playback devices" and the audio comes through the speakers attached to the ASUS monitor.

I have a Intel HD Graphic 3000 card and the Intel HD graphics app correctly recognized my monitors by their true model #. Device Manager has my laptop display (LCD 1600x900), SyncMaster 245B/245BW/245BPlus(Digital) and Generic PnP Monitor listed (instead of ASUS PA238Q). There do not seem to be any drivers for the ASUS monitors off their site that I could find.

Reinstalling Uninstalled LibreOffice Upon Restart

Dec 15, 2015

I have a Windows 10 Pro 64 workstation that is fully up-to-date with all the latest security patches.  It has Malwarebytes Home Premium installed and a full scan indicates that I have NO vermin in residence.  Similarly, a full scan using Windows Defender also indicates that I have no vermin in residence.

My problem is that regardless of what I use to UNinstall LibreOffice v4.4.6.3 (Control PanelPrograms & Features, CCleanerUninstaller, Revo Uninstaller, or IOBit Uninstaller), it manages to reinstall itself  upon system restart.

Drivers/Hardware :: LAN Driver Is Uninstalled And Won't Install

Jan 1, 2016

I recently replaced my GTX 660 with a GTX 970, and after I had completed installing that, the PC started up perfectly. The only issue was the internet said it was not connected (with a red X on the connection icon). I used the troubleshooter to discover that I did not have a LAN driver installed and windows didn't couldn't detect what I needed. I check my files and the driver was still there, so I uninstalled it expecting the disk that had come with the box of the motherboard to reinstall the driver correctly. After I had uninstalled the driver and used the disk to try and reinstall, the driver did not reappear. I searched for a driver install separately on my laptop, but to no avail. Nothing seemed to be compatible with my motherboard. The driver which I had assumed matched state that it could not detect the family of driver on my PC. I tried to do a recovery but didn't have a backup file, and resorted to a factory reset. After trying the disk after the reset, and continuing to search for the right driver, I came up empty handed.

Performance :: System Restore Won't Stay Disabled

Dec 14, 2015

How to turn system restore on or off. I do Macrium backups frequently and absolutely do not need the system restore turned on. I turn it off and occasionally check back only to find it on again. Not sure what is activating it. I am going to start checking each time I boot the computer up in the mornings to see if it turns on every new boot. Just rebooted my computer and system protection isn't turned on. Wonder if updates or something is making default on or something.

Drivers/Hardware :: How To Reinstall A Previously Uninstalled Driver

Oct 11, 2015

I was forced to uninstall the Lenovo power management driver from my laptop because it was giving me blue screens (I believe it used to happen when the display was meant to go to sleep). This means that I now have no power management and the fan goes full blast all the time. Therefore I want to reinstall the driver to see if I can find a workaround to the crashing while keeping the fan a bit quieter. How do I do this? Windows Update can't see that it is missing and Lenovo don't have a download for it, presumably because Windows is supposed to handle installing the driver automatically.

Stuck - Install Requires Restart But Doesn't Progress After Restart

Jan 15, 2016

I am upgrading a computer from Windows 7 to Windows 10. I completed the download, and got a message that the computer needed to restart to continue the installation. However, when I restart and the computer comes back up, the same message appears and the installation does not progress. When I go to check Windows updates in the control panel, it says it can't check for updates because another installation is in progress. I have restarted the machine multiple times with no progress - can't go forward, can't go back.

File Explorer Window Doesn't Stay

Jul 31, 2015

So I upgraded to Win 10 and so far I like it, but a problem which I find annoying:

Whenever I open file explorer the window tends to move from where I placed it. What I mean is I place the window directly in the center, as I like it. When I open it again, it will be displayed at the very top of the screen. When I close it and open it again it will be displayed at the bottom of the screen on the left. The window seems to change places every time it is opened.

Nothing major, but I am OCD about keeping windows centered and organized haha so is there a way to keep the window in one spot? Is this a bug or is this supposed to happen?

Taskbar Doesn't Stay On 2nd Display After User Switching

Aug 9, 2015

I have a problem with my taskbar. I have 2 monitors and I like to keep the taskbar on the secondary display, vertically at the right hand side of the screen. My other half has a separate account on our PC and she has the taskbar the same way.

When she logs in to her account while I'm still logged in and then when I switch back to my profile, the taskbar is being moved from display 2 back to display 1 - however it stays vertically on the right hand side. I.e. Windows can't seem to remember which display the taskbar is on, but it can remember the location of the taskbar.

Why Doesn't File Explorer (This PC / Documents Folder) Stay In Place

Aug 16, 2015

I always like to have my Windows positioned in a certain way on my desktop, and even though some programs remain, a lot don't (i.e. 'This PC' & 'Documents' folder) never stay in the same place. It's always random when opened. Not a major issue I know. But annoying all the same. Is there a fix or workaround?

Apps :: System Restore Doesn't Restore Uninstalled Software

Dec 16, 2015

Maybe I have a misunderstanding of how System Restore works. Yesterday I uninstalled a program that I'd like to now get back. The company that made the program no longer offers archive downloads for that program in particular. Today it occurred to me that I could do a System Restore to when the program was still on this laptop & all would be returned as it was.

The first 2 times I tried was a total fail for returning the program but when I went back to a week ago it was there. Something is missing & it errors asking for the old install software that doesn't exist anymore (the program was purchased it 2008).

Drivers :: Doesn't Recognize Monitor

Feb 13, 2016

I'm having trouble to get picture on my main and only monitor when booting up. The green led indicator on the monitor is just flashing.

Usually I have to push the restart button 10-15 times until picture finally appears. Sometime I am able to log on in the dark. Hit space and logon, then do a win+p until picture appears.

I've tried to uninstall the drivers, but that didn't solve it. I had to use a different monitor to get in for the first time after that. Driver is the most recent one.

Drivers/Hardware :: Must Reinstall Ethernet Adapter Driver After Every Restart

Oct 1, 2015

I recently upgraded directly from Windows 8.1 64-bit to Windows 10 and I am having some problem with my Ethernet Adapter. My Ethernet Adapter is a Killer e2200 Gigabit Ethernet Controller, which is built in to my motherboard (MSI Z87M GAMING). When I first installed Windows 10, I found both a software suite and just the drivers themselves on the Killer website. I first tried the whole suite, but it didn't really work very well, felt unnecessary, and basically didn't seem to actually install any drivers. I then used the actual .inf file for my Ethernet Adapter to install manually. I uninstalled the driver and software, and then installed the driver manually through Device Manager by saying "have disk" and navigating to the folder and selecting the .inf file I downloaded. This works, but I have to repeat the process of uninstalling and reinstalling the driver every time I restart Windows.

There are additional variables that could also contribute to the problem. I am using one of those adapters that plug into the electrical outlet to extend the Ethernet line to reach my basement. I don't know if this really should have any effect on my problems, but I figured I should mention it. The product is made by TP-LINK. I also have VPN software on my computer, and part of running the VPN software is having it install a "TAP-Win32 Adapter V9" driver under Network adapters in Device Manager. This could be contributing to my problems, but I do need to have access to my VPN. I did not experience this problem at all under Windows 8.1 using the driver install disc that came with my motherboard.

Computer Doesn't Reboot Back After Restart

Jan 21, 2016

I just currently started having this issue. My computer runs completely fine. However I applied recent windows 10 upgrades and I for some reason had to restart I cant remember why. However after the initial restart the computer simply stayed on and didn't initiate boot. I then turned off the computer and turned it back on. It boots fine, no problems. However if I set the computer to restart from the start menu it will but it wont boot back. It will just stay on and make a louder fan noise but wont reboot?

But i cant do that if I'm unable to login to my desktop. And actuallt i DID reach safe mode trough F8 but i screwed it, I changed the resolution in system settings, cuz i could not reach the graphic driver... so i restarted my computer without any profit, and now i can't get back to safe mode either...

BSOD :: Driver Power State Failure On Sleep / Hibernate / Restart Or Shutdown

Dec 24, 2015

Every time I try to put put my laptop to sleep, hibernate, restart it or shutdown, it stalls for about 10 minutes before giving me a Driver Power State Failure.

Having installed "WhoCrashed" and "Windbg", I was able to determine it was related to "ntkrnlmp.exe", "ndis.sys", "raspppoe.sys" and a vpn driver at one point or another. I "believe" I managed to uninstall the offending vpn driver but of course still overall have the same issue.

This appeared to occur while trying to do a windows update last week but I can't be sure. I presume, there is a out of date or corrupt driver but just can't seem to determine which one.
