Networking :: Cannot See Computers On Network Shares

Feb 10, 2016

I have 3 computers on the network. All have shared folders . My problem is as follows.

Lets call the computers c2, c3, c4. I am using network shares

When on computer c4 , computers c2 and c3 are not listed at all under network. Sometimes I do see c3 listed but cannot access it.

In computers c2 and c3 , all computers are listed and I can view all the shared folders in c2 , c3 including those on C4.

I cant understand why c4 have such problems viewing other computers on the network. I have rebooted router ( E4200) and computers but still have same problem .

All shared folders are properly shared. and no passwords are required for networks in adv sharing .

Networking :: Unable To Map Network Shares?

Nov 15, 2015

I've got 2 Western Digital Network drives hard wired on my network, a My Book World and an EX2.

Since upgrading to Windows 10 I've had intermittent problems viewing and setting network drives. I've read a lot of other posts and tried a number of things suggested without success.

The WD Discovery tool finds the Network drives, but the box to map network drive is greyed out. I can access the desktop control panel from my browser. If I try to add a network location the drives are not listed. If I try to add the drive letter WDMYCLOUDEX2Public the network path is not found?

I have another Windows 10 computer on the network which can access the drives without issue - so it must be a setting on my PC. Tried disabling my Kaspersky security - still not being seen? I suspect that this has been as a result of a windows upgrade?

Networking :: Cannot Access Windows Network Shares

Three machines:

Surface Pro 4 - fully updated
Surface Pro 3 - Windows 10, fully updated
Lenovo X220T - Windows 8.1 Fully updated

All three machines can see all available network devices, including each other. All three machines can successfully access and interact with third party network devices. In this case, it is a NAS and a network printer. The windows 8.1 machine can access each of the other windows 10 machinesNeither Windows 10 machines can access any other windows share on the network.

This gets me error 80070035 with diagnostics telling me nothing

All three machines are on a Homegroup and while each can see, no one can access anything

Trouble shooting tried:

Networking :: Can't See Other Computers On Network

Jan 4, 2016

I have two Win 7 computers on my wired network and 6 Win XP computers on this same network. This main computer was Win 7 and just upgraded to Win 10 in November. For a year this network has worked just fine, plug and play basically when I set it up, now after Christmas shutdown (2 weeks), I can't see any of the computers on this network. The only thing I can see is the media drive on a computer called 6Head2. All I really do is transfer files from this main computer out to those 8 other computers.

What is wrong with my computer? Network discover, file sharing all checked, network location was changed from Public to Private today by me. But it did work last year, even with the network location being public.

Networking :: Cannot Access Other Computers On Home Network

Oct 10, 2015

I have a desktop and a laptop setup at home, I have recently upgraded both to Windows 10. Both were previously running Windows 7 Home Premium and could identify each other on the network and I could access files on either PC from one or the other at any time. With the upgrade to Windows 10 I am still able to see the other machine on the local network, but I am unable to access their folders and move files between machines. The error message I get is as follows. When I run the network diagnosis no errors are detected and it asks me if I want to explore other options.

The full error message is:I do have shared libraries available across both machines that are part of my homegroup, so I can access the video files in the hard drive of my desktop from my Laptop but only to play them - not to move them around.I suspect this is either a user validation issue, or a firewall issue and I'm not sure how to go about checking whether this is the case or not.

Networking :: Computers In Network Not Showing Up Correctly

Dec 2, 2015

I recently upgraded the 3 machines on my home network to windows 10 home.

Currently when I open up "this PC" and click on network, only one of the 3 computers shows up, and this machine is not the local machine on 2 of them. However If I type in the UNC address for the other machines I can access them.

If I set up a home group all the computers show up in the home group roll out under "this PC" but still not in the network.

Something else that is strange. If I look at "network and sharing center" two of the the computer see one private network name and the other one sees a different name.

Networking :: Suddenly Stopped Seeing Other Computers On Network

Nov 17, 2015

I have two desktops and a NAS drive on my network. Both PC's are Win10. One Pro, the other Home. Everything was working beautifully then out of nowhere the Home machine just stopped accessing the public folder on the Pro machine saying it didn't have permission. I thought the Public folder didn't need permissions if it's shared with Everybody. But it will access and read the other non-public shares on the Pro machine. Weird The Pro machine, however, doesn't even see the Home machine on the network any more, although I can ping it. Again, weird. I had a mapped drive to the Home machine which is now broken. Both PC's can see and access the NAS drive. No settings were changed, nothing was touched, it just worked one minute and stopped the next. The Pro machine was just updated to Build 10586.3 on 11/13/15. But I don't think that caused it because everything worked until the 17th. All the network settings were correct and they have not been changed. I can't find anything about it on the internet except the typical "Make sure Network Discovery is on and file sharing is enabled." Yes, Network Discovery is on and file and printer sharing is enabled on both machines. Still no go.

Networking :: Computers Suddenly Missing On Network?

Jan 22, 2016

Our home network has a desktop and 3 laptops. The 3 laptops all print through the network to the printer attached to the desktop.

For some reason only 1 of the laptops now shows in the desktop network folder. The other 2 have vanished and cannot see the desktop either so no printing. I have tried running both Homegroups and using names & passwords but no difference. I also have a server on the network and that has vanished.

I have checked the credentials and all passwords and names are correct.

I have removed Avast anti-virus and have Windows firewall set to default settings running with Defender.

Windows 10 is the latest version 1511 on all the PCs.

Networking :: Network Folder Cannot See Some Computers But Can Access Them Fine

Feb 10, 2016

I have a strange issue on my Windows 10 computer: I can only see 1 computer under my home network, but other computers do not appear at all. However, I can access them fine typing in the address bar manually.

Also, for some reason, "LEESERVERPC" does not appear on my network folder, but it appears on the left pane. Is this a Windows 10 issue? Other computers are running Windows Server 2012R2 or Windows 7 and they easily find all computers in the network. I rebooted and resetted my router countless number of times. Refreshing doesn't seem to do anything.

Background: Originally, my Windows 10 computer was seeing all the computers in the network. As I was trying to set up another computer on the network, I refresh my network several times from my Windows 10 computer, and all a sudden all the computers except 1 disappeared on my Windows Explorer "Network". Every other computer in the network has no issues.

See Pic:

I want to emphasize that I CAN ACCESS the shared network computers. It's just that Windows Explorer's "Network" does not show most of the computers!

Networking :: Lost Network Computers After Connecting Via Ethernet

Jan 8, 2016

I have two computers running windows 10 and until recently they were both connected via WiFi, but recently after having problems with the WiFi my ISP told me the router should be connected to the master telephone socket.

Until they told me this the router was connected to a phone extension roughly halfway between my two computers, one downstairs and one upstairs. and it has been like that for almost a year with a reasonable speed to both computers, but just recently the WiFi speed has dropped so much it is almost impossible to use it.

So i have moved the router upstairs and connected it to the master phone socket and its so close to my PC i have used a Ethernet wire to connect to the computer and my download speed has doubled to the PC.

But one problem i have now is the other computer is now not visible on the network. so why when they were both connected via WiFi both were visible, but now one is connected via Ethernet and one WiFi they can not see each other.

Also now my router is upstairs the laptop downstairs connected via WiFi is so slow its useless. What to do i know i can get homeplugs but do they really work ...

Networking :: Shares No Longer Visible Can't See Other Shares

Feb 23, 2016

I just switched to a new router (from DLink DIR-655 to TP-Link Archer C7) and now my Windows 10 Pro cannot see network shares nor can others on the network see its shares. Prior to the router switch, it could see shares and others could see the shares it exposed.

The Win10Pro can see the internet. I can still ping other computers and they can ping the Win10Pro, just no Windows sharing. All computers are in the same Workgroup. I am not using a Homegroup; computer connections are made with user accounts.

The Windows 10 Pro is connected via wire. When I made the switch, I remember that Win10 came up and told me it had a new network and prompted whether to allow network discovery - to which I said yes. I thought that odd at the time since changing the router didn't change the NIC connection from the Win10 -- but whatever. However, it did change the IP address on the Win10Pro from what it was. But I've since rebooted all computers (thinking that might cause them to refresh) but no improvement.

Advanced Sharing Settings are set as:

Private: Network Discover = ON, File and Printer Sharing = ONAll Networks: Password Protected Sharing = ON, Public Folder Sharing = ON

Networking :: Samba Shares Don't Show Up

Nov 22, 2015

I was running Windows 7 on my laptop. I have a file server running Linux and Samba. When I open the Network icon in Windows 7, I see my server there and I can open it and access the associated folder shares.I upgraded to Windows 10. Now if I double click the network icon, I don't see any machines except my local client laptop. However, if I enter the UNC path to my samba server (myserver) into the path bar of Windows Explorer, I can access the server. If I want to add a network printer to my laptop that is shared by the server, it won't find the server in the search list. However, I can enter the literal UNC path to the printer and add it. So it has something to do with nmb I think? Not sure.

Networking :: Accessing Administrative Shares

Feb 10, 2016

I have a networked Windows 10 Pro computer A with built-in 'Administrator' account disabled. However, it has a "normal" administrator account named 'Admin'.

I would like to access administrative share 'AC$' from another computer B in the network. Windows asks me for access credentials. I enter 'Admin' and the corresponding password. This results in "access denied" error.

Hence the question: What's preventing the access?

My guesses are

1. (Unlikely: ) Administrative shares are accessible to the built-in 'Administrator' only.
2. (More likely: ) Administrative shares are accessible to a designated set of users and there's a way to control it. My homemade 'Admin' is not on the list.
3. (Most likely: ) Network access to administrative shares is completely disabled by default in Windows 10, but can be enabled somehow.

Networking :: Can't Write To Unix CIF Shares

Jan 4, 2016

I have a Freenas Server (based on FreeBSD Unix) connected to my network. I can't get it to show up in file explorer untill I type "//000.000.000.000" (it's IP address). When I try to drag a file to the window CIF shares (Permissions in Unix are Allow Guest Access and Recursively set sane default windows permissions on share) I get the error "You Need Permission to Perform this Action". Both of these features worked on Win 7 Pro before I did an upgrade to Win 10 Pro. I also did a fresh install of Win 10 Pro and it made no difference so I restored a Macrium image of the Win10 Pro Upgrade.

Networking :: SMB To Shares On USB Storage Does Not Work

Nov 29, 2015

I have several usb-connected drives and several SATA drives on a Win7Pro-64 system just upgraded to Win10. The only account on the machine is a local administrator account. On each drive I have a shared folder.

Where before I could connect via SMB/Samba from non-Windows networked devices using the local account credentials, I can now only access the shares on SATA drives. Any share on a USB drive is inaccessible to, say, ES File Explorer or Astro on a Android Tablet (although the share name can be read).

I can still access all shares from another Windows 10 machine. All devices have the proper Workgroup.

Clearly there is some SMB policy change in Windows 10. I've seen one fix for network drives but it doesn't seem to apply here (and also doesn;t work). Also not working is anonymous login to shares with with Everyone access, which also used to work.

Networking :: Homegroup - Accessing Shares Asks For Credentials?

Jan 26, 2016

Several PCs in my store.. some running W7 starter, some W10 Home pro.

A few days ago suddenly I could no longer access a folder on another W10 computer, where we tend to store a lot of important documents. The computer where the other folder is, runs also W10.

Shares are usually done vie HomeGroup - share with home group users.Other computers on the network have no problem accessing it. Furthermore, I can access it from another local account on my computer, but not from my main account (which is a MS account)..It asks for credentials, although I am a homegroup user.. nevertheless I enter the other computer's only username and password (admin ones) and it still does not let me in. Try my own MS user and pass - also "wrong".

Tried leaving and joining the Homegroup.

Tried restarting network related services and setting them on Automatic.

Tried homegroup troubleshooter - says probable problem is with network, so should run Network troubleshooter.

I do so and it shows error:This network troubleshooter shows error: resource (peer to peer grouping) is online, but not responding to connection attempts.

Following the latter and some google searches, I tried adding DisabledComponents" DWORD with "0"value in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetservicesTCPIP6Parameters
But still NO-GO.

Networking :: Workgroup Shares Windows ID Versus Local Accounts

Nov 10, 2015

I have so far avoided using Windows ID login (except on a sacrificial VM I use for Windows Insider(*)) as I can no longer access the SMB shares that I have set up.

Is there any way for the two to co-exist? I can't get my head round using SMB shares and NTFS permissions with Windows Live ID - is it possible in any way at all, or have MS (as usual) given us a "new spiffy improved thing" which is actually none of the above?

Why can't I use a local login AND have have access to the Insider programme?

Networking :: Networking Computers That Are Running Different Versions

Jan 6, 2016

I have several PCs at home as well as music streaming devices such as Pure Sensia and Freecom MusicPal. The PCs run a mix of Windows 7 HP and Ultimate all 64bit. I use Serviio to share music to the streaming devices and PCs. The PCs all use password protected network shares, and I selectively share certain folders from different PCs to enable both simple file sharing and backup which are simple script driven processes.

All has been working reliably for years until (Dum-Dum-Dum!) Windows 10...
A new laptop arrives with Windows 10 preinstalled.

I've got it up and running but cannot work out how to add Microsoft cloud accounts, such as those directly linked to OneDrive, onto the windows 7 PCs to enable password protected sharing to and from this new laptop.

The accounts have the same usernames on each flavour of windows PC, but the windows 10 version also has an email.

Networking :: Printer Not Available To New Computers On LAN

Oct 16, 2015

I work for a small company, with a network of 25 users. We have recently replaced 4 of the users with new Intel machines.

All of the other machines on the network have retained their ability to print to the network printer after the Windows 10 update, but the four new machines cannot even see it.

I have tried the usual process of adding a printer using the wizard, and also tried locating the printer manually using the printers network address.

The closest I have got is a message telling me that the driver could not be located - i tried connecting the printer directly to a new machine in order to install the driver, before disconncting the printer and trying again through the network. I received the same 'No Driver' message.

It is worth noting that the printers access point to the network is via a Vista machine in the admin department.

Networking :: Can't See Other Computers In Workgroup

Jun 24, 2015

I'm finding Windows 10 enjoyable and pleasant for the most part.

Unfortunately, some things that are easy to find or to do (probably due to years of experience) in Windows 7 and 8/8.1 are not easy to find, assuming they exist at all, in Windows 10 build 10130. For instance, I've looked high and low for "Change PC Settings" and it is like the proverbial needle in the haystack.

My present problem is that I can't see other computers in my network/workgroup. They are visible to my Windows 7 and 8.1 computers. My network is set to private in Windows 10. Find devices is set to on.

I note that I can ping all my devices, Squeezeboxes, WDMycloud hard disk, chromecast, computers etc., and the squeezeboxes, Logitech Media Server , WDMYcloud and Chromecast are showing up as devices.

Networking :: Can't Get Internet Access On Two Computers

Feb 23, 2016

I have an issue on both my Windows 10 laptop and desktop PC. Both are DELL and new. Suddenly, my PC wouldn't connect to the internet using ANY wifi network. For this reason, I eliminated my WiFi modem - because the same issue happened when using my phone tethering. Using the Ethernet cable worked. Then a few weeks later my laptop has the same issue, but with this I can't plug in an ethernet port, because it dosen't have one. Both computers had IP Vanish VPN (probably nothing to do with it but thought I'd mention). I believe these issues happened after updates.

I've tried disabling firewall, antivirus, uninstalling Vanish VPN, using cmd from things I've seen recommended, updated network adapter on desktop.
