I just reinstalled Win10. Before doing so I could go directly to my password screen, without the previous window due to a tweak, and when I keyed in my password it would open automatically without having to press the "Enter" key. Now I must do so. My search has only found how to not have the first screen mentioned above but not the password part.

After updating both of my Toshiba laptops when I first boot my laptops they show the Toshiba but I can't press F2 to enter BIOS.
View 3 RepliesI got a new laptop with Windows 10 about a month ago. Used it several times over the last month, even yesterday. But this morning when I tried to use it, it will not let me enter my password. I can move the mouse, but that's all. I can't get to any other screens.
View 10 RepliesSome might say, Windows 10 home can be frustrating. Ok!, When my desktop goes to sleep, I have to enter my password on wakeup. I've searched all over the internet...and that includes www.tenforurs.com and printed out some thirty pages on how it can be done, but, no luck.
I have printed how to Make Windows 10 not require a Password on Wake. I went to Power Options in Control Panel, click the "Require a password on wakeup" on the left-hand side. Clicked on... "Change settings that are currently unavailable" link, then click the "Don't require a password " button, and made I saved it.
After the computer goes to sleep and I need to wake it up, it asks for my password. I've tried this at least dozen times in many different way according to some that post how to do it.
When the win 10 login screen comes up, clicking on the password box does nothing and the password cannot be entered. What do I do?
View 2 RepliesWindows 10 was forcing me to enter a password every time the computer booted up. I ran netplwiz, unchecked the box that said password was required, entered my password twice, then I shut down the computer (not just a restart, a complete shutdown). When I turned it back on it didn't ask for a password. But then after it was idle for awhile, when I woke it up it wanted a password again. How do I get rid of that?
View 3 RepliesI just upgraded my laptop from windows 7 to windows 10. Before I upgraded, my brother created an account for himself and windows 10 seems to think that his account was the main one. He didn't have administrator access, so now I'm locked out of everything that requires administrator access.
When I try to install new software, the security pop up happens, asking for an administrator password, but there is no field to enter a password.
I can't open the command prompt (windows -> cmd -> enter)
I can't switch accounts, logging out lists no other accounts.
How do I get administrator access back, and how can I make windows stop thinking I'm my brother?
I (think) successfully updated to Win10. But, when I went to start up I can't get past the hi there screen. The password box will not populate when I key in my password. I do not see an arrow or any indication that my mouse is working. Tried rebooting with keyboard disconnected then reconnected and no go.
View 6 RepliesHusband updated his laptop to Windows 10 several months ago. So far it's been good, and he likes it...that is until this morning. He opens the laptop...no internet connection. It shows our wifi network, but won't connect. He enters his password...says he needs to enter password for that device. Enter password from before Windows 10...no good. Enter password for micorstoft...no good.
Using my laptop (Windows 7) to find fix. I've tried: Troublshoot network connection by right clicking. Right Click won't work...nothing happens. Maybe keyboard language is wrong...no settings button available to look at keyboard properties. Try connecting directly to router...won't make connection. We've rebooted the computer a couple of times, to no avail.
Our phones are connected, my laptop is connected, our chromecast is connected, so we know it's not the router. There is something up with his laptop.
Playing ring around the rosey is not the best way to spend a Sunday morning. no internet connection = no ability to enter password = not able to troubleshoot internet connection = no internet connection = no ability to enter password.
Any way of making it so that when I press the Power Button on my Windows 10 desktop that the computer will power down without me having to click with the mouse to turn off various programs or clicking the "restart anyway" button that appears. I managed to do this with windows XP in the past. I think it might have been a registry alteration?
View 6 RepliesI just upgraded a new laptop to Windows 10 with the latest build. Everything was great until I rebooted after uninstalling some bloatware and now I can't get back into Windows. The login screen comes up and the only user account (admin) is listed, but there is no where to enter the password. This has be baffled.
I've been trying to get into safe mode, but the HP Envy 15 that I'm using doesn't seem to want to let me do that.
Since the latest update (It introduced the slide show of pictures on the lock screen. I think it is KB3124200) I haven't been able to press Enter or Space or any other key for that matter to "slide up" the lock screen photo to get to the password screen. I've looked through the lock screen settings, but I see nothing that could prevent this.
View 2 RepliesWindows 10 is simply not able to enter sleep mode. Whenever I try, the monitor shuts off, but the computer power does not. When I move the mouse, the log-in screen appears (as it would when your computer comes out of sleep).I looked at Windows Event Viewer, and this is what I found for my attempt to sleep just a moment ago (Event 10016, DistributedCOM):"The application-specific permission settings do not grant Local Activation permission for the COM Server application with CLSID {D63B10C5-BB46-4990-A94F-E40B9D520160} and APPID {9CA88EE3-ACB7-47C8-AFC4-AB70 2511 C276} to the user NT AUTHORITYSYSTEM SID (S-1-5-18) from address LocalHost (Using LRPC) running in the application container Unavailable SID (Unavailable). This security permission can be modified using the Component Services administrative tool."
I went to these IDs in regedit, and attempted to change their security permissions. I received an error message saying "Unable to save permission changes on {9CA88EE3-ACB7-47C8-AFC4-AB702511C276}" (or the CLSID).Looking at the above CLSID registry entry more closely, I find that it corresponds to a program called RunTimeBroker.exe. The official Windows website has instructions on how to change the permissions for this program, namely, by opening Component services, going to RunTimeBroker, opening its Properties, and adjusting its Access Permissions in the Security tab.
The problem comes about after using the online feedback form that comes with Windows 10. The feedback form requires that the user log in before posting. However it does not appear to give the user the option to log out again. For some unknown reason, whenever I have used the feedback app then shut down the computer and rebooted, Windows boots to the calendar screen. When I click on that screen it changes to the dark blue password login screen and asks me for my password. I have never had a password!
I was so thrown by this last time it happened that I did not consider that it was asking me for my online Microsoft password. But this is exactly what it wants. This time I typed in my online Microsoft password and hey presto it continued to boot to Windows. The problem is I am now stuck in an infinite loop of having to click on a calendar screen and enter the password every time I boot up.
It seems that Windows 10 is somehow confusing my online password with an offline password and is expecting the online password to be entered offline in order to log in.
Any way to log out of Microsoft feedback app permanently? I tried going online and logging in and out of the Microsoft webpage, but this did not solve the problem. I do not want a password to log in. I just want Windows to boot to the main screen as it did before.
I recently upgraded to Version 1511 of Windows 10 Home. I have been using it for almost a week without problems, but all of a sudden this morning it is booting to a picture screen showing the date and time.
When I click on the screen it changes to a password page. The thing is I have never had a password. I have tried leaving it blank and clicking OK, but it will not accept this. So I am in effect being shut out of Windows. How can I get back to Windows?
I have my laptop at work and have had no trouble connecting the company WiFi (they have Guest WiFi and a WiFi where you need to enter your company provided Username and Password). I have been connecting using my Username and password. Today I had to change my company login password. Now when I try to connect my laptop I get a "can't connect" message because the password saved in my laptop is no longer valid. But I can't find a place in Win10 to enter my new password.
I remember the first time I logged onto the company WiFi a Windows popup came up asking for my Username and Password (which was saved so I didn't need to enter it again - until now). This time not getting the popup - it just says "can't connect".
I'm having some issues with my PC I have never had before. The computer is a personal rig I have personally worked on, but these last weeks some problems started appearing.
Problem 1) Had this problem for months, I think this problem also escalated to create
problem 2) I cannot "restart" my computer. Do I want to restart? I would have to shutdown and then start it up again.
When I press restart, it starts logging off, shutting down, and when my screen go blank (no signal, pc lights/fans = on) it just stays there for ever. Tried waiting once but after 4 hours I gave up.
When I start my computer I get my BIOS screen. After the BIOS timer, the boot screen gets taken over by Windows 10 with it's loading circle.
My computer stays loading here for about 8-10 minutes and then it continues booting like normal.
I am willing to follow many steps to find out this problem!! I suspect maybe unfinished installations or my other HDD interfering with the initial boot?
Also, could this problem be caused by a PSU failing? (My oldest pc component)
My windows is now on my main ssd (samsung evo 500gb) - I also have a ocz 250gb and western hdd 1tb which I had windows on previously (user files still on, no boot)...

View 9 RepliesSince I have installed Windows 10 (reluctantly) my laptop keeps switching off whilst I am working with it.
I have an old Thinkpad and have set so the power settings so it never sleeps whether on battery or mains. However, it is always plugged into the mains and I never use it with the battery.
This may be a red herring but I do have Microsoft Solitaire going most of the time, so wondering if it could be a potential cause.
I have a stand-alone .exe file, which I would like to start automatically during booting. Putting a shortcut in the W10 startup folder does not do the job.

I tried running RegEdit from CMD from Repair DVD, but "load hives" is greyed out!
Recently, my computer has been very strange... I have been having unwitnessed BSODs (showing up in the reliability monitor), lots of hardware errors in the reliability monitor and multiple programs stopping working. The troubleshooting steps I took to try to solve these issues were: updating all drivers, testing ram with memtest86+ (8 passes OK), testing the hard drive with Sea Tools (all ok) and refreshing windows 10.
A couple of days ago, I experienced my start menu, Cortana all "apps" etc. not working. So, I logged off, only to find a black screen with a cursor! The only way to turn off was to do a hard shut down. After turning back on again, I got the usual windows start up screen and normal "AVG watchdog starting up" text (see attachment). However, my computer freezes at this stage. AVG stops at finished and the computer freezes!
After trying to boot into safe mode, I simply get the black screen and cursor again.
Luckily, I have all files backed up and other computers to use, but I am really concerned about the root cause of my problems as I have had similar errors in previous installs of windows.
Just to preface this I have not received a BSOD when this happens so I hope I'm still posting this in the correct location. However my laptop just freezes completely and I have to do a hard shutdown (holding the power button until it shuts off) whenever I wake my laptop up from sleeping or even when I cold boot it.
I have checked Event Viewer and I see that I have a couple of recurring errors, the first being:
"DCOM got error "1084" attempting to start the service lfsvc with arguments "Unavailable" in order to run the server:
{08D9DFDF-C6F7-404A-A20F-66EEC0A609CD}"
Wit the second being: "The Computer Browser service depends on the Server service which failed to start because of the following error: The dependency service or group failed to start."
However I am able to boot into safe mode just fine, even safe mode with networking and everything behaves normally. I have tried a clean install as this started happening after doing the upgrade from Windows 7 so I figured a clean install would clear up the issue if it was an issue with it upgrading.
My computer has hidden or lost the start up button.. The icon is missing from my start up screen.. I haven't the ability to use the f keys either they produce nothing.. All of the things I previously installed as also absent.. My windows computer four window icon produces nothing as well , having to manually shut it off..
