User Folders On Separate Drive Take Forever To Load

Jul 9, 2015

I'm trying to access my user folder on a different hard drive, but it takes forever to load and then afterwards does nothing. I think I've already set all the permissions and stuff but it still isn't working.

Apps :: Store Taking Forever To Load?

Sep 26, 2015

Ok, I loaded the Windows 10 Store. Next thing I got to know, there is no 'Open' or 'Install' button on the Windows 10 Store, along with the Windows 10 Store taking forever to load.

How do I fix this Windows 10 Store madness? I just fixed my Start Menu some days ago, so the Windows 10 Store might be mad at me for removing the Windows 10 Store icon out of the taskbar, too.

Installation :: Data On Separate Partition Or Drive

Jun 29, 2015

Wondering how Windows 10 deals with putting data on a separate partition or drive. Does it use the same general method as in Windows 7, where it re-maps (for example) "Documents" to a folder on a different letter drive path? So that C:Users{user}Documents becomes G:Users{user}Documents?

I'm hoping that it actually becomes more like *nix, using symbolic links to point to the right place (so C:Users{user}Documents points to the separate partition of drive). Personally, I find the Win7 method to be clunky and problematic in actual use.

Can Refresh Windows And Then Have New Install On Separate Drive

Jul 31, 2015

What I'm planning to do is upgrade my rig with an SSD, but I don't really want to lose my files. Is there a way to refresh Windows, and have the "refreshed" install and my files on a separate drive than what Windows was originally installed on?

Performance :: Move Recovery Drive To Separate Partition?

Mar 5, 2016

I created the USB recovery drive successfully with the option "Back up system files to the recovery drive".
Since I needed the USB for another purpose, I transferred the files from the USB to a separate partition on an external HDD and made this drive bootable using YUMI.

So now, on the same laptop, I am able to boot to this new partition on my external HDD where windows recovery environment comes up just fine. I did not want to test the reset or refresh part. Out of curiosity, I clicked on the "System Restore" option on the advanced options screen. I got an error message "To use system restore, you must specify which Windows installation to restore. Restart this computer, select an operating system and then select System Restore"

Account Disappeared - User Sign In Failed To Load

Dec 2, 2015

After being locked out of my account I tried to add a new user on the cmd prompt so I could gain access to reset my password however when I try to sign in to the new account it say 'user sign in failed to load', I tried to change my password via cmd prompt as well but it comes up with 'an internal error has occurred ' and now my original account has disappeared off the login screen altogether I can not do a clean install as I have work on there that I need! How to just gain access?? I have got a new HDD coming anyway for Christmas so I could potentially do a fresh install on there however because I upgraded from Windows 7 to 10 I'm not sure it will allow it onto a new hard drive?

Networking :: Changes User Rights On Folders?

Sep 27, 2015

I am running a multiboot W7-pro and W10-pro with several harddisks build in the computer to discover that after W10 used a disk W7 wants to check it to find no errors. Beside that I am not allowed to delete some folders I created in W7 after using them in W10 and they are set to free for use for everybody.

W7 now askes me to get permission from that everybody. I think they mean the W10-everybody. Understand that security is important nowadays but this is becoming a disaster! Also discovered that running the backupapplication Cobian (that always did a perfect job in W7) now is not allowd to acces lots of files in W7 anymore after W10 did ?????something??????.

Another example: I have two SATA backup 1 Tb Disks I switch every few weeks. W10 refused to see the new one after the first switch. Had to go deep into settings to carefully trying to open its content again as W10 told me zero bytes were used. In the end the 900 Gb data was there again but I have forgotten all the steps needed to fix it.

My best guess is that beside Microsoft is messing around with accounts and rights to get full control of your computer. They do not want you to be in control yourself anymore and you have to (must) only use W10 in the future. I am starting to feel a big fool that upgraded to W10 as I am loosing control over my PC's and home-network day by day!!!!

I have tried to relocate them to different places but when I do it for Films for example Pictures folder also move to the new location. How do I divide them?

Accounts :: SYSTEM Owns User Folder On Drive D

Dec 3, 2015

I recently installed Win10 on a C SSD and set a D hard drive for my data. I have assigned default save to be D. FYI, I do have a C:User[name]Documents, Pictures, etc. also.

However, I found that on my drive D, there is a D:[name]Documents, Pictures, etc. So I included the sub folders into the Library. However, the D:[user]Documents folder does exist but I cannot change the permissions at all (Read Only). It is owned by the System.

Don't I need to take ownership back to make use of it? But how? Or do I just leave it alone. Right now, all save documents are going to C:[user]Documents. Other D:[user] sub folders, i.e., Pictures and Videos, are writable.

Recovery Backup Options For User Who Upgraded From Initially Win 8.1 Without CD / DVD Drive

Jan 25, 2016

We were all excited to get Win 10 and did a clean install, and finally after some time got everything worked OK. At least for my Lenovo Y40-80 it took some time. Now that I am adding software to focus on using most of this laptop. I wanted to make sure I create a system image that is this time in Win 10 to restore if something messes up in the near future.

However, this was a win 8.1 pc and never had win 10 restore in its restore partition that is the built-in Lenovo Restore & It has no CD/DVD Drive to create Natural Win 10 Repair Disc to boot from. So I am trying now to create a "Recovery Drive" on an external USB to keep however since I can't create a Win 10 Repair disc without CD/DVD Drive, how am I going to have access to this Win 10 backup if I have to restore to this point??

Finally I also don't have any clue that; even if I took the risk, and restored back to original Win 8.1 - is it going to be possible to pass again to Win 10 clean install.

Will it be possible without any Win 10 key? What key it passed on to when it did clean install to Win 10 this past september when I did my free upgrade...

How to manage to create a win 10 native backup and were able to restore it without having to go back win 8.1 partition.

Empty Folders In One Drive?

Jan 6, 2016

I successfully transferred all my files and data from my old computer (windows 7) to my new computer which uses Windows 10,using "laplink". It placed all the files in "one drive". I set up a local account initially rather than a Microsoft account. So far so good. I then wanted to change my local account to a Microsoft account, which proved somewhat difficult. I ended up creating a new Microsoft account for myself, so I have now got 2 accounts for myself-one local and one Microsoft. In the Microsoft account, however, when I look into file explorer I seem to have lost about 95% of the files I transferred from my old computer. The folders are there but when I click on them it says "folder empty". I would eventually like to delete the local account but am afraid if I do so I may lose most of my photogrphs and music files.

Performance :: Backup With System Image Failed Because User Files On 2nd Drive

Oct 9, 2015

I have been trying to setup a scheduled backup (Windows 7 Backup and restore) on Windows 10. I want to include a system image of the C: drive as part of the back up and save it to the D: drive. However Windows wont let me save the image on the D: drive, I think because I moved the location of my user files to the D: drive to save space on my SSD.

Any way to override or workaround this without having to move my files back to the C: drive?

Old Versions Of Files And Folders On 2nd Drive

Aug 26, 2015

I have decided to migrate to Win10 while maintaining my Win7 system until I'm sure (on the same box). Win 10 is installed on a new SSD, Win7 on an old SSD, with all my files held on a 1TB drive so I planned to just save any files I needed, like brower shortcuts on the storage drive.

In Win 10 I have had no issues viewing the files on this drive until today. I have a simple text file for storing information about the migration, and I can open it, but only see an old version of the file. It is fine in Win7. New files and folders I create in Win7 are not visible in Win10 at all now. What am I missing given all the old files created in Win7 are working fine?

E.G. If I boot into Windows 7 and create a folder on the root of the storage drive, called test, then boot into Windows 10 from my other SSD not only can't I see the test folder, I can create a folder named test. I've not booted into Win7 yet to see if I can see that from there.

Updates :: Random Folders Appearing On C Drive?

Aug 19, 2015

I have a few Windows 10 systems with clean installs (not upgraded) whose C: drives are filling up with random hex named folders; over 50K of them. From what I have read, this could be related to temporary update folders, but they are not being deleted. The folders are named something like "00b332a3dcbf71fb88" and contain 0K of data, but they are extremely annoying.

What these folders could be and if there is a way to either stop these folders from appearing or at minimum, to redirect them to another location not on the root of the C: drive? If these are related to Windows updates, I will not be able to shut those off as these systems are all part of a group policy that keeps them on. I can shut down that policy, but prefer not to have to do that.

Move Quick Navigation Folders On Left Explorer From SSD To D Drive

Aug 3, 2015

I recently got an SSD, with my old HDD set as a storage. I was trying to move the quick navigation folders on the left of Windows Explorer from the SSD to the D: drive (HDD).

However, with the 'My Music' shortcut, I accidently moved it to just the D: drive, rather than a folder within the D: Drive. This means the 'My Music' now directs me to straight to the D: drive, and when I try and move it, Windows says access is denied.

Lost All Permissions And Control Of Files / Folders After Plugging In Second Drive

Dec 9, 2015

I plugged in the hard drive from my wife's PC into my own PC (both windows 10) so I could try to recover some files from it (as it's currently not booting into windows). As soon as I booted my PC back up I could see the second hard drive was there but since then I've been experiencing all sorts of issues. I am still an administrator but I just don't seem to be able to do anything - it's hard to describe, but I can't move or change or delete ANY files or folders on my system, I can't move files to or from an external drive for back up, on the desktop the right click menu doesn't come up at all and on files/folders it has no ability to access properties.

Also, whilst most programs still open normally, any Microsoft Office programs just don't do anything at all when clicked on. It's as if I have lost all control over making any changes on my PC.I assumed that the two drives were conflicting in some way so removed the second drive but the problems are still there.

Apps :: Photos App Doesn't See Images Located In Google Drive Folders

Feb 10, 2016

I backup photos from my phone to Google Photos which then automatically syncs them to my hard drive to a folder in Google Drive. The folder containing these images in Google Drive has been included in the Pictures library, but the Photos app doesn't see them and says "No readable photos, videos or folders found." I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the Photos app. The pictures show up fine in Windows Photo Gallery. Does the Photos app has always ignored images in Google Drive or is this a recent development?
