Feb 23, 2016I cant seem to run MS Windows and Office auto updates (or manual).
keep getting the following message
'Updates are available, but we temporarily need 489.48 MB-489.48 MB of space to download. Remove some things you don't need right now and we'll try again.'
There is currently 10.6GB of free space on the system partition.
I have just (on Friday 20 Feb 2016) installed the Windows 10 upgrade from the MS site.
Took 6/7 attempts to finally get it done.
HDMI driver not working
Audio not working properly (keeps saying USB Audio playback default) I don't have anything plugged in. I have a realtek HD Audio installed.
Wifi is very flaky.....keeps disconnecting or reporting limited connection intermittently......15/20 times a day.
Running virgin Superhub, with 150mb pipe,
everything was working perfectly prior to the Upgrade from windows 7 sp1 to Windows 10.
Windows 7 Folder On Desktop
Aug 7, 2015I have read elsewhere that installing Windows 10 top of Windows 7 results in a windows.old folder, which does seem to exist on my computer.
Instead, I have, on the desktop, a folder, Windows 7, which seems to contain many of the files, etc., perhaps all such data, that were in Windows 7, such as all of the folders under Documents. I just looked at Documents in the Windows 7 folder, which even shows a file that I put into Documents in Windows 10 on 3August2015. In fact, looking at the folder,it looks just like what I see when I use the Windows 10 File Explorer from the icon on the task bar.
Windows Old Folder Delete Or Not?
Aug 4, 2015I did an in place W10 upgrade on my W8.1 machine and all seems well with the update-I haven't run into any major issues at all. However, I'm aware of the new 'windows.old' folder allowing me to roll back for 30 days since the W10 upgrade and in my case its large..very large..at 172gb.
My PC, which has a 250gb HD was almost full prior to the upgrade and I chose to 'keep nothing' during the process. As I understand it I can choose to delete this now, or indeed wait until the 30 day expiration.. so would this in effect be my 'clean install' ?
I don't remember this being quite the same with the 8/8.1 process where I DID start fresh with that install. If I delete the Windows.old file then that's a clean install really right? How close to 'clean' is it?

Feb 19, 2016Since a while i build my own computer, and i put some of my old hard drives in here, one of these drives contains a copy of Windows that i no longer use, But i cant remove it, and it is taking up quite a bit of space, i'm not talking about a Windows.old folder, but an actual Windows folder, now i was wondering if there is a way to remove this unused copy of Windows, i tried changing the owner to myself, and removing the read only tag, without much luck ...

Aug 15, 2015I still have problem with the runtime broker, which uses a lot of CPU and so on, even if nothing is running on the computer. Because of it, when I close the laptop, it can't turn of by itself and still uses a lot of CPU, which will cause a problem one day... I know the idea of the application or whatever it is called (runtime broker) and it is supposed to take just a one or maximum two-three percentages of CPU, but it is not like that with me.
I have tried this one: How to disable runtime broker on Windows 8 RTM - YouTube and as well to go in the registry and set some value from 3 to 4, I don't really remember the exact things, I just saw a topic in some forum about it and the people there said, that it works. BUT not really for me.. I will add a screenshot of my task manager to see, what do I mean:
Performance :: Taking Too Long To Boot
Dec 21, 2015I know there are several threads by this name, but my problem, as far as I know, is quite peculiar and I haven't seen anything similar to this in any thread. Yesterday I did a clean install (actually I wiped the whole hard drive and converted it to MBR since it was in GPT and Windows wasn't letting me install it on GPT filesystem) of Windows 10, and installed all the necessary drivers and the basic essentials. I don't know exactly when but after I was done doing some housekeeping, my Windows started taking too long to boot. What happens is that it shows the Windows loading screen (like in the image attached), does the boot animation for about 5-10 seconds, then blinks the screen momentarily, and then shows the Boot animation screen again. But this time, the loading circle animation is really choppy and the pixels seem to be slightly blown out. Then it takes a good 1-2 mins at that screen and then shows the blue screen with loading animation, shows it for another 15-20 seconds and then shows the Login screen.

I notice also a "Windows Spotlight Background Taskhost" process relentlessly coming and going and taking resources together with Runtime Broker. Nothing seems to fix this and many other users are experimenting the same. This makes the computer hotter as the CPU gets no throttling rest.

Aug 17, 2015A few days ago websites began taking a very long time to load/respond. I was just browsing the internet when it happened (wasn't on any questionable websites). Other computers in our house work fine, so I know it has nothing to do with the router. I pinged a bunch of websites and they are taking anywhere from 1000-1500ms to respond. There were two instances where it only took 40 and 42ms to respond.
Usually the page will act like it's loading, then just stop as if I never clicked on anything. Then five or 10 seconds later whatever I clicked on will pop up in no time. Also, on iTunes when previewing songs I'll get the pop up that says opening url/connecting, then the song may or may not play. I've also had the pop up that says there's no network connecting.

How To Gain Access To The Windows Apps Folder
Nov 26, 2015I already googled it and every tutorial is the same. When I go to do it, it doesn't work. I don't have a Microsoft account. I specified a local account user name. This is what I'm selecting as owner. The computer is not transferring access to the user im selecting.
I want to gain access to this folder, because this folder is on my friggin data drive!?!? I have a 1Tb drive partitioned into 3. The OS is installed on one partition, I install all my programs on the second partition, and I save all my crap on the 3rd partition. Well, I found the windows apps folder on my data partition and I want it out of here. I want it to go back to where ever it came from. I think when I was messing around with all the windows settings, under storage I specified that everything is saved to my data drive, even apps. I dont use apps. I dont want this folder on my data drive.

Nov 4, 2015I waited for Windows 10 to get rid of Windows .old and Windows.~BT folders but it never happened. If the scheduled task for disk cleanup is supposed to do it I discovered the task will only run on my laptop when I am plugged into power and only if the system is idle. That does not happen very often on this laptop.
So I decided to use the disk cleanup app built into Windows to remove previous operating systems and installation files. It got rid of the Windows.~BT folder and emptied the Windows.old file of everything except one folder within Windows.old for something in folder AMD64_prnLx00.inf..... and file Lxktptprc.dll.mui. I can not delete or rename it and I have the correct privileges. This laptop has dual boot with Windows 8.1 on one side and Windows 10 now on the other. Windows 10 upgraded my W7Pro side over a month ago.
I got all my space back but would like to know if there is a way to finally remove the Windows.old folder.

Customization :: Start Screen Taking Over The Desktop?
Jan 8, 2016I am having a problem on Windows 10 where the desktop has been taken over by the start menu. I am no longer able to resize windows as one would on a desktop, but rather they are treated as apps. I will try to post some pictures of the problem. It is almost like Windows 10 has forgotten that it is not Windows 8 and has in addition deleted the desktop. I will try to post some pictures of what the problem looks like (the image in the background was my desktop background, now the remnant of the old desktop). I have tried changing the option in the settings->personalization->start->use full start screen, but to no avail. I have turned my computer on and off a number of times. The funny thing is that my other account on the same computer does not have the same problem, it still has the desktop fully functional.
