Won't Boot To USB Nor Disk

May 3, 2015

So I have a Toshiba Satellite C855D-S5303 that has had windows tech preview installed on it. But when I tried to boot into it, it said that the windows signature wasn't correct and it would continously going into that window. I then tried to install a newer version of the tech preview and ubuntu, but neither succesed (they were on usb.)

I also tried to install Windows 7 by a disk, but that didn't boot to either. I pressed F12 to boot into the boot order, select to boot into usb or disk and neither worked. I set usb to the first option and it didn't even boot to the usb. It might be the usb's that might not be bootable fully, but on my win7 pc i got all of them to successfully be read as bootable.

I booted into the bios serveral times and set the boot mode to CSM mode and UEFI mode but neither would boot from the usbs or disk. I have the InsydeH20 Setup Utility BIOS on my PC.

No Boot Disk Has Been Detected Or Disk Has Failed

Aug 25, 2015

So, after about 2 weeks of experiencing Windows 10 I've decided to revert back to Windows 8.1, since I was more experienced at it. So I followed every step to downgrade the system, waited for about a few hours, then I noticed that when Windows restarted, it somehow went to an "automatic repair" loop. I've tried literally everything there was so I can get it running again, but nothing seems to work. But, there was only one option, in which I feel like an idiot to try out.

I went to Command Prompt and typed in diskpart.exe, then enter. I then typed in LIST DISK, then SELECT DISK SYSTEM, and finally CLEAN. Since I thought at the time that CLEAN works like resetting the PC, I rebooted it again, and I came to an error message saying: No boot disk has been detected or the disk has failed. Is, or will there be any other way to start my PC in a condition like this? If I'm missing any other details then feel free to ask.

I make a USB flash drive with WINPE. and once the device starts into WINPE, it will automatically start to install windows 10 by calling "dism /apply-image". Normally i just shutdown the computer after installation, but now i want to reboot the device and boot into the windows i just installed. But i can't, because if i reboot the device, it will boot into WINPE again and start another turn of installation of windows. How could i temporary boot into my windows 10?

Dual Boot Without Disk

Jul 31, 2015

I'm planning to download the iso, or whatever file it is from the Microsoft website, and install it using that. (I never got the taskbar notification,.how I can make a dual boot on my second hard drive using that download (another thread I made, I've gotten the hard drive working and want that to be my dual boot, not having two operating systems on one hard drive)

I would like Windows 10 on my second, completely wiped hard drive.Unless I'm able to use my Windows 7 disk to install it on the second hard drive, and use the Windows 10 download to upgrade it on that hard drive in particular?

100% Disk Usage On Boot And At 12mb/s

Dec 8, 2015

I upgraded to windows 10 when it came out.. however many months ago it came out.. 3? I was running this "WD Black 3TB Performance Desktop Hard Disk Drive - 7200 RPM SATA 6 Gb/s 64MB Cache 3.5 Inch - WD3003FZEX" (copied directly off amazon) for about a year before that. But soon after upgrading to 10 I've been suffering from huge amounts of disk usage. 100% at just 12mb/s PC takes forever to boot and ages to load/transfer things. I've just lived with it for a while.

Anyway. I was reluctant to start anew on a new HDD. So I bought another of the same model.. asuming it had just pooped out. As it runs pretty hot. Hotter than I'm used to a HDD getting. But this new one runs hot right of the box as well. After cloning my system onto the new one I have the exact same issue. I no longer think its hardware related. Is there any way out of this without starting formatting and starting all over?

I'll mention I ran a fresh install of windows on the new HDD before cloning onto it. Ran fine then. And I dunno if its relevant or not but since this problem began my audio will sometimes cut out for several seconds before popping back on.

Installation :: Cannot Make Rescue Disk That Will Boot

Oct 5, 2015

I have just upgraded a machine from windows 8.1 to windows 10 and I can't make a rescue disk that will boot.

The creation of the disk goes perfectly, right to the end. And when I reboot the machine it says the disk is not bootable.

I tried other boot disks I have here and they all work. What am I missing on this Windows 10 system?

Boot Disk - Unlocking Hard Drive

Jul 22, 2015

Two nights ago, I had a brief power outage at my house. Since then, my Windows 10 preview installation will not boot. It keeps giving a boot disk error. I first tried booting from my Build 10166 disc created from ISO and running the startup repair. I've seen errors using this tool on previous Windows versions, but the computer quickly rebooted, so I thought it was successful without errors. Nope, I still get the boot disk error message.

I booted again with my installation disc and tried running the "Refresh" option. This time, I get a message that the drive containing my Windows installation is locked and that I should unlock it before trying again. How I can unlock the drive? Unless I figure that out, it sounds like I will have to perform a clean installation.of Windows 10, which I don't really want to have to do again.

Performance :: Slow Boot Time And 100% Disk Usage

Nov 16, 2015

I've been having this problem for a long time, I've tried resetting my pc to factory settings, didn't work. I tried windows trouble-shooter, didn't work. When I boot I am greeted with a zoostorm logo for about 50 seconds followed by a black screen for 1 minute, and then a windows screen for about 30 seconds. Booting takes about 2-3 mins and even when I'm finally in, my programs load extremely slow and I can only open chrome after a minute otherwise it lags. Remember I have reset my pc so nothing runs on startup apart from steam.

I have a gtx 970 and the latest drivers for it. Also I get 100% disk usage when performing certain tasks. my cpu,gpu and memory never go to such percentage and if they do its because I'm running a very cpu,gpu or ram intensive game. I have not changed anything in my bios since I got my pc and have never done anything to the disk drive (all I know is my HDD is 3tb and has a speed of around 120mb/s) The only thing I have changed on my pc since I got it was an upgrade to windows 10 from 8.1, gtx 970 from a 750ti and a 750w power supply by corsair.

I do not know if this problem happened when I had windows 8.1 but even if windows 10 is the problem there must be a way to fix it as I despise using windows 8.1 anymore. Another thing to note is that loading times for games take a little longer than my friends and my pc is slow at downloading games, my disk usage when installing games is usually 13mb/s and I get 100% disk usage from using 13mb/s. As you can see by this screen shot steam is downloading fallout 4 and 14mb/s of my disk are being used and everything else barely reaches 1mb/s

I was having long boot time issues with windows 7. It was taking more than 5-6 mins for my pc to become responsive on desktop. Then I upgraded windows 10 today , issue still persisted. After that , I tried clean installing the 10.

I still have issues which are :

1)After Windows logo I have a black screen for a couple of minutes then logon screen comes. ( Last reboot : 1.5 mins )

2)After logon , my formatted pc takes some time to became responsive due the system and svchost processes using hdd %100.

(2mins after logon , usage goes down and pc is responsive)

I checked my HDD and it was fine when using win 7.

Remove All Volumes Of Dynamic Disk And Convert It Back To Basic Disk And Format

Nov 5, 2015

I have a configuration where win 10 is installed on SSD but the Users folder is on a dynamic disk on HDD and the linking is made by a hard junction link from C: to D. I have removed paging on D as well as protection. Hence, I am able to remove all volumes of the dynamic disk and convert it back to a basic disk and format it.The problem is that I would like to keep all my installed programs (and settings, preferably). I have copied the Users directory to an external disk and copied them back to D after conversion. This seems to lead to a nonfunctional situation where I cannot even add a new user and most programs (even not all windows tools) do not work. What would be the best approach to avoid reinstalling the programs and to keep existing users?

Installation :: Wrong Drive Letter In Msconfig / Boot In Dual Boot System

Jan 27, 2016

In my desktop I have two hard disks ( disk 0 and disk 1 ) . Disk 1 is a clone of disk 0 created by Macrium Reflect
Disk 0 : ( C: ) windows 10 pro , upgrade from windows 7 , ( E: ) windows 8.1 pro , ( G: ) Storage partition
Disk 1 : clone of disk 0

problem description : I see in msconfig / boot a wrong listing

windows 10 ( C:WINDOWS) : Current OS ; Default OS

windows 8.1 pro ( H:WINDOWS ) instead of ( E:WINDOWS )

Nevertheless the dual booting works fine as well as the shift between the disks via BIOS.

The question is , could I fix the situation using the EasyBCD of Neosmart Technologies to edit the bootloader ?

I see can change drive letter H: to E: and save the change , am I right or wrong ? or any other way ....

Reboot And Select Proper Boot Device Or Insert Boot Media After Installing From USB?

Nov 10, 2015

After installing a 32 bit windows 10 from a USB by mistake I decided to upgrade to the 64 bit version. I have 3 hard drives, one of which is an ssd that I am trying to install the OS to. After downloading and setting up the media creation tool and creating a USB I restarted and boot form USB.

I followed the steps and deleted the existing windows 10 partitions on my dad and tried installing straight to the unallocated space. After the installation completed it restarted the installer, which is not what happened when I previously successfully install windows 10. I then changed the boit order to have my ssd first and rebooted, which gave me the Reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media error.

Confused I loaded up the installed and there were correctly partitioned installs already on the ssd ( although one partition looked a little small). I tried reinstalling windows 10 with the same result over and over.

Installation :: Upgrade Path From Dual Boot Back To Single Boot

Sep 24, 2015

My laptop has dual boot - Windows 7 and Windows 10. My Win7 environment is my main working environment with lots of programs installed and important files. I installed the Win10 environment just to play around with 10 during the technical preview. Now, I would like to disable the 10 environment and upgrade the 7 to 10. Am I able to do this, or have I already "used up" my one upgrade on this computer's Windows license?

I notice that in Windows 7 I have not received the icon in the notification area that invites me to upgrade to 10. This makes me think I might have used up my chance to upgrade.

My end goal is to have a single Windows 10 environment. Note that the reason I want to upgrade my 7 environment to 10 is because I don't want to have to re-install all of my programs and files into the current 10 environment.

Recovery Drive Boot Fails With Missing Boot Configuration Data

Feb 2, 2016

When I try to boot from a recovery flash drive, it fails with: EFIMicrosoftBootBCD error status: 0xc000000f and message: The Boot Configuration Data for your PC is missing or contains errors.

The recovery flash drive was created on a Lenovo ideapad originally with Windows 8, now upgraded to Windows 10, latest upgrades applied. Checked the box for copying system files. Target drive was a 16GB DataTraveler flash drive formatted as FAT32. Creation ran to completion with no errors. When booting normally, Windows 10 runs fine with no issues. I tried re-creating the recovery drive with the same results.

I created a repair disk and tried to use bootrec to fix the issue, but I suspect it did nothing or fixed the c: drive. I ran boot rec while in the root directory on the flash drive.

Installation :: Turning Off Secure Boot / Fast Boot Required?

Apr 29, 2015

As I get ready to do a clean install of 10074 I am curious about the need to disable secure boot and fast boot options. If I do disable secure boot do I need to enable legacy boot?I have had limited success with previous installs to a 2nd hard drive and the problems that arose always seem related to dual booting.

In one instance I did a clean install of 10061 and had left secure boot enabled. In order to get dual boot working I had to disable secure boot, and upon rebooting I needed to change it back to secure. I then made Win 8.1 the default boot and then Win 10 would never boot from the menu, it would just take me back to the boot menu and I could boot into Win 8.1.

Installation :: Convert Dual Boot Install To Normal Boot

Jun 15, 2015

After several weeks of testing I'm ready to go full on Windows 10 and want to get rid of Windows 7 but I have some partitioning issues I want to clean up. I currently have Windows 7 on drive 0 (360 GB) and Windows 10 on drive 1 (500 GB). Both are SATA drives and RAID is enabled in the bios but not active.

What I think I'd like to do is simply swap the drives physically so that Drive 0 has my current Windows 10 install on it and make it primary boot active etc. The drive with Windows 7 on it would become drive 1 and I would delete the Windows 7 partition and re-partition it with a clean empty partition just for extra space.

Second question, any advantage to using this drive configuration in a RAID setup?

Installation :: Can't Re-establish Master Boot Record On Boot Drive

Dec 19, 2015

I have a legacy 64 bit dual core desktop (ASUS mobo). I have several Sata hard drives in it with the 4th partition of my 1 Terabyte drive containing my Windows 10 Professional boot OS. After converting another similar legacy machine to a NAS device I took the old Windows 10 32 bit OS drive from it and tried booting the ASUS machine with it. Needless to say, the OS didn't like it and reverted to Windows 10 Pro Insider Preview edition (build 11082).

When I tried to restore the boot drive to the original one for this machine the master boot was missing.

I had just formatted another partition on the same drive that had contained a Windows7 installation that had failed. This partition may have contained the master boot record. So I booted to a command prompt from a USB drive and successfully ran the following commands:

bootrec /RebuildBcdbootrec /fixMbr bootrec /fixboot bootsect /nt60 SYSbootsect /nt60 all

After that the BIOS just says "An operating system wasn't found. Try disconnecting any drives that don't contain an operating system" This disk and OS are on the original machine it used to run on. As I understand it, Windows 10 tries to record it's key to somewhere in the BIOS. But the BIOS on these old machines don't provide such a facility. I don't understand what Windows 10 OS does with the key in this instance. If it was recorded in the BIOS then I'd presume that the other Windows 10 drive I attempted to use would have found it and used it. Or perhaps not, since it didn't like the new environment.

what I'm looking for is a way to get my original Windows 10 to boot again on the same machine it had always work on before, from the 4th partition of the 1 terabyte drive I'm using.

Deleted Recovery And Boot Partitions Can No Longer Boot

Changing Boot Order With Secure Boot Enabled

Oct 27, 2015

Basically, I have a really bleepty BIOS that will only let me change the boot order with secure boot disabled and legacy boot enabled. I need secure boot because I just installed windows 10 onto a new drive and it won't activate. I have heard that this has something to do with secure boot being disabled. I still have the activated drive, which is the primary drive. Is there anything I can do to change the boot order?
