Modules & VBA :: How To Give User Limited Time Access To Certain Forms
Aug 26, 2013
I have database that i am working on , i want to give a user a time limited accsess ( one week ) to the reports section for example !!
after a certain date he will require a password or the report button will be inactive ...
-at program start up , it will check for today's date if it is greater or equal to (lets say ) 24-9-2013 then it will change a field in an X table from "yes" to "no" ,
-after that the code will check table X for the yes no field , if yes then open Form A if no then open form B / or make report button inactive
how to do that in VB ... and is there is a better way to do it ? can it be done in the macro builder ?
I want to give the user the ability to run a report but display records based on different user defined time frames. So when I run the report it allows (on the Enter Parameter Value prompt) user to enter 30, 45 60 etc (to represent days). The report then looks at all records with a start date in the next x days based on what user enters
For a separate report, I want to be able to run the same report but give user (based on drop down) ability to view all reports or only those from today's date only.
All, using 2010. I have a database that is split into FE and BE. The FE is on users desktop. The supervisor wants to give limit access to the database to one other user on the network without giving them access to the entire db. There is not an user table in the database or a login form at the moment. So what can I do to provide limited access to only one form?
Hi all How are you? I have a small problem... I have an access db called MainDB, which has tables, queries, data entry form. This db (MainDB) is located in the network server. I have another access db called BranchDB. This db (BranchDB) has no tables, it has linked tables to those tables from the MainDB, and it has the forms for view only (No Data Entry). The problem is that users from there local machines can not access the BranchDB at the same time. What can I do? Your help will be highly appreciated.
Hi I am a teacher using Access 2007 for the first time. I have downloaded and created a Student Info database which contains details of nationality, guardian's contact info, etc. I also have an Attendance Excel Sheet which calculates daily / monthly attendance in its most basic form. How do I link the cells that show the current attendance of each student to the Access db? Can I link it so that it appears on the db forms / tables / individual student page? Please advise. I'd appreciate the coming to me in painfully simple steps. I teach English and Humanities and am not well versed in computer language ... although I enjoy its challenges and use a lot of it for teaching and administratie purposes. Thanking you in advance, Kscape.
I have created a query using the query builder by concatenationg several fields using the expression builder. Once concatenated, the total number of characters is greater than 255, and is therefore truncated. Since this is a query field and not a table field, there must be a way around this limitation. I can't even create the query and dump the results into a memo field because the dump will still only contain 255 char.
I could probably create the query using VBA, which creates a table containg a memo field, which is then populated by a variable containing the concatenated fields, but I would like a simpler solution.
Any ideas on how I can generate a query field that contains more than 255 char? The query is used to populate a report.
In importing data from Excel 2002 to Access 2000, I have several columns of text data that has more than 255 characters; however, importing into Access does not give me the option to redefine those data fields from "Text" to "Memo". As a result, Access truncates the data to 255 characters.
Is there anyway to work around this issue by still using the Excel file? I have saved the Excel file as an HTML file and this seems to work, but it is an extra step that I would like to avoid.
Alright, I'm trying to read and parse a file that'll be outputted monthly by another system that i cannot change (csv would be my prefered choice) so i'll havta deal with what i got. I'm not entirely sure how to go about this, but my intent is to have a form in my database for a user to bring up a open "*.txt" which is a width limited text file. the other system outs puts this file with a header like the following:
Date: 06-08-06 [08:53] recdate4) Receipts by order, position and sequence Page: 1 CFM Production Company Comp: 100
Sorry about the ugly post of the outputted file, but it is width limited by 255 characters and has verticle bars and spaces sepearating the fields i want. I want to ignore the headings. in addition the column titles since i will already know where they're going to go (hard coding it). can someone explain how to parse line by line as a new record in access db?
I work at a Phamaceutical company in the US (based in London) and have a database that tracks atypical events. It has normally about 10 concurrent users and continually (once a week sometimes more sometimes less) corrupts. I have spent a lot of time validating the database writing the user requirements, functioanal and design specs as well as a 150 page IOPQ.
It is a split database with both front and back ends on a file server. I know this is not the best way to do it but the database is frequently updated with requests for new reports etc and I am not sure how to push down the front ends to all the use pcs. The database is about 40 mb.
I like the database. It is fully audit trailed and does what I need it to do, but the corruption thing is driving me batty. I have the jetutils with the viewer to see who is in the db (by pc name) and then I cross reference that to the person in the db and call them to get out. It is a real pain in the arse and I am just about ready to agree with the IT guys that Access is not a multi user database.
I have two tables, categories and items. I have a form that is linked to the categories table and a subform that is linked to the items table. The user selects a category on the main form then an item to add to the category on the subform. (all of this is functioning correctly - but you need to understand for my question.)
Both the form and the subform have a text box that displays a record from their respective table, for the example we will call this color.
What I need to do is create code that checks the color text box from the category (main form) against the text box for the item (subform) and if they are not a match I need to display a message box - from where I can then add the necessary actions.
EDIT: note this is not a query on an entire table or 2 it is just comparing the two text boxes on the form and subform
I have a table which holds information relating to a fleet of vehicles; each of these vehicles is currently physically checked on a daily basis for a number of items, one of which being to check that the vehicle has valid VED (tax disc).
With the paper disc being abolished now, we have a situation where the individual using the vehicle cannot be certain about its VED status (the chances of one not being taxed is next to nil, but we are talking a fleet of nearly 1000 vehicles here, so anything is possible)
Our current database has most of the vehicle information stored already, so in theory I think I only need to add a couple of fields, which will make the table structure (roughly):
Is it possible that when a Form (not related to the table, and most likely the main switchboard form) is opened that both the MOTExpiry and VEDExpiry dates are checked, and if either or both of them are due to expire within 7 days or have already expired that a warning appears (vbaOKOnly messagebox would do fine) stating that there are vehicles that require their MOT & VED dates to be checked and updated accordingly)?
I am developing a small database for use in a multi-user environment: I have split the tables off and am testing with two copies of the front-end on different machines. All seems to work well except on one form.
On this form, the value of a bound control (exposed as a number of radio buttons) is used to make related controls on the form visible or invisible. I use the AfterUpdate event to trigger appropriate VBA code to accomplish this; it works well.
However if two users have the same form open at the same record (unlikely, but not impossible), and User A changes the value of the control via the radio buttons, Access will eventually propagate the change to User B's copy of the form but the AfterUpdate event will not be triggered and the form becomes inconsistent. I understand that events are only triggered when a user makes a change to a control; how can I be alerted when Access makes a change?
I have recently started a project and become stuck already. I have a login form created that works (code below). What i want to do is allow access to the users of 1-7 in table (level of access) which will determine which page they view after logging in. IE if the have Access in table "Users" as "1" then when they log in the will see a form thats called L1. Same with 2,3,4,5,6 & 7.
Code: Private Sub LoginButton_Click() If IsNull(Me.LoginUsernameText) Then MsgBox "Please Enter Username", vbInformation, "Username Required"
My problem is simple, and i imagine it is easy to fix. I have more forms in my db than I would like to count, and I have a couple lines of code to add to the onload event of each form.
Is there an way, without actually having to edit each form myself, to add the code i need to add to all forms. Is there some code I can write that will let me modify the on load property of a form, and save it?
I know what i need to do, minus the part where i actually change the onload event.
I'm trying to export queries from access to excel using the DoCmd option. The code (see below) works to a point - it exports some of the queries before I get a run time error:
"31532: Microsoft Access was unable to export the data".
The worksheet tabs also do not pick up the query name but instead return what looks like a temporary ID (e.g. ~TMPCLP118431). Have tried different file locations and versions of excel but the same thing keeps happening.
Code: Sub ExportAllQueries() Dim qdf As QueryDef Dim db As Database
One shows my form with the Transporters Subform with 3 entries, and 1 entry. The three line items that say "Transporter" are in one subform. I used this code
Code: Private Sub Form_Current() If Me.RecordsetClone.RecordCount >= 3 Then Me.AllowAdditions = False End If End Sub
to limit the number of records I can add to 3 or less.My issue is that I lost the blank text box that allows you to add another record. So, if I only have one Transporter listed, there's no box to let me add a second or third.I have the following properties for the Transporters Subform set to "Yes":
Data Entry Allow Additions Allow Deletions Allow Edits Allow Filters
