Tables :: Numeric Field In A Table - Setting Field Property?

Nov 16, 2013

I have a numeric field (long integer) in a table. I've set the format to fixed. No matter what I set the decimal places to, auto, 0 or 2, when I enter a value of 0.71, it displays as 1.00

In my form, I've also set the field property to fixed, but it displays the value as 1.

Tables :: Time-stamp Creating New Unwanted Blank Record

Jul 28, 2014

I am trying to do has to be done in a table and without the use of forms (becasue its what works for us) in Access 2007. I have a table where my staff records a number of different data fields for accounts. I currently have a 3 table relationship established. One of these table is our "Notes" table. My staff enters continuous notes for different accounts as new information come in.

What I have done is set my "date" field's default value to "now()" which accomplishes the time-stamp I need, but at the same time as soon as they type anything in another field in that row Access creates another row which is unwanted. follow up how can I go about also having a field that auto fills w/ the user's name/ID?

Adding Blank Field Through Make Table Query?

Aug 28, 2013

I'd like to know how to add a blank filed (memo), called "comments" that is not pulled in from any existing table, in an existing maketable query which is getting it's fields from different linked tables , so that the destination table that comes out of this query, has all those data along with an extra column for me to add comments.

Modules & VBA :: Query A Table To See If Record Exists With Particular Field Blank

Mar 14, 2014

I am trying to achieve the following - I want to query a table to see if a record exists with a particular field blank. If so, I would like to prompt the user for data.

In real world terms, when assigning an item to a user I would like to first make sure that the item is not already assigned to somebody else. I have 4 fields, UserName, Item, IssueFrom, IssueTo. So when an item is assigned to a user, the first 3 fields are populated and the IssueTo remains blank, until that item is assigned to somebody else.

At the minute I have nothing in place to prevent a user from assigning the same item to multiple users and having multiple records for the same item in the table.

Tables :: Alpha Numeric Auto-number Field

Jul 26, 2014

I need some kind of function (I been told) that generates 3 different alphanumeric autonumbers in the same field when adding a new record, starting such field from A-1, B-1 and C-1 to infinite.Because the record gets inserted in the table with an append query and not manually through a form, I believe the function should be placed in the Default Value setting of the field.

Queries :: Date Range Query - Return Lines Where Field Is Blank In Table

Aug 15, 2013

I have a single table with customer information, one of the fields is a date field "LastContacted".

I'm creating a search form with 2 date fields (txtDate1 & txtDate2) to search a date range of the LastContacted field, and I need to write this into the query that the search form uses.

I have written this using Nz so that it can still return results if the search boxes are left blank:

Between Nz([Forms]![frm_AdvancedSearch]![txtDate1],#01/01/1989#) And Nz([Forms]![frm_AdvancedSearch]![txtDate2],#01/01/2999#)

This seems to work and it returns lines from the table where there is a date entered. However some of the fields in the table have no entry in the LastContacted field. How to code this query so that it also returns lines where the LastContacted field is blank in the table?

I have tried:

like "*" & (Between Nz([Forms]![frm_AdvancedSearch]![txtDate1],#01/01/1989#) And Nz([Forms]![frm_AdvancedSearch]![txtDate2],#01/01/2999#)) & "*"

but this returns errors when I try to run it.

I'm using Access 2010.

Queries :: Records Not Showing With Blank Numeric Fields

Jan 27, 2014

I have a query which selects a material ID and material name from one table and the associated manufacturer, supplier, and packaging type from three other tables. Some of the manufacturer, supplier, and packaging data were imported from an Excel spreadsheet and did not have data for those fields, so those fields are blank. When I run the query, I only get the records which have all fields filled out. How can I get the records where the material ID and material name are filled in, but the manufacturer, supplier, or packaging type are blank? Here is the query I'm using currently:

Code:
SELECT tblMaterialSpecifications.ID, tblMaterialSpecifications.Critical, tblMaterialSpecifications.MaterialSupply, tblManufacturer.Manufacturer, tblSupplier.Supplier, tblPackaging.PackageType
FROM tblPackaging INNER JOIN (tblSupplier INNER JOIN (tblManufacturer INNER JOIN tblMaterialSpecifications ON tblManufacturer.ID = tblMaterialSpecifications.ManufacturerID) ON tblSupplier.ID = tblMaterialSpecifications.SupplierID) ON tblPackaging.ID = tblMaterialSpecifications.PackagingID
WHERE (((tblMaterialSpecifications.ActiveInactive)=-1))
ORDER BY tblMaterialSpecifications.Critical, tblMaterialSpecifications.MaterialSupply;

Table Field Properties - Bound Column Only Accept Numeric Value?

Oct 22, 2014

I try to put an expression for the property "bound column" so that my lookup values will be directly dependent on one of attribute's choice

I have got four options for my attribute. Each option will use a slightly different set of lookup values. I save all four sets in another table.

Then in my properties definition I refer directly to this table as lookup base. When I put bound column number equal to an expression so as to choose the right column of lookup values it refuses. It seems that it does notl ike anything other than a numeric value.

If that's a no-go, I am not sure how to achieve what I try to do then?

Essentially I have a table that 4 attributes: QID,itemID,CatType,Catchoice

CatType can have only 4 values. Each value will make Catchoice take on a different set of combo values

The problem I am having is that I am stuck at the Catchoice lookup definition because it is dependent on what kind of CatType the user picks.

Tables :: Averaging Calculated Fields While One Field Is Blank

Feb 5, 2015

Access 2010 database.

I am trying to get an average from several numbered fields, which some may occasionally be blank.

=Nz([JanUS],0)+Nz([FebUs],0)+Nz([MarUS],0)

I get an error message that says "The expression =Nz([JanUS],0)+Nz([FebUs],0)+Nz([MarUS],0) cannot be used in a calculated column. This is a hypothetical expression being used.

The real expression is ...

([GC A1 - 2]+[GC B1 - 2]+[GC C1 - 2]+[GC D1 - 2]+[GC E1 - 2]+[GC A2 - 2]+[GC B2 - 2]+[GC C2 - 2]+[GC D2 - 2]+[GC E2 - 2])/10

This expression works great until a field is left blank, and then the average box is left blank.

The fields I am trying to add are Long Integer. Would that affect it?

Queries :: Limit Query Results To Numeric Value Of Text Field?

Aug 18, 2014

I have a table that has several fields including CallID (autonumber) and SKU (text)

SKU can be anything up to 9 characters, sometimes numeric sometimes alphanumeric. For example: 24300, AA23145, G58d444, 24999, 89332,...

Based on the Count of CallID I can easily get the top20 calls on each SKU. This is the query I use for that:

Code:
SELECT TOP 20 Count(Calls.CallID) AS CountOfCallID, Calls.SKU
FROM Calls
GROUP BY Calls.SKU
HAVING ((Not (Calls.SKU) Is Null))
ORDER BY Count(Calls.CallID) DESC;

The problem is that now I have been asked to create two different lists. One that has the top 20 SKU that range from 24520 and 24599 and another one that does the res tof the SKUs.

Obviously my problem is that the SKU field is text, not numbers so I can't just limit the results in the query by using "Between 24520 and 24500" in the query criteria.

Sorting Table / Query - Ordering Numeric Values

It seems that it is sorting by the first digit shown. Is there any way to fix this quickly within table/query properties so that this can be displayed in proper numeric order?

Tables :: Cannot Enter Value Into Blank Field On (one) Side Of Outer Join

Apr 28, 2014

My goal is to create a form that allows me easily edit what State each City is assigned to, and edit what Country each State is assigned to. I have 3 tables:

tbCities
CityID (Primary Key)
StateID (Foreign Key from tbStates)
City

tbStates
StateID (Primary Key)
CountryID (Foreign Key from tbCountries)
State

tbCountries
CountryID (Primary Key)
Country

For right now, I want to focus on just States and Cities... so I also have this query:
quCity_to_State
Field: City
Table: tbCities

Field: State
Table: tbStates

The join type for the relationship between tbCities and tbStates is: Include ALL records from 'tbCities' and only those records from 'tbStates' where the joined fields are equal. That way I can see all the cities and the state they are assigned to.

However, when I view the query in datasheet view and try to type anything into the State field of this query, I keep getting this error: "Cannot enter value into blank field on 'one' side of outer join". I figured the source of the form should be this query instead of the tables directly, but if I can't input data into the query then I wont be able to input data into the form.

What am I doing wrong?

Queries :: Update Table If A Field Is Blank Without Clicking Through All 5K Records

May 7, 2014

I am putting the finishing touches on a DB and have come up with a a problem which I cannot solve. I have code on my data entry form that concatenated the days and times of up to five days. That is : [Day1] & " " & "@" & " " & Format([Time1],"h:nn AM/PM") & " " & ";" and so forth for five days. It has a complicated (for me) nested IIF statement and it works fine on the form. But I have now transferred the data from an old DOS DB and I do not want to go through almost 5K records just to update three fields. When I tried to do it in an update query, it said that the string was too long for the update. My update is:

IIf([Day5] Is Not Null,[Day1] & " " & "@" & " " & Format([Time1],"h:nn AM/PM") & " " & ";" & " " & [Day2] & " " & "@" & " " & Format([Time2],"h:nn AM/PM") & " " & ";" & " " & [Day3] & " " & "@" & " " & Format([Time3],"h:nn AM/PM") & " " & ";" & " " & [Day4] & " " & "@" & " " & Format([Time4],"h:nn AM/PM") & " " & ";" & " " & [Day5] & " " & "@" & " " & Format([Time5],"h:nn AM/PM"),IIf([Day5] Is Null And [Day4] Is Not Null,[Day1] & " " & "@" & " " & Format([Time1],"h:nn AM/PM") &

[code]...

how to update the table if a field is blank without clicking through all 5K records? I have tried simple concatenation, but I usually get a lot of extra @ in the field.

Append From A Text Box To Only Blank Field In Saved Record In A Table

I have designed a database that has two forms as inputs to a table. The first form is a checklist and when it is completed it saves all fields except the ManagerID field. I then use the blank ManagerID, clientID and Date to pull onto a form for the manager to complete. On completion I want the ManagerID to save into the current records so they do not show up in the manager checklist forms and I then have a complete record. I have been searching online and cant seem to see how the best avenue is. I have an append query, see below
