I have a problem with changing a datatype into a number. The thing is that all the fields are in text and i want to change some of them to a number datatype. If i try to change the field to a number i get a message that come up as This:The setting for the field size property of on or more fields has been changed to a shorter size. If data lost, validation rules may be violated as a result. I try to export it into an excel file and change all the field that i need to be a number and convert them into a number and it work by when i import them back into access they don't change.
I'm in datasheet design view and I'm trying to change the data type of a cell and add a lookup. When I try to change the datatype I get an error which says I need to remove a relationship first - except I did. I deleted all the relationships, saved and closed the relationship view and closed and reopened the table.
I'm building a database at work to see if we can replace some of the "buhzillion" spreadsheets we currently use to track data on sites and employees across the country. I've set up the primary excel tables the way I want to import them, but Access keeps converting my Employee Numbers (mostly 7 digit numbers, "text" format in excel) to scientific notation during the import process and then giving me errors because my primary key "EmployeeNumber" has duplicates. How do I tell Access to import these as text instead of numbers? I'd really like to not have to type in data for 100+ employees and over 1000 sites, you know?
Hi all,I'm trying to attach some table from a Sql Server database, but when I take a look to the content, I see all the fields filled by the value "#CANCELLED".I supposed that the matter of such an issue could be the datatype used for some fields, a user-defined datatype. The only table content from the same Sql Server database I can see does not use that data type. I'm using a read-only account to access the Sql Server database. If I try to import the table, the data are imported correctly and the user-datatype is converted to text.Any suggestions for a solution / workaround ?Thanks Bye
I have a table 'Project Details' to which I have recently added a new field 'Last Invoice issued'. This field is a text field with a lookup and will default to 'No' for new records being added. When the related record is updated in my 'Invoices' table, I have set up a query to change 'Last Invoice Issued' to yes. This is all working fine, but it requires all the records in 'Project Details' to contain 'No' already in order for it to work. As there are over 1000 records in 'Project Details' I made a list in Excel of the right number of no's and copied it in. Most records were fine with the exception of 127. I can edit any of the other fields from the 'Project Details' datasheet or my data entry form, but when I try to edit one of the 127, I get a DataType mismatch error. I can't understand since the records are all in one table and have exactly the same DataTypes set up for each field, why I can edit some and not others? Is there some other place where DataType can be set up that may affect some records and not others?
I have tried to copy my table to post here but when I do that, I get a 'Index or Primary Key cannot contain a Null value' error due to the (New) record having the default values already in but the primary key not being filled until I save,.
This might be simple but I just can't figure it out.
I have a table that has a number field. Everytime I enter the number 1.50, it changes to 2. I would like to keep the 1.50. Somehow, I can't get this right. Is there a setting that I have to change? Would I need to make setting changes on the form portion also?
I have a table with a compound key, and one of the two fields in the compound key has to start at 100 and finish at 999 and I'd like it so that each number didn't have to be typed in individually.
So I thought about using an autonumber that somehow starts at 100 but doesn't go over 999 if thats possible? Or if you have any other ideas on how I could achieve this? Thanks

I am using a combo box to enter Employees names for training hours...I want to use a pivotchart but when i use the training hours table/form the pivotchart gives me the combo box numbers instead of the names. I know there is a formula or something I am suppose to use here or even a query but I don't have a clue as to how to do this....if someone would be so kind in directing me with instructions and help...thanks
I have a subform where you can add multiple records. i have a command button labelled NEXT (which obviously navigates to the next record) but I only want this to be enabled when there is more than one record.
I am OK on the enabling bit but how do you specify if the record number >1?
Does someone have time to start me off on some code?
I have a report I want to generate in Access 2010. I have a text box with the following:
Code:
="Page " & [Page] & " of " & ([Pages]+[Forms]![ReportForm]![PageCount])
What I am attempting to do is increase the maximum number for the total number of pages in the report. As it reads right now when I go into print preview it looks like
"Page 1 of " That is all. It doesn't seem to calculate the new total number of pages. Yes the report form is open, and yes there is value in the PageCount in the Report Form.I had this working in another database, but this one isn't being as nice. The reason for adding to the total page count is because additional pages will be added to the report that aren't in the database. how to increase the total number of pages in the report.
In Access 2002, I have a Phone Number field (Text) that is meant to store (obviously enough) phone numbers. However, when I enter 2009 as the last four digits (ex. (555)-555-2009) the number is changed to (555)-555-2010. This also occurs if I enter the number directly into the table (which doesn't have an input mask). I have tested it in a new form (even without input mask), and a new table, which both result in the exact same thing.
The calculation works fine; however, I only want to show the whole number (not rounded up; not rounded down). In other words, if the result is 0.9967, then I want 0 to appear.
I cannot figure out how to make this happen. In the properties section I ensured the format was "general number" with 0 decimal places but this didn't change the result. I tried changing the format in the calculated field, again, I wasn't successful.
I have linked tables in my db at the moment that rely on user dsn connections to an SQL server. I've been reading about DSNLess connections and want to try convert what i have to have permanent DSNless connections, but the code I've found doesn't appear to be working.
I've removed server specific details where i felt necessary, but when running the code i have it in place.
Code:
Public Sub RefreshODBCLinks() Dim connString As String Dim db As DAO.Database Dim tb As DAO.TableDef connString = "DRIVER=SQL Server;SERVER=<database ip address>;DATABASE=<
Hello All, I currently have a bunch of tables that I have linked to a SQL database. For development purposes (easy of use), I'd like to turn all those tables into regular tables rather than linked so if I take the db offsite, all the data is with me. I realize there will be no updates, etc. but that really doesn't matter for my needs in this case.
Is there a script or an easy way to do this? (besides doing a manual import for a LOT of tables)
I've tried searching but I might not be searching for the correct terminology.
I have an Access2007/SQL Server 2012 system with 20 users for an insurance company. The company does most of its business via a network of vehicle dealers around the country. If someone comes in to buy a motorcycle, boat, or recreational vehicle at a dealership they need insurance to take it home, and our dealers send the quotes to us.
The dealers, in turn, receive payment from us each month for their efforts. Some are paid a % commission on the premium, some are paid for each quote they send regardless of whether the policy actually sells or not, and some are paid a set amount per sold policy. (Yes, that is relevant information!)
We already have reports that tally the amounts due each dealer based on their payment scheme, but last month our bookkeeper had to write about 650 checks manually because the check writing is not automated. She'd look at the report, and then enter name, address, and amount (in digits and words) into Quick Books and print the checks from there, a horribly tedious process. I've been asked to print the checks from Access. Basically one click would print all 650 checks.
I've opted to use a Make Table query to move the commissioned dealers amounts to a single location, and then to run two append queries to add the records from those paid per quote and those paid per policy. At the end of the day, one table contains all the information necessary to print the checks...except one.
The check number.
I need a way to sequentially number each record in the new table with a user generated starting point, the first check number.
By the way, the check blanks are on standard letter sized paper, three to a page, with tear-off perforations to separate them, in case that information has any relevance.
I think the best way to accomplish this is from the report itself. I've created a blank field on each record for the check number, and what seems most logical is that the sequential number is generated on print and written back to the table, rather than just generating all the numbers at once. That way, should print ever be interrupted, it will be easy to take up where we left off.
I would like to know if there is any procedure to restrict/stop auto number increment for certain number of record count (say 50), then increment by 1 for next 50 records.
Does anyone know how to change all linked tables in a database to unlinked? I want to save a database for offline testing and want to save the tables as flat tables instead of linked. Is there anyway to do this without bringing them all back in unlinked?
Hello Friends I have 100 tables and now I changed the name of tables due to some reasons. Now I must to replace the names in other database objects. Is there any option that can reduce the work load because otherwise it is a tiring job to replace it manually.
My database is now live within our office and is working fine.
The databases which I have imported the data from, where done by my dad, who being old fashioned, used CAPS for everything he typed. So for quite alot of the data, its all caps, and it would be great, but not essential if we could revert the text to normal sentences.
Is there any trick or code that I could run that would go through certain tables and reformat the text in to a better format??
This is one of this only times i've had a problem whose answer i couldn't find on this or other forums, so here's the question.
My DBase links to the back end tables tblBrkdn tblBrkdnArchive tblBrkdwnTradespeople tblBrkdwnTradespeopleArchive
The following two tables are local, not linked tblBrkdnArchiveTemp tblBrkdwnTradespeopleArchiveTemp
After running through the following code, all of the four above mentioned linked tables are now local. It's vexing. I'm terribly vexed. If you can help, my status would chnge from vexed to joyous....:
Thx in advance...

I am connecting to a table in our accounting software using MS Access ODBC Connection. I would like to change the value in a table for every record in the table 7,000+. In the latest version of the software a new field was added to the Vendor Table that by default is unchecked. I would like to have this field checked for each vendor. Is there a way that I can change all the records at once instead of going row by row to make the changes?
I need to update the names of my ODBC linked tables in my Access database, how can I do this without causing issues with my queries/reports?The current linked tables are to a SQL View on a database called mcsrm_live, and called e.g. vwDamagesReportNew
The new SQL views that I need to link to are identical in structure and content and on the same SQL server but different database - forkdw and are called e.g vw_R_Damages
Is there a straightforward process to do this without affecting the queries and reports in my Access db?
I have now been asked to create 'something' (form, query, whatever) that will:
Allow the engineers to change the date in multiple tables for parts; and,Change (in)activity status information in those tables; and,Delete the same obsolete part(s) from two tables and add that information (one entry) into another table.
