I'm pretty sure that the data types for the columns I mentioned on the mathematical equation are all numeric. Please help...

I'm new to databases. So I'm writing code in c# to search a database. Here is the following SQL statement I'm trying to use: SELECT Movies.Movie, Movies.Genre, Movies.ReleasedFROM Movies INNER JOIN MovieActor ON Movies.Movie = MovieActor.MovieWHERE (MovieActor.Movie = '% ' & @name & ' %')
When I go to test the statement it says that "Data types varchar and varchar are incompatible in the boolean AND operator." Any ideas around this?
Hi all,I have a table called PTRANS with few columns (see create script below).I have created a view on top that this table VwTransaction (See below)I can now run this query without a problem:select * from dbo.VwTransactionwhereAssetNumber = '101001' andTransactionDate <= '7/1/2003'But when I create an index on the PTRANS table using the command below:CREATE INDEX IDX_PTRANS_CHL# ON PTRANS(CHL#)The same query that ran fine before, fails with the error:Server: Msg 242, Level 16, State 3, Line 1The conversion of a char data type to a datetime data type resulted inan out-of-range datetime value.I can run the same query by commeting out the AssetNumber clause and itworks fine. I can also run the query commenting out the TransactionDatecolumn and it works fine. But when I have both the conditions in theWHERE clause, it gives me this error. Dropping the index solves theproblem. Can anyone tell me why an index would cause a query to fail? Thanks a lot in advance,AmirCREATE TABLE [PTRANS] ([CHL#] [varchar] (100) COLLATE SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CI_AS NULL ,[CHCENT] [numeric](2, 0) NOT NULL ,[CHYYMM] [numeric](4, 0) NOT NULL ,[CHDAY] [numeric](2, 0) NOT NULL ,[CHTC] [char] (2) COLLATE SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CI_AS NOT NULL) ON [PRIMARY]GOCREATE VIEW dbo.vwTransactionsASSELECT CONVERT(datetime, dbo.udf_AddDashes(REPLICATE('0', 2 -LEN(CHCENT)) + CONVERT(varchar, CHCENT) + REPLICATE('0', 4 -LEN(CHYYMM))+ CONVERT(varchar, CHYYMM) + REPLICATE('0', 2 -LEN(CHDAY)) + CONVERT(varchar, CHDAY)), 20) AS TransactionDate,CHL# AS AssetNumber,CHTC AS TransactionCodeFROM dbo.PTRANSWHERE (CHCENT <> 0) AND (CHTC <> 'RA')*** Sent via Developersdex http://www.developersdex.com ***Don't just participate in USENET...get rewarded for it!

Obviously, I'm new to SQL Server, because I'm still scratching my head wondering where in the world the boolean data type is. Can anyone please explain to me how boolean data types REALLY work in SQL Server? I've created a few Bit type fields, but when using a datagrid, they sometimes show up as 0 and 1 and sometimes as True/False, and I can't see a difference in how the grids (or fields(!)) are set up that would explain this. Any insight would be greatly appreciated!
What data type should I use as a replacement of Boolean in SQL server? I need to create a table column with a "two-state" data type and must ensure, that only one record can hold value "True" in this column... Any ideas? Thanks
I know this is a stupid question, but I've searched and can't seem to find it.
What do you use in SQL when creating a table and the field is a "yes/no" type field? In VB isn't that a boolean data type? What is the corresponding SQL data type?
hello all .. I have a form that includes two textboxes (Date and Version) .. When I try to insert the record I get the following error message .. seems that something wrong with my coversion (Data type)"The conversion of a char data type to a datetime data type resulted in an out-of-range datetime value. The statement has been terminated."
in my SQL database I have the date feild as datetime and the version as nvarchar(max) this is the code in the vb page .. Can you please tell me how to solve this problem?Imports System.Data.SqlClient Imports system.web.configuration

I have an issue with validating an XML file I have from a 3rd party.
Willing to improve and standardise company's process, I have created an XML schema collection (SQL 2008R2), but when I validate the XML file against it I always keep getting the above error: Invalid simple type value dateTime.
Definition of dateTime from w3schools website says: ------ Start of quote ---- "DateTime Data Type The dateTime data type is used to specify a date and a time. The dateTime is specified in the following form "YYYY-MM-DDThh:mm:ss" where: YYYY indicates the year MM indicates the month DD indicates the day T indicates the start of the required time section hh indicates the hour mm indicates the minute ss indicates the second
Note: All components are required!
The following is an example of a dateTime declaration in a schema:
<xs:element name="startdate" type="xs:dateTime"/> An element in your document might look like this: <startdate>2002-05-30T09:00:00</startdate>
------ End of quote ----
So I would assume that dates like 2012-10-24T14:23:00 or 2012-10-24T14:15:00 should be fine, but no -fails.
It works though only if I add "Z" at the end. Obviously 3rd party do not want to change anything, as it works for ages.
I have a page for inventory price entry that I have used for a while. Now I need to add a checkbox for whether or not the price includes shipping. I added the checkbox to the form and had it posting 'True' or 'False' to the database as nchar(10) data type. When the gridview pulls up the data, I have the Item Template like this, so it shows a disabled checkbox either checked or not: <asp:CheckBox ID="CheckBox2" runat="server" Checked='<%# Convert.ToBoolean(Eval("Shipping")) %>' Enabled="False" /> This works fine for displaying the values, but I copied the checkbox to the Edit Item Template, but did not disabled this one. At first, I didn't change the databindings, leaving it Convert.ToBoolean(Eval("Shipping")), which allowed me to go into Edit mode, change the checkbox, then click update. At which point it would return to it's original state (meaning Update wasn't actually updating). However if I change the databindings, then the page won't display. I checked the SQL statement, and sure enough, it has theUpdateCommand="UPDATE [PartsTable] ... SET [Shipping] = @Shipping... WHERE [PartID] = @original_PartIDAfter fiddling with the sql statement, now I get Object cannot be cast from DBNull to other types. I think that means that the checkbox is sending a null value to the database.Any insight as to how to get this to work is much appreciated. Thanks in advance.
hi,In MySql,we can run below query select appid, dvbpath, business from ocgxmldbinfo group by appid but in MSSql,it can't!so i want to know whether the following query equals it? select distinct appid, dvbpath, business from ocgxmldbinfo order by appid
I have a table called "Inc_Exp_Accounts". The table has ledger account numbers and names. It also has a third column called "IsExpense". The IsExpense column is a bit field = 0 (false) if the account is an income account and = -1 (true) if the account is an expense account. I only have income and expense accounts. I do not have other accounts such as asset accounts. The distinguishing thing about income accounts is that the account number (an nvarchar(11) type) is a '3'. Anything else makes it an expense account.
I would think I can use the following SQL statement to correctly set the IsExpense column:
UPDATE Inc_Exp_Accounts SET IsExpense = IIF(LEFT(Account_Number, 1) = '3', False, True) But nooo, I cannot! I cannot even run it because Visual Studio SQL Syntax checker rejects it. It complains about the second '='. If I change the second '=' to '>', then it complains about '>'. Therefore, I think I have the particular character about which it complains.
Ths specific complaint (error message) is: "Error in list of function arguments: '=' not recognized. Unable to parse query text.". So what is wrong?
I am attempting to use a CLR Function to perform an update operation, since a SQL UDF will not allow this within the function. For the POC, I hard-coded the db connection string and setup the assembly to use EXTERNAL_ACCESS. This worked fine and the update operation was running properly via the CLR Function. However, I now want to make the code run in the current db context without plugging in a connection string. So, I've applied "context connection=true" instead of the explicit db string. When I do this, I am receiving the following error:
A .NET Framework error occurred during execution of user defined routine or aggregate 'MyTestCLRUDF':
System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: Invalid use of side-effecting or time-dependent operator in 'UPDATE' within a function.
System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException:
etc.
I don't understand why simply swapping the connection string would cause this issue. I assume this is somehow related to permissions, and I am missing something. I've tried using each of the three permission levels (external, safe, and unsafe), and no luck.
Is it possible to use wildcards with an equals statement? Such asSELECT * FROM Table WHERE City = '%' AND State='Ca'Bascially just stating where city equals anything...I know you can do it with a LIKE statement such as...SELECT * FROM Table WHERE City LIKE '%' AND State='Ca'but is that very efficient? The reason I want to do this is because I want to programmitcally set the city, so just ommiting it won't work Also, using City LIKE '%' seems to not include NULL...is there anywayto include NULL as well as anything else? Thanks for your help!
