Hi, I am developing an application with vb.net and sql server 2005 express edition. If a user logs in (through the application), I want to query the computer host from sql server 2005 in which the user logs on. Is there any special table or procedure that I can use to achieve this? Thanks.
I have a question about blocked processes. My manager wants to know how you can know the following when a blocked process is encountered.
The job, program and the statement that is causing the blocking. I have figured out how to determine the database involved but not a lot else. Such as in the blocked process report there is a waitresource field. How to you decipher it? The report also tells you the client application, but in this case it just states the Micro focus Net Express as the client, not the job or program that is running.
I have an inputbuf listed but it just shows the database id, and the object id. And I am not sure how to locate the object id in this case, I am guessing sys.objects, but I do not seem to find that one.
I have read many things on MSN about the blocked process report, but it does not seem to go into great detail.
I seem to have all the pieces, but do not exactly know how to quickly tie them all together.
I downloaded MS Pet Shop 4.0 recently for best-practice training purposes. The installation went smoothly with a SQL Server 2005 backend. At first I had a problem authenticating the mspetshop4 user in the database, but that was solved by fixing some settings with the password policy. Now the mspetshop4 user is authenticated properly, but I came across this error instead:Server Error in '/Web' Application. is it possible to assign for each CPU a different process within one SQL Server 2005?
I got 2 servers (each 4 CPUs; 64 bit system) which should be able to failover, but on the other hand there are reporting/analysing applications and totally different sharepoint/other applications that should be hosted seperately, each on one physical server.
We've had a problem for a few months now that has completely stumped us. We are running a heavily cursored massive data manipulation process on a 32 bit SQL Server instance running on a virtual machine, running ontop of VMWare, with the following specs
Processors: 2x2674MHz processors Memory: 4GB RAID 10 disk config
When we run our process on this machine, in total it runs in 30 hours.
When this process is run on another 32 bit server with the following specs
Processors: 8x3658MHx processors Memory: 8 GB SAN w/ RAID 5 disk config
It runs 25% slower
But here is the real kicker. When this process is run on a 64 bit server with the following specs
Processors: 8x3658MHz processors Memory: 8 GB SAN w/ RAID 5 disk config
It runs 75% slower.
This process consists solely of stored procedures written in TSQL. The weird thing is that on our smaller server, the CPUs' % utilization are evenly balanced (at 20-30%) when this large data manipulation process is running. However on the bigger servers, SQL Server latches onto a single processor and doesn't load balance across other processors. Such that what we're seeing is that only one processor out of the eight will be utilized and it will be throttled at 90% while the other 7 are at zero.
The default configuration settings in all three places.
Has anyone ever seen any behavior like this, where only one processor gets used by SQL Server during processing? Granted our processes are single threaded b/c they are using cursors but, it seems that the single thread shouldn't be restricted to one processor.
i'm going nuts with SQL server notification thing. I have gone throigh this artical which tells how to set user http://www.codeproject.com/KB/database/SqlDependencyPermissions.aspx. This article show how to create new user and setup for sql server notification. But In my case user was alredy existing in database. which is very common senario in most cases. So i did following( check the SQL script below) but then i get this error "A connection was successfully established with the server, but then an error occurred during the login process. Hello. We recently ran into extremely large transaction log sizes on our SQL 2005 box...turns out they were not being backed up. After doing some research, I found that they should be backed up very frequently in order to kee their sizes down. I kind of inherited the mess, but got three maintenance plans set up:
FULL Backup that runs weekly
DIFFERNTIAL Backup that runs nightly
TRANSACTION LOG backup that runs hourly However, since I implemented the plans there has been high CPU utilization at all times. I finally figured out what was causing it today...the BACKUP LOG process is hanging in "Suspended" mode when I view processes. I have to manually kill them to release the CPU utilization.
How can I trace the cause of the hang? Is there a better way to backup/truncate the log files?
I was trying to extract data from the source server using OLEDB Source and SQL Server Destination when i encountered this error:
"Transaction (Process ID 135) was deadlocked on lock resources with another process and has been chosen as the deadlock victim. Rerun the transaction.".
What must be done so that even if the table being queried is locked, i wouldn't experience any deadlock?
Hello all, I am running into an interesting scenario on my desktop. I'm running developer edition on Windows XP Professional (9.00.3042.00 SP2 Developer Edition). OS is autopatched via corporate policy and I saw some patches go in last week. This machine is also a hand-me-down so I don't have a clean install of the databases on the machine but I am local admin.
So, starting last week after a forced remote reboot (also a policy) I noticed a few of the databases didn't start back up. I chalked it up to the hard shutdown and went along my merry way. Friday however I know I shut my machine down nicely and this morning when I booted up, I was in the same state I was last Wenesday. 7 of the 18 databases on my machine came up with
FCB:pen: Operating system error 32(The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process.) occurred while creating or opening file 'C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQL.1MSSQLDataTest.mdf'. Diagnose and correct the operating system error, and retry the operation. and it also logs FCB:pen failed: Could not open file C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQL.1MSSQLDataTest.mdf for file number 1. OS error: 32(The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process.).
I've caught references to the auto close feature being a possible culprit, no dice as the databases in question are set to False. Recovery mode varies on the databases from Simple to Full. If I cycle the SQL Server service, whatever transient issue it was having with those files is gone. As much as I'd love to disable the virus scanner, network security would not be amused. The data and log files appear to have the same permissions as unaffected database files. Nothing's set to read only or archive as I've caught on other forums as possible gremlins. I have sufficient disk space and the databases are set for unrestricted growth.
Any thoughts on what I could look at? If it was everything coming up in RECOVERY_PENDING it's make more sense to me than a hit or miss type of thing I'm experiencing now.
Dear list Im designing a package that uses Microsofts preplog.exe to prepare web log files to be imported into SQL Server
What Im trying to do is convert this cmd that works into an execute process task D:SSIS ProcessPrepweblogProcessLoad>preplog ex.log > out.log the above dos cmd works 100%
However when I use the Execute Process Task I get this error [Execute Process Task] Error: In Executing "D:SSIS ProcessPrepweblogProcessLoadpreplog.exe" "" at "D:SSIS ProcessPrepweblogProcessLoad", The process exit code was "-1" while the expected was "0".
There are two package varaibles User::gsPreplogInput = ex.log User::gsPreplogOutput = out.log
How do I use the execute process task? I am trying to unzip the file using the freeware PZUnzip.exe and I tried to place the entire command in a batch file and specified the working directory as the location of the batch file, but the task fails with the error:
SSIS package "IngramWeeklyPOS.dtsx" starting.
Error: 0xC0029151 at Unzip download file, Execute Process Task: In Executing "C:ETLPOSDataIngramWeeklyUnzip.bat" "" at "C:ETLPOSDataIngramWeekly", The process exit code was "1" while the expected was "0".
Then I tried to specify the exe directly in the Executable property and the agruments as the location of the zip file and the directory to unzip the files in, but this time it fails with the following message:
SSIS package "IngramWeeklyPOS.dtsx" starting.
Error: 0xC002F304 at Unzip download file, Execute Process Task: An error occurred with the following error message: "%1 is not a valid Win32 application".
The command in the batch file when run from the command line works perfectly and unzips the file, so there is absolutely no problem with the command, I believe it is just the set up of the variables on the execute process task editor under Process. Any input on resolving this will be much appreciated.
I am designing a utility which will keep two similar databases in sync. In other words, copying the new data from db1 to db2 and updating the old data from db1 to db2.
For this I am making use of the 'Tablediff' utility which when provided with server name, database, table info will generate .sql file which can be used to keep the target table in sync with the source table.
I am using the Execute Process Task and the process parameters I am providing are:
The customer.bat file will have the following code: tablediff -sourceserver "LV-SQL5" -sourcedatabase "TC_CTI" -sourcetable "CUSTOMER_1" -destinationserver "LV-SQL2" -destinationdatabase "TC_CTI" -destinationtable "CUSTOMER" -f "c:SQL_bat_Filessql5TC_CTIsql_filescustomer1"
the .sql file will be generated at: C:SQL_bat_Filessql5TC_CTIsql_filescustomer1.
The Problem: The Execute Process Task is working fine, ie., the tables are being compared correctly and the .SQL file is being generated as desired. But the task as such is reporting faliure with the following error :
[Execute Process Task] Error: In Executing "C:SQL_bat_FilesSQL5TC_CTIpackage_occurrence.bat" "" at "C:Program Files (x86)Microsoft SQL Server90COM", The process exit code was "2" while the expected was "0". ]
Some of you may suggest to just set the ForceExecutionResult = Success (infact this is what I am doing now just to get the program working), but, this is not what I desire.
I'm pulling data from Oracle db and load into MS-SQL 2008.For my data type checks during the data load process, what are options to ensure that the data being processed wouldn't fail. such that I can verify first in-hand with the target type of data and then if its valid format load it into destination table else mark it with error flag and push into errors table... All this at the row level. One way I can think of is to load into a staging table then get the source & destination table -column data types, compare them and proceed.
should I just try loading the data directly and if it fails try trouble shooting(which could be a difficult task as I wouldn't know what caused error...)
I am having this table locking issue that I need to start paying attention to as its getting more frequent.
The problem is that the data in the tables is live finance data that needs to be changed and viewed almost real time so what I have picked up so far is that using 'table Hints' may not be a good idea.
I have a guy at work telling me that introducing a data access layer is the only way to solve this, I am not convinced but havnt enough knowledge to back my own feeling up. (asp system not .net).
We recently installed SQL server 2005 on a couple of our servers. I use Visual Basic 6.0 at the moment and use ADO to connect to our various SQL servers.
I recently discovered on one of the new servers, that every time my programs runs, (every 4 minutes for 12 hours a day) the SQL process shown in task manager grows by 1-10 Megs.
The SQL process was at 776,912K when I rebooted this afternoon. It started back up at 106,120K.
I am not doing anything differently than I did when my programs were talking to SQL 2000, and I have never seen this memory leak issue. Is there something extra I need to do in SQL 2005 to finish/clear these SQL queries and not bog down SQL's memory?
An example of how I would connect and do a SQL transaction:
Hi, I'm trying to upload the ASPNETDB.MDF file to a hosting server via FTP, and everytime when it was uploaded half way(40% or 50%) I would get an error message saying: "550 ASPNETDB.MDF: The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process" and then the upload failed. I'm using SQL Express. Does anybody know what's the cause? Thanks a lot
Hi. When I try to start a package manually clicking the Start Debugging button I get this after a little while:
Cannot process request because the process (3880) has exited. (Microsoft.DataTransformationServices.VsIntegration)
How can I prevent this from happening? This happens every time I want to start the package and every time the process id is different. Here it is 3880.
I have had a full lock on my sql server and I have a few logs to found the origin of the lock.
I know the process at the head of the lock is the 55 process.
Here are the information I have on this process: Spid 55 55 ecid 5 5 Ecid 0 0 ObjId 0 1784601646 IndId 0 0 Type DB PAG Resource 1:1976242 Mode S IS Status TransID GRANT GRANT TransID 0 16980 TransUOW 00000000-0000-0000-0000-000000000000 00000000-0000-0000-0000-000000000000

Would someone know a way to identify the origin of the process 55?
I have already tried to execute the following request: select * from SYSOBJECTS where id=1784601646
I have a File System Task Copy file operation to copy a file in an SSIS package. The package when scheduled as a job fails with the following error:
The process cannot access the file 'C:ETLConsignmentAppleAppleRawFile.txt' because it is being used by another process.".
However when I right click on the package and execute it manually from the Integration Services it runs successfully without any problem. I am not certain on how to resolve this issue any inputs will be much appreciated.
Error: 0xC002F304 at Rename file 1, File System Task: An error occurred with the following error message: "The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process.".
When running two File System Tasks after each other, with the same file, the file is still locked when running the second task. Resulting in an error: 0xC002F304 at Rename file 1, File System Task: An error occurred with the following error message: "The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process.".
I found a workaround by addind a Execute Process Task before the second File System Task that pings to the localhost. This results in a 5 second delay, but there must be a better solution. Anyone?
wwwwww Service Desk server. The database is housed there as well. Over the last couple of days, the SQL Server process has been spiking at 100%. It's so bad now that I can't log into the box at all. I'm trying to remotely stops services now, but it's a struggle. The only thing that I know that's changed recently is that some OS patches were applied on Sunday.
I got this message from sql "Server was unable to process request. ---> A connection was successfully established with the server, but then an error occurred during the pre-login handshake. I have a new server attached to a SAN that is running log shipping that will be replaced. I have the following list to complete this an wonder if I am wrong or missing anything
1. Stop log shipping on primary 2. let last restores complete on failover server 3. Backup master and msdb on primary 4. Detach databases 5. Replace primary with new server and attach to SAN (server will have same name and IP as former server) 6.Bring up new sql server 7.restore master and msdb 8.restart log shipping
My question is mainly on if I do a restore of the master and msdb, do I need to reatach the databases first?

SQL Server 2000 sp3; single instance; used as backend to Access 2002:I have 20 tables used as a temporary store, each one receiving datafrom VB based remote applications that insert new data on a regularbasis. My current Access apps are used to collate, action and summarise thisdata. The collation process involves checking the new data and adding it toa single table, and if action is required flag this - this is done inthe "server" Access app. The other Access apps are used to filter andview the data, reports etc.Question:is it possible to do this collation in SQL Server by some automatedtask triggered by an event, thereby speeding things up and releivingthe need to be logged on with the "server" Access app ?The function outline for each of the 20 tables would be:1. Are there any new records, if so insert them into the central table2. If the status field=1 of any these new records copy these recordsto a 2nd table3. Repeatregards,B Moor
Hello all, I am in desperate need of knowing how to utilize a cancel button to stop a long process being run on SQL Server. I'm using ASP (VBScript), and javascript 1.2 in my applications. I just can't seem to figure this one out. Any and all help in this situation would be greatly appreciated!
Hi there! I've a problem, what seems to be a Bug...
I've a Win 2003 Server, 64Bit, Enterprise Ed., SP1 on an Intel Xeon CPU 3,2 GHz, 8,00 GB RAM with physic. Adressexp.. Furthermore, i've a SQL Server 2005, latest Service Pack (9.0.3042).
When i restart the SQL Server, i've aprox. > 7GB of free RAM (showed in Task Manager). At night, a few SSIS-Pakages run, and in the morning, the free space is aprox. 1 GB. The night after that, some SSIS-Packages fail, because there's not enouhg free Memory. So i restart the SQL Server (Prozess), and it runs (for one night).
I've monitored the SQL Server while he is attacked by the SSIS-Packages, it doesn't take much more then 1,8GB RAM (Private and Virtuell). The DTS-Process doesn't take more than 1,7GB.
Question 1: Where is the lost RAM-Space (7GB - 1,8GB - 1,7GB = 3,5GB, so ~2,5GB are "missing") Question 2: Why does SQL Server not realeases the RAM? Question 3: Is there a good tool to monitor the uses RAM (incl. "hidden")?
Can anyone direct me to either some code or reading, that talk about gather all my server information. What I want to do is gather all the server Used and Free space size. I'm know a little sql-dmo, and I think I can do it that way, but not sure.
I am having a few problems using ASP-DB advertised on this site. Queries that were working rather quickly a week ago are timing out for no apparent reason. (asp-db seems to be buggy)
I have no idea as to what is causing the query (ie select * from tables X, Y, Z) to time out. The process id on SQL server says AWAITING COMMAND or SLEEPING.
Also, the processes on SQL server do not seem to die. Can this be accomplished via ASP or other means.
