I need to validate my text box value for instance when the user will enter the value if its 6 - 10 character its fine but if it's less than 6 I have to display a message invalid value.
View 3 RepliesI'm modifying a report that uses a date parameter as a report filter. The original report had no restrictions on what dates may be entered, so it displayed a neat Calendar picker tool for use in selecting the date for the parameter.
Thing is, this new version needs to have the dates limited to only those available in the source data. So, when I provide a query to describe the available values in the parameter properties window, instead of the nifty Calendar picker, I get a texbox dropdown list. [insert sad sound here]
I was hoping that it would still provide the Calendar picker, but with available dates highlighted in bold or some color or the unavailable dates greyed out, something along those lines; not an unimaginative dropdown list. To define the available values, I use a very simple query;
SELECT DISTINCT Load_Date
FROM Census
ORDER BY Load_Date
Is there a way to get it to display a Calendar tool rather than the dropdown list, if the parameter is given a list of available dates?
I have 2 tables in my report, a multi value parameter (tp_title) is passed to the report. I am trying to hide the first tablix with this expression in the visiblity option of the tablix properties.

I get the error: The Hidden expression for the tablix ‘Tablix1’ contains an error: Overload resolution failed because no Public '=' can be called with these arguments:

Argument matching parameter 'a' cannot convert from 'Object()' to 'String'.
When I render the report. How the tablix can be made invisible based on the parameter?
I have a requirement, I want to display the employee status report. In status report, if the status=0 ,I need to display inactive.. if the status=1 active and if status=2 archived.. I am getting values from table like below. I need to change to text.How can we achieve the same.

If I use the default Textbox in SSRS 2008 Report Designer, I get all the RTF formating characters, which makes for a VERY ugly report.Is there another control I can place on my report that will take the RTF formated text and display it properly? I can do this in Crystal Reports, but I'm converting to SSRS 2008 so I need to be able to handle RTF formated text.

Their ID is prefixed with "PRIV"...And I'm assuming that is the direct result of the network domain. I need to create a SSRS expression to determine if the User ID is prefixed with "PRIV" and then parse that out and use what's behind the "" as their true User Id.
example...."PRIVID123456" should appear as "ID123456" in the report data line.
I have a user table with Label and value fields where i would like to control the display of the text boxes based on the values selected in my user table.Can we adjust the text box positions dynamically based on the user table values.

In my table i don't have values for Label 2 & Field 2 , can we adjust the spacing conditionally to be utilized by Label3 & Field3 in SSRS.
Note : Above mentioned data is just for an example and in my actual report i can have more than 3 columns and report is looking ugly with all the spacing if i don't have data in all the fields.
I'm developing an SSRS report using VS2013 Premium with SSDT - BI v12.0.2430.0. SSRS is hosted on a SQL 2014 instance.The underlying database table has a varchar(max) field which stores text and embedded image data from a third-party application. I can extract this text, save it as an html file and open that in a browser. It renders complete with any embedded image.Meanwhile, the report textbox has its Placeholder Properties, Markup type set to HTML. Yet when I run the report, the text is displayed but any embedded image is not.Is there any approach I can take, perhaps transforming the varchar(max) data to another format in the query for my dataset, that can show the text and any embedded image in my report? Or is it that the TextBox control is limited, not unreasonably, to text only? If so, is there another control I could use, perhaps custom or third-party?

I have the above output. When I try to input this as a dataset to a pie chart I don't get the data lables for two slices of the pie chart. Only one slice will show the values when showing data label option is enabled.
For the Pie chart, I have added Soft, Hard and Primary as Values. I haven't added a Category group or a Series group. Why isn't this showing the data labels for the other slices?
Do I need to transform the dataset so that it has a category and the value like below?
XYZ, 2, Soft 50
XYZ , 2, Hard, 10
XYZ, 2, Primary, 40
Will this work since it has a define category that I could insert for the chart.

View 3 Replies View RelatedWe've got a requirement to build the real time report. user can browse report at any point of time and need to see the latest data(stock market) in the report.
I've few options down...
1. Directly point to OLTP database as source and write stored procedure to show result set.
2. Replicate the database and write the SP's to reports. To avoid pointing directly to OLTP db.
3. To build the datawarehouse with dim & facts to show it in reports. I prefer this as a standard method, but this would have some latency depending on trasaction load which will differ from the requirement.
We built our prod server [vm] with SQL Server 2008 R2 on Server 2008 R2. It works nicely. Then we made a copy of the VM and renamed it (so our test environment would be IDENTICAL to production). After that, SSRS was broken: I get "HTTP Error 503. The service is unavailable." I can't connect via http, or SSMS.
We have tried:
* Running SSRS config tool (several times)
* Running with/without the IIS Server Role
* Dropping & recreating the SSRS keys
* Recreating the ReportServer database, etc
* Checking all of the accounts, permissions, etc
* Running SQL Repair
* Going through the registry to fix any references to the machine's old name
* Uninstalling, reinstalling SSRS
* Completely uninstalling ALL of the parts of SQL Server 2008 R2, deleting all directories, removing references to SQL Server from the registry, rebooting, reinstalling everything.
None of this has worked. SSRS [R2] is still 503 on our test box.
the SSRS [NT] service seems to run, without error. The Event Viewer doesn't seem to be recording any errors. The SSRS logs say that the default URL is wrong, but we get the same error in Prod, and Prod works fine. The other SQL Logs say something about not being able to contact the service. However, as I said, the [NT] service seems to be working fine.

I am quite new to SSIS (I was a DTS developer) and I have a specific requirement to validate all incoming data using regular expressions. For each row in my input file, all columns will need to be validated against an expression. We have approx 60 different input files (a combination of xml and text files) with column counts going from 10 up to 120.
Also each input file will contain a footer which will need to be validated for record counts.
I would like the solution to be as generic as possible as the requirements for each file are similar -the only difference being the column names and the expressions to check against. I would really rather not have a different data flow task for each input file type as there are so many.
Can anybody suggest the most efficient/reusable way to do this? What I was thinking of was this:
Split the input file into detail/footer
create a temporary table based on the input file type with CHECKconstraints (regular expressions) for each column
for each detail record load it into the temp table
redirect any failures to another destination e.g. sql error table
Any other ideas would be very helpfull

View 2 Replies View RelatedHey everyone...I'm completely new to SQL Server and I'm trying to learn the Reporting Services tool. I just installed SQL Server 2005 and selected to install all the options, atleast I'm 99.99% sure I did.
When I go to launch Report Services Configuration, I get "No report servers were found on the specified machine. Details: Invalid namespace". Do I need IIS for this to work?
Also, I do not think the AdventureWorks database was installed, I cannot seem to find it anywhere. I have tried to go back through and reinstall it, but it says that it is already installed.
Also, is there a certain order that you are supposed to install things? i.e. SQL Server before Visual Studios?

Is it possible to have my pop up SSRS box size according to the size of the returned value? Issue is, i have a text box that returns a note field and depending on the number of notes, it can and will vary in size. I am currently using this code

Anyway, I added a report file to the project, added an ObjectDataSource and connected this to SQLServer 2008, and display the dataset on the report. The report is using ScriptManager, ReportViewer1, and Report1.rdlc file. I preview the dataset and I have multiple row returned. The problem is I only have one row displayed on the report. Maybe I did a quick and dirty report? What setting of properties did I missed?

I was trying to have multivalue options in a ssrs report, and I used this query

But the report only showed the default value as an option(in this format [Product].[Color].&[Multi] whic is not presentable),and what I also noticed in the parameter option is that, the available values option is set to none , also when I try to use get from query , it does not give me the vales for the parameters,and when I right click the designer pane it does not have the show hidden dataset option.I have created the parameter with multivalue option. what can I do to get the multivalue option to work.
My system environment: win2008 R2 SP1 64bit + SQL 2005 SP4 32bit

If I run the report and then click export by selecting the csv format, it looks ok with the encoding of UTF-8.
However, the same report , when I created a subscription and saved it in the hard driver. Its encoding became USC-2 Little Endian.
When the SSRS report exported to CSV file, all the column headers are added in the first row. The issue here is, I have hidden( thru Visibility property) some of the columns in the report but those columns are also displayed in the header row(first row)CSV file and the blank values for their corresponding data.for example, I have displayed only below 3 columns out of 6 columns in the report.col1, col2, col3but the CSV generated as below:
format..col1,col2,col3,col4,col5,col6a1,a2,a3,,,b1,b2,b3,,,c1,c2,c3,,,
I don't want the highlighted items.The TableColumn Visibility property has been setup as below..

I have below query which is working fine in SQL but if i use same query in SSRS dataset then it is not working at all.If i put only one condition in where clause then it works but if i put multiple conditions then it does not works in SSRS and through error "data is not available".

As you can see in code i have tried with both where conditions but it is not working. It seems that SSRS does not supports multiple conditions for same field.
I have 400 records in my report , i want display 20 records per page , how can i do the same in ssrs.
