SQL Server 2008 :: FEFO Query If Condition

Jan 28, 2015

I wish to make a query with if condition Implemented in a database sql server 2008 R2.

I would like to set up a system FEFO (first expired first out) based on batch number based on the dates of Lapsed but since I struggle to put my request in place. The principle of my request is:

if amount of movement (QTEMVT)> = amount entered by the user via a user interface then withdraws the amount entered by the user in the batch (NUMLOT) the amount of movement of the item that lapses the first (execution of my request).
else if amount of movement (QTEMVT) <amount entered by the user
then the difference between the amount entered by the user and the amount of movement (QTEMVT) (execution of my request) and the following conditions:
the amount of movement (QTEMVT) = the amount of movement (QTEMVT) of this item stored in my database and the amount of movement (QTEMVT) <> 0
by taking the difference of the item requested directly from the batch (NUMLOT) of the item directly after lapses.

Basically I want to set up an item management query based on batch number and expiration dates.

ps: QTEMVT = quantity of the item stored in my database
NUMLOT = batch number items
DATFABRIC = manufacturing date items
DATPEREMP = expiry date items

Here is my request:

SELECT f.NUMLOT,f.DATFABRIC,f.DATPEREMP,f.QTEMVT
FROM FAIRE f INNER JOIN mouvement m ON f.CODMVT = m.CODMVT
INNER JOIN TYPE_MOUVEMENT tm ON tm.CODTYPMVT = m.CODTYPMVT
INNER JOIN SOUS_SITE ss ON ss.CODSOUSIT = m.CODSOUSIT
INNER JOIN SITE s ON s.CODSITE = ss.CODSITE

SQL Server 2012 :: Generate Flag To Check Whether Join Condition Match Or Not

Oct 12, 2015

I want to join 2 tables, table a and table b where b is a lookup table by left outer join. my question is how can i generate a flag that show whether match or not match the join condition ?

**The lookup table b for column id and country are always not null values, and both of them are the keys to join table a. This is because same id and country can have multiples rows in table a due to update date and posting date fields.

example table a
id country area
1 China Asia
2 Thailand Asia
3 Jamaica SouthAmerica
4 Japan Asia

example table b
id country area
1 China Asia
2 Thailand SouthEastAsia
3 Jamaica SouthAmerica
5 USA America

Expected output
id country area Match
1 China Asia Y
2 Thailand SouthEastAsia Y
3 Jamaica SouthAmerica Y
4 Japan Asia N

SQL Server 2012 :: Adding A Conditional Join?

Aug 16, 2015

I need to add a join in my select query depending upon a variable @LoggedUser. the Join is to be there if @loggedUser is 1 else i do not need it. Currently I am using two different queries one with join and one without it under If (@LoggedUser check).

the join is like -
JOIN (SELECT CAST(CONVERT(VARCHAR(8),Analyst_Effective_date , 1) AS DATETIME) Analyst_Effective_date
FROM Users us (NOLOCK) JOIN Primary_Analysts (NOLOCK)
ON User_Count_Id = Analyst_Id_fk
WHERE User_Count_Id in ((SELECT VALUE FROM dbo.fParseString(@Analyst, ',')) )) Ana
ON dep.Departure_Code = Ana.Primary_Analyst_Departure_Code_fk
)

Any way that the join can be added conditionally in the query so i do not have to write the whole code again for one join.

SQL Server 2008 :: Adding Columns To Table Type?

Is there a good way to add columns to a table type?

I built several procs which make use of table-valued-parameters, and they work pretty nicely, until I need them to accept additional columns. Then I have to drop all the procs that use them, alter the types, and rebuild all the procedures, which is a huge pain in the rear.

Is there any good way (built in, or custom) to alter the def of a table type that's used as a parameter to multiple stored procedures?

If I alter a table and add a column, would this column automatically get picked up in replication?

SQL Server 2008 :: Inner Join Database Table With XML Data

Jan 25, 2011

I have a XML data passed on to the stored proc in the following format, and within the stored proc I am accessing the data of xml using the nodes() method

Here is an example of what i am doing

DECLARE @Participants XML

<Employees EmpID="1" EmpName="abcd" />
<Employees EmpID="2" EmpName="efgh" />
</ArrayOfEmployees >'

SELECT Participants.Node.value('@EmpID', 'INT') AS EmployeeID,
Participants.Node.value('@EmpName', 'VARCHAR(50)') AS EmployeeName
FROM
@Participants.nodes('/ArrayOfEmployees /Employees ') Participants (Node)

the above query produces the following result

EmployeeID EmployeeName
--------------- -----------
1 abcd
2 efgh

How do I join the data coming out from the above query with another table in the database, for example Employee in this case

i.e. somewhat like this (note the following query does not perform the join correctly)

SELECT Participants.Node.value('@EmpID', 'INT') AS EmployeeID,
Participants.Node.value('@EmpName', 'VARCHAR(50)') AS EmployeeName
FROM
@Participants.nodes('/ArrayOfEmployees /Employees ') Participants (Node)
INNER JOIN
Employee EMP ON EmployeeID = EMP .EmployeeID

My desired output after the join would be

EmployeeID EmployeeName Email Home Address
--------------- ----------- --------------- -----------
1 abcd abcd@abcd.com New York
2 efgh efgh@efgh.com Austin

SQL Server 2008 :: How To Return 1 Particular Column From Another Table In Join

Apr 25, 2015

I'm creating a sql stored procedure inside this proc it returns some information about the user, i.e location, logged in, last logged in, etc I need to join this on to the photos table and return the photo which has been set as the profile picture, if it hasn't been set then return the first top 1 if that makes sense?

The user has the option to upload photos so there might be no photos for a particular user, which I believe I can fix by using a left join

My photos table is constructed as follows:

CREATE TABLE [User].[User_Photos](
[Id] [bigint] IDENTITY(1,1) NOT NULL,
[UserId] [bigint] NOT NULL,
[PhotoId] [varchar](100) NOT NULL,
[IsProfilePic] [bit] NULL,

[Code] ....

Currently as it stands the proc runs but it doesn't return a particular user because they have uploaded a photo so I need to some how tweak the above to return null if a photo isn't present which is where I'm stuck.

SQL Server 2008 :: Optimizing Join With CASE Statement

Jul 20, 2015

I have data that I want at multiple granularities, 5,15,30 and 60 minutes. To reduce repetition, I have put them all in the same table, so that there is a column for 5,15,30 and 60 minutes, with a filtered index on each of the columns that removes the nulls. This means that each day will have 288 slots, but only 24 of the slots are filled in for 60 min data, and all of them are filled for 5 minute data.

I have another column that specifies the interval granularity, and my first thought was to access my data through a join, where I can use a CASE statement, and depending on the data granularity necessary, it will look at a different column:

INNER JOIN Data d ON
AND d.settlement_key =
CASE st.interval_granularity
WHEN 5 THEN [5_min_settlement_key]
WHEN 15 THEN [15_min_settlement_key]
WHEN 60 THEN [60_min_settlement_key]
ELSE NULL END

Despite the presence of the indexes on the columns, then the process seems to be quite slow, I think probably due to the fact that any query plan isn't going to know beforehand which of the columns it is going to use for any given dataset, until it actually starts to run, so it may not be optimised.

How I could optimise this based on the given structure? Maybe there are hints to be added to the join, or maybe I can clear the query plan each time the SQL is run? My other option for dealing with the data of different granularity was to use one column and repeat the data multiple times, each at the different granularity, but this makes my data, row and table sizes much higher, as we are adding just a column for each additional granularity. Would this work any better in future versions of SQL server, maybe with column store indexes?

SQL-Question: Natural Join With Condition

I'm using MS-SQL2000 if it is important.... Best regards!

Condition In Left Outer Join

Jan 22, 2008

Hi,
I want to get join of two tables A and B in such a way that all the Data from A for a particular Date should be extracted and then from table B Reqired column should selected against that data (it can be null). But if i use the following query:
1) Select A.*,B.Reqired from A Left Outer Join B on A.Same=B.Same Where A.Date = '1/22/2008'
it first joins the Table A and B (A contains millions of records) which takes a lot of time and then where is applied which takes a lot of time.
And if I use the following query:
2)Select A.*,B.Reqired from A Left Outer Join B on A.Same=B.Same AND A.Date = '1/22/2008'
in this case A.Date = '1/22/2008'  has no effect and all the data from the table A comes.
I have also tried first making the temp table for A.Date = '1/22/2008' and the joining with B but its cost is same as 1.
For this purpose Oracle allows the use of (+) operator like:
3)Select A.*,B.Reqired from A,B
Where A.Same=B.Same(+) AND A.Date = '1/22/2008'  which means all data from A for '1/22/2008' Plus B.Required against it whether its null or not.
Please let me know if there is a way around in MS SQL SERVER 2005.
Thanx.

Opinion/Standard For Join Condition

Jul 30, 2007

Hi,

I was having a conversation with another developer about the order that the join conditions are placed. More specifically, about the order the tables are referenced in the join condition. There are two ways to do it, for example:-- Here the table that is referenced first was "declared" first.
SELECT*
FROM
Logon
LEFT OUTER JOIN
Thread
ON Logon.LogonID = Thread.LogonID
LEFT OUTER JOIN
Message
ON Thread.ThreadID = Message.ThreadID

-- Here the table that is referenced first is the table being joined directly above it.
SELECT*
FROM
Logon
LEFT OUTER JOIN
Thread
ON Thread.LogonID = Logon.LogonID
LEFT OUTER JOIN
Message
ON Message.ThreadID = Thread.ThreadID
I realize this is not that big of a deal, but I was wondering if anyone had a good/valid reason for doing one versus the other.

Just curious,

-Ryan
