I have a table named Prescription that consists of attributes like PatientId, MedicineCode, MedicineName, Prices of different drugs, quantity of different drugs(e.g 1,2,3,10), date .
I would like to get a summary of the total number and amount of different drugs in a specific period, the total amount of each type of drug.

Mar 21, 2015I have the table below and like to create a view to show the no of days the property was vacant or void and rent loss per month. The below explanation will describe output required
For example we have a property (house/unit/apartment) and the tenant vacates on 06/09/2014. Lets say we fill the property back on 15/10/2014. From this we know the property was empty or void for 39 days. Now we need to calculate the rent loss. Based on the Market Rent of the property we can get this. Lets say the market rent for our property is $349/pw. So the rent loss for 39 days is 349/7*39 = $1944.43/-.
Now the tricky part and what im trying to achieve. Since the property was void or empty between 2 months, I want to know how many days the property was empty in the first month and the rent loss in that month and how many days the property was empty in the second month and the rent loss incurred in that month. Most of the properties are filled in the same month and only in few cases the property is empty between two months.
As shown below we are splitting the period 06/09/2014 - 15/10/2014 and then calculating the void days and rent loss per month
Period No of Void Days Rent Loss
06/09/2014 - 30/09/2014 24 349/7*24 = 1196.57
01/10/2014 - 15/10/2014 15 349/7*15 = 747.85

My question is what if I wanted to create a formula to something like:
UnitPrice * Quantity - DiscountAmount Where DiscountAmount = UnitPrice Quantity * Discount
Do I need to create a function for that? Also is it possible to have m y query as a table variable?
Multiple Triggers On A Table Or Encapsulated Triggers
May 12, 2008This isn€™t an problem as such, it€™s more of a debate.
If a table needs a number of update triggers which do differing tasks, should these triggers be separated out or encapsulated into one all encompassing trigger. Speaking in terms of performance, it doesn€™t make much of an improvement doing either depending upon the tasks performed. I was wondering in terms of maintenance and best practice etc. My view is that if the triggers do totally differing tasks they should be a trigger each on their own.

Loop Through Table Until Max Amount?
Sep 10, 2012I have a table with AmountSold and AmountLeftWith. I have to buy from the customers until the amount bought =250,000.
The max that user can buy is 250,000 so customers 1-3 get left with 0 (AmountLeftWith ) and customer 4 with 577 (AmountLeftWith ) after the update as user couldn't buy the entire amount as it would have exceeded 250,000. Preferably the query should stop afterwards and not proceed to check the other customers.

How To Separate Period Amount From YTD Amount

I can return that amount in my result set. But I also need to separate out by account the amounts just in the period = the period the user enters. There can be many entries or no entries in any period. I populate the temporary table this way:

Later I create a temporary table that contains budget information. I join these 2 temporary tables to produce my result set. But I don't know how to get the information for just one period. For example, if the user enters 99 as the FiscalPeriod_identifier, I need a separate field that contains only those amounts(if any) that were entered for each account in Period 99.
Can anyone help? It may be that I am not seeing the forest for the trees, but I can't figure it out.

Deleting Large Amount Of Data From The Table......
May 18, 2001I need to delete data from a particular table which has more than half a million records. The data needs to be deleted is more than 200,000 records from the table. What is the best way to delete the data from the table other than importing into a temporary table and performing the same operation?
Let me know if the strategy to be followed is okay.
1. Drop all the triggers
2. Drop all the indexes
3. Write a procedure with a loop setting ROWCOUNT to 1000 and delete the records. ( since if I try to delete all the rows it will give timeout error )
The above procedure will delete 1000 records for each batch inside the loop till it wipes out all the data for the specified condition.
4. Recreate Indexes and Triggers.
Please let me know if there are any other optimal solution.

Main And Detail Table Amount Calculations

I have a 2 main tables in my system. One is main table has ticket information location and so on. And detail table which hold all actions on that record with multiple money fields (its around 5 fields). it goes trough some crazy calculations on the detail table and get 5 results for each ticket. And this calculation is done everytime the ticket is looked at.
There is around 10 detail records per 1 main record. and the main table is around 7 mil. records
Now i got 2 options. I can create a trigger that does the calculation and update the main table show the results from there. This is going to affect all updates deletes and inserts.
OR
I can leave as it is so only when they view the ticket it does the calculation. Dont ask me how often they view it i dont have a clue.( if there is any suggestion how to get the count i could try to do it. )

Locking A SQL Table For Specific Amount Of Time.
Feb 28, 2008I am wondering if it€™s possible to lock a SQL table for specific amount of time, say 5 min.
There is a particular 'Phone' table on the database that should never get locked. Yet, during the development stages we have noticed that the table gets locked at time. The issue since has been resolved to the best of our ability, but, there is still a vague chance that the table can get locked due to the multiple jobs that query the table, when we go live.
If such a situation occurs, we just want to be able flip the switch that will send the server to the mirror mode and the previously mirrored database to become the principal.
So, I just want to recreate a situation by voluntarily locking the table.
Any help in this regard will be appreciated.

SQL Server 2008 :: Pulling Daily Total From Cumulative Total
Jun 28, 2015I have a table that writes daily sales each night but it adds the day's sales to the cumulative total for the month. I need to pull the difference of todays cumulative total less yesterdays. So when my total for today is 30,000 and yesterday's is 28,800, my sales for today would be 1,200. I want to write this to a new field but I just can't seen to get the net sales for the day. Here is some sample data. For daily sales for 6-24 I want to see 2,000, for 6-25 3,000, 6-26 3,500, and 6-27 3,500. I'm thinking a case when but can't seem to get it right.

I am getting this error when I try to run a script to create a table. The error reads as below
The total row size (12488) for table exceeds the maximum number of bytes per row (8060). Rows that exceed the maximum number of bytes will not be added.
Can somebody tell me what I have done wrong?

Running Total In Table
Apr 28, 2004Hi, i have an assets table with a purchase cost column and an updates table with an update cost column.
is there any way for me to add a total cost column to the assets table that will automagically add the purchase cost to the sum of the updates costs for each asset so that when queried, the total cost column can be returned with no calculation in the client?
am i looking at creating a view with the calculation in it?
If so, how do i define the total cost column please?

I have a report that looks like below. It's grouped by Product then by Year. I want to include within the Product grouping and item called "All products". If I swapped order of Grouping to Year then Product, I could simply add a SUM in the group header, but the users don't want it displayed that way round.
Any suggestions for "All products" ?

Insert Into Table Up To Certain Total
May 20, 2015I have a view that contains loan numbers and their current balances. I have been assigned to a task of inserting the first 30 million dollars worth of loans from that view into a table. Is there a way to take a running sum of the loans I am inserting into the table and stop inserting when that sum hits 30 million?
